I put on the coffee, grabbed the paper from the day before, and sat down in front of the tv to start my day. gotta have my news. I wasn't prepared for what I was about to see. I have direct tv, and my abc, cbs, nbc and fox, come out of New York. No sooner Had I turned on my TV, there was a news break. Plane hits WTC....I couldn't believe what i was seeing. How could a pilot be so stupid, I asked myself. Like he didn't see them comming! I watched in disbelief, fire comming from what seemd to be about 10 story's. Those poor people. They didn't even know what hit them. All I kept thinking was, that stupid ass pilot. What was he, drunk or something. How do you just slam into a building? i hope they sue the hell out of that airline. Then the unthinkable happened. Another plane, hit the other tower! As i watched the clip, i new this was no accident. My heart felt like it was going to pop right out of my chest. For the first time in my life, i felt scared. How could somethig like this happen. This is the United States of America! Who could be so stupid? I watched in horror as the events unfolded. Seeing people jump to their death. GOD help us! All of those people in those building! I knew there was no way for all of them to get out. Now, my heart was in my throat. I couldn't swallow or nothing. I went into shock... By this time, they were telling us about the people in the planes. How they must of felt, seeing those buildings headed their way. Suddenly, my eyes started to swell, and the tears started flowing. Uncontrolably, i sat and cried. Something I hadn't done since I lost my dad to cancer in 1991. Now, anger was setting in. Kill all of the bastards. Whipe them right off the map. Cowards. Face us like men. I couldn't believe how I was feeling. I have always been a loving person. I didn't know what hate was. Saddly, I do now. Please lord, forgive me. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: On 9/11, where was I on the day when time seemed to stand still and the face of the nation was changed forever? I had just dropped off my two oldest children at school and had returned home. Upon getting out of their car seats and entering our home, my two youngest children and I proceeded to spend a little quality time playing with a variety of toys. After a while, I excused myself to the dining table to catch a bite of breakfast and a cup of coffee. On went the television, in order for me to catch up on a little of the latest news. Nothing could've prepared me for what I witnessed next. There in front of me was the pictures of the two planes crashing into the World Trade Center. As the news unfolded, I began to learn of the other two plane crashes as well. I experienced a multitude of emotions at that moment, from utter shock, to anger, to sorrow and ultimately forgiveness. I ran to the children I had home with me and held them tight, glad to have them with me during this time, and all the while offering a prayer of healing for the victims and those they left behind, as well as a prayer of forgiveness for those who caused such a catastrophic event. From this moment, until now, and into the future, this day will remain a time for me to reflect up all those whose lives have been changed dramatically by these course of events. Debbie, our assistant entered my operatory and told us that the first Twin Tower had been hit by an airplane. I remember that she asked us : ?Do you think it?s an accident?? I felt with a horrible certainty that it hadn?t been an accident, and told her so. Deb made two more trips into my room, each one with a new tale of a plane crash. The two towers and the Pentagon had been hit. A plane was missing. No one knew where the President was. The staff and patients all crowded into our conference room to watch our tiny TV. The reception was bad, and it seemed to add to the unreality of the images that were being televised. I wanted to cry, and couldn?t. I knew I should be frightened, horrified and grief-stricken, but I couldn?t feel a thing, just a numbness. All I wanted was answers, and of course at that time there weren?t any. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I remember my Mother calling my house and waking my husband. She told him that an airplane hit one of the WTC towers. We both went back to sleep thinking it was a small passenger plane. When I woke up, I went downstairs. My husband should have left for work at that time but he was sitting in front of the television and watching the news. I asked him what was going on. He told me what had happened. My husband said, "I was told not to go to work for security reasons and the city I grew up in has been attacked". We live in Arizona but my husband was born and grew up in Queens, New York. I can't say the name of the company he worked for at that time, here in Arizona, due to privacy and security. The thing I remember the most was watching television and seeing the people jumping and falling from the burning buildings of the WTC Towers. Then I remember watching the people on the