Title A name given to the resource "Voices That Must Be Heard" Articles Description An account of the resource The Independent Press Association (IPA) translates articles from the ethnic press (when necessary) and distributes them via web and fax newsletter to mainstream and ethnic press, government offices, nonprofits, and interested individuals. Voices That Must be Heard was designed by the Independent Press Association staff in New York City in response to the horrifying events of September 11. After Sept. 11th, Voices focused on the South Asian, Arab and Middle Eastern communities in New York. Since February 2002, the project has expanded, selecting articles from the broad range of ethnic and community newspapers throughout the city. Here, the Archive has preserved the Voices collection from its inception until November 2002. Saifur Rahman, said that because of the countrys continuing harmony among different religious groups, Bangladesh has emerged a vibrant, resilient and strong South Asia democracy. Rahman spoke at a seminar organized by the Bangladesh Journalists and Writers Association (BJWA), an organization of Bangladeshis living in New York. The seminar, Investment Opportunities in Bangladesh, encouraged Bangladeshis in America to send surplus money to Bangladesh for investment purposes. There was a minimum of communal backlash in Bangladesh, even after the big riots between Hindu and Muslims in neighboring India, Rahman claimed. Peace is possible because the Bangladeshi people are not communal [religious friction] at all. But some foreigners are propagandizing against Bangladesh, branding it a communal country, he added. Rahman urged all Bangladeshis living abroad, irrespective of religion, to invest in Bangladesh. The seminar was mostly attended by Bangladeshis.
