Tell us your story: I was leaving work to teach 4 & 5 year-olds handwashing at a local day care when our secretary told us one of the trade centers had been hit by an air plane. Thinking it was a weird accident I went on to teach my class. When I left the child care I heard on the radio that there were other airplanes no accounted for. I started thinking what is going on. When I got back to work someone had turned on the TV from the classroom and saw the second airplane hit the second tower. I was in shock. It was surreal. For the rest of the morning all the employees were watching the TV. Trying to put things together. What is giong on here. My best friend works for the FBI at Quantico Bay and my boyfriend was living in Peennsylvania. I couldn't help but think how they were doing becasue all phone lines were jammed. That night and for days afterward I couldn't help but cry when I heard a song or heard about the last moments of the people involved on those 4 planes and in those buildings. To think I always felt safe in the United States. We have been at war, but never on our mainland. It made me feel how velnerable we were and how precious life is. I went to New York, never having been before, in January. Standing at ground zero and to still see the smoke and soot and devestation brought a new light to my life. I stood there reading memorials, thinking about the lost loved ones, the ones never to be identified and remnances of their lives that were recovered. I signed a memorial outside an American Red Cross volunteer station and hugged tighter onto my boyfriend and cried as we saw similar emotions on the faces of everyone else. It was now a movie. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: My fellow recruits and I were sitting in class at Schoolcraft Police Academy in Garden City Michigan. The person in charge of the academy walked in and said a plane hit a tower in N.Y. We went down to the lunch room and witnesses the second plane going into the other tower. An instructor looked at us and said "People, now the U.S.A. is at war". For lunch, some of the recruits went an extra run just to vent. We did not make it a full day of training and were sent home to be with our families. My family and I sat infront of the T.V. that night, not saying much, but just wondered, what was the total number of people who did die for no reason but that of terrorism. I now work as a police officer in Monroe County in Michigan, protecting lives and wish I could have done more on 9/11/2001. God bless fellow police officers, fire-fighters, those who lost their lives. May peace come to those who lost loved ones. God Bless the United States. I saw on televison that a plane hit the World Trade Center. I thought it was a accident. When I got to work I saw it was no accident. I thought it was the end of the world when they hit the Pentagon. Tell us your story: MY NAME IS MARION KLUMPP AND ON THE MORNING OF SEPTEMBER 11, 2002- I WAS A PRIVATE SITTER JUST GETTING TO WORK AT 8:00 AM (CENTRAL TIME). THE OLD COUPLE I SAT FOR HAD THEIR TV ON AND I HAPPEN TO GLANCE AT THE PICTURE AND I STOPPED IN SHOCK. THE IMAGE OF THE TOWER ON FIRE FROM A COLLISION WITH AN AIRPLANE WAS PRETTY HARD TO COMPREHEND. I MEAN- HOW COULD THE PLANE NOT SEE THE TOWER TO BEGIN WITH AND WHY WOULD IT HAVE BEEN FLYING SO LOW. WELL THE ANSWER TO THOSE QUESTIONS SOON BECAME APPARENT WHEN ON NATIONAL TELEVISION WE WITNESSED THE PLANE FLYING DIRECTLY INTO THE SECOND TOWER AFTER PURPOSELY AIMING FOR IT. THAT WAS THE MOMENT,I BELIEVE, THAT THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA REALIZED IT WAS UNDER ATTACK FROM AN UNKNOWN SOURCE AND WE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT ELSE WAS TO BE HIT. UNFORTUNATELY, WE SOON FOUND OUT MORE AND IT WASN'T GETTING ANY BETTER. THE ATTACK ON THE PENTAGON WAS A SHOCK AND I KNEW DEEP IN MY HEART THAT WHOEVER WAS DOING THIS HAD PLANNED THIS FOR A VERY LONG TIME. THE LOSS OF LIFE WITH THE TOWERS AND THE PENTAGON WOULD BE STAGGERING, NOT TO MENTION THE LOSS OF LIFE ON THE PLANES, AND WE HAD NO IDEA IF THEY WERE FINISHED YET. I WATCHED IN SHOCK WHEN THE SECOND TOWER FELL AND I KNEW THAT THE PEOPLE THAT WERE ABOVE THE IMPACT ZONE HAD NOT GOTTEN OUT. I ALSO KNEW THAT THE PEOPLE ABOVE THE IMPACT ZONE IN THE FIRST TOWER WERE NOT GETTING OUT EITHER, WHICH OF COURSE WAS EVIDENT WHEN THEY STARTED JUMPING OUT THE WINDOWS. IT WAS AMAZING TO SEE THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE WHO CAME TOGETHER TRYING TO HELP OUT. THE POLICE AND FIREMAN OF NEW YORK ARE AMAZINGLY BRAVE PEOPLE AND THEY SHOULD BE REMEMBERED FOR THEIR SELFLESSNESS. THE PLANE IN PENNSYLVANIA WAS ANOTHER AMAZEMENT. FOR PEOPLE TO GIVE THEIR LIVES SO THAT THE TERRORISTS EVIL PLANS COULD BE STOPPED WAS NOTHING