911DA Story: Story

Surreal. The feeling within me was completely surreal. It was almost like it wasn't happening. In my mind it couldn't happen. It was as if there was a bubble surrounding America, sheilding from all bad and horrible things. Sure I'd heard about past wars and events that had occured in America, but that was over. Such things couldn't happen again. Or so I, and many others, naively thought. September 11th was an enormous wake-up call, not only to us, but to the rest of the world. It brought us off of our high platform that rose above all other countries. Countries in which terrorism was a normal, even daily, occurance. We were on the same level with them. It was very humbling. It took away whatever sense of security that we thought we had, and that we took for granted. This fall from a high place did bring a greater sense of family and togetherness among Americans. Probably one of the few positive outcomes of this horrific event. For at least one day people stopped thinking about themselves and their petty differences, and they started thinging about others and their wellbeing.
