911DA Story: Story
The day before this horrible tragedy I was flying home from New Jersey. We had a hard time flying out and had contemplated staying over an extra night. We finally made it home and had returned to work on September 11th. As the bell rang, to change classes, we heard rumor that a plane had hit the Twin Towers building. I was beginning my planning period so I went to the Social Studies wing and we all piled into one classroom. I will never forget watching the television with our students. You could see horror and disbelief on their faces. Our principal would come over the intercome periodically and let everyone know what was happening. He also announced that any teacher who felt the need to turn on his/her T.V. could do so. We watched it all day long. When we got home, we had to explain to our four year old why these buildings were on fire. All we could say was that some bad men had crashed into the buildings and hurt a lot of people. We use to have struggles with our students standing for the pledge. We do not have as many problems with that anymore!