street who saw the people falling from the buildings, and watching the mortified looks on their faces. My husband and his mother both worked in the WTC buildings when they lived in New York. The absolute worst part of it was getting the call from my husband's sister, telling us that someone my husband knew was in one of the towers when it collapsed. He was a police officer and was in one of the WTC Towers when it collapsed. He did not survive. I remember being glued to the television for about 3 months after the attacks and then I had to stop watching for awhile. I went to work on the day of the attacks and it was so strange not hearing planes fly over the place where I worked. It was scary because it was so quiet. I didn't really get any work done that day. It seemed the whole world was sitting in front of the television that day no matter where they were. I have heard that anyone who was killed in the attacks on 9/11/01 have their cause of death filled in as homicide on their death certificate. We need to remember that ALL of these people were murdered. I watched the attacks on television last night (9-11-02). I sobbed all over again and the pain has not lessened at all. I remember perfectly well where I was and what I was doing in the city the day of the first attack in 1993. I was 9 years old and the fear I felt about where my Dad was consumed me. But eventually my dad was injured in the line of duty and he retired to a small farm-town in Vermont. So on the morning of September 11th, 2001 I was a senior, sitting in my first period Advanced Placement American Goverment Class. When the class was interrupted by another teacher entering to tell the students that a plane had crashed into the World Trade Center, I was overcome again with fear. When the events of the day unfolded even more, it became clear just how much my life would change because of this attack. Cell phones weren't working and therefore I couldn't call my family to see if my pregnant cousin and her husband had made it out of their offices in both towers. And I watched in horror as I watched the towers fall, knowing that I had just seen the police officers, port authority officers and firefighters running into those very same buildings. I didn't know how many of my friends from back home had just lost their father's from the precint. How many little daddy's girls like myself were watching their father be taken from them. When I got home later that afternoon, I met my Dad on the front porch and gave him the biggest embrace to this day. I cried and thanked God that my Father wasn't there that day. If he hadn't been hurt just a short while before, he would have been at Ground Zero that day. Sometimes, what seems like a setback or punishment is really a blessing in disguise. My heart is with each and every child who lost their parent that day in the line of duty. Your mom and dad are HEROES and you should be so very proud to call yourself their child. I was in the hotel with fellow associates and watching CNN as the 2nd plane hit. I will never forget that for the rest of my life. My parents who also live in Naples Florida and my father who has been a crane operator (belonging to Local 14) his whole life heard about the tragic events and my mother and himself packed the car in a couple of hours and drove to New York and my Dad was at Ground Zero within a few days of 9/11 operating the largest crane in the United States to clean up the mess. She is an airline attendant for American Airlines. As we watched in horror together, we both reliezed that could have been her flight. At first it seemed as though it was an accident, then when the second plane hit, we both reliezed it was a hijacking. I stood in amazement, shaking, and thanking God that Cynthia was not on any of the planes. All I could do was cry and pray for those that were killed for no reason. Tell us your story: I was sitting there at my computer when my friend yelled to me, "Did you hear about the plane that crashed into the World Trade Center?" I said no, got up and looked on his laptop. He had CNN's webpage with the picture of tower 1 and the smoke pouring from it. My first question was "Was it a terrorist?" Then the phones started ringing. All the websites were down. We turned on news radio and listened as the Pentagon was hit and the second tower also being hit. I remeber the anger and sadness as I listened to the reporters describing the towers as they fell. I called home to NJ where all my friends and family live. Most of the phone lines were down. I was able to get in touch with my mother-in-law and father-in-law and my one friend. We were highly upset because we didn't know where two of our friends who worked in the city were. As the day progressed I learned everyone I knew that was in the city was ok. I remember everything about that day: what I wore, what I ate, what I did after work. I watched Peter Jennings on ABC for hours and hours, feeling helpless because my wife and I were 640 miles away from home. I saved all the e-mails I