Subject: CC meeting Sunday

> Hi X,
>
> Virginia forwarded your message regarding the CC meeting on Sunday. I will
> be attending as the Action Committee rep.
>
> Anyway, since I'm not the official Outie, and there is no way for me to
get
> on the CC mailing list from the website (and I really don't want to be on
> another mailing list), I've pasted the report/request/proposal that you
> requested to you below. Please forward to the rest of the group.
>
> Also, is it possible for you to cut all the reports/request/proposals from
> the different groups and paste them into an email for me sometime before
the
> meeting Sunday? I realize it's a pain in the neck, but I would really
> appreciate it!
>
> Thanks,
> X
>
>
> Report:
>
> Action Committee
>
> 1. Update on activities
>
> The action committee has been planning the November 17 action at Truax
> Field. We are currently trying to finalize speakers, confirm the parade
> permit with the city, and a few other last minute details, such as
> purchasing locally grown flowers, if possible, for placing at the Truax
> gate. We are also attempting to get the use of MATC's parking lot and
> organize carpools. Much of what is now happening with this action is out
of
> the Action Committee's hands now, which leads to...
>
> 2. Needs from other committees (I realize most of this has been said
> before...I am just reiterating so we can confirm!)
>
> Arts: Signs and puppets and other visuals for the action.
> Media: Press releases and conferences.
> Outreach: Contacting all members groups of coalition to encourage
attendance
> at this event. Also, contacting local members of the Wisconsin Network for
> Peace and Justice would be great. They have a website with contact info:
> http://www.mindspring.com/~wnpj/. Also mention to these groups that
> carpooling is strongly suggested!
> Policy: preaddressed postcards and talking points for representatives to
be
> delivered to local offices
> Fundraising: Donation buckets to be passed around
> Student Youth Caucus: Contacting UW and MATC student groups and high
schools
> with info about this action
> >From entire MAPC: help with flyering and postering!
>
> 3. One proposal that was discussed at our last meeting and agreed upon by
> the group was a need for a weekly antiwar vigil (or peace vigil). The
actual
> proposal will NOT be available until Tuesday's meeting, but the gist of it
> is that on Saturdays from noon to 1pm at Peace Park, people would be able
to
> come together and stand vigil for an end to this war. Part of the group
may
> want to walk up and down State Street as a more visible demonstration for
> peace.
>
> This idea stemmed from comments many of us have heard from friends and
> acquaintances: if there were some regularly scheduled public vigil, they
> would attend.
>
> This vigil takes very little effort as far as organizing, perhaps making
use
> of our member groups to spread the word, and perhaps a media announcement.
>
> -X
