Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: September 11, 2001 was supposed to be picture day at Jenks High School. I woke up at that morning like I did did every morning at 6:00 only this morning was different. I felt my throat hurting, and I had an awful sinus headache. My mom and I decided I should stay home from school. She went back to sleep, and I tried to sleep. After about an hour of trying to sleep, I went into the living room and turned on She's All That to watch. My mom woke up later, so I turned the movie off. She likes to have her coffee and watch TV in the mornings before my brother and sister wake up. That's when I saw the news on channel three. I thought at first that they were talking about the previous attempt to bomb the World Trade Center. I asked Mom about it, and she said she thought the same thing. At that moment they showed the image of the first plane hitting the first tower. I think I just stared at it in disbelief. It was such a shock to think something like this could happen. All the pictures on television really upset my mom. She was just crying. I couldn't cry at the moment. I just stared, wondering who in their right minds would do this to innocent people. I stared for probably 10 whole minutes, then the tears started to flow. I realized that there were going to be thousands dead. I realized that America was being attacked on that day. I thought of my school. I wondered how the kids and teachers were coping with the tragedy. I knew that my history teacher Mr. Fritz would have the TV on in his room. He was very big on current events, and if it meant crying while watching something, his students would watch it. I knew that if I were at school that day, I would just want to be home. I thank God I was sick that day. I was able to feel at least a little bit of comfort in that time.
