For as a Bible believing Christian, I see that our society and the world in general has grossly removed itself from God. Though, America continues to claim being vastly "Christian", it would seem that Americans have forsaken the Biblical foundation which our founding fathers established this great country on. Biblical standards and absolutes are no longer tolerated, rather the "standard" is to force people to tolerate what ever. There no longer is a right or wrong, for this country refuses an absolute standard to judge right and wrong against. Our moral fabric is so tattered, that it is all but a crime to display Christian symbols in public, to post "The Ten Commandment" in public places, to say the name of the Christian God in public, to proclaim Biblical teaching in public, and the list goes on. For our places of worship to teach against abortion, divorce, adultery, homosexuality, the corruption of a political candidate is now not politically correct and such institutions will lose their tax exempt status under current IRS law. There is a solution, there is hope for American people(and the world). This solution and hope is found in the Bible, The Word of God, an everlasting Truth, an absolute standard. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I was home that morning with my then 3-year old son. I had Diane Sawyer's show on low on the television as I played with my son. I remember the screen suddenly changed to a helicopter showing a fire at one of the Twin Towers. I turned up the volume, but it was still unclear to those broadcasting what had happened. They believed that maybe a plane had crashed into the Tower, though there was no confirmation. Suddenly, to the right of the screen, an airplane came into view. My mind scrambled to make sense of what I was seeing and I was hollering "turn the plane, turn the plane!" I screamed as I helplessly watched the airplane crash directly into the World Trade Center, the other Tower. My mind was still scrambling to make sense of what I was witnessing. Had the pilot become confused? What the HELL was going on?? I was crying. The voices on the television were saying "attack". Oh, Dear Lord, this couldn't be. I ran for the phone, calling my sister and dear friend, Cheryl, to tell of what I just witnessed. Now, the voices on the television were speaking of people jumping out windows. Another plane hit the Pentagon. I am devastated and scared now. My country is under attack! I call my daughter's school to notify I am coming to get her. I need her home. My family MUST be together. The line is repeatedly busy. There is talk of a plane crash in Pennsylvania. My scrambling mind is now thinking that planes are dropping all over the country, killing and causing devastation everywhere, as if in a bad movie. Thankfully, the plane in Pennsylvania is the last one reported. Air space is now closed. The school phone line is still busy! I am watching the events unfold on my television. Crying. Praying. Praying that the firemen and policemen are able to get everybody safely out of the Towers. I am routing them on, not at all prepared for what I was about to witness. The collapse. Oh, Dear God, all of those people. Oh, no! Please, no! I am shaking and crying now. I feel like I am trapped in a nightmare. I pull myself together and go to the school to pick up my daughter. She knows of the news. She, too, is scared. She asks me, "will we be alright, Mommy?" I tell her that air space is closed. The military is guarding. She feels reassured, though sticks close the rest of the day and night. That night, she asks to sleep with me. I say O.K. without hesitation. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: On 9/11/01, my husband and I were on a cruise to the western Caribbean. We were in Jamaica, and after sightseeing a while, I returned to the cruise ship and he stayed on shore to shop a while. Going back on the ship, I noticed that we had to check in through many more checkpoints than we had had to any time before. No one was explaining the extra security, and I thought that perhaps there had been a bomb threat against the ship. I went to our cabin to nap, but my husband came in shortly and said to turn on the TV, that a cab driver had said something about a bomb in New York City. We turned on the TV in time to see reruns of the first plane hitting the Towers, and then the second plane hitting the Towers. We were stunned. Throughout the rest of the day and that evening, there was a definite air of grief over the whole ship, even affecting the passengers who were not American citizens. Passengers gathered in the lounges around the televisions, but there was little conversation. The show scheduled for that night was a comedian, and that was rescheduled. We were due to leave Jamaica that