Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: Still etched in my mind is how deep blue the sky was that morning. It was my first day back to the office after a 10 day vacation. I was happy with the way things were going in my life and even considered my self fortunate. Getting settled in my office that morning in Jersey City (along the water), I placed a call to someone in my IT group about a problem with my PC. The response I got was a calm but eerie "forget about that, come into my office and look out the window; a plane just crashed into the WTC). We did not immediately know what type of plane had hit so we turned on the TV to see what was going on. The news was getting conflicting versions at first. We continued to watch out the our window facing downtown. Someone was passing around binoculars. I remember saying "why aren't the sprinklers putting that fire out?". I would realize later that any water supply would have been severed but the impact of that plane and even if it was functioning could never compete with the flames of burning jet fuel. The fire was growing larger and the smoke billowed high above the tower. I watched the flames grow as I viewed through the binoculars. As I passed the binoculars to someone, I noticed something coming from what looked like the direction of South Ferry an airplane; moving faster than anything I'd ever seen before. My first thought was it had to be the Air Force coming in for a close look. As it got closer, we all realized in horror that it was a passenger jet. There was nothing said..............maybe 20 of us stood there just saying one word....................'no'. What we saw from the Jersey City side was the plane hit and flames flickered through I guess about 3 - 4 floors of the South tower. The entire floors taken out from one side to the other. Something shot out of the northern side of the South tower like fireworks but it may have been a piece of the plane .A few seconds later you could see all the smoke from the impact. At that point we all realized that terrorists that wanted to see the WTC destroyed in 1993 had finally did some incredible damage. We evacuated the building but continued to watch from the ground. That deep blue sky was now filled with the smoke; dark, thick and filled with death. I thought maybe they can rebuild those upper floors......still not grasping what was about to unfold. When the south tower collapsed, the scene on the waterfront was like that of an old Godzilla movie; people running in all directions and screaming 'it's falling, the towers are falling". The sound was something that will never leave me; cement just slapping down, a horrible reverberation and then ..................silence. I couldn't breathe from fear. An F15 (or F16) flew over and the sound was enormous. I thought it was another plane coming for our building (The Newport Tower; one of the highest buildings on the waterfront). I froze in terror. A hotdog vendor had an AM radio tuned into 1010 WINS or 88 and they were telling us things we could not fathom. A plane had hit the Pentagon and there were 8 planes unaccounted for. Nothing was out of the question anymore and anything could happen. Growing up in Staten Island, I remember the towers being built. My Dad would take me down to St. George to view. It was surreal to see only one tower standing and all this smoke around it. When the second tower went down, it felt like the world had changed completely for me. It took hours to get out of the Jersey City area. Fortunately a great co-worker offered me a ride home. I could not call my wife because there was no phone service. I have to travel downtown occasionally so of course she was worried. When the second tower came down, all I saw was smoke ....................nothing else. No buildings could be seen from about 14th Street down to South Ferry. I thought of all my friends that worked in the towers and the surrounding area. I figured they would all be lost. The smoke lasted for days and on Wednesday we started to smell the acrid stench in Middletown. When I finally got in touch with a very close friend on who works on the Cotton Exchange on Tuesday evening, I yelled at him for not calling right away. I finally broke down and cried. I realized that there were so many others that were lost. I don't remember what day it was, maybe Thursday or Friday I went into the office. I picked up the Daily News and read something about how Cantor Fitzgerald had lost an incredible amount of people. I remembered a close friend whom I had lost touch with worked there. I never knew Cantor was in WTC. I still miss him now. He was an incredibly good influence on my life and I'm sorry to this day that I never made amends. I cannot believe that a year has almost passed. This morning in Hoboken, the magazines are all blaring with covers "9/11....one year later". I can't look at it. I still remember the missing people fliers posted all over Hoboken and downtown. It seems like last week to me. God bless all the families and friends of those lost that day. It is a great tragedy that these people were taken from us. My friend from Cantor leaves behind 2 beautiful children and a wonderful wife. He is just one of so many. The firefighters and policeman that I grew up with in Staten Island. Quite a few of them went to Susan E. Wagner High