Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I woke up early in the morning to go to my 9 a.m. Communications class at George Mason University. I wasn't feeling very well. I felt nausea, for what reason, I did not know. I thought about missing class, but I had a long day ahead of me on Tuesdays. And since school had just started, I didn't want to start of by missing participation points. So, I dragged myself to school. I felt horrible during class. I had a headache and I felt like throwing up. I tried to shake it off, and I still participated in the group activity at hand. We were dismissed from that class at around 10:00 a.m. I stayed behind with the teacher to ask her a question regarding my topic on our first speech. As I was leaving, one of the students from my class came and told my teacher that an airplane had hit one of the World Trade Center buildings. I thought to myself, "Gee, that sucks". Then, I left the room and proceeded to the Johnson Center, where I would wait until my next class, which did not start until 12:00 p.m. As I was walking to the JC, I received a voicemail message on my cell phone. It was from my mom. She had left a message telling me to call her. Her voice sounded worried. I tried and tried to call her in the office, but the line was busy. I got to the JC and I sat with one of my friends. Everyone was in a frenzy! There were monitors in the JC and people were watching the news. Everyone was trying to call their parents. People who had relatives in New York and people whose parents worked at the Pentagon. None of the cell phones would connect. I thought to myself, "What's the date today?". And I realized that it was 9/11. While all of this was going on, I still felt ill, and I couldn't get in touch with my mom, who worked at the World Bank. I did not want to attend my Theatre 210 class at 12 p.m. any longer. But, I also did not want to just miss it. So, I decided to just drop the class. It was a 2 hour and 45 minute class every Tuesday, that I got lazy to go to. Especially with everything going on around me, I really did not want to attend. Since I dropped that class, I went home. I still had a 4:30 p.m. IT 103 class that afternoon, so I still had to go back. As I was walking to the parking lot, my mom calls my cell phone from our house. She got off early from work, since they sent her home. My mom told me that she was calling me because I had gotten test results back from my appointment at the doctor's the week before. I had a mild liver infection. That was why I was feeling sick. So I get home and relatives had called asking if we were alright. My boyfriend who lives in Toronto, Canada had also called me. He got out of school early too. As we were watching TV, the channels kept playing and replaying the image of the planes hitting the Twin Towers. I called the George Mason University Information line and asked if classes had been cancelled for the afternoon. And they were! So, I no longer had to return to school for my 4:30 p.m. class. For the rest of the afternoon/evening, I just stayed home and watched the news. Our nation was under attack.To watch the desperation of people jumping from the towers broke my heart. All the people here at work were in tears. As we stood in the bank kitchen we watched in horor as the towers fell to the ground. All the lived lost. All the fathers, mothers chrildren, friends and famliy members. That would have never known that on that day they would never see them again.This day has forever changed my life and the way I look at US as a nation. The Star Bangled Banner has never been so true. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I grew up in a New York City suburb. I graduated from the State University of New York at Purchase. I lived in a quintessential mid-town west Manhattan walk-up studio apartment for almost ten years and celebrated a lifestyle similar to the one portrayed through the character Carrie in the early episodes of HBO's "Sex In The City". My company relocated me to San Francisco in May, 2001. I still harbored the acclaimed New York City sassy-girl attitude five months later. On September 11, 2001 I woke up to the radio alarm clock and trudged into the shower (5:40am PT); as usual. I had just gotten out of the shower and left water marked foot prints across the wood floors of the bedroom when I heard KFOG, the local San Franisco radio station, announce that an airplane had crashed into the World Trade Center (about 5:50am). I thought "oh, some rich jerk crashed his private plane into the tower," and continued to towel dry my hair while remembering a story from the prior week about some guy parachuting and getting caught on Lady Liberty's torch. Then the words, "American Airlines flight..." hit my ears like a Yankee fastball. I grabbed the edge of the bureau and stared at the radio alarm clock. The DJ continued, "...commercial airline jet...", "holy shit," I exclaimed and a wave of nausea overwhelmed me. I tried to call my Mother in Yonkers but the phone lines were busy. I tried to call my friends in Queens, but the phone lines were busy. I tried to call my NYPD friend who worked in the Bronx, but, the phone lines were busy. I tried to call more friends in Manhattan, but, the phone