evening at 7:00 to return to Miami. Of course, since the US was closed, the captain didn't know where his ship would go, so we just stayed in port until after midnight. We finally left Jamaica and, after a day spent at sea, returned to Miami on Thursday morning. The ship was escorted to the dock by several Coast Guard and other vessels. We were supposed to disembark that morning, but instead we were kept on the ship until late in the afternoon. During the day, we were told that the cruise line would pay for one night?s lodging in Miami, and would work with passengers to try to find a way for them to get home ? OR we could re-embark on the next cruise. We opted for that, as did the majority of the passengers. Trying to re-embark was a study in errors, since the cruise line wasn?t prepared to re-embark over 600 people! Finally, after midnight we were able to go to our new cabins. The next day on TV, we saw a report that ?two Middle Eastern men were arrested off of a _______ cruise ship that docked in Miami on Thursday because their names were on the FBI list.? Our ship was the only one that docked that day! We had wondered why there were men with guns around!! In Cozumel, as we disembarked, we were met by a huge crowd of people carrying suitcases. They were American tourists who were stuck in Mexico, because the planes weren?t landing in the US, and were desperately trying to find a way to go home. We found out what it was like to be totally cut off from our country. While I appreciated having a place to stay and food to eat and things to do ? I kept thinking, ?I just wish we were in OUR country right now! I just want to be home in America.? Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: This was our first vacation together as a family in about 5 years and probably our last. Our children were approaching the age that they would soon be leaving home and starting their own lives. The oldest child is Keith he just graduated techincal college and our youngest son Shane was a senior in high school. We had wanted to take our sons on one last vacation as a family that they would never forget. I'm sure it is one that they will never forget ever. As Jehovah's Witnesses we decided to take them to the world headquarters of our religous organization, which are based in Brooklyn, New York. We took a bus tour along with 55 others Jehovah's Witnesses many families and young singles who wanted to see the world headquarters. All of us on the trip were trilled with the beautiful weather that we had for our visit. We arrived in New York on Sunday September 9, 2001. We had started the day with a giuded bus tour of Manhattan we were shown all the sights with the exception of a ride down Broadway, because it was closed for Broadway on Broadway. After that we went to Pier 17 where we were left to choice what we wanted to do for the rest of the day. Some of the families went to the World Trade Centers and went to the roof to see the beautiful skyline we walked down to the WTC but didn't go to the top. We decided to go to Battery Park and take the ferry to the Islands. The day was so nice that the island for that Statue of Liberty had lines snaking all over the island. So we decide not to stop at Staten Island because there were so many people waiting to get back to Manhattan that we just rode straight back. We did some shopping for gifts for family. We had a great day. Our hotel was in New Jersy by the air port so we headed back to Jersy and spent the night. Monday was another wonderful day. Our tour was of the Watchtower factory buildings in Brooklyn. We went back to Jersy Monday night. Tuesday we would tour the Office complex. Again the sun was bright the day was unseasonable pleasant. The bus was heading to Manhattan then to Brooklyn. We were just approaching the Holland tunnel when there was a commotion on the bus. My youngest son had just put down the camcorder, when some one yelled "the towers were hit!" Instantly he grabbed the camera and began shooting as the flames poured out of the tower. We were all in shock. One woman said I think a helicopter just flew into the tower. None of us had their radios on, we were all just dumbfounded. When I asked the teenage boy sitting next to us to turn on his walkman and listen to the news. The traffic to the tunnel came to a dead stand still, everyone was just staring over to Manhattan! Then the police came and started to direct the traffic through the tunnel, as we got through half an hour later we watched in horror as the second plane banked and headed straight for the second tower. The flames again, the traffic coming to a dead stop, the shocked looks on everyone's face. Slowly again the traffic was directed to get moving, we were in China town when we seen people running in the streets away