School with me. One firefighter was a neighbor in Staten Island.............they are all great heroes. I realized when i was in third period at Bellevue Junior high in Bellevue, Ohio. When i realized that the World Trade Center got hit by planes and how many people died that all brought me to tears. I woke up Tuesday September 11, 2001 and logged onto AOL to check my email. That is when I saw that the World Trade Center had been hit by a plane. I figured it was a twin-engine plane or something of that nature. An accident. However, I was wrong. It was TERRORISM. I was very shaken up. I was in tears and couldn't tear myself from the news. I tried to contact my loved ones, however cell phones were not working that day. I couldn't get through to my family. It was an emotional day. I was drained. By about 1:30 pm I settled down in my living room. I called out of work and closed my eyes, and finally went to sleep. My home phone rang around 2:00pm. It was my Aunt Cindy in Colorado. She told me my Grandmother had died of a heart attack! I was devastated. I was very close to my grandmother. The onsite nurse had found her in her apartment around 9:20 am. She was lying on the floor with her television remote control in her hand. CNN was on. My Grandmother was an avid CNN watcher. I know she had a heart attack as a result of what she watched on tv that morning. I am sure others have loved ones who passed in a similar way. My condolences go out to ALL families who lost a loved one on 9/11. I will never forget that day as long as I live. My gradmother is missed and I think of her EVERY day!!!!!!! Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: This really isn't my story at all. It is my mother's. But yoiu'll never hear her tell it. She is a survivor of 9/11. It scares me to say that. I almost lost the single most important person in my life at the time. My grandmother and I were in Phoenix, AZ we were awaiting the arrival of movers who would be there in a few days to pack our things in a big moving truck. We were moving to NYC. My mother recieved a great job offer in NYC in the World Trade Center. She had to start early. She flew to NYC and started working the week before. She would call every day and tell how beautiful it was to see the Statue of Liberty from her office and how she could see practically the entire city from one side from her building. On September 11, 2001 I woke up at 6 am to get ready for school. My grandmother is normally already up and watching the TV. I turned the radio on to listen to the morning news before school. "Breaking News", the radio announcer said, "the World Trade Center is on fire!" I ran out of my room and out into the living room where I expected to see it on tv but for some reason my grandmother didn't have the tv on. I screamed "TURN THE TV ON!!!!!!" She didn't know and was worried. There is was, smoke arising from one of the buildings. We didn'd know which building my Mother was in. Then a few moments later we saw the second plane coming for the second tower. When it hit my grandmother dropped on the couch and started to cry. We tryed calling my Mother but all the lines were dead. Then, what seemed to be a few minutes later, the second tower fell. Then the first, and still no word from my Mother. Finally the phone rang, but it was just people calling worried about Mom. My friend came from school and spent the day with me. Four hours later, a phone call from my hysterical Mother broke my solid grandmother into tears. My mother's building started to be evacuated when the first tower was hit but then they told the people inside that it as okay to go back to their offices. My mother, a smoker, decided to go have a cigarette. On her way down the 2nd set of elevators her floor was hit by a plane flown by a mad terrorist. She was in shoke and some people she had just met a week earlier had died. This haunts my Mother to this day and I have never again said anything negative about her smoking. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: My radio clock alarm went off with a blare of noise. It was 7:30 a.m. in Chico, CA. Then I heard people crying on the radio. I heard terror and horror in their voices. "A second plane has crashed into the Twin Towers!!!" "What the...?," I thought groggily. My first thought was that someone on the radio was pulling an Orson Welles "War of the Worlds" radio report, and I was angry at them. The anger woke me up. I didn't hear any laughing at the joke they were pulling on us. I flew out of bed and ran downstairs, turning on CNN. The towers were in flames, people were jumping out of the building. I couldn't pull myself away. My youngest daughter, Sari, with her boyfriend, John, right behind her, came flying downstairs, yelling at me to turn on CNN. I already had. We stood there silently, our horror growing, tears running down our faces. My oldest daughter, Lucia, came running downstairs holding her 7-month-old son, Kieran. A friend had called her, telling her something horrible was happening in New York City and she needed to turn on the TV. Downstairs, she found us in front of the TV. We all stood there, Sari, John, Lucia, Kieran, and I, not believing our eyes. Then we exploded into action. Sari and Lucia tried to call their brother, Chris, who lived up the mountain. He needed to know about his Dad. They