SHORY OF A BLESSING FROM GOD FOR OUR COUNTRY. Tell us your story: I'm a flight attendant for a regional airline (ie smaller 30 passenger and 50 passenger planes) and that morning I woke up in Newark and began my day around 5 or 5:15 at Newark Airport. It was the 3rd day of a trip I picked up as a favor to a friend. I had only been a flight attendant just over five months at that point. My day was supposed to be I go from Newark to Baltimore/Washington then back to Newark, then directly home to Richmond, VA from Newark by about 11am. Obviously, it didn't happen that way. I was scheduled to land in Newark about 5 minutes after 9 am that morning. We were in New York's airspace when the first plane hit and they starting turning flights away from all New York city area airports. Around 8:50 where I should have been getting bells to let me know we were landing, I got a call from the cockpit instead. They told me that the World Trade Center was on fire and it being a Port Authority building for New York City, we were going to have to divert somewhere else because they just closed Newark Airport. I was on a 30 passenger propeller plane that morning and only had 12 people on board. I explained to them what had just been explained to me and told them I would let them know when we found out exactly where we were going. As proof that what I was saying was true, I had them look out the window on the left side where you could clearly see the trail of smoke escaping the top of the North Tower. I sat in a window seat just in front of my jumpseat so I could see exactly what was going on too. I told the person that was just across the aisle from where I sat to pay attention, this had to be breaking news we were seeing live. How little did I know what a small statement that was. We circled that area mostly over New Jersey but it being such a clear morning we could see Manhattan easily. We could still see it clearly 15 minutes later when the South Tower was hit and a huge explosion came, from my sightline, from the back of the building that was already on fire. I didn't see the plane hit, but I saw the explosion it caused. We turned south at that last turn to land eventually in Atlantic City where we had to stay until 3 days later when we repositioned our plane back up to Newark. As I saw we weren't landing in Philadelphia as I was told we were and I told the passengers we were, I called the cockpit to find out where we were going. They were very busy staying in contact with ATC but took a minute to let me know that the WTC had been bombed, both buildings and we were going to Atlantic City instead. Until we landed there, we didn't hear what actually happened. That planes were being used to attack our country. I don't know how I would have reacted had I known that, regardless of the small size of the plane I was on. Especially since at first, they thought it was a small plane. All I could think at that point was "Was it one of ours?" "Is everyone I know and work with safe?" "Why is this happening?" Operations let us call anyone we needed to let them know we were safe. I called my mom at work, my dad at home, my grandmother, and by the time I called my grandmother, the Pentagon had been attacked. She didn't even have the news on yet, so that was her first indication that anything was going on that morning. Up to this point, all of my news had come through other people and radio. They didn't have a TV in operations so they took us over to a hangar that had a living room type setting and a big screen TV for us to watch all of this play out. It was worse seeing it up close than I could have imagined. That's when the South Tower fell. Shortly after that, an American Airlines crew on a widebody plane had a been diverted there as well. Some of the other flight attendant were telling me Atlantic City didn't want to put their plane near the terminal because they were enroute to Boston from Miami and were Boston based. By now flight numbers were being announced on TV and we knew exactly which flights were involved. Who's coworkers and friends were now dead due to the terrorists. Of course, by now, we knew it was terrorism. I watched with a broken heart as the American crew all started realizing they had a roommate that was on one of the planes, or a friend, or had work the same flight recently. Even more personal than seeing the WTC damaged from the planes was seeing the reactions of those who knew people on the planes. All of the shock and horror. A few days later, we took our plane back to Newark. There were thankfully 20 other people in Newark that I worked with and knew and since New York had been shut down again, we decided to go into Hoboken for a few drinks and destress some. We knew none of us would be