from the towers. The police and the fire crews were heading through the crowds running in the streets trying to flee. The sounds of the sirens are etched in my memory and every time I hear a siren I see the people fleeing some covered with ashes and crying just running!! The report on the radio were terrorfying. There were more planes that had been hijacked. At least five and the targets were not known. It was hard sitting there wondering were those planes were and that we had just witness two hit the towers. When the news came over the radio that Pentagon had also been hit. There was a visible apprehension on everyone's face. How could they get to the Pentagon? What next? This will mean war, all us feared. Where are the other planes? A report came over the radio of a truck bomb in one of the tunnels to Manhattan. We were all getting very nervous. We were heading for the Brooklyn Bridge trying to get over to the Watchtower complex when the report came on the radio that the Port Authority would be shutting down all tunnels, bridges, the subway and the buses. However we did make it across to the Offices at The Watchtower Bible & Tract Society. There we were taken in and given words of encouragement and strength. We did not see the towers fall. The buildings were just behind some on the bay. Yet we did see the big gray cloud of debris and ash float down in front of the building we were in. Then we heard what had happened. I felt my knees shake as I waited to get to the phone to call my family back in Wisconsin and let them know what was happening that we were Ok. My father was at work and I choose to call him to let him know, it was probably 9:30 in New York and they had all seen it on the news already. They were greatly relieved to hear we were ok. It was hours before the roads were open again and we were allowed to leave the city. As we left Brooklyn we looked over to Manhattan and seen the people still coming over the bridge walking away from the destruction and the smoke still billowing from where the towers once stood. The sky was still a bright blue. The smoke was heading out toward the Statue of Liberty. None of us will forget that day, or the sights we seen and the pain and horror we felt at the tremendous losses incurred, as we realized that another plane had been downed in Pennsylvania. Sitting back home in Wisconsin today it is hard not to feel the same apprehension. My father decided to take the same tour we did and he is in New York now. We are all grateful that nothing slipped by the authorities and that the terrorist didn't attack again. We thank God, pray for the day when he will put and end to all such violent acts. Walking through the lobby of the 1 WTC, I remember leaving my i.d. card home that day and had to get a visitor's pass from the front desk. I arrived at work approximately 8:15 a.m. and sat at my desk and started talking to one of my colleagues. All of a sudden we hear this incredible thunderous sound. And then the windows begin to cave in. My first thought was to run and we preceeded to run to the receptionist area which looked like a hurricane hit it. We preceeded dowm the stairs but unfortunately when we got down a couple of flights of stairs the door wasn't opened (there was no knob or anyway to get in our out). We decided to go up instead of down. We must have been on the 83rd or 84th floor, when we were at a company and we were instructed to go in the conference room and that every thing was under control. While watching people call their loved ones (never thinking I really needed to do that since we didn't know what happened), all of a sudden the windows started to crash in and at that point, I sprained my ankle trying to get out of that conference. Now, we're preceeding down the stairs and I remember someone saying they heard that a helipcopter hit the building. My first thought was it couldn't be a helicopter because it wouldn't done that much damage to the windows. So we preceeded down the stairs and they're was smoke billowing in the stairwell and we couldn't breathe. I remember a woman having a bottle of water and sharing the bottle of water with myself and other people in the stairwell. One of the things that sticks out in my mind, I saw several firefighters going up the stairs and sitting on the floors I guess waiting to go up. We finally made it to the lobby and it was pretty weird because the lobby was normally very busy especially in the early morning. Once we were in the lobby, we were instructed that we could not go out through the street level - we would have to go out through the train stations. At this point, I never once asked what was wrong but I had a horrible feeling inside and knew something was terribly wrong because I kept hearing these strange crashing sounds (I