also tried to call their Dad, Wali, who was supposed to be working on the 109th floor that week, something to do with construction. John was trying to call his Dad in Wisconsin. His Dad was supposed to be on one of the top floors (I think the 104th) that Tuesday in some business meeting. Couldn't get through. Of course, we couldn't get through. I got ready for work, Sari got ready for school. But we all kept coming back to the TV, flipping through the channels from CNN to ABC to NBC to CBS to find out what was going on. We just didn't know the extent of anything. Meanwhile, everyone kept trying the phone. John was the first to find out his Dad had decided not to go that week. His Dad usually went to New York City once a week for business meetings at the Twin Towers. But something had told him not to go and so he decided to stay in Wisconsin that week. But my kids still hadn't found anything out. It had been two hours and we still couldn't get through. They tried their Aunt Mary and Uncle Rob. Rob is their father's oldest brother and the union rep for their father's local union. But no one was home. They left a message and tried their father's number again. The lines were down again. Sari and I left for work and school. I work on the California State University,Chico campus and Sari has classes at CSU,Chico. I told her I wasn't staying, just going in to let everyone know I couldn't stay. I was in shock and I knew it because I was doing irrational things like driving to work instead of calling, when part of me was shouting to myself, "Stay home and off the streets, stupid!!!" She said that she wouldn't stay also, just run into class, and let the professor know she couldn't be there today. Inside the office, no one seemed to know what had happened. I mentioned that the Twin Towers and the Pentagon had been attacked. Only one person there had heard the news before she had left home for work. But the others could see my face. I told my boss that I would not be staying and I mentioned to everyone there, including the customers (two independent archaeologists and one California Department of Fire and Forestry archaeologist) that everyone should go home today and stay glued to the TV. Something very horrible and very historic was happening to our country. And that they should all be at home off the streets in case the emergency vehicles needed the roads. We were bystanders and the best place for all of us were at home. But they only looked at me as if I was overreacting. And I didn't care. Perhaps they didn't have any family in New York, so what was happening was remote to them, but it was not remote to me. I had lived in NYC for years, I remembered my kids' dad working on the twin towers in 1972. I remembered the twin towers when they were new and now they had tumbled down. It was too horrible for words. All those people, in the buildings, in the planes. It was too hard to talk about, so I said goodbye, picked up Sari, and went home. By then it was 11 a.m. California time, 2 p.m. in New York. As I was leaving, the coordinator for my office came in and told my boss, the assistant coordinator, that she should close the office and go home, and he told the customers that they should also consider going home and staying off the streets until we all found out what was going on. Apparently, the campus administrators had closed the school and told everyone to go home and stay off the streets. So, some people in California were taking it seriously after all. Sari and I went home. Everyone was huddled around the TV, using the phone every few minutes to try and get through. We felt all alone in our suffering. Then we went outside the apartment and everyone else began to come out and congregate in the courtyard, looking stunned. We spent a lot of time outside, all of us, talking, being together, but leaving the tvs on. Every now and then someone would run into their apartment to get an update. So many people in that complex had people in New York. We were all so far away and could do nothing. It was cathartic to share our fears, our sorrow, our helplessness, our shock with others. Finally, in the afternoon, Wali calls. He's alright. His crew was supposed to be there, but they got called off the job and posted to another job a few blocks away for that week. He and his crew had been in the twin towers the week before. But another metal lathers' crew had been sent instead of his crew, and Wali was in shock and sorrow for the men and women he thought had been killed. It had taken him all day to get home. He had walked out of the chaos, and kept walking until he could find transportation to his apartment on Cabrini Boulevard, located at the other end of Manhattan Island from the Twin Towers. He found out later that the other crew had made it out. It was unbelievable! Yet it still hurt that others had died instead. Other family members in New York were also okay. No one we knew was there. Or so we thought. Several days later Lucia finds out that one of her friends, Amy, was across the street from the towers when the second plane hit and the blast threw her back into the building behind her. She was there with the coroner's office to help. She came away bruised and shaken, but she lived! I stayed in front of the TV late into the night. It was hard to sleep. I couldn't get the images of