working early the next morning. The street we parked on was almost right on the water and straight across from lower Manhattan. There was still that gaping pit of smoke wafting over us even as we stood in New Jersey. I can't forget that awful stench of death in the smoke. As so many say "Never forget," well, I can't and I won't. I tell this story often and make sure others know the terror I felt, as many others did that day. Tell us your story: At approximately 9:00 AM on September 11, 2001, I received a phone call from my niece Laura telling me what was happening at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. My husband and I were traveling on the Atlantic City Expressway on our way to Atlantic City Medical Center for a Non-Stress test. I was 9 months pregnant with our son Blake. My due date was September 12, 2001. Later that day I had an appointment with my doctor. At my last visit she had told me if our son was not born by September 11, she was going to put me in the hospital and induce my labor. This was my seventh pregnancy over a fourteen year period, but my first child. It had been a very rough, high risk prenancy and she did not want me to go beyond my due date. After my examination, she called Shore Memorial Hospital to make arrangements for me to be admitted the next morning at 7:00 AM. Upon calling the hospital she was informed that I could not be admitted because all beds had to be kept open incase they were needed for people injured in New York. I was afraid something would happen to my unborn son. Having had six miscarriages I really didn't believe I would have a child until he was born alive and well. Luckily, first thing in the morning on September 12, I received a phone call telling me to get right to the hospital. At 4:22 AM on September 13, my son Blake was born alive and well. When we came back to our apartment building, our doorman told us that an airplane hit the World Trade Center. I remember vividly thinking what idiot hit the tower? When we went up to our apartment, we learned that it was a commercial jet when I was thinking it was a private plane flown by an inexperienced pilot. Then when I witnessed the second jet hitting the other tower, I said wow, who got that on film? I thought it was a replay of the first jet hitting. It was too hard to fathom that a second jet was allowed to be near the towers after the first one hit! That day, I had plans to go to my husband's office to introduce our 3 month-old daughter to everyone. His office is in midtown and he called to tell me not to come. I told him to come home & he said the government has said to stay where you are. I told him I don't care what the government says come home to your family! He did & that afternoon we went to Central Park because our 2 year-old needed to get out and play. It was surreal. Almost no one on the streets or in the park. Then one of the airforce jets went overhead. We all bent down & looked up. It was terrifying thinking someone else was coming again with a jet. That evening, we learned that the little boy nextdoor's father was missing. Also that a neighborhood friend of my husband was missing. Both worked for Cantor Fitzgerald. I know EXACTLY what I was doing. I did my usual routine of my first semester of 'college life.' as usual, I was early for class. it was a computer graphics class, so the TV was almost always on. that time, it wasn't. so I did what I usually do. go online, check my mail, and if there was anymore time, I?d sign on and see who was online. then my professor came in and turned on the TV. I looked at the screen, and then back at the computer. I mean, I didn't expect anything. I thought, 'oh , just the news.' then, I heard the newscaster say something about the towers in nyc. that got my attention, since my mom worked in one of the towers. I was nervous, images of what had happened in the bombing a few years back suddenly popped in my head. and of course, being the optimist that I am, I figured, 'ehh, it's probably nothing.' so, I just sat there, eyes glued to the screen, confused as ever can be. listening to the theories of the newscasters, professors, and my classmates. we all looked at each other, then back at the screen, eyes haunted with worries and unanswered questions. 'how could this be? what is this? this can't be a terrorist attack. can it? an accident? how could the pilot not see the towers?? then as we were watching this, we see something soaring directly towards the second tower.' AAHH! what the heck is that?' everyone shouted. ?that can't be another plane?!' YES! OH MY GOD! ANOTHER PLANE!' tears started pouring down our eyes. 