Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I first would like to extend my prayers to the families that lost loved ones on this tragic day. We had waited for so long to take our three children to Disney. On Tuesday September 11 we were up bright and early. We decided it was the day we were going to go to Epcot. It was just before lunch time and we had enter into one of the rides. As everyone who has been to Disney knows that all rides end in a gift shop. We got to our turn for the ride, entered the doors and the next thing we knew we were in the gift shop. We were with a couple that lived in England. They told us that they had been on this ride the day before and this is not how it works. When we exited the gift shop there was an employee of Disney that told us that they were closing the park. We asked if it was just Epcot or all of the parks. We were told that the only thing that would remain open were the resorts. When we asked what was going on all we were told is that it was a national emergency. You can imagine what it was like getting all of those people out of the park. When we got to the car and turned on the radio we couldn't believe what we were hearing. We returned to our cabin and were glued to the TV. When we heard that a plane had gone down in rural PA we were very concerned. At that time we started calling home to check on everyone. We only live about 50 miles from that site. Even our children were very somber. They had everything open at the resorts such as pools and game rooms. You saw nobody in those areas when you did go to get something to eat. Everyone was gathered around TV's to get the most updated information. After we found out that Disney had been on their list of places to attack it really made you wonder if they hadn't of grounded all the planes if there would have been more freedom loving people would have lost their lives. The changes the next day in security we needed but it really showed you how we lost some of our freedom. We then had to fly home on Saturday. We didn't even know until late Friday evening if we were even going to get to go home. Again the security increase and the somber feeling at the airport was easliy seen. I was never so relieved to land in Pittsburgh as I was that night. Tell us your story: Im a production worker,while at work that morning someone from the office came running out on to the production floor yelling about an airplane that had accidentally hit one of the Twin Towers.Everyone stopped working and filed into the confrence room where there was a tv set we allwere watching when the 2nd plane hit the other tower.When we heard that the pentigon was also attacked I called my wife to see if she heard.She was crying and told me that her nephew was working there at the pentigon he's with Naval Intelligence. My heart sank even lower, and as we saw the images of distruction I felt sick as if the wholr world was coming to an end.As we continued to watch we heard of yet another plane apparently high jacked had crashed in Pa.God I thought whats happening how can this be?Then I began to worry for our nephew Charlie M.(I'll leave out his last name for security purposes)was he alive and well.It turned out he was not working that day thank God.It still haunts my family that terrible day even though none of us were actually harmed the pain of others is felt in our hearts. I remember I was in my 6th period study hall, when someone said "Hey Tea someone smashed a plane into the twin towers." I thought they were lying at first. I didn't find out everything untill 8th period. That's when they actually let us watch it on T.V.. Then I was really in shock because I heard about the other two attacks. I think it shouldn't be a Holiday because then it would be like celebrating a tragedy. Besides most people would do the same thing they do all year. Tell us your story: I was between jobs, when a friend asked me to substitute teach the 6th grade class in the school where he was principal.As I was driving to school, I heard the news that the first plane crashed into the first tower. I went into the school building, and was unaware of the events unfolding. Shortly after 10AM, the principal came in and told me we were going to have a chapel service at 2pm to pray for the victims of the terrorist attacks. I was confused, and asked what had happened. At that point I was told of all the events that had been unfolding. When my 6th graders returned from English, they had seen the events on television. One student's father worked in the Sears Tower, and he was concerned that his dad was in danger. We went out for recess..and the sky was empty. No planes were flying around O'hare airport. Only the birds could be heard. All the teachers knew at that moment that our lives had changed forever. Tell us your story: On the morning of September 11,2001, I was getting ready to take my 10 month old son to the doctor when I turned on the T.V, and was horrified at what I seen. At first I didn't know what to think, and when I seen the second plane crash into the other tower I remember thinking to myself how could this happen. I know that I was miles and miles away from the World Trade Centers, but it made me wanted to call all of my family just to let them know that I loved them. As I was going through town you could see that the whole town was griveing, and shocked with horror in their eyes for what just happened. When I got out of the doctors office I went by to see my husbun at work, and I remeber hugging him and my son and not wanting to let go. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: It was about 9:30 a.m. and Caroline and I were still asleep. The phone rang, Caroline answered it, and then said "Oh my god!" I sat up as she turned on the tv. The pictures were incomprehensible. Both planes had already hit the WTC Buildings. The Pentagon had been hit too, but there was no mention. As we sat silently in our room, pieces began coming together. Finally, the phrase "America Under Attack" was used on the news channels. That might have been the point when everything seemed too real instead of incomprehensible. We attend school 20 miles from Washington, D.C., and there were reports that there were still missing planes. That's when I started making phone calls. I first called my dad who traveled often. He was safe, but his plane had been re-routed from Reagan National Airport to Greensboro, N.C. I called family all over the country to let them know I was OK. I didn't go to any classes that day, or the next. Instead, i camped out at a friend's house and watched the news for 48 hours straight with people that mean a lot to me. It's sad, but it usually takes something with an unthinkable magnitude to make you think about what's important. The outpouring in the D.C. area, and the whole country, was phenominal. I came to school and it felt like a normal day until I walked into my Global Studies class 3rd period. My teacher Mrs. Capen had the television on but I paid little attention to it because I didn't think that anything was going on. I went and sat down and started to watch it and I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Both of the World Trade Centers were going up in flames and smoke. At 8:45 a.m. American Airlines flight # 11 that was coming from Boston Massachusetts crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Centers and then it exploded on impact with the tower. Then at 9:03 a.m., United Airlines flight # 175 that was coming from Boston, Massachusetts crashed into the south tower of the World Trade Centers and that plane also exploded on contact with the tower. Now both of the towers are on fire and there are people running all over. It was a very tragic moment for many Americans. At 9:43 a.m. American Airlines flight # 77 crashed into the Pentagon, and took out the one side of it. After all of these terrorist attacks occurred there were people rushing all over and most all building were being evacuated and businesses were shutting down and New York City was mostly shut down. It was a very big deal that all of the big places and big buildings were evacuating. All of these places were doing this because of more possible terrorist attacks. Immediately I started to hope that my entire family and my entire friends were okay and that nothing bad happened to them. Flight # 77 had 58 passengers aboard and 6 crewmembers that were also on the plane. I didn't know how to act when this all started because it was so sad, and I couldn't believe that four planes were hijacked. At 9:45 a.m. the White House was evacuated. I think that it was a good idea that they did that, just in case of terrorist attacks on the White House. While the White House was being evacuated President George Bush was doing a speech in Sarasota, Florida about the terrorist attacks in New York City. At 10:28 a.m. the north tower of the World Trade Centers collapse from the top to the bottom. When the tower collapsed there was clouds of dust and debris that took over the streets of New York City. The total amount of people that were killed in both of the towers collapsing was 2,823. That is very sad and devastating to know that that many people died form this tragedy. At 12:15 p.m. Canada and Mexico shut down their borders with the United States. They did this so no one could come into the U.S. and they also did it so no one could leave the United States. A lot of people didn't know what to do or what to think, because they didn't know who planned this attack or why they did it. All they knew what that the World Trade Centers and the Pentagon were attacked by terrorists. Everything was getting shut down and canceled. Everything from baseball games, football games, local bingo games, and many other community things were canceled. Some of the things that were getting shut down were airports, malls, and most stores. Rudolph Giuliani made the statement that all New Yorkers should stay home on the day after the attacks happened. In addition to both of the towers of the World Trade Center collapsing, the portion of the Pentagon that was hit, collapsed also. September 11th was one of the most devastating days that has happened since the bombing of Pearl Harbor. September 11th will be remembered forever. A tragedy like September 11th should never be forgotten because when something like this happens it should be marked in history. Late that night after the terrorist attacks the U.S. found out that it was Osama Bin Laden that planned out all of these attacks. After the U.S. found out we started to go over there and bomb Afghanistan to try and find Bin Laden. So far that we know of we haven't found Bin Laden yet. Tell us your story: This is meant as an addition to my earlier story, submitted yesterday, as I now realize that I neglected to include one of the most touching experiences I had volunterring down at Ground Zero. For days and nights, I worked serving meals to the uniformed services men and women, who worked around the clock down at Ground Zero. In the beginning, they would walk into the restaurant where I was volunteering, covered in debris and dust, not wanting to make conversation, wanting to sit alone and try to grasp the magnitude of what they were witnessing day in day out. All I could do was serve them some food, offer them coffee, tea, a cold drink to go, clean up their place, and move on to clean up for the next shift. At times, there were police officers,NPYD detectives, FEMA workers, traffic cops lined up in a steady stream out the door and onto Canal Street. The amazing thing for me was how appreciative they were that we were there to help THEM. These people were so selfless, so giving, so