Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: 9-14-01 The city has emerged from the initial shock and numbness. There is more traffic on the streets now that the bridges have been opened, more people going about their daily routines, but clearly not their "normal" lives. Because of all the bomb threats (90 of them yesterday) people are, understandably, jumpy. The overriding sound in this part of the city is sirens. There are signs posted everywhere. On bus stop shelters, fences that surround parks and playgrounds, lamp posts, bulletin boards, store windows. Some signs ask people to donate blood, others list supplies that are needed downtown, others have a photo and the specifics about a missing loved one. Snatches of conversation on the street are almost always about the attack. I called a collection center yesterday about what things were needed. I brought bags of dry socks, face masks, goggles and work gloves. The center where I brought the items is a big cavernous room. The floor has been divided up into sections with masking tape, so that there is a place to put each item that is required. What looked like substantial bags of goods while walking over, the items, once placed on the floor of the collection center, looked puny and insignificant. This morning, with the rain, they are asking for ponchos, sweatshirts, dry clothing. Signs ask for batteries, flashlights, the list changes daily. Now that the rain has stopped, the needs will change again. The only way to describe the reality here is to say that things that seemed so important and significant three days ago, and still are in many ways, are difficult to focus on. But life must go on and that means doing all the mundane things we all do everyday. Even when it seems odd in the face of this enormous tragedy. I hope everyone is safe. We have teams at our school then and we were watching a movie that day and i had to go up to the main office and they were talking about planes hitting a building, I didn't pay any attention to it until one of my teachers came back into the room and told our class that planes had hit the world trade centers and we all started thinking this couldn't be possible. Some people started crying. We had a early dismassel day and so my last class that day was Band class and we had the option to go into our media center and watch the coverage of what was happening. Whenever i try to finish watching "Chicken Run" i can't because we were watching it when we found out what happened. When i got home that afternoon i called my dad at work and told him i loved him so much and that i would always love him. I turned on my regular morning radio station, and heard the DJs from a different station that I also listen to. I wasn't really listening at that point to what they were saying; it sounded like they were talking about some stupid hollywood action movie: buildings blowing up, etc. I switched to the station that they're normally on, and heard the same thing. At this point, I came up to a sign that was usually used for construction messages, you know "exit will be closed 9/23/01" etc. But it said "Airport closed - All flights cancelled". Having been a teenager in the 80's, the first thing that came to my minda was that there was a nuclear bomb coming, or something like that. I actually started listening to the radio at that point, and what I heard was almost as bad. I got out my cell phone and told my boyfriend to turn on the TV, that something bad had happened. I got off the phone after I told him, and called my mom, who said she'd talked to my sisters and neice, and that they were coming over to watch the news. They all stayed home from work that day, glued to the TV. I was glad to know they were all together in one place. They live an hour away with no traffic, so I kept going into work, where my co-workers are my other family. I dragged out a little television that I keep there, and we all watched in miniature the replay of the planes hitting the building over and over, listened to President Bush speak, and watched the changing death toll numbers. Not much work got done that day, but no one wanted to go home and be alone, so most of us stayed late. My next class was next door so i had 4 minutes to go talk to my best friend. Well when those 4 minutes were up I ran into my classroom and the teacher was crying and the tv was turned onto the news and it was saying a bunch of stuff about the twin towers in New York. So then I was really worried about my grandparents and my family because they live there! So I started to cry for the safty of my family. Then the princlable walked in and told our tearcher to turn the news off and continue with our lesson. Of course no one was going to do that because we were all going to talk about it and not pay any attention to the lesson. So what happened was the teacher was very worried about anyones family getting hurt so she asked if anyone wanted to use the phone. I really did because i wanted to talk to me mom and Dad to make sure that they were ok and the rest of my family. So I had to wait in a really long line so the teacher said that the last people could go down to the office. I wanted to go but of course other teachers had done the same and