lines were busy. I sat half dressed by the phone on the cold wood floor of my converted Victorian apartment; hugged my knees to my chest and cried. I stopped hearing the words on the radio; didn't think to turn on the television. I was naked and defenseless. I couldn't stop the pit of my gut from being ripped out. I automatically picked up the phone and tried to call my Mother again; the phone lines were busy... I didn't need news stories to tell me what I was instinctually feeling. My city had been attacked. My city had been betrayed. I felt isolated and very scared. I felt as if I had abondoned my city; the city that had always stood tall and been a secure haven for me - a single city gal. I became an numb soul thrown into a pit of irrational horror. Nightmares started within a few weeks. I haven't visited home (home to me is still New York City) since moving out here to San Francisco almost a year and half ago. But, I am going in October (2002). I'm hoping New York City isn't going to hold it against me that I had moved shortly before its twins died. Or, perhaps, maybe my relocation happened because New York City wanted to protect my heart; like it always has. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: The day starting out to be like any other, I was sitting in my 2nd period World Cultures class. We were given a test that day, and we started to work on it. Soon, a teacher came running into my class, and whispered to my teacher to turn on the TV. As soon as she turned it on, the first thing I saw was one of the towers engulfed with flames and smoke. I didn't really know what to think. As we watched in silence, not really knowing what to do or say, my teacher had tears streaming down her face. I read all the captions desperately trying to figure out what was going on. Soon after the TV was turned on, we watched in amazement as the second plane hit into the other tower. I was stunned, I had never seen something like that take place live. We spent the rest of our class talking about what was happening, but for the most part we sat in silence as we watched all this madness take place. Throughout the day, the teachers kept the TVs on so we could see what was happening, but still went on with the regular lesson plan. I couldn't really concentrate on Trigonometry when the financial capital of the world was falling apart. I got a call later on in the day around 1:00 saying that I needed to go pick up my brother from school, and come home. As soon as I got out to my car, I called my mom, not really knowing what to think. As the phone rang, I kept thinking about what had happened that I needed to go home. When she answered she said, "We can't find Uncle Lewis and Big Lou, you need to come home, in case we need to go to New Jersey." I was shocked, I had totally forgot that my uncle and his father had worked at the World Trade Center. I was at a loss of words and I just told my mom that I'd be home as soon as possible. When I got home my mom was on the phone with my aunt. I soon found out that my uncle's father was running late to work and was just gotten off the subway when the first plane hit. As for my uncle, he was working in his other office across town, so thankfully he was safe. I didn't find out all the details about my uncle's father except that he was in the hospital but in critical condition. When I found out about this tragedy I didn't know how to feel. But when I realized that my family could've been victims in this, in hit pretty close to home. My first emotion was, worry. Next came, anger. How could something like this happen in this day and age? I'm upset about how any human being could have the courage to try and destroy a nation. Us as a nation seemed to fall apart, but we realized that we need to keep our heads up and fight for freedom and justice. I'm saddened at the fact that thousands of people lost their lives, many innocent people doing their job, whether it is a fireman or policemen, or those people at the office for the day. I can't help but feel anger towards everyone in Afghanistan but then when I realized that they were fighting just to stay alive, I knew it wasn't their fault. I'm proud of our country in fighting for freedom, and keeping our heads up. I know that we can get through this terrible time and fight for what's right. My boyfiend and I were arriving in St. Louis on the 10th to spend a couple of vacation days there and then on to K.C. to visit his sister. I remember waking up and turning on the T.V. to see what the weather was going to be like, and in my astonishment saw the first plane hitting the tower. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. At first I wondered if this was some kind of weird movie. And then came the reporters saying this had just happened. I was just mortified. I woke up my boyfriend and was telling him what had happened and we both saw the second plane hit the next tower. We were glued to the T.V. until we had to check out if the motel. I remember we both felt so lost. We wern't sure what to do. And then we found out all the government buildings were being closed. We didn't know what to think or what to do! We decided to head for his sister's house so we could be close to family. When we got there everyone was making a mad dash to get gas, it was so crazy! When we saw his sister we were all just in a daze. We couldn't believe what was happening! We all stayed glued to the T.V. for that whole day. In the process we were phoning all of our family everywhere to see how they were. A couple of days later we came home to still be overwhelmed with what had happened. And then all the stories from the people involved started to reach us-- it was so horrible! I think the country was in total astonishment! For many months we followed all the progress that the city was going through. And for the whole year we never went through one day without thinking about what happened to so many people and the lives that were changed forever! I worked at a small cafe' and it was before opening that day, my boss and I were the only ones in the building. We were listening to Howard Stern as we prepared the kitchen for the days customers and it seemed like another average day until Howard Stern started to report that a plane had flown into one of the buildings of the World Trade Center. Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that someone would DELIBERATELY fly a plane into a building. I even said to my manager "What kind of a moron flys a plane into a building?" At that point I thought that it had been an accident, like what happened in the 1940's when a plane flew into the side of the Empire State Building. But it turned out this was no accident. After hearing more and more reports coming in over the radio, in a span of a few minutes,my manager when into the dining area and turned on the t.v. in there for the customer's use. What we saw when we turned on the t.v. is something I will never forget. The events of Sept. 11 unfolded right before our eyes that day and from that moment on I couldn't turn away. That day at work, not one person came in. We watched t.v. all day long and I continued to do so when I got home that evening. I didn't stop watching until the news channels stopped reporting on it. I don't know if it became an obsession, but I couldn't turn the t.v. off. It became so that I felt that because I hadn't lost a friend or loved one in the tragedy, that I had to atone for it; that by watching t.v. I was in a way there in N.Y.C. and I could share the burden of mourning for those lost. For the months after 9/11 all I did was watch t.v. It's been 2 1/2 years since 9/11 and I've turned off the t.v.. I know that what happened to me during 9/11 wasn't healthy; mentally, but that's inconsequential, because nothing can compare to what was indured by those that DID lose loved ones and friends on Sept. 11, 2001. Tell us your story: September 8th 2001- Since my friend Stephanie's birthday was September 10th, we headed out to a local bar to catch a band and have some fun. We had a blast, Steph even got on stage to sing with The Interns! Sunday was my errand day, and my husband and I went out to buy Steph's birthday present. Monday dawned normal as any other day and I went off to work and then Steph and I went to Outback for our normal b-day celebration of Margaritas and Coconut shrimp. We talked about the guys who tried to pick us up on Saturday night, we complained about work, we even discussed the upcoming Sixers season - everything was normal. On September 11th I woke up at 6 a.m. and quietly cursed my husband for his ability to sleep in (his happy hour had run late into the night and he had no pressing issues on this beautiful September day). I headed off to work, did my morning reports and decided to pop into a meeting my boss was having at one of the stores. I was driving the back roads into the city, smoking my cigarette and listening to Howard Stern talk about Pamela Anderson, when they took a phone call from a Stern Show regular who said a plane hit the WTC. I remember thinking "those god damn terrorist are hell bent on destroying those buildings". I flipped to the local a.m. station and listened as the second plane hit. I felt sick. I phoned home and asked my husband for details. He gave me what little he could. I walked into the store and turned on the radio in the back office. I interrupted my boss and told him what happened. He broke the news to the attendees. I remember thinking "this is surreal, everything was normal an hour ago"! When I heard the news about the pentagon, I became visibly shaken, 2 of my brothers work for the government. One works on Pennsylvania Ave and the other across the road from the pentagon. I called home. My dad told me my one brother was fine, he stayed home, but no one had heard from my other brother. I called Steph at her store and she sounded so sad, which I am sure is how I sounded. She told me that they had the T.V. on in the break room and she just couldn't watch anymore. The rest of the afternoon was kind of a blur, I remember eating pizza and watching the news in the break room of that store, but I don't know what we talked about. My mom finally called to tell me that everyone in my family was safe. My boss decided we should call it an early day and we headed out. My husband, Matt, had tried to go to work, but decided to bag it since he was so hung over. I found him in bed, watching the news. I climbed in next to him and thought how sad