realize know that it was bodies falling out the window). Once we got to the mall which is/was located right below the buildings, I noticed that it must've been evacuated because it was completely empty. All of a sudden, we hear what sounded like a hurricane or tornado coming towards us and we hear someone say run. We start to run but the sound kept coming closer and closer. I could feel myself being hurled around like a doll and when I awoke (not sure if I passed out) it was pitch dark (could not see in front of us). I was so frightened, it was such terror. One thing that frightened me more is that I was 6 months pregnant and thought my baby and I are going to die right in this place. Everyone is screaming and I remember begging god for my life. All of a sudden this voice comes from nowhere saying "shut the f up" we've got to get out of here so someone starts to hold on to my arm (he notices I'm pregnant), and we walk very carefully because I could feel stuff under my feet. Luckily, we see a flicker of light, which happened to be a opening. I'm not sure exactly how I got out because I've kind of blocked it out of my mind but I remember coming out of the building on the side of the church and news cameras were glaring in my face. Get to Chase Manhattan bank to call my sister to let her know I'm ok...she's frantic (never once telling me what she watched on tv). She says I'll meet you at Pace University, I said ok. Walking down the street in a daze, I arrive at a Starbucks that's right down the street from J&R Musicworld to wipe my face because I could barely see because of the debris all over me. I start to walk toward Pace University to meet my sister. Now people are screaming and running and sayiing the building's falling. I run as fast as I can but because of my sprained ankle, I just keep falling and thought "oh my god", I'm definitely going to die. What seems like an eternity the sound and debris stops. I walking near City Hall and at EMT comes up to me and says "Miss you have to come with me", I ask her what happened and she tells me terrorist blew up the WTC and the Pentagon. I'm hysterical. I guess I finally realized what had happened. I'm taken to the hospital and the next day, I lost my baby. It's taken me up until now to ever post my story because I've been in a state of shock for over a year and am know trying to come to terms with what happened - how my life changed in a split second. My family and I have always been very close but because my mom and my sister watched what happened on television and they assumed I was dead, it's made us appreciate life so much more. I COULD NOT BELIEVE ANYBODY COULD BE SO LOW AS TO KILL INNOCENT CHILDREN, WOMEN, AND MEN. THE ONE THING I KNOW IS BIN LADEN WILL BURN IN HELL FOR ETERNITY, THAT IS ONE CONSELATION, BUT IT DOES NOT BRING BACK THE THOUSANDS OF LIVES HE ENDED. MY THOUGHT IS NOW THIS COUNTRY SHOULD START DOING WHAT ISRAEL IS DOING TO THE SUICIDE BOMBERS. LETS GO TO THEIR FAMILIES HOUSES AND BULLDOZE THEM. THEN I THINK WE SHOULD INFLICT THE MENTAL ANGUISH ON THEM THAT THEY HAVE INFLICTED AN THE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE THAT LOST LOVED ONES ON THE 9-11-01. I KNOW THE BOBLE SAYS VENGEANCE IS MINE SAYETH THE LORD. BUT THIS TIME I THINK WE SHOULD HELP OUT. I STILL GET CHOKED UP AT SEEING THE IMAGES, AND THE INTERVIEWS WITH SURVIVORS OR FAMILY MEMEBERS. HE JUST SITS OUT THERE AND HIDES JUST LIKE A COWARD WOULD DO CAN'T COME OUT IN THE OPEN AND SAY I DID THIS HE HAS TO BE THE BIGGEST SOB EVER TO WALK THE FACE OF THE EARTH. I CONSIDER HIM WORSE THAN HITLER, MUSSOLINI, OR EVEN GINGIS KHAN. MY PERSONAL THOUGHT IS WHEN HE IS FOUND LETS STRING HIM UP AND TORTURE HIM THE SAME WAY HE TORTURED THE FAMILIES THAT LOST LOVED ONES, NOT BY KILLING HIS RELATIVES, BUT BY CUTTING OFF A TOE AT A TIME AND LET HIM EXPERIENCE A LITTLE BIT OF THE PAIN THAT HE HAS PUT THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE THRU BECAUSE OF HIS ACTIONS. ONCE HE QUITS SCREAMING FROM ONE BEING CUT OFF THEN DO ANOTHER ONE OVER AND OVER AGAIN DON'T LET HIM PASS OUT FROM THE PAIN IF YOU HAVE TO STOP IT THEN START AGAIN. My husband works at The American Craft Museum in New York City. He works in the basement of the building where all of the offices are located. They had no phone service, cell phones were not working, no tv. They did have a Bloomberg radio (a free promotional radio) that someone had. They had no idea if the city was going to be bombed and didn't know if they should leave or stay in the building. There was a quick announcement on the radio that the Long Island Railroad would reopen for a very short time. My husband raced twenty-five blocks to the station. 