It was strange. I was just working on a Kmart ad. I remember someone saying the World Trade Center just got hit by a plane. My first reaction was to think about the people in the building. What a horrible thing! It was hard to believe and at that time none of us knew that it was a terrorist attack. Then the second plane hit. I remember that I had a pit in my stomach thinking about what was happening to all of the people in the building and how anyone could cause such a tragedy. I worked in a hi-rise at the time and never in a million years would something like this ever cross my mind when going into work. We all listened to the radio. Some people were on the internet getting information. I remember that it was hard to think about work at all. The GM building closed down in Detroit. Everyone in the office called relatives and friends, as if they needed someone to confirm that this was happening. It took a long time to sink in. It's a year later. When I was visiting New York a couple of years ago I went to the top of the World Trade Center. I had a drink with a friend. I remember how unbelievable the view was from up there. I thought about how cool it was that I got to experience being at the top of New York City!! What a shame that there are people that will never be able to have that same experience. Part of us is missing now. The world will never be quite the same.
Thanks for putting this site up. Someday people will read these experiences and be able to understand what September 11 was like for the people who listened a watched and experienced the tragedy.
