911DA Story: Story
They say we'll never forget where we were on the morning of September 11, 2001.
I was making the short drive to work from Oak Cliff when I first heard the news on a rock station...I thought, "My Lord, these shock jocks have no conscience left." I switched stations as I approached the Commerce Street bridge towards downtown Dallas. I heard the same news.
As I crossed the bridge, I looked up at the panoramic view of downtown Dallas directly in front of me.
There was not an aircraft in site...anywhere. Never in my 40+ years had I seen the empty skies above Dallas.
My heart sank and then reality sank in as well. I will never forget the empty sky and will always remember that moment of dispair and wondering what would happen next.
I hope peace will someday be the rule for all.
