At 1000pm on September 10,2001, my boyfriend and I boarded a flight from Chicago to San Fransisco. It was our first trip together. It was very late by the time we arrived and checked into the hotel. We stayed up talking for awhile then went to sleep. By the time we woke it was 9am Pacific time, 4 hours after everything began. And we had no idea. I called my parents to check in and they were frantic. I asked them what was wrong and the were amazed I hadn't any idea. As my mother explaind the events to me , my boyfriend turned on the television and there it was "Attack on America." We were in shock. We knew we had to get home. My boyfriend made many calls trying to rent a car with no luck. Finally we were able to rent one of the last cars in the city with the hotel's help.
It was quite a drive home. The next day we saw the footage of the first plane crashing into the World Trade Center. It was especially hard to watch because we both work for American Airlines.
We made it home 2 days later, and we were closer than ever having experienced that together. Today, we are married.