people jumping to their deaths to avoid the greater pain inside the building. A choice, a hard choice, a choice that left no options for life, only a choice to avoid the greater pain of the moment. A choice I hoped I would never have to make. And I was afraid of having to wake up again to something horrific. It took several months for the fear of this to go away. To this day, almost a year later, it is hard for me to think about last September 11. I still cry at all that pain that people in New York, Washington, DC, and on the planes endured, and the ones left behind that are still enduring. And I worry about my family flying back and forth from New York to California, and vice versa. It is now 4 years later and we are recalling what our class was doing on that day. We were in Mrs. Resitvo's, Mrs. Leapglow's, of Mrs. Seighbor's 4th grade classrooms. Some of the classes continued with their regular work, but others watched the news on Tv that day. Some of us watched the president that night on T.V. We remember after school people going to WalMart stocking up on things and buying flags. We also remember the gas lines at the gas stations. My eldest daughter called saying "Mom, turn on the tv quick." Before my eyes was a burning skyscraper. I couldn't believe it was the World Trade Center. Then I saw the second plane hit and was in disbelief. My daughter called back and told me the Pentagon was hit and there was a car bomb at the State Department(which proved not to be true). Now I was shaking, because my husband works at the State Department. Fortunately my husband called and said the car bomb was a rumor but he definitely had to get out of D.C. He was going to take the subway to Springfield VA and I would pick him up. Well the subway dumped its passengers out at the Pentagon! Tell us your story: My husband and I were on vacation at his parents home in North Canton, Ohio,on September 11, 2001, we reside in Del Rio, Texas. We had just finished breakfast and I was on the computer in the Den, when my mother in law stated that an airplane had just crashed into the World Trade Center. She was watching a television on the kitchen counter. I thought it was strange, so I turned off the computer and went into the living room, to turn on the big screen television. I watched the first of the towers burning, and I called upstairs to my husband and asked him to come down and watch with us. All three of us, stood there as we saw the second airplane hit the second tower. I was in total shock, and we knew that it was not an air accident! Our plans were to return home by way of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the following day, where we planned to visit with my sons. I am a federal law enforcement officer, a Supervisory Customs Inspector and I began to wonder how this would affect my office and our operations. I could not leave the television set, I saw the two towers fall and people running and screaming. The entire day was full of accounts from all aspects. We also heard that a cellular phone call had been made from a third plane to a spouse, stating that the aircraft had been hijacked and that passengers had a plan to overcome the hijackers. We also heard that the plane was aimed at the White House in Washington, D. C. We heard that there was a fire at the Pentagon. I felt so sure that we would be immediately plunged into a war! The day went on, with accounts of injuries and deaths, which were reported in the thousands of lives. The day went on and my brother in law called and said that he had heard that gasoline stations were taking advantage of the incident and raising their prices. We heard that as much as $8.00 a gallon was being charged. Due to the fact that we were so far from home and we still planned to drive to Baton Rouge, Louisiana before we went home to Texas, I worried about the gasoline prices. I also worried that perhaps credit cards would not be accepted and we had planned to use our gasoline credit cards. My husband and I went out that evening to service our car and found that lines went around corners to get gasoline and at some pumps, the pumps would be dry by the time the cars would get up to them. I suggested to my husband that we should go to an ATM (Automated Teller Machine) at a bank and withdraw the maximum allowed, $300.00 each, from each of our bank accounts, just in case, credit cards were refused. We did service the car that night and the price was reasonable. We did wait a long time in line but we did get the gasoline. When we were at the ATM, I was a little on nerve, thinking that persons might be over reacting and that we might be held up at the ATM, by a thief, but we were not. Thanks to the good Lord! That night, I cried thinking that we might not be able to go to Louisiana, to see my sons, because of the gasoline prices, or due to what might be happening politically. My husband, stated, we do not have to decide until we get to Tennessee, so maybe we will find that we can continue on South to Louisiana. This gave me hope. We did not have any problems, we did make it to Louisiana safely and without incident. I had badgered my husband to put a ten CD changer in our car, because the car only had a one CD player. This was in vain, because, all the way home, I was constantly changing radio stations, looking for news of what was happening