911DA Story: Story

On September 11,2001, I was secure, comfortable, without grief, needing no help, just ensconced in the daily routine of living, with my daughter Alisa. And then, within a short span of time, my life changed. Suddenly no longer secure or comfortable, I WAS grief and in need of help; and feeling utterly helpless. As the fog of incredulous, painful magnitude lifted, that day as well as the ensuing days, brought about an amazing realization. While I cannot change events, I can become security for my neighbor while I comfort him. I can be there in the grief of others and help in any way possible - all this while being ensconced in the daily routine of living. Yes, I know we'll never be the same....but we can and certainly will be better. Even while living in a remote place such as Willow, Alaska.
