Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: On this morning my husband had decided to go and visit his best friend at his business. He had been gone just about 10 minutes when he called me and told me to turn on the TV as a plane had crashed into a tower of the World Trade Center. My husband is a retired Colonel in the Air Force and has always been cool, calm and collected. There was in his voice a tremor I had not hear before. As I watched the scene I was in awe of what was happening but when the second plane hit I felt such terror and then empathy for the people in the towers and on the planes. I immediately called both of my daughters and asked them if they knew what was happening. One did and the other did not. I needed to hear their voices and I needed to tell them I loved them. We prayed and hung up. Then when the first tower started to collapse I called my husband and told him to look but he said he was. He said he was coming home, I think we needed to be with each other. By the time he arrived home the other tower was collapsing. I cried and asked why, he was choked up and then he was angry. As time went by and the Pentagon was struck and the plane went down in Pennsylvania I continued to ask how this could have happened and why God would allow it to. Using his military backgound and training he offered thoughts and told of past projects he participated in regarding security and what could happen. He had no answer about God. Even though I had no family or friends killed in these terrorist attacks a part of me has an empty place for all of those who are no longer with their family and friends in the flesh. My husband has shed tears, as I have and thinks in terms of an eye for an eye. He also watches closely how we handle the safety of the USA. All in all neither he nor I will ever think that America is untouchable by those who hate what we stand for. But we also know we must stand together to keep this country strong, the terrorists will not win. Tell us your story: I rarely take the time to watch the news or read the paper, but I started getting up earlier over the past weeks and started watching CNN as I got myself, my son and my finace ready for work and school. I had the television on and the volume set low, for reasons I don't remember now, because a phone call from my sister, who lives in Buffalo, NY set a different tone for the remainder of the day. She called to ask if I was watching tv and I told her yes and asked why. She told me about the first tower attack. I quick turned the volume up, called my fiance out to the living room and the two of us stood there, staring at the tv, at 6:00 am Pacific time. We were in time to watch the second World Trade Tower hit by the plane and stood there exchanging looks of shock and numbness. That feeling of numbness, the same feeling I get when I hear about a person's death of someone close to me, carried with me all that day. The shock and numbness were soon accompanied by concnern for our family members in New York State, as both Jeff and I are originally from NY. I didn't want to go to work or let my son go to school, but I pushed myself to belive nothing else would happen, especially to anyone I knew. I was a bit on edge, worried until I came home to see my son home from school, safe and sound. Once I knew all was good with my loved ones, I turned my thoughts solely to those who were lost in the attacks and their family and friends who were left to feel the loss. I wasn't even born when JFK was shot and killed, so I can't say "I remember where I was when JFK was killed", but I am sorry to say my generation has something worse to say they remember where they were when: The World Tade Towers, the Pentagon and that plane headed for PA was attacked; the day the terorists made the US a very vulnerable country for a very long time. I think of how my grandfather, who has been dead for ten years, was a man of the Navy and an overall very patriotic person, felt and what he thought as he watched from the Heavens above at the terror that took place that day. If he were alive still today, I would have been moved right back to NY, where he could have all his family close by in the event anything of such magnitude ever happened again. And if he had been alive that day, I know that despite the strong and hateful words he would have spoken in regards to the people that attacked, that in private he would be shedding tears for the love of his country and all those that, like himself in WWII, laid their lives on the line to protect this country. I heard a man quoted on the radio the other day for saying that Sept. 11th caused many people to reassess their values. I thought about that on and off all day, and I know that live is precious, and it is too short to let the little things get the best of you because there is always something much bigger that may just get the best of you. ANd I try every day now to appreciate my son like I never have before, just in case there isn't a tomorrow. I will end this by saying that my thoughts and prayers continue to go out to those who were personally affected by the attacks and I give praise to the fine souls that risked their lives in the aftermath. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I remember September 11th, 2001 very well. It was about 9:30 am and I was sitting in my Middle Eastern Studies class. We had been discussing all of the horrible things that were going on in the Middle East for days. All of a sudden some kid came running into our classroom screaming, "Something's going on in New York, something terrible!" My teacher turned on the television and sure enough, it was terrible. We all watched the news in awe. No one said even a word for the rest of the hour and a half class time. We just shook our heads in disbelief. I remember leaving my class and crying all the way home. I called my fiance to tell him about what had happened (because he was still in bed). I couldn't even talk to him about it. I just said, "turn the TV to NBC." The rest of the day I just moped around wondering if it was ever going to end. One attack after another. My friend was frantic calling her aunt in Washington, D.C. Her uncle was stationed at the Pentagon and no one had heard from him for hours. Needless to say, he didn't make it out. Yes, here in the heart of Illinois, we have been deeply affected by this tragedy. No one has any right to terrorize a country that represents freedom and acceptance for all races and religions. This is unbelievable and something that NO ONE will ever, ever forget. I still cry when I hear patriotic songs, poems, or anything remotely related to the September 11th tragedy. I am horrified to be part of the generation that has to see so much terrorism, yet privilaged to be a part of this unified, patriotic, free spirit that has uplifted us all. At around 10:45 I got checked out of school and on my way home my mom and dad was telling me what had happened. On that same day about 9:45 my mom recived a call from her aunt saying that our cousin had died in The Twin Towers. We cried and cried until a couple of hours later we recived another call saying that her baby was also found dead. She had took her baby there with her and they both died. Well I was very devasted. I wondered how could someone want to do that to our country. As I grew older I still wondered that same thing. Well about 3 years later I was older so my mom and dad could explain to me. They told me it was because we are a rich country and other things also. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I am Brazilian and I live in Paris with my French husband. On Sept 11 2001, it was about 3pm in France and I was at work. I called a Brazilian friend who also lives in Paris to chat, and the moment she answered she asked me if I was calling "because of the plane that hit WTC". I didn't know anything about it, neither did she know anything else, and I just tried to seek information on the internet. Instinctively I tried to load some Brazilian news sites; one of them still had its normal frontpage, the other one had this caption "plane hits WTC" and that was it. I emailed my brother and a friend in Brazil, who I knew would be connected at that time (10am in Rio), asking them if they had any other information. I tried to connect to French news sites, nothing was on, and then tried to connect to CNN, which took a long time to load. In the meanwhile, my brother Gustavo and my friend Luiz had answered saying that apparently a second plane had hit the other tower. I felt as if I was going to fall, my heartbeats accelerated and I was really scared. Still, I couldn't get any news from any other website, and I was embarassed to pass along the news on the office because I was afraid it wasn't real, or maybe it was just a mistake made by the Brazilian news sites... When I finally got CNN and I confirmed it, I told the people working with me what was happening. Everybody thought it was a joke; I remember my boss coming out of a meeting and not wanting to hear it, thinking everyone was making fun of him. The emails exchange between my brother, my friend and I continued. I can still remember when my brother wrote me saying that they had hit the Pentagon. There were also some rumours and I have this email where my brother "yells" "oh my God, they just hit the United Nations building". I thought he was talking about the Swiss one, and then I thought it was the end of the world and that all capitals in Europe would be attacked. I was really afraid and wanted to go home to be with my husband - but I kept trying to call him in the mobile and he just didn't answer. I also tried to call my mom in Brazil, I really thought this was the beginning of WWIII and that an atomic bomb would fall in some minutes. I never felt so scared in my life. The time passed and I got a bit calmer when I understood there was no threats in Europe (for that moment); still I was afraid and really sorry for all the people in the WTC. I remember helping my friend Luiz call his dad, who was in NY that day; he finally made to call him. I also remember the cold reaction my boss' boss had when learning it - "oh, that's nothing, now go