9/21/01
Querido Juanito: I cried.....like a father searching for a son...I looked for you by calling hospitals, emergency numbers, classmates of yours... I prayed on my knees in church. And again when I finally spoke with you. I should tell you that 9/11 I cried out to God so that he would PUSH you out of danger. And He did. Then I read your quote from the yearbook: " Thank you for pushing me..." No need to say anything else... I share your sorrow and your grief.....Your girlfriend needs you now more than ever. And you need to be strong... Dear John, yesterday I brought your picture to Jericho and told my students everything. They need to realize the importance of being alive, of loving, of losing loved ones. They share these moments with you. They are nice kids. They lost their innocence the moment we were attacked. I read them the article you sent me. There was absolute silence, the silence that accompanies anger, fear, sorrow, and the dawn of an unknown reality. I am convinced that the WTC fell so majestically (pardon the word) , like flowers that close at night time, in order to keep all those who died. Those flowers will reopen one day, and all those who fell within will become the seeds of our future.....Thank you for listening, John. The poet in me gives me thoughts of inspiration and hope. Our country will survive and will rise higher than ever, and we'll be more united, more kind, more compassionate. We all feel the same anger and pain now. The world will know that America is a land of brotherhood and peace. I'll stop now...I've been rambling a lot these past days.........Oh, how I loved those towers!!!!!! Oh, how I feel the pain of millions like you!!!!! Oh, how grateful I am to know that you are well. Un abrazo, Alberto.</text>
