911DA Story: Story

On the morning of September 11, 2001, I got ready and went to work as usual. At that time I was working at a dentist office in Baton Rouge. I got to work about 20 minutes late because the traffic was unbelievable. When I entered the office everyone was talking about the terrrible incident and there was a television on in every operatory. It took all of 3 minutes watching one of the new showings to discover what had incurred. At the office, I was in charge of shipping cases to the lab in California. From that day and until the day I left that office in Januaruy, cases were delayed for an additional 3-6 weeks. I would speak to various patients throught the next few months, who all offered their stories of how the 9/11 incident had changed their lives. As a Louisiana History teacher, I am aware of the impact this event had on our country's economy and how many lives were changed as the threat of terrorist was planted in the minds of each citizen regardlesss of race, gender, or location. I may be just one middle-aged, mother of two, working in a small school district in small town in Louisiana, but I represent one of millions that will never forget that day and how this country shifted from the Big U S of A into a country of people that need each other to be whole.