back to work and call the ad agency". I'll never forget that - I was there saying "but don't you see? things will never be the same again!" and she was like "nah, they'll just arrest some people and that's it". Little did she know about all the impacts on economy that would follow -specially on our industry, Tourism... My brother told me "go home as soon as you can" - he was afraid for me being in Paris, an important capital in Europe - "and don't go near the Eiffel Tower". Well, I instantly calculated - the tower is at 2km from my home... I finally got my husband on the phone and I told him I'd be going home as soon as possible and if he could please do the same. In the company I worked at the time, nobody got to go home sooner, nor did we have TV sets or radios - we were supposed to be working normally! I'll never understand this reaction. I did call the ad agency and they answered "are you nuts? we're not working, the world is changing!". I felt relieved... On my way home, I was really afraid of a terrorist attack on the subway. When I finally got home, I was able to call my mom and talk for a while, both of us crying and not knowing what would happen next. I really hoped at that time to be in Brazil with my family and husband, I still think it'd be safer for that matter. I watched the news on TV all night long, crying everytime I saw the images of the planes hitting the towers. I still think about how people on the planes felt, knowing that it would crash. Today, 2 days before the 1-year anniversary of the attacks, I want to say that I am feeling very sorry for all the people who died in that day, for all the families that lost someone - because I know how hard it is. I try to see both sides of the question - how the international US policies are somewhat responsible for all this hate, and also how unfair it was to kill so many innocents. And I pray for the souls of those who died, I pray for the familes, and also pray for a better world, where there will be a better comprehension of the differences between people and where all decisions will be made based on global needs, not individual ones. America has now the possibility of doing better; let's not let revenge destroy the world. Well not every night, just since July because the TV in my bedroom has been broken since then. Every night has been the same since then. I would fall asleep watching television, and Brian would wake me up before he went to work. I would go into my bedroom and fall back asleep, and later wake up for work. I don?t know why I didn?t get a new television, I have the money, I guess I am just a little too lazy sometimes. Every night it was the same routine. It kind of worked out well. I worked late-nights and Brian worked nine to five so we weren?t in each other?s way. By the end of the summer I kind of thought that Brian was getting mad, or at least annoyed that he woke me up every morning. I actually liked it, because of our different hours we hardly saw each other. Brian was my big brother and by waking me up, I guess he felt like he was looking out for me. At times I think Brian was madder that I fell asleep with the TV on. Heaven forbid the electricity bill was more than last month. One night about seven months ago, I fell asleep on the couch watching television. I remember this night so well, because it wasn?t unlike tonight at all. Brian woke me up before he went to work. He shook me and said, ?Neal, how are you going to wake up for work.? I said, ?Don?t worry I will go inside?. I got up went inside and fell back to sleep. The next thing I remember is my cell phone ringing, I didn?t answer it, and I thought that if it were important they would call my house phone. Looking back I realized that this was totally against my normal routine. Normally when I got home from work at night I shut my ringer off because I would get calls from telemarketers all morning. Any one that needed me knew to call my cellular phone A few minutes later my cell phone rang again; I still didn?t answer it. I was waiting for my house phone to ring before I thought anything of it. Sure enough my house phone rang next. It was my mother, and she was hysterical. She told me to turn on the news. When I put the news on, I saw that a plane had flown into the building that Brian worked in. Mom was telling me to call Brian and find out what was going on. Within the next few minutes, a plane had hit the other tower of the pair. The next thought in my head was my brother Eric, he was supposed to be flying to Tampa that morning for business. I asked mom about Eric. She said that she couldn?t get in touch with him. Apparently the phone lines were all tied up because of what had happened. Mom couldn?t get a call through to Eric because he lives in New Jersey. When I finally got Eric on the phone, he was just as bad as mom. His flight had been cancelled and he was home alone. Eric is the oldest of us, but he really doesn?t handle bad situations well. I knew I had to get to Eric because he was alone. Mom was not alone, so she was ok. I was watching the news and when the first of the two towers