'IT'S AN ATTACK.' we couldn't believe it. I couldn't believe it. I was shocked. first tower, all worries aside. my mom works in the second tower. then when the second plane hit the second tower, I was in a state of total shock. my friend next to me, asks me what happened, I told her what I?ve heard. shocked. she cries, my dad works there. then I thought, 'my mom works there! got to get to a phone. my cell! I tried calling my mom and dad on a payphone. NOTHING. I tried and tried on the payphone and on the cell. I look around, as I see people dropping to the floor crying. people comforting every person next to them. I see people's eyes glued to the TV, as scenes of what just happened played over and over. this was it. I was going to go home. I went to the parking lot and drove home, crying. still trying to reach my mom, dad, brother, or even cousins. I drove on rt.3 and saw what has been done. I looked to my right, to the once so beautiful new york skyline, now filled with black clouds, as if the heavens fell on new york and wrecked havoc. it truly looked like a scene from a movie, let alone a nightmare that I thought would never happen. I listened to the news on the radio the whole trip home. as I went home, I saw familiar faces, which brought me hope. we were so worried, we haven't heard from anybody yet. tears running down our eyes, as we watched the news, in shock. is this a movie? replays of the attack over and over. we still couldn't believe it. then, my brother tells us my mom left a message on the answering machine. oh what a relief that was. she told us she was fine and that she got out safely. now, the wait continues for my dad and my aunts. slowly, time flies. still watching the news, my dad steps in. OMYGOD! :hugs: where's mom?! she's with your tita loty and tita mady. a great sigh of relief. I love you GOD! now worries of my tita gail overcome all of us at home. my tito boy and tito chong then arrives. everyone telling their own experience. screaming, teary- eyed, in disbelief, of what was happening with the towers and the pentagon. it seemed like a nightmare. I overheard my dad telling them how he was trying to run to see if my mom was okay. how he had to run away from the big cloud that had come due to the towers collapsing. how he had to dodge it, and hide in a store. how he had seen pieces of people's bodies on the floor. how worried he was when he couldn't reach my mom. then finally my mom and tita loty came. they made us so happy. tears ran down from all of our eyes. The greatest relief I felt. I would never take my parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, family, friends, for granted. My mom then retold her story. The story I?d never forget. She said she was early for work. So she had breakfast at her desk. She felt the building shake, and she looked out the window, and saw pieces of metal falling from the air. She said she thought it was a suicide. But then again, she said how they would be able to break through the window. So she got up with her fellow workers, and started heading towards the stairs. She and some of her co-workers had gone through the bombing a few years back, and they weren't going to take another chance. So as they were heading to the stairs, my mom ran with her co-worker who was pregnant (later on she called my mom 'her hero'). But as they were going to go down, they saw an old lady (which we figure was a guardian angel), who said, 'take the elevator' which is weird, since you shouldn't be taking the elevator, at an emergency. They then reached the lobby. Another rumble. Second plane hits the second tower. All drop to the floor screaming 'OMIGOD' terrified, my mom and her co-worker run to the train, which they believed was the last train. They took it to 33rd St. what luck they have everyone said. They made it just it time. My mom said, that's when she first saw the great damage to the towers, when she got off the train and walked up the stairs to the street. She said how she was so upset. How she worked there for so long, and it has come to this. Now I?m so thankful for everyone who has been there for me through all this. You all made me strong and helped me realize how precious life is. God bless their souls, and those who they left behind. We will always remember. On September 11, 2001, I lived in West Milford, New Jersey. I was at my day job when we heard the horrible news on the radio. I was also a Volunteer EMT and Firefighter for the town of West Milford at the time. I immediately left the office (with or without pay, I didn't care) to stand by at my Ambulance Station, where I met up with most of the West Milford crew. After an hour or so, when the first building fell, we were dispatched to go to Liberty State Park. I drove one of the five ambulances that left that day. It was a very anxious time, as we headed towards Jersey City. The cars