in the world. On the road, we found some cities, holding fund raisers for victims of the WTC, and we contributed. When we arrived home, everyone, was looking for American flags as were we and we could not find one. I grew angry that we were not reacting immediately by declaring war on whoever was at fault, but I continued to trust our President and our government. I still do. I remember haveing a strange feeling that morning and not wanting to go to school but as any other parent would have done, my mother sent me any ways. It is kind of funny because the class I had first period was U.S. History. I remember our Princible comeing over the entercome and tell all teachers with T.V.s to turn them on to the news, and others to go to the media center. He didn't say why though and I remember thinking that was very weird! So when the teacher turned on the news it was just in time for us to see the second plain crash! I don't think It realy sunk in at first about how terible this was. I had been in the school choir for three years, and the year befor all this happend my school had been selected to sing in the national youth choir there at N.Y. We stayed at the Mariot Hotel right there at the Twin Towers. Of course as your know, it burned up. We had to change classes and as I was going to second period all of this was going through my mind! Then we found out about the Pentagon and the other plain crash. I was so scard that Fort Bragg was next because I only live about 20-30 min.from there. As all of this was going on people were crying, hugging, and calling family. My sister-in-law had just had a baby and where home alone. My mom called the school to talk to me and make sure I was O.K. and then had me released from school so I could go and make sure my sister-in-law was O.K. I had the small t.v. on in our kitchen to catch the weather report...I never caught the weather report that day. The images of those planes hitting the world trade center had to be the scariest thing I have ever seen. Then the report of the Pentagon being hit. My husband, Steve, is in the Air Force Reserves, and after what I had just witnessed, I knew that we would be affected by it. No, we don't live in NY or DC, but we were going to be a part of all of this craziness, because I knew it had to be a terrorist attack. My son was intrigued by what we were seeing, but was still young enough to not be emotionally devastated by it, but I did explain that some bad guys flew those planes into those buildings. After I got him off to school, I left the house with my, then, 2 year old son. I had to leave, as our phone was ringing off the hook, people were stressed out, wanting to know if my husband would have to be deployed...but, I couldn't answer their questions, and I was trying to remain calm, for my kids mainly...it was very difficult. I wanted to go to NY and DC and help, but knew that wasn't feasible. I felt helpless, and wondered if anything else would happen. My husband was called to Active Duty, not immediately after the incidents, but later in 2002...he was gone to 2 different areas of the Middle East, and although that is one of the most stressful things we have ever had to endure, he or I wouldn't have done it any other way. He is a very proud American and I am very proud of him...and so are our 2 young sons. They were such good little troopers when he was gone, I am very blessed. To all the families who lost loved ones, I am sorry for you from the bottom of my heart...it was devastating. I can only imagine the sadness and disbelief you must have felt and still be feeling. I hope all of you are able to make sense of this life and keep on going...I know it can't be easy for you. I am grateful to have my husband back home for the time being, safe and sound...but please know this...with people like him in the military, your loved ones lives won't have been lost in vain...he will more than likely be going back over there, and we will be supportive of whatever he does. You didn't know the danger your loved ones were going into that day, but we know when he leaves on an airplane to go over there, he is in the face of danger. Anybody who was anybody went to "Windows on the World". I never could have imagined its fate. Fortunately for me, when 9/11 happened, I did not know that one of my dearest friends was supposed to be teaching a class on the 103rd Floor of Tower 2. I later found out that he had called a cab to take him to the train station in New Jersey and the cab never showed up. After expressing his anger to the cab company, he walked to the train station and caught the third train instead of the first, which was his usual schedule. While he was on that train coming from NJ, he saw the first, then the second plane hit the towers. He lost many people that day - all of students in his class and many coworkers. As for me, in addition to the horror that we all felt and witnessed, I felt a more personal stab in my heart because they hit my home town and they nearly killed my dear friend. They may have killed other people that I knew but still don't know about their passing. This still haunts me. And I never did make it to "Windows on the World". Tell us your story: It was a beautiful, hectic morning as I had taken the day off and was dropping my two-year old daughter, Kayla, off at school so that I