1500 people were waiting to get in. There were policeman everywhere. As they were waiting, a plane flew overhead and everyone looked up at once, terrified at first, but happy to find out that it wasn't another attack. They let one person into the huge train station at a time. My husband sat on the train for an hour and then they let the trains leave. Shortly afterward, the train station was closed. My husband arrived home at about 3:30. When I saw him I cried my eyes out. He stayed home for the next two days and the museum had no phone service for a few months after. He always walks from the train station to work now and almost never takes the subway, as a safety precaution. On September 11th, I (like most of my fellow Americans) witnessed the senseless slaughter of human life. The department was put on high alert and our tours of duty were extended. With the exception of a scant five minutes to change my uniform of the day, I did not see my wife and son until later that evening. My squad was deployed to the hotels near the Philadelphia International Airport. In each and every hotel we checked we saw the faces of travelers, many of them American, change from distraught to a significance of hope. People walked up to us and thanked us for being there. We were just doing our job. We were asked our feelings for fallen brothers and sisters in New York. I could only respond that it was horrible, seeing no need to raise their already heightened anxiety. I felt the pulse of the true America was still beating. I witnessed strangers offering to pay for dinner, a room, or share a taxi. When I returned home, I kissed my wife and hugged her. I went upstairs to kiss my son who should have been already asleep. Being the son of a Philadelphia police officer myself, I could not be angry with my six-year-old for waiting up and feigning sleep for my return. I too had done the same during the turbulence of the late sixties and early seventies. My son, Timothy, sat up in his bed, and asked me, "Did you and your partners catch the bad guys that hurt those people with the bomb and airplanes?" "No," I said. I choked back a sob. "We didn't. Not today." Timothy leaned closer to me. For the first time in my son's life, he was witnessing me crying. He held my face. "Don't cry daddy." He put on a brave face. "All those police and firefighters that died when the buildings fell on them will be replaced by their sons." I began to cry heavier. My son just held me and said, "It's gonna be OK." My six-year-old, perhaps oblivious to the true magnitude of the tragedy, was comforting me with his simple wisdom. I only pray my son will not take up my choice of career, and find his own path because he had shown me that night that he has the soul of the BRAVEST. He wants to be a firefighter/detective, in other words, a fire marshal. My only regret is that I am duty bound to Philadelphia, and wish to have been there to at least bring our brothers and sisters out to let them rest in peace. The morning of September 11th I had gotten out of bed to get our daughter and bring her into the bedroom so my wife could nurse her. I changed her diaper, and was disposing of it in a wonderful invention called a diaper genie. Well, the diaper genie was full for the first time and I didn't know how to empty it. I called our next door neighbor who has a daughter 3 months older than Hanna Mary. She told me what to do, and asked if we were watching the news. Apparently, something was going on in New York with the World Trade Center. I emptied the diaper genie, and returned to the bedroom with my wife, Kristy, and our daughter. I flipped on the TV and we sat there and watched the World Trade Center burning. Soon after we had turned on the news, the second plane exploded into the second tower. Such a range of emotions overcame us - we were as happy as we'd ever been, but we were so torn by what we were watching unfold. It was hard to beleive that such things could happen in this world, in our country, and right in front of our eyes. My daughter napped on my chest while, as far as my wife and I knew, people were dying. It was the most heart-wrenching feeling. I was so glad I was home with my family. September 12th was my first day to go back to work, but I can't imagine how I would have felt if I had not been there. All in the matter of a few hours, I had experienced so many emotions: happiness, shock, disbelief, anger, sadness. All I could think about was my daughter lying there in the bed next to my wife and I, and think that the next day after such unbeleivable events, that I had to leave them. I thought it was like when a B-25 ran into the Empire State Building after WWII but that was a thick foggy day. I couldn't believe that some nut could have flown into the WTC on such a clear day. While watching, I thought I saw a helicopter flying around to ascertain the damage but that turned out