not pulling off to the side as we tried to pass, sirens going off everywhere from fire trucks headed in the same direction, more ambulances pulling on the road as we passed through other towns, and billowing smoke and fire off across the river, from Tower #1. As we approached Liberty State Park, the second Tower had just fallen, as well as a smaller building next to it! It was devestating even from this distance! There were hundreds of ambulances from so many towns parking everywhere in uniform rows. I couldn't believe the turn-out! I remember everyone sobbing and moaning at the sad site, as soot covered people started arriving from boats via NYC. I remember in particular; one lady and one man all dressed up for work. They were holding each other up, as they wobbled towards me in shock and coughing. They had ashes all over them. Their nostrils, their eyes, around their mouths and ears, their cloths, legs and shoes. It was everywhere! I asked them if they needed oxygen and checked them for obvious scrapes or burns. Other members took over and I went looking for other victims. I found many exausted Firefighters overwhelmed by the smoke and soot, as well as other things I won't mention because it's just too graphic. This went on most of the day. At one point, we were all re-positioned to the peers where people in charge set up a "receiving" area for more victims being brought across the river to us. There were showers set up that the victims were required to undress and pass through because of the fuel and such, that may have contaminated them. Then they were to be escorted to a Doctor and a group of 3 volunteers consisting of Nurses, EMT's, Firefighters, etc., that were each stationed next to rows and rows of cots. Each cot had blankets, IV's, medicines, gloves, masks, everything need to care for the victims before determining if they needed to go to nearby hospitals and such. It was amazing how well it was run because there were literally thousands of people to coordinate. By the end of the day, most of the ambulances were either sent home or dispatched to other nearby locations to continue to help. Needless to say, I couldn't sleep that night or many weeks after that, as thoughts of the many other victims (including Firefighters and EMT's) still lay under the demolished towers - not found. God rest their souls and God bless everyone who helped during and after 911. I will never forget it as long as I live! I now live in Florida and am looking to possibly pursue a "career" as a Firefighter/Paramedic. I need to re-school, but it will be worth it! It is a "paying" job for something I love. I just have to gather up the funds; since Florida doesn't pay for school like New Jersey did. If there's anyone out there that would like to help me, I would really be grateful! Tell us your story: I woke up around 6:30, a little on the early side, and heard my mom mention something about the news as I climbed into the shower. I got out, went downstairs, and turned on the TV. The next thing I did was call the two people who I really trusted back then, my girlfriend Amelia and my teammate Jesse. Amelia had already left for school, but I got through to Jesse. Here's our conversation: Jesse: Hey what?s up man? Me: You're not gonna believe this. Jesse: What? Me: Turn on your TV Jesse: what? what channel Me: It doesn?t matter Jesse: Oh shit Me: Yea...I gotta go, I'll see you at school The day at school was a blur. I remember so many teachers acted like nothing was happening and continued as normal with the lessons, but I couldn't focus. I didnt know what to feel. Having never been to the east coast, I couldn't get my mind around the fact that this was actually happening. That evening I sat in front of the TV and watched the images again and again. I probably sat there for two hours just absorbing it. I don't think I had a single emotional reaction the whole day. Shock had wiped away any feeling I could have about the events. I fell asleep not knowing what the next day would bring. Over the next few weeks and months I changed. Having grown up in Berkeley in the 90's meant that I really saw no real need for a military establishment. Sure we had enemies, but they were so far removed it was difficult to imagine them ever being a direct threat to us. In those following weeks I not only realized why we needed a military, I began to consider the kind of people they were looking for. Less than two years after my visions of pacificm and the good of all people had faded, on July 1st, 2003 I reported for 7 weeks of basic training also know as Plebe Summer at the United States Naval Academy. It?s after 11 p.m. on September 11, 2001, and my eyes are burning. So is my stomach. I walked into the newsroom at the Akron