could begin my day of errands. When I arrived at Kayla's school, it seemed like a normal Tuesday with teachers scurrying about and assisting those parents running late for work. As I made my way to the administrator's office to drop off paperwork, I heard someone state that a plane had lost control and hit one of the World Trade Centers. My immediate response was to pray, and I attributed the incident to a malfunction with the plane, but little did I know. As I left my daughter at her school, I got in my car, turned on the radio, and began to make my way through the city to my bank in Crystal City ? one of the first errands on my list. While listening intensely to the radio to find out more about this incident, traffic did not seem to bother me. As I approached the 14th Street Bridge, I saw a huge ball of smoke hovering above the Pentagon. I don't recall hearing a plane or seeing one, but the tragedy must have just happened since the enormous, black ball of noxious fumes and smoke was only a few feet above the Pentagon and rising. I wondered what was going on in DC. Bewildered, I continue to listen to the radio and asking aloud: ?What?s going on in DC?? Yet, nothing was mentioned. I passed by the horrific sight and made my way to the bank ? more or less on autopilot. When I reached the teller, I asked if she knew what was going on at the Pentagon and informed her of the sight that I had seen. The bank employee only knew that a plane had hit one of the World Trade Center towers. She then stated that a loud noise was heard but she was not sure of its origin. All the teller knew was that she was ready to leave due to the pensive state of all around her. For some odd reason I thought that I would get a better handle on the events from my bank since it is a Naval institution. Unfortunately, I believe I had a better grasp of what was going on than they did, which didn?t say much since I was still baffled. As I left the bank, I rushed to my car and turned on the radio to learn of any events that I may have missed, and to see if any news had broken regarding the Pentagon. By this time, another plane had hit the second World Trade Center, and shock was setting in on the East Coast. All sorts of rumors were being announced on the radio: A plane was heading for DC; a plane had hit the White House; a plane had hit the Capitol. I didn't know what to believe. My thought was that it wasn't any of those places announced on the radio. It was the Pentagon!!! Or were the White House and the Capitol hit as well? WE ARE AT WAR, I thought. My mind immediately went to my daughter who was at school. I needed to get to her. We are under attack, and I have to protect her. Now in my car leaving my bank in Crystal City, there is traffic ? bumper-to-bumper traffic. I am now in a controlled state of panic. ?Keep calm,? is what I tell myself. I need to reach my daughter. As I continue to listen to the radio, traffic inches along. It seems as though I am watching a movie about ?D Day? or some other destructive scene. People seem to be moving in slow motion. I realize that everyone seems to be listening to the same thing that I am listening to: America being attacked!!! All of a sudden traffic seemed to be at a standstill. Everyone had a look of disbelief on his or her face. Then, the radio announced that one of the World Trade Centers had collapsed and was no more. Tears started to flow. "What can I do? Where can I go?" were the thoughts that started to flood my mind. As I looked at all of the cars standing still, no one seemed to say a thing. No one blew a horn, no one moved. Tears were streaming from all of the faces in the cars that surrounded me. A devastating vision now engulfed my mind. Traffic is at a complete halt as I have now made my way around the block and in front of the Pentagon City Mall. Will I ever reach my daughter? As traffic creeps along, I begin to notice the herd of the people crossing the field and parkway in a concerted effort to escape the smoke and debris of the Pentagon. Some are walking as others run, but all have a look of terror on their faces. I am speechless and thoughtless witnessing this exodus as they gather with those who are leaving the surrounding buildings. All seem unsure of what to do next. As I sit in traffic, I begin to plot my course back across the bridge to my daughter. My journey started at 8:15 AM with dropping my daughter at school. It is now 9:45 AM, and I am stuck; we are under attack; and I have not a clue what will happen next. It seems as though I sit in traffic listening to everything going on in NYC but no one knows the horror that Washington, DC and the Pentagon are facing. The radio is still broadcasting that the plane hit the Capitol and the White House. No one knows that those within the Pentagon are under attack. Minutes turn into hours of sitting and inching along. Police have closed off all bridges leading into DC. How will I ever get to my daughter, continuously plays in my mind as I meditate on what to do. Finally, there is a break in traffic and I am able to make a U-turn, but a roadblock prevents me from going back across the 14th Street Bridge. All traffic is being detoured onto Route One, which takes me farther away from where I need to go. As I drive along Route One, I desperately look for a place to make a U-turn, but all of