collapsed, I ran out of the house. Traffic to New Jersey was horrible, I later found out that the Outerbridge Crossing was closed. Actually all of the bridges to Jersey were closed. While I was sitting in traffic, Eric called me. He told me that the tower had collapsed. Knowing that Tower Two collapsed and Brian was in Tower One I told him not to worry; Brian was in the other tower. Between his tears he was able to explain that now both towers had collapsed. In disbelief I told him not to worry everything would be ok. Sure enough Eric was right, both towers had fallen, but it had been almost two hours and I felt that Brian had enough time to get out. At this point, I just didn?t want to be alone. Now my sister-in-law was home, so Eric wasn?t alone. I went to the only place I could get to, Mom?s house. When I got there, mom was alone and crying. All I could was hold her and try to comfort her. We were keeping hope alive, but part of us knew that there was no way Brian had escaped. It had been about four hours now and still no word from Brian. Out of nowhere, my cell phone beeped with a voice message. I knew it was Brian, he was calling to tell us that he was ok. When I heard his voice I felt such a sigh of relief, but it came too soon. This was the first call that my cell phone received that morning. In all of the confusion and with the phone lines being tied up, I had just got the message. It was Brain calling at 8:51 am. He called to tell us what had happened. He said, ? A plane had hit the trade center and I am in it, everything is on fire. If I don?t make it out of here, tell everyone that I love them?, and then he said his last choked up goodbye. After almost seven months, a memorial service, and a funeral, we still don?t want to admit that Brian is no longer with us. On that sunny September morning something stopped me from answering the phone. I don?t know what it was, but now the last words that Brian had for us will be with us forever. Now even seven months later I still fall asleep on the couch with the television on, hoping that this was all a dream; waiting for Brian to shake my arm and tell me to go inside, because I don?t want to be late for work. As I'm watching the Today Show, they show us the first plane hitting the towers. My husband is a New York City firefighter, who happened to be home that day and was still sleeping. I ran inside our bedroom and told him "Hon, you're missing a good job today." I knew his firehouse would respond to this incident, just as they did in 1993. He then turned on the T.V. and started watching himself. We both then saw the second plane hit the towers and my husband's first words were "It's terrorists." I don't feel I really understood the full impact of what I was seeing. I then went to the gym and took my aerobics class. In the middle of my class, my husband came running into the gym and told me he had gotten called in for an "all hands emergency." He asked me to try calling some of the other firemen in his house that lived in our County. He had tried calling himself but couldn't get through to them. We were already starting to have problems with the telephone lines. My husband left and, little did I know, I wouldn't see him for another two days. I then went home myself and pretty much just glued myself in front of the T.V. and watched the horrors unfold. But I had hope. People were going to come out alive. At 6:00 that evening I received a telephone call from one of the wives of a firefighter from my husband's firehouse. She wanted to know if I had heard from my husband. Her husband was supposed to have gotten off of work that morning at 9:00 a.m. She hadn't heard from him and couldn't get through to him on his cell phone. I told her my husband got called in that morning at 10:00 a.m. and I hadn't heard from him yet. By 8:00 p.m. my husband called me. He borrowed someone's cell phone. He then gave me the names of the firemen missing from his firehouse. It was as if a knife had been put into my heart. Some of these men I have known since my husband got into the Fire Department, 13 years. I continued to watch the T.V., believing that these guys - my friends - would be found. At 10:00 p.m. I received another phone call from another firefighter's wife. She, too, wondered where her husband was, why he hadn't returned her messages that she left on his cell phone. But now I knew, he was one of the missing, but I couldn't tell her that. I then called another friend of mine, who happened to know her brother. She said she would call him and tell him he has to go see his sister and tell her in person - she shouldn't hear it over the telephone. The reality of what was happening was sinking in and it just made me sick. I held out hope for at least two weeks that they would be found alive. In the end we lost all of the six men working on the truck that day. If my husband would have been working, he would have been gone too. It was the first time I ever experienced the death of a firefighter that I knew and it hurt like hell. These were good men, with so much ahead of them. This is not the way it's