Beacon Journal at 9 a.m. on the dot, expecting a leisurely day of editing stories for Sunday?s section about Bob Dylan, Stephen King, new movies on video, memories of an old church. But before I could even get to my desk and toss my purse and satchel off my shoulder, one of our features editors, Betsy Lammerding, went past me looking grim. ?A plane just hit the World Trade Center,? she said. My first thought was that things like this shouldn?t happen in this age of modern air-traffic control. I joined a circle of people gathered around one of the newsroom TVs, just as someone said ?Oh my God, another one.? Horrifying video of a plane smashing through the other tower, bursting in flames out the other side and showering debris down onto the streets below. Still, my brain didn?t quite register. Accident? Massive air-traffic screwup? Oh, my God. No mistake, no accident. My purse and bag suddenly felt a whole lot heavier. There were gasps around the room. No one moved. One of our columnists, standing behind me, said, ?It?s bin Laden.? Then we were all in motion. People shouting or hustling across the room, phones ringing, computer keys rattling. Plans were made instantly. There was no question that we?d be publishing an extra today. The managing editor came to my desk, announced to my boss that he was stealing me, and fired off on the way back to the metro area all the things that were already on the budget for the extra. I was proud to be part of the team, and the journalist half of my brain was fully engaged. We who work in this business can be odd people. When news is breaking, we?re the hardest of hardasses, thinking nothing but ?This is a HUGE story.? Dave Adams and I were in charge of the wire service feeds, scanning for and pulling stories that might work for our special edition, editing some and passing some off to other editors, weaving everything together. Scene stories from Washington and New York. The text of Bush?s brief speech. Working with the art department on a map of the targets that changed every few minutes. But every time a new horror would appear at the top of the wire, it would take me back a step or two. People leaping from the top floors of the buildings. Cell phone calls from the doomed airliners. The two towers collapsing on top of victims and their rescuers. ?Jesus,? I kept repeating. ?The towers are fucking GONE?? Dave said, to himself as much as me, ?Stay focused. Think about it after.? About three and a half hours after the first plane?s impact, forty thousand copies of our Extra hit the streets. Nothing is more of a thrill to our journalistic rat-brain, except maybe the words ?Stop the presses!? which nobody ever says anymore. The headline was a quote, screaming over the picture of the fireball, ?OH, MY GOD!? After the Extra printed, everyone stood around for about an hour, eating pizza although nobody was really hungry, watching the news feeds with wide eyes and grim faces. This was the ?after? time Dave talked about, when we all let the enormity of the disaster sink in a little before having to return to work. My mom called, saying she knew I was safe, but she just had to talk to me. Lots of others were doing the same. It took several tries to get back to her because the phone lines were jammed. We had a meeting at 1 p.m. to plan coverage for the next day. Our own fears and concerns bubbled to the surface here, along with those we tried to anticipate the readers would have; a friend with a 17-year-old son said she was terrified that this would lead to a new military draft; another said he wanted to know how to get through and find out whether loved ones were all right; another wondered how to tell his kids, let alone how to cope with it himself. I sent e-mails to two friends in the devastated area and awaited news on a third. Focus. Go to more meetings, volunteer to edit stories. Cringe at every new gruesome report, but keep plowing through. Kathy heard from one of our friends in New York. He was safe and he had accounted for all his friends in the city. [Later, I would find out that he had been at the World Trade Center the day before -- and had dropped off his response card for my upcoming wedding in a mailbox in the lobby. I never received it. So there's a tiny part of my life that was buried in the rubble.] I got a somber e-mail from another friend in New Jersey, who was watching from his windows and said it was so much worse than we could comprehend just by looking at the TV. By about 6 p.m., I?d moved all my stories and was catching up on the latest information. The horror seemed to be settling in with my colleagues. The New York skyline looked like a grimace with its front teeth punched out. None of us could quite wrap our minds around the fact that