911DA Story: Story
I was busy working at my desk when my co-worker received a call from her husband, telling her that a plane had just crashed into one of the World Trade Center buildings. I remember saying what a terrible accident. My co-worker had not even hung up the telephone when the second plane hit, and we both looked at each other and realized that this was no accident.
Everyone in the office rushed to the conference room to see what CNN was announcing about the plane crashes. We all stood in horror as we listened to an account of the attacks and watched the television footage displayed on the screen, only to watch two more tradgic acts. We were all shaken by the news. And it brought back some terrible memories of many of my co-workers that lost friends in the Oklahoma City bombing.
A decision was made to close our office for the remainder of the day due to safety concerns. But I'm proud to say that we have been back to work each day since, including this day of remembrance - September 11, 2002. It is our way of showing America that we will not be broken.