supposed to be. The TV was on with Good Morning American when the reports of the first plane hitting the WTC came on. Until then, I had only been half listening, going about my normal routine (It was a beautiful, sunny day in Kansas City as well). While this was sad news, and many people were dying, this type of thing happens. So, other than the initial sadness and "oh those poor people" thought that you, I went on about my business. But, what I didn't expect was to turn around to get something out of my closet and hear on TV, "Another plane has hit the WTC!" I turned around in time to see flames and debris flying everywhere. All I could do was sink onto the edge of my bed, stunned. I don't think I was able to breath for a while there...This surely can't be an accident...the day was too pretty and clear on the TV screen. What then? How in the world could this happened? My husband, Tom, had left for work and my two daughters had already left for school so only my 8 year old son was home with me. He was watching cartoons and didn't really ask too many questions because he was in the other room and didn't seen to comprehend. It was just like watching an action movie on TV for him. Heck, I wish I was still that naive and didn't have to know the truth. I think my silent reaction helped to keep him calm. I don't think, well, I know that he doesn't and won't for a long time, understand the ramifications of what happened. I ended up being about 25 minutes late for work. I just couldn't seem to get things together. I called a co-worker on her cell phone. She was on her way to work, but hadn't heard the news yet. I told her, well, I'm not sure what happened but they are saying it couldn't have been an accident. What then? Aren't we, the big, mighty USA safe from those pathetic a-holes out there? We have no enemies...we are safe and take care of other countries... who would want to harm us? We're the good guys, dammit!!! I got to work and my husband, Tom, called to ask if I had heard and we told eachother "I love you". We talked for a few minutes more but there really wasn't anything to say besides "I love you". With each occurrance of terrorism that day, my feelings just kept going deeper and deeper, numb, shaky, nauseous, mad, angry, pissed..SCARED!!! The only sense of loss I could compare it to was the day my Dad died...and I didn't know anyone, or even know anyone who knew anyone, that was lost or injured in any of the catastrophes of 9-11. About 2:00 that afternoon, our boss called to tell us that we had better leave to go get gas because "they" were saying the prices were going sky-high. So, my co-worker and I each went to get gas. It was busy, but not horribly so, at Quik Trip. While sitting in line to get gas, I got even madder. Here, thousands of people are dying and we selfish people are concerned with high gas prices. Yet, the businesses were just as heartless as the terrorist--they were the ones charging the prices!!!! By 5:00pm, some gas stations here were charging more than $5.00 per gallon (Compared to the $1.25 it had been that morning). Needless to say, those gas stations are in a lot of trouble, as they should be. Tom and I went straight home that day after work to be with our kids. While I had the comfort of my three kids with us in our home, my step-sons live about 50 miles away. There just really wasn't any true peace because our entire family wasn't together. Even being more than a thousand miles away, we were scared silly. It just took everything out of us, mentally, physically and spritually. While the normalcy of our lives in the Mid-West didn't really change, I know my life did. Being only 16 and 18 years older than my daughters, we experienced this horrible thing together. This was the first horrible thing like this to happen to our country in our lifetime...that we could relate to and feel anyway. I tried to answer all of their questions as honestly as I could and comforted them when I got home--the girls had watched it all day long in school and had even seen the buildings going down. I always thought of the United States as being off-limits to these kinds of things. Operation Desert Storm was too far away for me...it didn't sink in at the age of 19. We were living in Oregon when the OK city bombing occurred so that seemed like a whole world away and it was even orchestrated by our own people--even though I hate to call them US citizens--they were. My daughters were younger than my son is now when that happened. So, thank goodness, they really don't remember that. So, it being almost 9 months later, I try to continue being nicer to people like I was for a while after 9-11. I try to remember how fortunate and lucky I am to have a wonderful Mom and brothers (and Dad who I miss dearly), the best husband and our combined (almost "brady bunch") family of 5 kids. I try not to take things for granted, even though I do. I think of all of the people out there who have lost someone or something because of this..To you I say I am sorry that other human beings could do this to you. I wish I could change things, knowing I