this all was. We watched the news continuously for the next 4 days. I live by the Willow Grove Air Station and the sound of the planes taking off and landing, a sound I am normally used to, would jar me out of a sound sleep. Matt's cousin got married on September 14th. Matt was the best man. I went to the wedding and came home early, unable to be happy at such a sad time. Steph and I decided that since the president said for everyone to get back to normal, we would indeed go out dancing on Saturday night. We headed out and I thought to myself how much had changed in such a short time - how different I felt. How sad and angry I was! Along with the regular songs this band covered, the popped in a couple of patriotic songs like "God Bless America" and "God bless the USA". As Steph and I stood there singing with our arms slung around one another's shoulders, I thought "everything will be okay.... America will be okay". Almost a year later, I am still not okay. I don't think about September 11th every day. I can sleep through the night and the sounds of the air base are once again background noise. In every conversation I have had this year it seems that September 11th has come up - with my nieces and nephews, my cousins or even a business colleague. As we near the anniversary and I see that terrible footage being played again and again - I think the same thing every time "Oh my god" and tears well up in my eyes. I watched a CNN special the other night on the attacks and cried through the whole thing. Even reading the other entries here has made me cry. So maybe we won't be okay, at least not yet, but we're surviving - and that's a lot! Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I was in school in my 3rd class of the day; science. We were coloring earthquake maps and needless to say, we were havin fun. (Even though we were 12 and 13 years old) It was a nice day out side warm and the kind of day you cant wait to get home skip homework and play basketball outside after school. But in the middle of my class i heard the voice of mt proncipal on the P.A system, wich we never do cuz shes always too busy (wich isnt her fault) and has one of the secratarys do it. So the class quieted down right away. She said, ?ladies and gentlemen, the country has just experienced a terrible tragedy.? She stopped to let it sink in. I kind of zoned out after I heard that so I think she said something like, ?4 planes have been hijacked and flown into some of our country?s landmarks, DO NOT and I repeat, DO NOT go outside or watch T.V?. I freaked out. I asked my teacher what was going on, she told me she couldnt tell me beacuse she didnt know. In my 6th class one of my friends Kyle stood on his chair and asked us if we wanted to know what happened. We yelled "hell yeah!" I was scared, I needed to know. "was it in Rhode island? is my family all right? was it in New York? My whole family is there! what the hell!" Kyle told us that the World Trade center was hit and collapsed and the pentagon was hit but it didnt collapse. I knew that my uncle worked close to the twin towers. I disnt know how close so I cried. I almost passed out I was so scared. I went to the nurse told her I didnt feel good and I needed to call my mom. She called for me. Iwas liek is Uncle Douglas and Uncle Keith all right??? She told me that all my uncle saw was the second tower to collapse , collapse and all that was hurt was his mind....(hes scared for life u know)....My Aunt coulndt get a hold of her dad tho( we found him the next day).....My uncle keith was okay because he was taking my new-born cousin home the hospital that day. When I went home I begged my mom to take me to New York so I could volunteer to clean up the site. She told me I was too young. As he sits on in his cave and laugh. but little does he know that even though we might dissagree between ourselves we are still one big family and we shall rise up and take care of our business. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: My daughter was at Georgia Tech, as a freshman, and she was not having a very good time. Early that AM, before I turned on the TV, my husband and I were trying to find a counselor for her at GT. At 9AM (CST), my husband left for work at the Coastal Systems Station. I turned on the computer, and saw that a second plane had hit the Trade Towers. Thinking that this was the second plane, after one from several years ago that, had, in reality hit the Empire State Building, I just dismissed this news item. Then I went to my e-mail, and a prayer request had come in to pray for those at the Trade Center. I immediately turned on my TV to see the first tower fall. I knew immediately that it was Bin Laden, as I am a devout student of history. From then it was to the phone to check on folks that were to fly from Boston that day, my best friend's husband who had been at the Pentagon (as this attack was shown on TV), my daughter in distress in Atlanta, and my husband who had left for work. At least my son was safe at his high school. I reached all of these people and more, who were all safe and sound. Then I felt the terror and fear that most of us felt. What was going to happen next? My husband was sent home, as the Navy Base was closed for civilians. My daughter was isolated on campus, as all had closed. She could not fly home and as a Freshman, had no car. I felt helpless, but watched TV all day. On a happy note, our daughter came home October 4 (the anniversary of Hurricane Opal that devasted our home) to pursue a math teaching career at the University of West Florida! What a joy and much praise to the Lord that we, my husband, my son, my daughter, and myself were together as a family. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: Just as Alan Jacksons "Where Were You" song talks about, I was "working on a stage in L.A.". I had started work at 5:00 am Pacific Time. I was working on the NBC game show Weakest Link. The mean Brittish host Anne Robinson was supposed to be interviewed by I think it was the Today show live via sattelite. Needless to say, all of the TV's on stage were tuned to NBC. At about 5:45 am, the first pictures were shown of the first plane burning inside the tower. All eyes were fixated. No one wanted to look, but no one could turn away. No one could believe what we were witnessing. Obviously our interview was not going to happen that day. But something much more substantial was. Just when we thought we had seen it all, the second plane hit the second tower. I seriously thought I was going to be sick to my stomach. I could only immagine the number of lives that were changed by these events. I called my folk who were deep in sleep in a suburb of the San Fernando Valley. I was yelling "Wake up! Turn on the TV, were under attack!!!" My fater thought it was a joke! He laughed it off and hung up the phone. Only to have my cel. phone ring back a minute later with him in histericks. As rumors started flying as they so often do around Hollywood. There was talk that a plane from Las Vegas was hijacked and headed to Los Angeles. All sorts of crazy stories. Even while all of this was going on, the immages were still on TV, and everyone was watching intently. Then it happened. The towers fell. I had that "sick" feeling in my stomach again. I was surrounded by co-workers, but I felt so scared, afraid, and alone. It was REALLY weird. I know I didn't mention Flight 93, or the plane that hit the Pentagon, but those events did significantly add to the horror and sadness that I felt on September 11, 2001. As we watched, in horror, the video replay of the second plane hitting the Trade Center in NYC, we heard the roar of United Flight 93 pass over our home & crash approximately 1-2 miles away. I was returning to the childrens hospital of philadelphia to get my cast and stitches removed and fitted for a brace. I was sitting in on a table while my Dr was removing my cast when his assistant came in and told us to turn on the radio. My Dr. stopped and went over and turned it on. We litened to them as they said that one of the towers had just been hit by a plane. I began thinking oh my goodness! But how? How could the pilot not see the towers? (like it was an accident) ...little did I or any of us know it was not. We then went into another romm to remove my stitches this room had a TV so we put it on and watched it just as the 2 nd plane crashed into the 2nd tower. I began to crry like a baby. I have many relatives in NYC and I freaked out. I later found out over the days that followed that I knew one person that died. The pilot of the plane that hit the north tower use to be a neighbor of mine and moved a few yrs ago to a different neighborhood about 5 min away. TO michael Horrocks We miss you and love you! My freind Kevin had told us that some planes had hit the world trade center buildings. I thought he was just joking at first, but he kept insisting that he was telling the truth. We only watched the new in world history, because 9/11 will be huge part of history. I remember watching the news every day for the next week, and only seeing the replays of the towers getting hit and collapsing. I even watched in horror as people jumped from the upper floors. Out of this whole insident, fire fighters and policemen have been honored as heros. This event has even inspired me to help those less fortunate who have lost alot more than i have. It was during homeroom period when one of my friends that was late to class came in and turned the TV on. I really wasn't sure at that time what she was doing, and then i heard a voice say "a second plane just hit the other world trate center". I was very sad and afraid. My aunt works 2 blocks away from the the twin towers and she called to tell us what had happened. I remember seeing the look on my dad's face when my aunt was telling him my mom was crying, and I was just puzzled. I wondered how could someone do that? What if the people in the twin towers were my family or my friends, what if it were me? Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: It was my second visit to New York City, and my first visit alone. I was there for a NAMIC conference. My flight was supposed to leave Pittsburgh Airport around noon on Monday, September 10, 2001. However, my flight was delayed due to the weather conditions in New York. There was a storm that day. My husband, Kirk, had waited with me; but two hours later, my flight was still not ready to leave. I told him to go home. He wanted me to go home with him. My company was paying for the trip, I can't just not go. Two more hours later, there is a talk of the flight been cancelled. I called Kirk to let him know. He said that he had a bad feeling and that I shouldn't go that day. Maybe I should wait until the next day and take an early flight. However, there is an early event, that I would like to attend, plus, I was worried that if I didn't check into the hotel, I would loose my reservation. Finally, at around 6PM, on September 10, 2001. I finally got on an American Airline flight and left for New York JFK Airport. Upon arriving at the JFK, I had to take a bus to Port Authority Station and from there take a taxi to the Millennium Hotel Broadway. It was 10:30 PM when I got into my hotel room on the 33rd floor. Kirk was relief to hear from me and to know that I had made it. From my hotel room, I can see the big monitor at Time Square. It's been so long since I've been to a big city. It was truly an experience. After a good night sleep, I woke up and got ready for the Breakfast. I met my co-worker and the President of our Chapter at the Breakfast. After breakfast, we gather at the conference hall for the first speaker. I don't even remember the name of the speaker, just remember the topic was something about "connectivity" and how it will change the way we live. Half way through the speech, my co-worker came to me and whispered that a plane had just hit the World Trade Center. The first thing that came to my mind was an "accident". After the speaker finished his presentation, which was around 9 or 9:30 AM. The President of NAMIC came on stage and announced that a second plane had hit the second tower. "Terrorist Attack", that's all I remembered from that point on. We were allowed to leave and call our family to let them know that we were O.K. and that we were suppose to gather back at the hall in 30 minutes to discuss our next step. I turned on my cell phone and saw that I had messages. I knew my husband had tried to call. So, I tried to call him back immediately, but there was no signal. I walked outside, thinking I can get a better signal, all I saw was people standing out on the side walk, everyone with a cell phone, desperately trying to reach love ones. I went inside and got on the elevator to try the phone in my room. In the elevator, two ladies told me that they made an announcement on the news that the Millennium Hotel was hit. I realized that there were two Millennium Hotels, one near the World Trade Center and one near Broadway, which is where I was. I started to panic, because I knew Kirk was. After couple tries, I got through from my room. I could hear the sheer panic in his voice. He wanted me to leave, but I couldn't with everything shut down. He even wanted to come and get me, but there was no way he could get into NY City. I finally calmed him down and told him that we had to meet back at the Conference Hall and I would keep him updated every 1-2 hours. The final decision was to cancel the conference. I was the lucky one that I had hotel reservation, so I had a place to stay. There were some people who came in just for the day, who didn't have a place to stay for the night, and couldn't go home. I offered this couple to share my room, they accepted, but I never heard from them again. I believe they got on a ferry and went back to New Jersey that night. I hope they made it home alright. That night, New York City was the quietest place on earth. There were no cars, no bus, no street vendors, only few people walking around, like my co-worker and myself, who were trying to find a place to eat. (Imagine not able to find a place to eat at NY City!) While walking in the City, I looked to my right, between two tall buildings, there it was, the smoke from the World Trade Center. This was my first, only, and closest encounter to the tragic event. That night, in my hotel room, I looked down the same busy street from the night before. Only to find a deserted island, surrounded by silence and the light from the police patrol. What a difference one day made! The next day, after many tries, I was able to get a train ticket and leave New York. My husband waited for me at the train station with tears of joy and relief in his eyes. One week later, we found out that I was six weeks pregnant with our first child, who is now 5 months old. We are truly blessed! Tell us your story: Well I was in the 70th floor of tower one and I heard this loud crash and the tower trembled, so I looked out the window and I saw that there was a humongus fire above so I started to go down the stairs. I was very scared because iI could imagine the people above the level of fire. About 15 minutes later I'm out side because Iused the elevator a one point. So then I went to this guy and he told me that a plane crashed into the tower. And while he was talking, we heard a motor and then I screamed "look" everybody was screaming. So I got inside my car and started to drive off. When Iwas reaching the bridge, I saw the south tower collapse and I just kept on driving,but with trembling hands. When I got into the toll of the bridge, the north tower collapsed. When I got home I watched the news to get more information on what happened and