there was like a million kids in the front office. I was waiting and if you know me i am a very impatient girl and really had to use the phone. So i used the phone finally and I called my mom first because I she would probably have the tv on and she would have a chance to call our grandparents and friends. So when i called her she had already called them and asked if everyone was ok. She said that everyone was ok and not hurt. She asked if i was fine and I said yes crying. so once that i knew that my family was ok then i could stop crying and finnaly finish my day. My friends uncle had worked in the trade centers so I was trying to comfort and console her because he had been hurt. When I got home I was really trying not to cry but I turned on the news and watched in fear. My mom was explaning it to me so i would understand it better. It was like one bad thing was happening after another and another. When i heard that a mall in pennslivania was hit with a plane I was scared and so was my mom because my grandparents also live close to Penn. and I was worried so my mom called them again and I talked to them and made sure i was ok. As i went to bed that night I lie awake and cry for the people and firefighters that died to day and i prayed for them. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: On that dark day on Sepember 11, 2001 that changed America forever, I was driving home from bring my son to Pre-School. I turned on my favorite radio station. I heard the radio station 93.3 say that there has been a plane crash into the WTC. I began crying hysterically, because I had just dropped my husband off to fly out that morning. I did not know anything about the flight. I was also 8 months pregnant. I will never forget the feeling I had inside my heart, mind and body that day. I ran home to call my husband employer to find out if he was ok. I could barely speak w/o crying. They told me that they were trying to contact him and find out if he was ok. My husband's co-workers and company were beyond words can describe. They are wonderful people. They were offering me help and anything if I needed it. Thank God I found out about 12 noon that my husband was alive and ok. He was one of the lucky one's that never took that flight. I can't really describe every emotion that I am still feeling like many Americans. I watch and listen to the stories of all the victims families and read the sorrow. I marvel at the emotionless people sometimes. I know that there are so many things that make America great. Everyone has there owm religion and opinions. But some of these women want to act like heros on the TV and in articles. I don't believe that those victims were meant to get killed or meant to be on those planes. It was not there time to die and it was not there calling. Americans died because of a evil, ruthless act of terrorism. We live with fear all around us now. We are angry, and hurt and mourning the lose America suffered. If any body say's that they are not angry even a little bit , they are lying. We are human and we feel many emotions. I think it is wonderful that some of Americans have there faith to help them cope. But I say it again that every one has feelings and everyone mourns and cries. I comend Lisa Beamer for being so brave. I am very strong person. I can just about handle anything that is thrown my way. But there comes a time to stop and realize that we don't always have to be the string one and the hero. It is ok to break down and cry and mourn. This is just my opinion, it does not seem right or normal to get on national TV and take a plane ride a few days after your soul mate and husband is killed and America is mouring such terrible lose that words can not even describe. I still cry when I think about what happened and I cried watching the coverage. America suffered terribly and it will take a while to recover. We will move on and try to rebuild our hearts of America and the hearts of our children and our personal hearts. I know I am lucky and my kids are lucky to have a dad and my husband to hug and kiss every night, to play with and ask for help. I have a wonderful family, and I thank god every day I am blessed with my family and health. He left to go to work when I turned on the TV. I wasn't paying to much attention to the telivision when i over heard a special report with peter jennings. I turned to the screan and they were taking about the First World Trade Center and it being struck by the plane. I watch in disbelief. I hollered at my mother in the other room and had asked her if she had the tv on. she didnt so i ran to the living room and turned it on. as we sat there and watched not believing what was going on. At that moment the second plain had just hit the second WTC building. I broke down in tears asking my mom if it was a movie. She had said that she didnt think that it was. that it was for real. It hit my heart hard. knowing that there were many people in the building and that they had no chance of making it out. It wasn't like watching the news about an earthquake in california or watching a plane crash or a accident on the tv or radio it was real. it was different. But i knew this, it hurt bad deep in me. my mother left for work in a different