911DA Story: Story
I was a nanny that year. Having just moved from Omaha, NE to NY three months earlier, the family and I were settling into our school-year routine.
My charge woke up not feeling well.I made him breakfast and tucked him back into bed, watching cartoons.
As I headed downstairs to clean up the breakfast dishes, how mundane, the Poland Springs man rang the door bell. At the same moment my boss yelled, screamed almost, "Oh my GOD!" His wife worked down with a building adjoining the towers.
The two things I remember more than anything else from that morning was how crystal blue clear the sky was, and the sound of the door bell ringing.
We weren't able to contact my other boss until well into late evening and she wasn't able to get home until very, very late that night because of the trains not running. By then the whole world had transformed itself into a strange alien environment and I was glad that their family was able to be together that night.