I could not believe what I and other people passed through. Tell us your story: I will never be able to forget the horror I saw when I rounded the corner of Metropolitan Ave. People were staring across the river and my mouth dropped as I saw the towers burning. My hands flew to my face and I called on God. I remember saying to no one in particular "this day will live in infamy like Pearl Harbor" I watched for awhile; people told me it was a terrorist attack. I then went home and put the TV on, only Ch. 2 was broadcasting. I realized that I had to take photographs of this horrendous sight. I took various pictures at different stages crying all the time. After fielding phone calls about my brother who works near the WTC, but was not at work that day, I remembered a third cousin works in the WTC. This cousin was there in 1993 when the terrorists bombed the WTC and he was carried out because he is a parapledgic. To make a long story short, he was carried out, in a special chair he got after 1993 by 9 co-workers who would not leave him there. This was written up in the NJ Star Ledger Oct. 16, 2001. A picture of him being carried is also on photographer Bill Biggerts web site of pictures he took as the towers were coming down. He was killed but pictures were able to be printed from one of his digital cameras. To this day I cannot pass Metropolitan Ave. without looking towards the city and wishing I could wake up from the nightmare. I try to picture the WTC still there. The 3000 souls and those beautiful buildings are lost but never will be forgotten. They live in our hearts and minds forever. Tell us your story: First of all, I'd like to give my condolences to all of those people who lost loved ones and may God have all of the victims in peace. For all of those who helped and volunteered in the aftermath, may God bless you all. You are all true heroes. I remember so vividly where I was and how I felt on that terrible day. I think everybody has such a clear image of that day that it goes beyond saying, it will take a lifetime to forget. I was still in bed when I got a call from my boyfriend whom at the time lived in Chicago. He asked me to turn on the television and take a look at what was happening. When I turned on the television set, and in every single channel there it was! A plane had just crashed into one of the towers. They said it was an accident, then they moved to show the Pentagon. It can't be an accident. A few minutes later comes the second plane. I was so in disbelieve. I started crying, I couldn't believe what was going on. I had chills all through my body. I called my boss and told him that I'd be taking the day off. The second plane crashing into the tower was the worst for me. Seeing how people out of desperation and anguish jumped out of the windows who knows how high up was just terrifying. I had never felt so hopeless as I felt that day. Nothing will ever be the same. That day my whole family stayed home. We didn't do anything other than watch the news. Watch over, and over and over, the planes crashing into the towers. I remember back and although it was exactly one year ago, I can remember very clearly everything about that day. I have a friend who works at the Los Angeles Airport with United Airlines and the first thing I did after I realized that that was one of the affected airlines was call her. Claudia was okay. She wasn't working that day. I thank God for that and pray for those who were there and for those passengers who died on that day. Now, a year later we are still affected by that day. I still get those chills all over my body when I talk about that day. I still think about all of those people who died and those whose lives were affected. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I was in my car driving to school. I had just turned into the parking lot. I was listening to the radio and I heard the news story that a plane flew into the World Trade Center but no other information was available at that time. A few minutes later my husband called me to find out if I heard about the incident yet. By that time I was walking to class. Neither of us knew any details but we both assumed it was a small plane that flew off course. Never in our wildest dreams could we have imagined what would unfold that day. We talked to each other again after class, which was an hour and a half later. By that time he had more information and the other students were starting to find out as well. Classes were being canceled and the halls became complete confusion with people trying to get home to check on their family members. People were warned to stay off of their cell phones so that the lines would be open for emergency personnel access. The drive home seemed like it was taking forever. Like me, the people in the cars around me were listening to the news while they drove home. I looked into the cars around me while waiting at a light and was able to see the anguish in the faces of others. This was a time that none of us would ever forget as we despirately tried to get home, safely. The main thing that I thought about during that ride was all of the children who lost their parent(s) that day and I still think about it today. It will always bring tears to my eyes.