town 100 miles from home. as i sat at the house alone, i took the small tv from my room and placed it next to the computer. i watched it while i was online. many people were mad and wanted to kill bin ladin (although in my mind i couldn't say that i wasn't trying to plot something to get back at him myself). I sat there watching things escalate more when they were talking about 2 more unaccounted for plane's. Not knowing what was going to happen i started to wonder what was on these peoples minds. while on the internet chatting with friends from my area a woman from the wyoming area that was living in NYC came in the room looking for someone to talk to. she was upset and distrat that her husband wasnt answering her calls. and that she was trying to find where he was. i thought at first she was just using the oppertunity to get alittle attention. so i privet chatted with her and talked more to her about it. as we went on she asked me if she could call me that she would pay for the call. i agreed seams as how she was pretty upset. i got off the internet and she called me 5 minutes later. having caller id on my phone the number came through as a NY call. i looked it up in my little Area code book that i made and found that in fact she was calling for NYC. My heart sunk knowing that at first i didnt believe her and here she was in person on the phone talking to me crying and upset that her husband wasnt getting back to her. I calmed her down and we started to talk about what she could do to find him and make sure that he was ok. I told her after she did these things that i wanted her to call me back. I wanted to make sure that she found him. i hung up with her after getting her to collect herself. After i hung up i got back online for a few minutes and started chatting back in the origonal chat room i was in and people in there were being mean about the woman i was talking to. i stood up for her and told them to not be so judging. it could be them. then out of the blue while watching the tv at the same they were talking about the unaccounted for plane's. It had happened. It had struck to close to home. I had heard that on of the planes had crashed in somerset pensylvaina. i started to get worried. i pulled up a map and looked at it to see just how close to home it hit. and sure enough it had hit less than a mile from where my best uncle (grew up together like brother and sister) was living and working. i tried to call but couldnt get through. lines were all busy. I called my mother and told her that it struck there in PA and she started to cry over the phone she said for me to keep trying and that she would try to to get ahold of him. (my uncle was my mothers son, my grandmother, she raised me sence i was 2 weeks old so she has the right to be called mom in my book.) i was so upset that i was even afraid to go outside. knowing what was going on and what not i didnt want to go outside. i was to afraid that something might happen to us. thinking about the fact that if they were striking. i was concerned about them next hitting all the missil sites. beings that there is one in cheyenne wyoming. i only live 170 miles or so from there. still tring to call my uncle i got back to chatting and watching tv. when a message came up on my screen. someone was calling me. so i popped off and got the call. it was the gall in NYC. she had found her husband. God must have been with him. as that he was late getting to work at the WTC. and that he was a few blocks away but that he made it out intacted. she was happy. i felt good that he made it out. my heart started to sink more as i heard over the phone the cry of a young child. maybe 4-6 months old. i hung up with her and started thinking how tragic it would be if he had not been late. it hurt so much that i didnt want to think about it anymore. the day had gone by and i had yet to get ahold of my uncle. Crying and sobbing over the whole insadent. my husband came home from work. he had heard everything going on over the radio. we had heard that they were taking a picture with the satelite in space of the USA at 8 pm and that they wanted to have candles lite. (this i heard online) so me and my husband lit two candles and stood in our front yard. I didnt know if my neibors heard about it but as we stood there my neigbors came out for there houses with lit candles. we all stood there in the middle of the road (side roads for a trailer court) huddled with our candles praying for the loved ones that were taken in this tragic insadent. tears of remorse came down our faces. it was so hard for us to take what was going on. we stood there for a few hours with our candles. some of the candles would burn out but there was a neigbor that had extras and he would go around to the ones that were going out and light it the blow out the flame of the one that was almost gone. we didnt know how long we should stand there and not wanting to be the firsts one to leave the group we all stood there praying. (not being the religious type i do attend church at times and i do though on christmas and easter but not regular at anyother times). 