into helping out down at this tragic site. They insisted on tipping me.....which I refused, time and again. I repeatedly told them this was the least I could do for them....that they spent their days and nights trying to help people just like myself...not just on 9-011, but every day......they were incredulous. One big, burly police officer was adament that I take his LARGE tip (the tip was almost as huge as the man himself!). I told him to please keep his money, though the gesture was greatly appreciated, and take his wife and/or girlfriend out one night. He persisted, and I resisted. Finally, he placed his flashlight, which he used to try and help find victims in the rubble, into my hand and said that he insisted that I take this instead.....and that I should keep it with me so that at least he knew that if I was ever in a building that lost power or had a tragic event such as that at the WTC, that at least he would know I could have a chance to find my way out of that building. A touching moment that will never leave me...the flashlight remains front and center on my bedroom bureau, right next to a framed picture given to me by a police sargent I also met volunteering down at Ground Zero.....it had been computer generated by the NYPD for their own people....and the NYFD and port authority police officers.....a skyline of lower manhattan at night...with the two towers standing; on one, a flag draped the height of one tower; the other, covered with NYPD, NHFD, NYPA logos running down its height; underneath, "Remember the Heroes," and the date; at the bottom, a police officer and a fire department officer, in full uniform, and in silhouette. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: My husband and I were home the morning of Sept.11th, when the towers were hit. My husband came to tell me, right after it was broadcast on TV. We were getting ready to go to the cafe and meet with my husband's former classmates, for breakfast, we always meet on Tuesday mornings. It all seemed unreal and difficult to imagine that such a horrific attack had actually happened. We met with our friends, and we all were in shock, we were at the cafe, when a young girl came and told us that the Pentagon had been hit, and that a plane had crashed in a field. We hoped that we would not be hearing of any more deaths. It was a terrible day for Americans, for we were all affected, we just prayed that things would get better for everone in the days ahead. I beleive that there were angels there that day, and that they haven't gone away. I am from Oklahoma, and I had that same sense of peace later after the Ok. bombing, just as I had after the 911 Attacks, there has always been some heavenly intervention, during such tragedy as bad as it gets. I know that we are not alone, and it gives me comfort to think that the people there that day knew it too. A lady was talking to the driver about the first tower being hit. It was just before 9 am. When I got to the office where I work, the administrative assistants had a radio on, so we could all hear what was going on. Nobody really knew what was happening at that point. The second plane hit the WTC, and then the Pentagon was hit. The radio broadcast was in chaos, reporters were just shouting out what they were seeing. There were rumors that a bomb had gone off in front of the State Department. Then the plane crashed in Pennsylvania. I just couldn't believe how many planes had been hijacked. They closed the university at 11 am, and everybody packed on to the buses going to our cars. A guy in the back of the bus was talking about the new draft rules, saying that if we went to war, noone would be exempt from the draft this time. I was scared for my husband and my brother at that point. I went home and my husband and I sat glued to CNN and MSNBC. We watched the towers collapsing, again and again. I had this sick feeling in my gut, like lead weighing on my stomach. Knowing how many people were in those towers when they came down and then watching the collapse--it just made me ill. All those people...The response to the tradegy from Americans and our allies was tremendous, and planted some hope. I have been proud of us ever since. I was in my second period English class and we heard the news on in another classroom down the hall. My teacher aloud us to turn on the television. Our class just watched in awe as we kept seeing the World Trade Center fall to the ground. At this time all I could think about was my uncle who worked in the World Trade Center for an investment company. At this time I could only think about praying for God to watch over my uncle and keep him safe along with all others evolved. The next thing that I thought about was my father who had left earlier that morning on a business trip. I knew he was flying but I didn?t know where exactly. I also thought about my mother, sisters, and nephew who were in New York a few days earlier visiting family who were at the time on their way home. I just walked through the halls at school wondering if everyone was okay and worrying about being alone when I came home. When I got home I called my dad on his cell phone and asked if he, my uncle, and my mom and sisters were safe. He assured me telling me that they were and everything would be all right. A few hours after I got home from school after talking to my father my mom called me from dropping off one of my sisters on the way home and telling me for some reason while they were driving home in Pennsylvania they turned on the radio. Only a few miles from the Pennsylvania plane crash they heard about what was going on. I made it clear that I was all right alone and that I would be waiting up for them. It was around six o-clock when I was on the phone with one of my best friends and we were comforting each other. We both heard a loud boom, which