911DA Story: Story
I was on my way out the door, heading to work, when ny best freind called from New York. He said, "Are you watching TV?" I told him that I wasn't, and I could tell by the tone of his voice that something was seriously wrong. He said that "we were under attack" and that someone had driven a plane through the World Trade center, and and that another plane had hit the other tower just after. He said that he had heard that the Pentagon was also hit, and that "they" didn't know if there were more planes out there ready to hit other buildings. My initial reaction was shock and fear. Then I turned on the television, and watched in horror as people leaped to their deaths from the burning towers. An ex-New Yorker myself, I watched helplessly as panicked masses ran from the crumbling towers I had been inside of and stood beneath so many times. I tried to call all of my friends in New York, but couldn't get through. I have not been back since the attack. The pain is too overwhelming. I can not bear to see that empty spot in the skyline that I took for granted for so many years.