to be a second plane crashing into the other tower of the WTC. When I learned what had happen and who was responsible. especially when the report came about the Pentagon, I was furious and wanted to sign up for service against the cowards but then I started to cry thinking about all the people that were trapped in those buildings. As the day continued into days and weeks and months, I became very proud to be an American as we were watching the heroics of all the police & fireman and construction crews working around the clock to save people and to recover the bodies of the victims. Regardless of the costs, we must continue the war on terrorism until it is wiped from this planet. I went back and told the others I work with. Soon after we got world about the other tower. Then we got world about the Pentagon. We then heard they were considering shooting down the 4th jet even though it had civilians on it. We didn't know what to think. At lunch I called my husband and he was near tears. I asked him if it was as bad as we were hearing. He said it was. He was watching the stocks and saw the 2nd plane hit the towers. When I talked to him the 1st tower was coming down. All he could say was "Oh my God." Our school went into lock down and we had quite a few parents come to get their kids. Being that my son goes to a junior high school near our one nuclear plant I told my husband that he could go take him out if he wanted to do so. We knew if anything happened they would evacuate because they were in the 10 mile radius. Where I worked, we were out of the radius and so was our home. When I got home I just watched the TV and couldn't believe what I saw. I thought for sure more people would get out then actually did. It was a very long time before anything went back to normal. It was just weird not seeing planes in the sky that day and the next few. It was like the world stopped. I had to worry when my husband went to work at night because he worked at at chemical plant. I knew they upped their security but.... All in all it was a strange feeling to be so close to something. That 4th plane crashed in our state and only about 3 hours ? away. That was too close for comfort. Even today I look to the sky when planes fly over but relax when I see they are only the planes that patrol the nuclear power plant. Tell us your story: Although, I was very fortunate not to have lost anyone close to me as a result of the attacks on 9/11, a part of my heart remains a slow bleed. I know that part of the human experience is to walk through the various levels of grief that life presents to us. Two experiences from which I have not yet healed stand out among all the rest - the very unexpected death of my mother and the attack on our country on September 11, 2001. I was working at the corporate headquarters for the private security company who was responsible for the passenger screening of United 93. Although the private security industry was riddled with infractions, the company was healthy, prosperous, and a fun place to work. I loved the work I did and was planning to retire with the organization. I remember like it was yesterday standing in my cubicle listening to the news of what was unfolding before our American eyes. Heavy traffic jammed the Internet. Two planes had hit the WTC towers, and now a plane had slammed into the Pentagon ... I thought my heart would stop. The phone at my desk rang - it was a co-worker in NYC trying to explain to me that we were under attack. I have never heard these words spoken and as an American, I was not supposed to hear these words. I am a Jersey Girl. My father is a native New Yorker. I have cousins who were born and raised in NYC and still reside in the very apartment in which they were born. I was still reeling from the death of my mother, and at that moment, I needed to call her, but couldnt. This could not be happening. I watched one of my young co-workers trembling while dialing the phone to call her new husband. She was frightened, and I was frightened for her, for me, for my country, and for what I did not know was happening. My employer took an enormous hit, both financially and emotionally. We were bombarded with ugly press, and received external emails condemning us murderers. We worked long hours to accommodate the media calls, the calls to and from the airlines who were our clients, and the FAA. I don't think I slept the first five nights after the attack. I kept my television on around the clock. Staying close to any live coverage in some way provided me a sense of connectedness to everyone else like me who was walking around in an emotional haze. My parents died two years apart, and I needed to hear their voices. My home, a small apartment, a place where I always felt safe, only magnified the fact that