made me, feel like I was having a nervous break down. All I could think about were the great men and women in The World Trade Center had no idea when they were going to die-and this could happen to anyone including me. My friends mother came and picked me up and too me to their house. We turned on the television which was saying that the Veterans Memorial had been bombed. Well, later on we found out that it was just a plane at the base breaking the sound barrier. Later that night my mom came and picked me up as we cried and prayed together. The next day my mother talked to my aunt. She said my uncle was all right he was on the thirty-second floor of the second tower and had time to save himself by running to a friends apartment three blocks away. I also have family who lives across the water from the World Trade Center who could see the cloud of smoke for days. Both families had many friends who died. I am one of the more fortunate victims of September eleventh. I am thankful that God watched over me the whole time. My dad could have been working in the World Trade Center like he does on occasional business trips. What I have found the most breath taking is just how suck a huge building falls to the ground so fast. It?s not easy to watch the World Trade Center fall to the ground, but I will pay my honors and gratitude to all those who were killed, injured, or touched by this terrible tragedy. I think that this makes us realize that we need to get together and just be thankful to have the people we share our lives with today because we never know when they could be gone-in a flash. While in my Spanish 2 class presenting our project, another teacher ran into our classroom and told our teacher to turn on the televison. We then saw one of the WTC was hit and at first I thought it was a big joke, so I started laughing.I turn back to the television and realized that we were on some kind of news channel so I kind of realized this was not a joke. Many students in my class was crying when they saw what had happen, As I was watching the T.V with horror, I was thinking that nothing worst can happen and as I was saying that we found out that the pentagon was hit too. We quickly turned on the news and couldn't believe what we saw. School was left out early because of this. I immediatly went to my firehouse and jioned the group that had already formed. That night I had a meeting at the firehouse and the mayor of New York sent my company a letter asking for manpower. I quikly signed my name up to go. We talked about the event that occured that morning, and we all shared our thoughts on the whole thing. I guess it didn't really hit me until the next morning. I got up for school and went downstairs to watch the news. Every news channel was focusing on the towers. That was when I actuall realized what the hell actually happened. I tried to like nothing has happened, but every class I went to that day had it on the news. I couldn't stop thinking about the heros that died that day. And the 343 fellow firefighters that weren't going home to their families. Our firehouse started to have classes on terrism, and hazmat. Then when they started to come out with the songs in memory of Sept 11th, It made me think even more. The worst image that is still stuck in my head til thins day, is seeing the men and women jumping from the 80th floor. That had to be a difficult decision to make, but I guess I would have done the same thing. I read a book not to long ago called "Last Man Down". It was about one of the fire companies that were in the towers when they fell. AND SURVIVED!!!I still have the memories, and I will always be their for my country. I arrived at work on the Hardin-Simmons campus in the maintenance department when I was informed of an airplane running into the World Trade Center in New York City. So I went to find a television to find out more information on what happened. I then heard of the second plane crashing into the second tower, the third crashing into the Pentagon, and the fourth going down near Pittsburgh before it could do any damage. When I first heard of the attacks, I was shocked just like the rest of the nation. I could not understand how four American airplanes could be hijacked in one day, especially with the security that we have in our airports today. However, any nation can be attacked when they do not expect it. The greatest and most powerful nations, like the United States of America, can be vulnerable at times. For some reason, we were vulnerable on September 11, 2001. The tragic event on September 11 is now associated with the sudden bombings of the United States at Pearl Harbor on December 7,1951. However, many say that this is worse. For one reason, almost all of the fatalities were United States soldiers, unlike the World Trade Center event. Thousands of innocent people died because some terrorist decided to attack America where it would hurt us the most. And they did. The United States will not be the same again. Right now we have people living in fear. They fear that they could be next to be hit by a terrorist attack. Security all over the nation will be increased and it will take a much longer time entering certain places such as airports, sporting events, or any other heavily crowded area. Even at those events people will be fearful of what may happen. So they won?t be able to enjoy the event as they have been in the past because of all of the security around them. This will definitely change our lives as American citizens in almost every aspect. At the same time, however, this event has made and will continue to make America a very stronger United States. All United States citizens have joined together in many ways. There have been tremendous amounts of people giving blood at their local blood donor centers, trying to help in any way