received, and all the papers I could get. Tell us your story: I make an hour long commute to school on Tuesdays and Thursdays and was in my car, listening to a CD, singing along at the top of my lungs, hurrying to make it over to school on time. When I pulled into the parking lot, I noticed that there weren't a lot of cars there, which was strange. As I walked into the science building, I saw a television set that was tuned into the news. That's where I first learned about the attacks on the WTC. I can remember sitting through my first class, feeling numb. While there was no lesson that day, our teacher let us stay to talk about the events and to watch the news. I remember that everything felt like it was a dream, a sick, horrible dream that I couldn't shake. People around me were crying, worrying over loved ones that lived in New York. I just felt numb. Being in the midwest, I felt like I was safe, like my family was safe. I still feared for friends that lived in New York and the Washington D.C. area, but I never felt like I wasn't safe. I remember that I felt guilty that I was feeling secure when there were others that didn't have that luxury. Other people just like me were gone forever and no one could give a good reason why. A year later, I still cry when I hear stories of those that lost their lives, of the children that were born without their fathers, of the women that lost their husbands and fiancees, of the parents that lost children. Tell us your story: That morning from about 9 AM to 1 PM, I became transfixed in one position on my sofa by the images that horrified me with immediate thoughts about our country's loss of innocence. It saddened me to think how many children had just lost a parent and how that loss would impact their lives for years to come. I cried that day for them and every day for over a month and on the anniversary, the emotions returned full force with thoughts of the magnitude of the loss for the thousands who knew or loved those who died that day. Even in my tears and sorrow on September 11, 2001, I knew that I needed to write down my thoughts and feelings. I needed for my children and grandchildren, yet to be born, what that day meant to me. This is what I wrote: My Dear Loved Ones, Today I witnessed the most terrifying event in modern America, one that will never be forgotten. Let me say that inspite of the hate that it took to bring this event to our shores, the love we have for our country will make us stronger. Remember that love is the greatest gift that you can give to family and country. I want to let you know that today I changed. By the end of this day it was clear to me that for the rest of my life, my work would need to have purpose and direction. I was watching it live on TV as it was all happening. I was shocked and in disbelief. Shortly after I recieved information that my dad and some coworkers had left to go to a price waterhouse meeting in the towers at the time it happened. I broke down crying, fearing for my dad. Thank the creator he chose not to go that day because of stuff he needed to get done. Unfortunatly his coworkers were not as lucky. As far as I know, some died on one of the planes that crashed into the towers. And some died in the building where the meeting was being held. A friend of mine lost a cousin in this event. And another person my family knows lost a brother. The terrorists are cowards to attack the inocent. I am currently getting ready to join the united states army to defend america. Tell us your story: I am only 13 and in the 7th grade... on that day i was in my history class when a teacher ran into the room crying and asked not so calmly if my teacher could turn the T.V. on she explained that he husband was in the WTC. At the time no one in the room knew what was going on. As the T.V. came on we saw them replaying the plane going into the tower it was the second plane. I was terrified and began to cry because my dad was in NYC working very near the WTC that day. I just couldnt stop crying. Then i heard about the Pentagon next on the news... my dads roomate worked there and hes a very close family friend so again i was terrified. I went through the whole day crying and worrying. I remember one of my friends came up to me and said "this is so funny" that just made me tick, i couldnt take it so i snapped, i screamed back at her "How is this funny, we are under attack, thousands are going to die?!?!" I was so mad at her... needless to say i am not her friend anymore. Later in the day i was called to the office, as i walked there it seemed that it took me hours, as i worried what the news would be; was my dad okay? or was he dead? when i got up there i saw my mom and i went home. I was in such shock. I immediately made a memorial thing and it rests at the Pentagon right now. forever i will remember this and i pray for the lives of our brave U.S soldiers over seas and the Northern Alliance. My deepest regrets go out to the familys that lost people that day. Luckily no one i know died. However one of my friends mothers was on the flight that crashed into the pentagon, she is dead... and there still is no sign of the teachers husband. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I was flying with my eight year old son back home to Cleveland from our vacation in Ecuador. On our flight to Miami, just south of Cuba, the pilot came on the p.a. system and informed us that "something terrible had happened in the U.S." and that our flight was immediately being diverted to Grand Cayman Island. I was paged in the Grand Cayman airport. Our travel agent had somehow tracked us down. She was the one who told me what had happened in New York and Washington and Pennsylvania. And when she started telling me about the planes flying into the World Trade Center, I started shaking and I couldn't stop and I could barely hold the phone. We spent four days in Grand Cayman before we could get a flight out and then spent another two days trying to get home from Miami. But we made it home. I saved our plane tickets that were dated September 11, 2002 for my son. Someday I think he'll realize what a trip we had. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: The morning of September 11th started just as any other day for me. I woke up at 5:30 AM, Mountain time. As my father drove me to school,we hit Evans street, and I turned up the radio in our truck, and could hear our two favorite radio shock jocks. They were talking about "getting the air force up in there". I didn't understand the situation, and so I settled back and enjoyed the ride, thinking these two were just joking around as usual. Once I got to school, the focus was on Ed McCaffrey, who had been injured in a football game the night before. As we somberly shuffled into class, I remember people being a little on edge. The T.V. in the room was turned on at some point, and we looked at a vision of horror. I remember that a couple of kids were laughing, saying "it was cool" how the buildings were burning. We told them to quiet down, as our algebra teacher tried to get us to focus on our work. I figured that this was history in the making, and should be the real focus. I kept watching the T.V., and others joined in. I remember thinking how I wanted to do something, and to talk to my parents about what was going on. We went from class to class, watching the television, horrified. Once I made it to my last period, the teacher thought we had watched enough, and turned it off. We were in utter shock, and were scared. It came across the radio and I didn't believe what I was hearing so I called the office from my cell phone. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: On September 10th, 2001 I made my first move away from home from Cincinnati to Boston by car in one day. (I had recently been transferred by an international airline) Around dinnertime I was stuck in the God Awful New York traffic on an empty stomach when the twin towers came into view. My Boyfriend harassed me to dig for my camera that was hidden in one of the suitcases thrown disorderly in the back. After ten whole seconds of effort I snapped "It's no big deal.... they'll be there tomorrow. It's not like we won't see them again". The next day, September 11th, was supposed to be my first day of work. At 9:00 AM the telephone rang which I assumed was my wake-up call an hour earlier than I had asked for. I yelled "Call me in an hour" in the phone and went back to bed. The phone rang again and the meek voice of a family member asked me to turn on my television. I think that everyone else can imagine what I saw. For two weeks I tried to go to the airport in a cloud of confusion to be refused entry. When I was finally allowed in no new badges were issued. Without being able to work at the gates I was assigned the task of sending flowers to United and American, Organizing the signing of sympathy cards and apologizing to hundreds of people anxious to return home with no flights. One of my co-workers lost his roommate who was a flight attendant on United Flight 175. At first I could only realize the deaths of 2801 innocent people as a devastatingly cruel loss. After seeing millions of people united in recovery, overflowing with patriotism, motivated in hope unable to do anything but appreciate the most wonderful things in life that we once took for granted I now realize that September 11th has only been our gain. 2801 people lost their lives and gave meaning to the lives of 284,796,887 others. Even in my new office with 15 shades of skin, 15 different ethnic backgrounds, a cornucopia of religions, languages, economic backgrounds and moral beliefs we are all united as Americans. On the anniverssary of the attacks, I organized a moment of silence at 9:59 AM (The time the first tower fell) out of respect for the victims, the heroes and my 284,796,887 brothers and sisters who I will continue to make a conscious effort to respect, love unbiased and appreciate. I invite anyone else who wants to take a moment to remember every year on the anniversary to join me.