I was truly alone in a time when I didnt want to be alone. I have always been a strong woman. In addition to losing my parents, I lost many close friends over the years to cancer, AIDS, car accidents, and suicide. I deal with my grief with dignity. Except for a tear or two in front of a close friend, I do not publicly emote. My friend and co-worker in New York who called me to say we were being attacked lost his brother-in-law in the World Trade Center. I cried for months following the that year. Autumn was heavy with grief, winter became depressing, we then went to war. Less than two years after 9/11, my company was bought and sold, and sold again, never to be what we once were. Although to my disappointment and worry, my position was dissolved. I left having made several close friends who are now a part of my life. These friendships were born out of tragedy and heartache. My nephew, now a Captain in the 101st Airborne, was ordered to Iraq a short time after the US invasion. I prayed for him daily and hoped he would not come home in a coffin. He was wounded and awarded a Purple Heart while in Iraq. My heart raced at any breaking news of downed helicopters and insurgent attacks. My nephew is home now and he is safe. I see the future when I look at him with his beautiful wife and young baby girl. His younger brother is almost on his way to Army boot camp. I secretly pray for God to watch over them and to not let them bear witness to another attack in their lifetime, yet I know better. Our country is different now, and while to some degree we have all gone on with our lives, I know that what I thought could never happen, could easily happen again. A part of me is gravely concerned. It is as if the world has put on boxing gloves and we are all just waiting for the next punch to send us reeling again. 9/11 has changed me in many ways. I require myself to learn all I can about my countrys political climate, especially globally. I walk up to men and women in uniform and while choking back tears, I thank them for their commitment to keeping us all safe and free. I see the American flag as more than just a symbol, and fly a big one proudly over my house. I am more proud of my country than I have ever been. I do not always agree with the decisions of our leaders, but I support them the best I can. It is what Americans like me do. For me, this time of year used to be all about long, hot summer days and nights. Now, it is a time to begin slowly remembering the painful attack we suffered on our own soil … the day we watched thousands of fellow Americans die before our eyes … the day we walked out of the emotional rubble and into an uncertain future. I do not ask for my heart to heal completely … it would be like shutting the door on so many pained fellow Americans. My heartache is what keeps the memory alive. While entering the command I passed a friend who stated to me: " A plane just flew into the World Trade Center!". I said to him; " Oh man, that is terrible!" Little did I know the size or extent of the damage. Upon completion of my roll call, I walked into the command kitchen area and saw on TV that another plane had struck the other tower and I realized it was probably an attack on our country. I ran outside and up to the train station and I could see the smoke billowing over to Brooklyn clearly. I then telephoned my fiancee Elizabeth and told her; " Those fucking bastards flew planes into our World Trade towers!!". She hadn't known this yet and she was just in shock. Over my police radio we got a message to immediately return to our command for further instructions. I ran to the command where we all jumped into a Police Van and got the duties given. We proceeded to downtown Brooklyn and shut down the Borough Hall train station. You could barely see anything downtown and that was in Brooklyn! All around us was paper and debris raing down from the Towers in Manhattan. I picked up some chunks of sheetrock from the ground and put the in my pocket as a souvenir of this catastropy. People were walking over the Brooklyn Bridge to downtown and they looked like ghosts, all covered in this coating of dust from the Towers. It was awful. We were told to put on paper masks due to the discovery of high levels of Asbestos in the air. That day I did a twelve hour tour and then went to the site in Manhattan on my off time to help dig for anyone we could find. I will never. ever forget what I saw when we arrived at the site. Unimaginable mountains of burning, twisted destruction. I took a couple pictures and we jumped on the pile to help in the bucket brigade. I remember handing pieces of huge steel that would burn through your gloves as you held them to the guy next to me. It was so unreal, and the smell I will never forget. After countless trips in my free time to the site I finally realized: We weren't going to find any survivors here. It was impossible. Well, I did what I could and I still to this day am so angry that this act was set upon our country, my city and my brothers and sisters. We lost twenty-three cops and hundreds of firemen not to mention civilians. I hope to never see anything like that again in my life. David D. He told me to watch the news. i had watched it from the time the first tower was hit til i had to go to school at 6:30. Then at school during my zero period my teacher had let us watch what had happend. i couldn't believe that this was actually happening. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I work in retail so I have a different schedule every week, I just happened to be off on Tuesday, September 11,2001. I watch the Today Show every morning so that's when I first heard the news that a plane hit the World Trade Center. At first I thought it was an accident, or some foolish stunt gone wrong. A couple of weeks earlier some guy was skydiving and got cought up in the Statue of Liberty, and I thought it was something like that. Then the second tower was hit, I knew something was terribly wrong. Then the Pentagon, then the plane crash in Pennsylvania. I sat in front of the TV pretty much all day. I did have to go out and run some errands, and everyone I saw was feeling the same as me, total disbelief. Later that day, my Dad called me from Rhode Island to see if I was OK. He is a veteren of Second World War and Korea. I said "Dad, they are comparing this attack to Pearl Harbour, is this as bad as that?" And he said "Oh honey, this is much worse than Pearl Harbour, this was an attack on civilians, that's the difference." Just like people will remember where they were on December 7, 1941, in my lifetime, I will always remember where I was on November 22, 1963 and on September 11, 2001. Just after lunch our Group CEO was talking to his broker on the phone when he told us " The World Trade Centre has just been hit by a plane". We thought it was a terrible accident and rushed downstairs to check CNN.Sure enough, there it was, one of the towers of the World Trade Centre - burning. I couldn't believe it when I saw the second plane hit - the extent of the hatred and evil behind these acts was almost tangible. It was as if the whole world was holding its' breath. I watched people jumping from both towers, I watched the firefighters and emergency personnel enter the buildings and I watched as the towers fell. You couldn't cry - it was just surreal - thousands of humans being butchered, and for what. Throughout the next few days I prayed continually that they would pull out just one more person alive but every day the chances of that happening disappeared. I will never forget the events of 9/11 and I thinbk the world needs to remember - especially for all those people who lost their lives simply because they went to work. I made a little private vow - if I am ever in a situation like that I want to emulate those people who were on the flight that crashed in Philadelphia - "Lets Roll"! and put an end to cowering before international terrorism! Tell us your story: I was commuting to work in Washington and had just passed the Pentagon when I heard on the radio that the first tower had been hit, and then the second. I thought immediately of the Hindenberg disaster as the radio eyewitness kept saying "Oh my god, O,my gog." I was at my desk, working on a daily news fax I produce when I heard that the Pentagon had been hit. My office is two blocks from the White House, so every time we heard a loud noise, a helicopter or figher jet, we wondered if more planes were on the way. My co-workers and I heard that the Shanksville plane might be headed Washington's way and that fighters had been scrambled, so we greeted its crash with a mixture of emotions. My brother had just moved into his new office in the Pentagon. He had been in the Gulf War and Bosnia, so we were pleased he was in a safe posting. In fact, his office was hit and many co-workers killed instantly. Though thrown from his chair by the concussion, he was unhurt (saved by a reinforced cubicle wall) and managed to escape with several of his office mates. I knew none of this as I worked to collect news for my fax newletter (all, it turns out, related to 9/11) and placed calls to my family for word of my brother. I also talked with my boss, who had come down from New York that day for a conference. His brother, it turned out, worked on an upper floor of the World Trade Center,his foot in a cast from a previous injury and thus with limited mobility. For hours we had no word from, or about, either, so we hoped for the best but feared the worst. His brother, too, miraculously survived.