possible. Others have offered their services in New York and Washington D. C. to the firefighters and rescue workers. Other United States citizens have donated large amounts of money in order to aid in the rescue process. The real heroes in this whole situation are the firefighters, policemen, paramedics, and other rescue workers who assisted. These people went above and beyond the call of duty for weeks trying to clear out the wreckage. They continuously tried to pull bodies, hopefully alive, out of the rubble. However, some true heroes that need to be recognized as well are the passengers on the plane that went down just outside of Pittsburgh. Speculations have been made as to where the plane was headed for but no one knows for sure. The courageous passengers of that airplane should be commended for whatever they did aboard that plane to prevent yet another plane crashing and killing more Americans. They crew aboard this airplane saved an undetermined amount of lives while risking their lives. These passengers knew that they would more than likely not survive the flight. Many of them did not hesitate to act upon the terrorists. You could consider them kamikazes. They sacrificed their own lives for the good of our country and to save some people that they didn?t even know. I consider that very noble. As for the rest of the world, I believe that they will be affected somewhat by these terrorist acts. The United States and all Allies will be more unified. All members of NATO have agreed to back the United States 100 percent. I believe that this will form an even greater bond of unity among those nations, just as it has done with the citizens of the U. S. However, affairs with nations such as Afghanistan will be affected directly, obviously. Although we will try to keep the war away from the citizens and the Afghanistan government and towards the Taliban, I believe the relationship between the countries will experience a drastic decline. Some citizens of Afghanistan will be affected by the U.S. retaliation, but hopefully very few will be directly experience any changes. I have a cousin who was working near the Empire State Building when the attacks occurred. She was terrified by the situation. Nothing happened to her physically because she was so far from the World Trade Center. However, she did have to walk home fifty blocks because the subways were shut down, and all taxis were being used to escort casualties to hospitals. She got on the first plane she could and flew back to Louisiana were her parents live. She will not go back to New York City. She has asked to be transferred to a branch of her business in Dallas. If she can not get the transfer, she is going to quit and find another job. She does not want to go back to New York to live in fear. There were some strange coincidences that were revealed by different people. A very odd coincidence was the date of the attack, September 11. September being the ninth month of the year, we would abbreviate that date as 9-11, a telephone number we use for emergencies. Coincidence or not, it is strange. There have also been millions of e-mails flying around the world about the bombings; some true, some suspect. The bottom line is that we as Americans must join together as the United States and trust our government officials to do what they know is right. They are spending countless hours planning what to do next. We must pray for our country, our leaders, our allies, and our enemy. Let God deal with our persecutor. Do not let us judge them. We must remember our main goal is peace. Tell us your story: well i was in bed just waking up as my mother woke me up. she said that a plane had crashed into one of the world trade center towers. i ran down stairs to see what had happened the image is forever burned in my memory the billowing black smoke coming out of all sides of the building. it was horific then moments after i saw the next plane hit. at this time we new that this was more then just some freek accident. I had been thinking about joining the army for many years after this attack on our ground and on out nation i felt more and more of a calling to join up. two days after 9/11 i went to the local recruiters stationg and signed up. i left about one month later for atlanta gorgia. from there i went to columbut and fort benning. when i arrived the D.S told us that training had intensafide do to the attack on America. as we started our training i soon started falling out of runs do to pain in my knee. my D.S told me to go to the hospital and i was told after getting many x-rays that i would have to go home and be medicaly disscharged from the ARMY. It was about 10 minutes after the inital plane struck the first tower. I received a call from one of our customers, he asked me if I was seeing this. I had no idea what he was speaking of, he proceeded to tell me. My heart just dropped as I finished up the service request. I then went on CNN.com and watched the coverage. The feelings that ran through me varied from confused, angry to sad. I had no idea where this would stop. My father was in DC that day on capital hill. I was worried for his safety. He eventually called me and let me know he was safe. He asked that I call my mother in Philadelphia and tell her not to make the trip back to DC as planned that day. My family was all safe, including my new born that was home with the beautiful love of my life. This was a very sad day for me personally, as well as our great land. I can't imagine a life that would breed such anger to perform a deed like this. The most disturbing memory I have of that day was the footage that I saw on the television. People jumping from 100 plus stories, others hanging onto the building, I cried that day. I will never understand the hate that some people seal inside of them. Thanks for letting me share.