those two giant buildings, and all the people inside, were just gone. My brother phoned, and he and I talked about piloting planes, about how he might explain this to his inquisitive and bright five-year-old son. I left work around 8 p.m., an 11-hour day. It felt like forever since Betsy had told me the first news, but it also felt as though it were just an hour ago. Driving home, I saw people lined up at the gas stations, fearful of higher prices. I saw St. Sebastian?s and Christ Methodist with their lights on and doors open. I saw so many people on the streets, jogging, walking dogs, clustered in front lawns. I stopped to talk to Kellie and Dan, my neighbors who are getting married just a month before Marc and I are, who were out walking their dog. They said the puppy was jumpy tonight, very tense and nervous. Animals know more about their humans? moods than we give them credit for. When I pulled into my driveway, the latest radio report was telling me that 200 firemen and rescue workers were feared dead in the collapse. In my rear-view mirror, I saw my neighbor Jennifer. She was standing by the fence with her Dalmatian. We talked. She said she got home early because her office shut down; she spent the afternoon trying to reach friends in New York. Then she went over to a friend?s house, just because neither of them wanted to be alone. Ten minutes later, Kellie came over, and we watched the news and shook our heads and pondered what kind of world we live in. Our future anniversaries will always have this stain. People just needed to talk about this. That?s probably why I felt compelled to write. The scope of this disaster is so far beyond my comprehension, so far beyond precedent. I hear comparisons to Pearl Harbor and I can?t imagine how this attack on innocent people isn?t so much worse. I don?t want to forget the depth of fear and disgust and pit-of-the-stomach sickness I felt today. As I said earlier, we journalist types have to focus on the story when we?re working. Tell us your story: On my way to work, I just got off the highway in Downtown, I remember being at a stop light in front of the Fleet Bank Building when the news broke on the radio, and I looked up at the building, and told myself, "What?" "A plane hit a building, how was that possible?" I ran down stairs just as the second plane hit. I said ??Oh my god!? and gasped. I could not believe somone could do something so horrible. Then came the unthinkable. The first tower collapsed and I screamed. We all said a prayer then I headed to the bus stop. We all talked about what had happened and how scared we were that something would happen to us. Then we talked about how mad we were. The overall feeling on the bus was sadness and fear. What kind of jerk would do something so horrible. When we arrived at school we talked about what had happened. Our teacher gave us a few moments to let out our emotions. I asked if this was a dream because I still didn?t believe what had happened. I couldn?t wait to get home to watch the news. I couldn?t believe someone attacked my country. Tell us your story: Throughout the years of sitting in History classes learning about America?s past conflicts and wars, I never would have thought I would live through one myself. As a whole, most Americans feel as if America is a strong, superior country compared to others. As we found on September 11, 2001, although superior, we can not defend against all. Before this tragic day, there were absolutely no worries, except for coming unprepared to class with an upcoming test for which I did not study. In history class I never recall learning about terrorism or the Muslim religion. Only two weeks into the school year terrorists attack our country. I was sitting in Mr. Cronin?s psychology class. We were experimenting with a lab that seemed too difficult to understand. He got the message from another teacher to turn on the television. There, we saw an image of the World Trade Center; a plane had struck it. Not thinking it was anything to worry about, Mr. Cronin turned off the TV. We got back to the unending lesson. Nobody thought anything of the news. In between classes, people were talking nonstop about the disaster. Everyone was terrified and frantic. When I reached my fifth period class, our teacher agreed to let us watch the TV. He insisted that it was necessary to watch and pay close attention to the horrific news about our country. By the end of the day I was exhausted. My brain was drained from feeling such heartache. I arrived home and accompanied my mother watching the television- No surprise. We talked about the issue some, then proceeded with our daily schedule. I could not concentrate on doing my homework. For once, it just was not important. I made