3 days went by. Then the phone rang. it was my uncle. he told us how he seen the plane crash and that it wasnt that far from him. we were happy that he was ok but still sad that there were so many other people out there that had lost there loved ones. i didnt want to seam selfish. i was told i wasnt selfish but i felt that when i thought about how my uncle was still alive and with the family that loves him when other peoples uncls brothers sisters mothers fathers, sons and daughts were dead or missing. This tragety is hard for everyone to take. but in the end we will all show how strong we are as a nation and that this may knock us on our asses (excuse the medifor) but that we will get back up stronger than ever and we will fight back. I hate war. I think fighting is wronge but i also think that it is wronge for someone that has taken over 3000 lives should be allowed to run free and not be caught. and that he should be caught, and ran through our justice system. I know they say that he any crimanal should get a fair trial. but i also think that this trial would be as fair as it can be. keeping in mind that there were so many deaths, In my oppinion the man should be allowed to live. In our prison systems. and not in solitary. but out were the general population can get at him. so that he can die an old man knowing that everyone in our country dispies the man. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: The first thing i hear in the morning is my brother waking me up, telling me that someone crashed into the world trade center. In my waking haze i had thought i had misheard him. To my horror, i found out the truth as i turned on my Television. Not one plane, but two. Only minutes later my mother, brother and myself witnessed the collapse of the North Tower, followed shortly by the collapse of the South Tower. I can remember every thought that went through my head, and the eerie silence i found throughout the house and the entire neighborhood as i stepped outside to have a glance at the skies. Every thought i had was grief, rage, and helplessness as i have never felt before. Here i stood doing nothing more than passively watching the tragedy unfold on TV. I felt the urge to do more but not one thought came to mind. I have never fully trusted many charities for obvious reasons made public by the Red Cross' abuse of funds and blood. The only thing i could do was offer up one brief silent prayer. And believe me, that is saying something. I'm not relegious by nature, but on that day, i don't think there were any Atheist. Everyone belived that there was someone out there taching them. and now, one year later, i send up another prayer to the souls who made the ultimate sacrifice to awaken us from our passive state of sppon fed media induced hypnosis and back into reality. I had been by myself in the car & nad been medivaced to Bachus Memorial Hospital. Therefore, I was watching the Today show. While in the shower my wife told me that the news channel was reporting a plane crash, and that the plane had hit one of the Trade Towers. I thought that was odd, what a wierd thing for a plane to accidently crash and hit a building. When I had gotten out of the shower, she told me that another plane had hit, and we both knew it was an attack of some sort. At the time I had a yucky job at Big Valley Internet. They would not let us watch or listen to the news, so I snuck and listen to my buddies tiny workout radio all day. He let me borrow it since his type of tech work took him out into the field and he could listen to his radio. I listen so intently all day, with mixed emotions. Today I work for LLNL a weapons defense lab. I can say that I contribute to the research that will one day kill Usama as well as Saddam. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I was on campus at Purdue getting ready to kickoff our Fall interview campaign. One of my colleagues ran towards the group and told us what had happened. At first we didn't think much of it, beyond a horrible plane wreck. It didn't take long though to realize what actually had happened. I was scheduled to return home to Austin, Texas later that evening. The reason for this submission is because of the heroism I witnessed far away from Ground 0. I've never seen people come together like that - helping complete strangers, all working together to accomplish a common goal - to get home. I was stranded nearly a week, and was able to finally catch a flight from Indianapolis to Chicago - the only flight out that day. I spent nearly 18 hours at O'Hare, something which normally would've sent me over the edge. But it was different. It was as if total strangers had come together like close families while at the airport. Our flights (as you would expect) would be scheduled/cancelled/rerouted/you name it - and across the airlines. Any airline would get you to where you needed to go, if they were able. No need to mess with tickets. I met this lady, who apparently was a sort of VIP in her company in Austin. She had asked me if she could share my electric outlet (I was working from a laptop and needed recharged). Her travel agent did all the work to find her flight after flight for her to jump on, which took hours. The agent finally said they were "rerouting the limo" which was on it's way back from New York to pick her up in Chicago and