Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I had gotten off an overnight shift at American Medical Response where I am a 911 Dispatcher at 0630. My normal routine was to come home, change, and unwind so I could go to sleep. Just minutes before the North Tower was struck, I had sat on the bed to watch Good Morning America. The North Tower was struck, I sat in disbelief. Minutes later the second tower was struck; my heart sunk, I began to shake and cry. I phoned my kids and husband at work to tell them what had happened and continued to sit frozen watching the tragedy unfold. Knowing I wouldn't sleep that day, I quickly showered and went back to work to lend whatever help I could. I then worked my regular shift where I dispatched ambulances to the New Haven area and kept in touch with those we dispatched to New York. I am also an EMT-I for Stratford Volunteer Emergency Services. When I did my next shift, two days later, my partner and I realized we were being treated much differently. People were telling us to go ahead of them in line, we staring at us, were moving to let us pass. It was a very strange feeling and not one we were totally comfortable with. We, like all those who perished love what we do. We don't look to be treated differently than anyone else. This is what we chose to do. But to all those who do appreciate the dedication, sacrifice and love we give, we thank you.