can't, but I do think of all of you and pray for you and your loved ones. All of the sudden, a special news report came on and showed the first tower burning and the annoucers speculating on whether a bomb had blown up. Then they saw the wing of a plane sticking out of the first tower. I ran to the front room and threw a video in the VCR and began to tape. Little did I know I would be taping for the next 24 hours. My son and I sat nearly speechless as the coverage continued to play out. It was horrifying watching as the second plane hit the next tower, the pentegone was hit and the horrifying account of the last plane being taken over by the passengers. I dare a terrorist to try to take a plane again! The worst story I heard was about a man who had escaped the tower, only to be crushed to death by a body of someone who dove to their death instead of being burnt. An officer was standing next to them and relayed the story. I can't imagine living with the memory of something horrific besides what else he had to witness. I was sitting on my couch watching t.v when the breaking news came across N.B.C. All of a sudden i saw a plane crashing into one of the twin towers!. I really thought i was seeing things,it just didn't strike me that this was LIVE coverage as to what was happening at that very moment in the city of New York. When that plane struck that tower, i thought" oh my god,those people,all those people are going to be dead!. No words can describe how the impact of that plane hitting that tower had on everybody up here in canada. We are a country who pulls together in times of need, whether it be for friends and family or just total stranger's. The new's stations had their phones ringing off the hook, with people asking about what they had just witnessed on our local news channels.The aid started pouring in at that very moment. Our local police and fire departments, the red cross,just everyone. This had to be the worst day for everyone, in the world, except of course Afghanastan. The people behind this MUST pay for this tragedy they chose to put on the american people. I as a canadian will not sleep until i see president Bush get these people,whether it be one person or a million. How dare they take lives of our brother's, sister's and children. On Sept 11 I want you to know that you are all in our prayer's and thoughts, and we as canadian's stand as one with you and will be by your side on the day that these inhumane individuals ALL pay for the fear and heartaches they have endured onto our fellow neighbor's of america. My sister is married to an american whom which live in Georgia, and i live in fear daily knowing they could be the next victims. America please don't let your guard down ever until these hateful people are in hand. Tell us your story: On that fateful day that I will never forget as long as I live.I was serving jury duty for the first time and the judge had just given us a recess for about 15 mintues and we were in the break room and it seemed that the recess lasted forever, and finally the judge and the court stenorgafer came into the breakroom, and the judge look at us and told us about the world trade centers and the pentagon and the crash in Penn. and he said that they were dismissing us and for us to go home and pray for the victums and their families of this tradgedy. I left the court house and walk downtown to get a taxicab and when I got home I don't think that I remember how I did get here. I turned on the television and I sat down on my sofa and I watch as the first plane hit the south tower and then I watch the second plane hit the north tower and then a few minutes later I watch as both towers collasped. I could not beleive that this was happening in the United States of America, as my husband had served his counry for 20 years in the military first in VeitNam, then in Sardi Arabia, then the Red Sea and practically everywher else I thank the Lord above that he was no longer on active duty and then I thought of my oldest son who is in the Army and his a medic and where he might have to go and served his country, but as it turned out that never happened, because his company was not active duty. I still belevie in the United States of America and our goverment leaders and that in the end good will prevail over evil. And I beleive that the people who attacked us, are evil and that God will see to them in the end.When they have to stand before him and tell him their sins, then maybe they will be sorry then. I remember my alarm going off and thinking about skipping my 9 am class. After diecding that i couldnt miss I got and started to get ready for class. When i walked out of my room I noticed that the girls across the hall were up with their door open and they were glued to tge TV. They saw me and yelled somehtign about a plane hitting one of the world trade towers. I stood in their room watching the footage of what we thought was a terrible accident, then left when i realized i would be late for class. By the time i walked across the street and sat down the who would had changed. It wasnt an accident anohter plan had hit the other tower. Classes were clanceled so i walke dback to my doorm where i learned about missing plans and more hit buildings. I rememebr walking to the cafateria and everyone was eating, silent with eyes glued to the TV. I still get chills when i see the image of the second plane hitting. I remember seeing the building colapse thnking follishly that everyone got out. It didnt really hit me how much the world had changed untill my father who owns a business near detroit close to my home town and said that they wer closing down plants. Driving home that weekend i still rember the shock of driving by the Detroit airport and not seing a single plan land or take off. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: As it was to be a late day at the office, I was home when CNN broke in with the story of the first plane hitting. "Must have been an accident" I thought, but in the back of my mind, there was the recurring thought of the 1993 bombing, and of course, Oklahoma City. As the second plane hit, and that thought was confirmed, I thought, "What sort of person/persons would do such a thing to civilians?" Not knowing what else to do, I started driving to work, but decided to find out what was going on. Rather than listening to the usual FM top 40 fare, I turned into the all news AM station WWJ, and before I even got onto the freeway, the announcer stated that a plane had hit the Pentagon, and another was in Pennsylvania, somewhere. For those of you who are familiar with the Detroit area, you have no doubt experienced the grid-lock that is I-696. Not on September 11, 2001. It was eerie driving on what normally is a very busy, and slow freeway, and finding yourself all alone. When I reached the office in Southfield, the phones were quiet, and everyone had this look of horror on their faces, and they had not seen the images yet. They had only heard on the radio. After calling some family members, I decided that this was not a day that anything was going to get accomplished, so, I went back home, and sat glued to the television for a few hours. The big concern I had was "Where is the President?" He should be addressing the nation about this. Of course, Presidential security had taken care that POTUS was well protected, and surrounded by the fine men, and women of the United States Armed Forces, as he went from base to base. I suppose the most lingering thought I had that day was for Detroit's large population of people of Arabic, and Chaldean descent. There is always that element of the population that pins the blame on an entire group of people, no matter how innocent they may be. There were indeed some threats to harm, or kill people from those areas, or their descendants, but for the most part, most people were too hurt, angry, or stunned to do anything rash. As someone who has lived in the Detroit area for five years, I can honestly say that the thing that those of us who did not lose loved ones that day should remember from September 11th is that for a little while, the acrimony between black, and white was forgotten, and for that short time, we were Americans first. Yes, we suffered a terrible loss, but together, we COULD overcome. May God continue to bless America. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: Chris Castro Global 5/13/02 World Trade Center September 11, 2001 was the worst day of any American citizens life. I was in Earth science third period when the assistant teacher Ms. Neuman was telling Ms. Kersch about the tragedy. No one really knew if it was true or not. Then Ms. Kersch turned on the television. We were all witness to a historical tragedy occurring and it was horrifying. We all couldn't believe our eyes. The one World Trade Tower was on fire and lots of smoke was coming out of it. Millions of people were fleeing away from the tragedy to save themselves. After that class everyone was talking about it, and we watched it in every class during the day. The media had a huge impact on this event because the had live footage of the incident and brought breaking news every second. This incident will have a big impact on my life because this was an enormous tragedy for the United States. It also p ut us in a big debt by using all of are surplus money. We had to make provisions as well for our new military. The World Trade Center wasn't the only building to get attacked. The Pentagon was also attacked. It didn't collapse like the other buildings did. A plane hit one side of the building and started a fire. Because of these attacks there is now very strict security at airports and other important places that terrorists would consider as key targets that could hurt our country. Our country now is taking extreme precautions to fight terrorism. This tragedy will be in history books to come. I feel extremely sad and fortunate to have seen this occur as I was growing up. My children and grand children will ask about the attacks someday and I can tell them everything that happened because I lived through it. But yet I still feel sorrow for the people who died and for their suffering families.