drive her back to Austin. She immediately looked at me (and the couple I had "adopted") and told us that she would ensure we had a seat in her limo. The couple I had adopted was an elderly couple from England, who were rerouted into Canada on their flight into Austin to visit their daughter. They were held up in Canada, very well taken care of - but when they got to Chicago, they were very lost, not knowing how to manipulate the flight schedules. I had promised them I would get them back to Austin one way or another and had them stay in touch with their daughter. What would we ever do without cell phones? After numerous changes of flights, we ALL finally made it onto a flight which went to Dallas (only a 3 hour drive from there to Austin if we had to!) We all boarded (near 11:00). The crew was fantastic! We were all extremely tired. Once we got into Dallas, our connecting flight to Austin had been cancelled. A bomb threat in the Dallas airport meant a very long evacuation into the parking lots during the wee hours of the morning, and a couple lap walk around the airport (literally). At roughly 2:30 AM, a "volunteer" flight crew was assembled (every one of the crew were Austinites wanting nothing more than to go home). What an interesting flight! It's about an hour drive from the Austin airport to my house (and quite a bit shorter I discovered when you're driving it at 3:30 AM). I still had the elderly couple with me. As it turned out, their daughter lived in my own neighborhood! What a small - AND wonderful (most of the time) world we live in. I hope I get to see humanity in this light again, this time without the tragedy that went along with 9/11. I was told that on 9/7 they wanted me to be in town near the hospital (Marquette) as my pregnancy was complicated (on bedrest), my labors are short, major construction delays en route to the hospital and that the hospital is 1 1/2 hrs from home. So we get a hotel and we all are to stay there until I have the baby. No specific date in mind. They are gonna induce on 9/14 when i am 38 weeks for medical reasons. A few times during the hotel stay I go in for false alarms. So here it is the morning of 9/11 and it is my oldest daughter's 4th birthday and I have no money at all to buy her anything and no celebration or anything and she's asking about a party and I am telling her to wait until the baby comes. So I am feeling bad for her. Well the hotel phone rings and it's my SIL telling me to turn on the news. Said there was a plane crash. That's all she said. Tv was on as that's all there is to do. It was on Nick Jr. Blues Clues. Unfortunatley we saw it happening, the towers falling, etc. My dtr saw it. But she doesn't understand it. We cried and my husband freaked out telling me to go to the hospital and I said I can't I'm not in labor. They will send me home. It was just really scary and being pregnant was especially scary. It felt the end of the world came, and that there was no point in having my baby. After a while we did turn the tv off and I took daughter to the pool in the hotel against my bed rest orders. We were just numb. I snapped at the kids a lot unfortunately. I really wish I didn't. The hotel calls to make sure we are still staying because they are filling up fast as the airport is closed. Well somehow it is 11 pm at night now and i get horrible cramping. I call the hospital and they have me come in. There is all these lines of cars at the gas pumps freaking me out even more (they were like this all day) I wonder if I will make it to the hospital, my gas tank is on empty. We have no money at all as I am not on any assistance programs to this date and been off work since June. So I am really worried about getting back to my hometown too. I get to the hospital, and they do tests and at 3 am decide I can go or stay that the BP is stable and there is no pre-clampsia. I watched the clock go to midnight and sighed that the day was over. Relieved I didn't have baby on 9/11! I decided to go back to the hotel. The gas pumps are free. I manage to get some gas with money I borrowed. First thing in the morning I have a non stress test which baby fails so back to the hospital. They keep me monitered all day and I am 1 cm so 8 am on 9/13 they are gonna break my water. Meanwhile all I am watching on tv is coverage. I think if I remember correctly the broke it about 9 or 10. I know at 12 if I didn't have contraction they were gonna start pictocin. At 2 pm they finally started pictocin. You know them hospitals have a bad concept of time. At 4:10 I got my first contraction they were intense I was progressing along with dialation. At around 4:25 I said I had to push and it was so funny the doctor came running down the hall. Meanwhile I said watch I am only 4 cm. I was. I sure scared her. Anyway around 4:40 I had to push and they didn't believe me. After several this way they said to each other that my urge to push hasn't eased up. So they went and got the OB and dang I was 10 cm and in a 3-4 pushes Cheyenne was born at 4:47 pm So that's my 9/11 experience. Some good amongst the bad. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I was in NYC about a week before Sept.11, a day we should never forget, after 3 months working at a Summer camp in PA. I'm from Australia and NYC is one of my favorite cities. I remember my travelling buddy had to spend half her day at the UK embassy to get her visa, and thus I was free to roam around NYC. I visited various parts of NYC and then arrived at the Twin Towers, which was an awesome sight, looking up at the buildings. I went inside the foyer and decided to visit the viewing platform. But then I had second thoughts. I didn't want to go up by myself and decided that I'd visit again with with my travelling buddy when we arrived back in NYC 6 weeks later, after our travels around USA. Sadly, I never got the chance to see NYC from the Tower. We arrived in Yellowstone NP on Sept.11 and watched the TV, in horror, as we saw footage of the Twin Towers falling, the plane exploding, etc. It was like a hollywood movie, but it was real. I was upset and shocked. My thoughts were of my fellow Counselors from Summer Camp whom were possibly in NYC still; it was an aweful feeling. Upon our return to NYC, what had been an amazing experience standing in the shadow of the Twin Towers was nothing more now than a pile of rubble. The smell is something I will never forget, and the dust everywhere; total destruction. I didn't get the chance to look down on NYC, but I looked up.. and remembered the fall'n. After the Pentagon was hit I called one of my news clients and went to work for them. They sent me to New York with a reporter and producer that night to cover the story first hand. We were working from the shores of the Hudson in New Jersey as Manhattan was closed when we got there. It was dark when we arrived that night and only got a few hours of sleep before we had to go to work for the morning news. It was before sunrise when we went on the air but as the sun slowly lit the sky we began to see the relentless plume of smoke rising from the ruins. By the second day we began to wonder how long it would take for the lives and souls of these people to burn. On thursday I went into the city on a train to cover the aftermath first hand. We started at the Javis Center where FEMA was head quartered. There were thousands of people lined up around the block to volunteer. Others were bringing food and water for them. Inside we saw all kinds of heavy equipment and rescue gear. There were also exhausted firefighters and EMTs sleeping on the floor. Even the rescue dogs looked spent. One of the most stark images were the concrete saws covered in dust after cutting victims from their tombs. We then went as close to Ground Zero as possible. All of lower Manhattan smelled of a bad electrical fire. People were wearing maskes to filter it. One of our other crews went to the church where people were filling out missing persons reports. They were climbing over each other to show a picture of a lost relative on camera in hopes that they had survived. One woman broke down as she was being interviewed. Walls all over the city were lined with pictures of the missing. After four days we had to return to Washington. One of our satellite trucks had a spot 6 blocks from Ground Zero. We left there at 6:30 pm Saturday. By 1:30 am Sunday we were driving by the Pentagon, the first any of us had seen the building first hand. We had seen both sites in the same day. The images are horrific and will stay with me forever. I will also remember how the people of New York and Washington came together to help in any way they could. Just when something happens to make you wonder what evil exists in the world, the everyday heroes remind you of what we are capable of. With no air travel options, I went by train and had two very moving encounters with firefighters that day. First, while waiting for the train home in Penn Stattion, a column of firefighters arrived by train and was heading to Ground Zero. As they cross the lobby of Penn Station, everyone stopped and applauded them for as long as they were in sight. Later on the train home, I stood in line in the Cafe Car with a group of firefighters from East Providence RI heading home for their city shift after several days at Ground Zero. As we stood in line, one of the firefigheters noticed a photo mural in the AmTrack Cafe car---a picture of the lower Manhattan skyline with the World Trade Center Towers visible and prominent in the picture. Immediately, these tough fire figthers all developed tears in their eyes--so moved by the reminder of where they had been...and where they were going to return as soon as their city shifts were done. On the morning of September 11, 2001 I was on the front of the house with my younger daughter hugging me. My wife just dropped of our older daughter to school. So we proceeded like any ordinary day to the Path in Harrison. On the way to work I was thinking of the day before how some of the workers were laid off and how lucky I still had a job. I arrived at the world trade center and went to the front of the building facing the west side highway to have a smoke, like I do every morning. I heard a loud roar above me so I looked up and seen from the reflection of the buildings in front an explosion. The ground shock like an earth quake and first thing I thought was to run for cover. I first thought to hide in front of the widows, but