911DA Story: Story

I was at work. It was a regular day or so I thought. I work for the Post Office. I was trying to get the mail out when it came over the radio about the first plane. I thought how could a pilot hit the WTC on such a clear day. We all went to the swing room to check out the TV. There it was the second plane striking. For the first time I did not feel safe in my own country. After the devastation, I was happy I did not know one person who was killed. I began to feel bad because like it or not those were my fellow countrymen who rode on the bus or train that I do every morning. I felt empty all of these emotions. So in days to come I read the poem Footprints. It made me feel better. When I see it on the news the stories, the devastation I change the channel. In order to heal I must move on but I WILL NEVER FORGET THAT FOR ONE MOMENT I WAS NOT SAFE. We are strong we will move on. One day at a time. It may feel as if we can't, but we must for our children. They are our future.
