911DA Story: Story
I was working a normal day, listening to the radio at my desk. One of my coworkers starting saying something about the WTC being hit by a plane. My station started talking about it, and the more I listened, the more I was convinced that it was a terrorist attack, even before they confirmed it. There was too much doubt that a perfectly good plane would fly into such a large building, let alone another one doing the same thing only 16 minutes later. We all stuck to our radios and I telephoned my father to tell him to turn the television on. He then volunteered to bring us a television to my work, which I accepted. It helped us to have the visual vs. radio reports. At approximately 12:15 PM, my work closed operations and sent everyone home. I knew I was going to be glued to the television set for the next several days, so I chose to go to my local Red Cross facility and volunteer in whatever capacity they needed me. I spent about 4 hours there answering phones and making donation calls. It helped me feel like I was doing something, whatever that could be.
Not much of a story, but that's how I'll always remember that day. Thank you for reading...
