911DA Story: Story
I was vacationing in New York City from Houston, Texas with my husband, son and nephew. I had a reservation to have brunch on July 8, 2001 in the "Windows On The World" for Sunday Brunch. It was a pouring down rainy day, but I told my family I wanted to go there anyway. We arrived there at 11 a.m. and were seated at a nice corner table. It was very foggy and we could not see a thing. Suddenly the fog lifted, the rain stopped and we had a spectacular view and was able to see all the beauty of New York that we so remembered, as my husband and I were born and raised in West 101st Street, just one block west of Central Park. We all had a wonderful brunch and the wait staff were fantastic. There was a band there with a lead black singer and he asked us what did we want to hear him sing, and we all shouted "New York, New York" He sang it directly to us and our hearts were just filled with joy. As we were leaving the restaurant, the singer called to us. "Please come back and visit us soon" Little did we know that exactly one year later we did go back but the view was one that broke us up and the sadness is still with us. We keep thinking about all those nice people that served us there and all the others in the buildings that perished, including our Fire and Police Department men that lost their lives in that terrible tragedy.