time to reflect back on what had happened. I had never felt so angry towards another country until now- until they questioned our strength and took advantage of us. I felt sad for the families who dealt with their loved ones who died. I could easily put myself in their shoes. Knowing what it is like to lose a loved one, makes it so much harder to see or hear about others going through the same discomfort. I wanted revenge. All I could have asked for was to at least bomb their country; we needed to prove to them that we were capable of defeating them in whatever they were trying to prove-we are much stronger. The solid image of the people of Iraq dancing in the street still remains in my mind. To see people so joyous by others? pain makes me wonder how happy they are with their own lives. Since September 11th, I have been able to let go of feeling so angry. I have forgiven the people who have done us wrong. The only way to live my own life with happiness is to not have such hateful, angry feelings towards others. We must learn to move forward. Americans are patriotic and are willing to die for their country. We are united more than ever, and will stay so by the remembrance of September 11th. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: The morning began as usual as we all make our routine drive in to work. I was settling into my office when our executive secretary was practically running down the hall informing us that one of the planes had hit one of the Twin Tower. At first, I thought it was some mistake for I thought how could that be possible. I remember we quickly ran to find a radio and got on the internet. It was horrifying to hear as the events unfold before our eyes. We felt hopeless like a sitting target not knowing if we were going to be next. At about 11:00a.m. I went downstairs to the lobby of the building...people were everywhere, some running, some walking quickly, trying to get out of the building and out of the parking garage as fast as they can. I walked over to the glass window facing Smith Street...cars were lined bumpers to bumpers but nobody was going anywhere. People were honking their horns, fire trucks were trying to make their way through by sounding off their horns but people stuck at a stand still. I've always believed in God and in the power of prayers and I prayed to God to get us through this for this was a day in which none of us would ever forget. It was as though time stood still. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I was in the 3rd grade at the time. When we were in the libary the libarian had the news on. Beining a very nossey child, I was listening to the libarian talk to another teach about the news. So I listened to the news to see what they were talking about. The news reporter was talking about the tragity that had happened in New York. I grew very worried because my great uncle work in the twin towers and my grangmother lived out there. I stoped paying attention to my lesson and had eyes and ears on the television. That afternoon when I got home from school I saw my mama trying to hold in her tears. I asked her why she crying, but she turned away in disappointment. My sister had told me that our uncle and grandmother had just died in the twin towers. I felt bad because not just love ones of other people had died, but the ones I loved most had passed away also. I will continue life remembering the my love ones and so will others. They will always be with me in spirit, but I wish they were still here in the flesh. No matter how long it has been or will be since the tourist had attacked, 9-11 has made history. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I was on my way out the door, heading to work, when ny best freind called from New York. He said, "Are you watching TV?" I told him that I wasn't, and I could tell by the tone of his voice that something was seriously wrong. He said that "we were under attack" and that someone had driven a plane through the World Trade center, and and that another plane had hit the other tower just after. He said that he had heard that the Pentagon was also hit, and that "they" didn't know if there were more planes out there ready to hit other buildings. My initial reaction was shock and fear. Then I turned on the television, and watched in horror as people leaped to their deaths from the burning towers. An ex-New Yorker myself, I watched helplessly as panicked masses ran from the crumbling towers I had been inside of and stood beneath so many times. I tried to call all of my friends in New York, but couldn't get through. I have not been back since the attack. The pain is too overwhelming. I can not bear to see that empty spot in the skyline that I took for granted for so many years.