decided to go into the building. So I ran in and as my last foot was in the entrance all the debree hit the ground. The windows exploded into the building and the elevator door blew open with fire. On impact I fell to the ground and everything went over and on top of me, it felt like a life time. I opened my eyes a few times and watched it as it happened. I remember being knocked out and dreaming of my daughters and wife like this was all a dream. After I woke up I got up and looked around and could not see much, just fire and dark smoke, but I noticed a bright light which looked like an exit. I ran out and hide behind the building next to it. Someone asked if I needed help and if I was ok. I told them I think so and I looked at myself and had blood all over me. I told him I need to the hospital. So he helped me to find more help. As I was walking I looked up and seen the big hole at the building were I worked. People just kept jumping; it felt like a bad dream the whole time I was looking for help. We found an officer and she tried to help me. We walked around till we found an ambulance. On the west side by the entrance was more people that were hurt so they kept us there till another explosion happened. I got up and ran for my life and went behind the buildings in front of me. There were all the ambulances and people to help us. We waited for sometime to see if there more injured people, but all there was so far was six of us. So they decided to send us first to the hospital and as we left the building started to disappear. Two world trade center started to fall and in my mind I was wishing the ambulance would just go faster. We then got the hospital and they helped us in, I was there till 12:00PM or so and they contacted my family to tell them I was ok. I was given some pain killers and had my arms cleaned from the burns. Then is when the pain started to kick in and I was in a faint state. I was told they had to release me because they are expecting more people. So I signed the release paper and began to walk around NYC. I wanted around NYC hiding from the sun because the sun just burned my skin more. I arrived by METLIFE building around 22nd Street and the people there offered to help me. I was given food and had one of there doctors see me. They removed some dead skin that I had on my left arm. I also showered and was given fresh cloth. They then let me speak with my wife on there phone. After a while I went to visit a friend of mine in NYC because I was told NYC was blocked off. I stayed there till 5:00PM and then tried to head home. I took the Path on 32nd Street and then arrived in Newark. I met up with my family and they took me to the hospital at Saint Barnabas. There they treated me the right way for my burns. I had second and third degree burns. I went back to the hospital for three weeks to be treated for them. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: How did God feel about this? My name is Ana. I am a mother of two young boys ages 10 and 6. I had just woken up, turned on the news as I usually do before I wake my children to get them ready for school. And woke up to the news and found out that a plane had just collided into the New York Twin Towers. It took me a minute to process but as many people thought "It was an accident". Then the next plane hits. Confusion, disbeleif hits me. I was in shock. Are we being invaded? and why were we being invaded? Who's responsible for this! Is L.A. next? My children! my children! how do I protect my children? Just then my husband walks in from work, I was so glad to see him home. We are both still in "shock and disbelief" starring at the television. I decided in my unstable state of mind that I was going to take my kids off to school. I woke them up and told them "Look someone crashed an airplane into the into the Twin Towers in New York" They asked my husband and I, "Who did it?" My husband and I responed by telling him " Some Bad Guys." My sons asks why? we said "We don't know why, they're trying to figure it out". They were confused, we were confused. I managed to get my children off to school. As I walked into the school yard parents looked like I felt. They looked so disoriented, some mothers were sobbing unsure whether to leave their children alone without them in school. In my unstable condition somehow I thought that they would be safe, and if something should happen I would be near by to retreat them. Horror, confusion and sorrow still lingures. "Saddness and Anger rolled up into one". How did God feel about this? That mourning I got up got ready for work, I have to be there at 7:00 a.m. we get ready to serve, breakfast to the students,and I go to Balto. Highlands to help with breafast there. When I got back to the Middle School the girls told me that a plane hit the tower in New york. What they hit a tower in New York! I was shock at what happen. Then My one friend Summer went home to get her Tv And we watched in horror we could'nt believe what we saw then it got worse when they hit the Pentagon I said now they are hitting at home. I was and everyone else were crying for all people that was killed. Then the college called me to come and get my son from there they were closing school.
