911DA Story: Story

I was working at my desk in the Adult Education Dean's office when my daughter called from home to say that a plane had flown into one of the WTC buildings. We all thought it was an accident until the second plane hit.

I can hardly explain my feelings that morning...profound sorrow, astonishment, fear but, above all...a feeling of being cut off from reality. Could this really be happening? As the events unfolded, I cried for the victims, their families, their friends, and for our country. My co-workers hugged each other and gathered in silence. There was not much to say; we were in shock.

I thought about New York City (I was born and raised there) and imagined the devastation created by this violence. I have nothing but admiration for all the people who were in New York helping during that trying time. I admire the passengers on Flight 93 and their resolve to fight back. It makes me so proud to be an american.

Above all, I think about the families affected by this event. I can not imagine living with such anguish.