the turn lanes are blocked. As I pass Washington National Airport, it is eerily empty due to everyone being evacuated. Since there was no place for the group of displaced people to go, everyone hurried across the airport parking lot, across the parkway as far away as they could go. Finally, the crowd of hundreds rest along the parkway on the grassy hillsides in a state of disbelief. As I continue down Route One in my pensive mode, I pass a car that is stuck on the median in its attempt to make a u-turn, and I begin to cry and pray: "Lord, help me to get to my child!!!" I continue further down Route One and see an opportunity to make a U-turn. I take it. I speed back towards 14th Street Bridge praying that the police have not blocked the exit ramp onto the bridge. The closer I get to the bridge I notice that the ramp is not blocked. I take the ramp and race across the bridge with the absence of any traffic as I thank God for the "way out." Finally, I make my way back to the school, and my stress level decreases somewhat. The school staff seemed to be in a state of disbelief. There is an atmosphere of stress and the teachers are trying their best to keep a smile on their faces as to not raise fright in the children. Yet I notice the tension, stress, anxiety, and fear present in the faces of all the parents as they arrive to gather their children. I know they are wondering the same thing as I: How do we explain this horrific chain of events to our children? Do we keep it from them? What do we say if they ask? Are we truly at war? What will be the next target? I pray they don?t ask, and I won?t tell. The teachers have done an excellent job shielding the little ones from these events, and maybe I could make it home without Kayla asking any questions. My repetitive silent prayer: ?Lord, help us!? continues to ring within my head as I journey through the rest of this day wondering what will happen next and what destruction awaits me when I turn on the television. I know reside in Venice Fl, but I am proud to say I was born in the greatest state in the world. I love this state and I still love the 110 stories those towers brought. And on September 11, the day of my mothers birthday was also the day it had chaned americans life and specifically a new yorkers life. Walking into class and seeing the Twin Towers with the smoke around it made me feel 2inches tall. That was one of many great landmraks of NYC. That is something I will miss for ever. The phone rang and I was in to big of a hurry to answer it in fear that I might be late to work. So, I just left in a hurry and when I got to work I realized that something was very wrong. Everyone was in a state of shock and did not really know what was happening. We started to listen to the radio and then we closed down our ofice and went home to our families. When I got home I started calling everyone I new and making sure that they were okay. I wanted people to know that I love them. This event has changed my life forever! In so many ways I can not even begin to explain. I am just so sorry for all of those people that lost loved ones in this terrible tragic event!!!! Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: September eleventh has drastically altered my life because as a result of the terrorist attacks my father lost his job. Because my father lost his job my family was left without a reliable source of income. Also, because of the fact that many airlines are now going bankrupt it is rather likely he will not get his job back and will be forced to take up a new trade. Another effect it has had is thatmy mother will have to begin working to support the rest of us. The final problem that has resulted because of September eleventh is that it is a day my family now hates. My mother does not like us leaving the house around this time and was even reluctant to let us go to school. Also, my sister also worried on and around September eleventh. In closing, September eleventh is did much harm to my family both directly and indirectly and each year we will eagerly await the thirteenth. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I live in Louisville, Ky. That day, i slept late. My husband got up early, He works 40 hr weekends so he's home during the week. He had not had the television on, and while he was on the computer, he was working on a photoshop project, so he had not yet connected to the internet. When i got up, i turned on the televison, so the kids could watch cartoons. We could see right away that something had happened. They were mentioning airport or airports, and I thought that something had happened at Louisville international. They said something that wasnt right, it didnt sound right. We had come into the middle of it all and couldnt figure out what was happening. I had my husband connect to the net and go to yahoo's front page. I was looking over his shoulder. I said, "no, no, no!!!" and just started bawling.. All those people. 50 thousand people in those towers. By the time i found out about it, it was already over, but the horror of it all was just as if i had been sitting in front of the television, watching it all happen. The irony was if i had gotten up early, I would have been able to; usually it was me who got up first, and the first thing i did was turn the tv or the computer on. I spent the day mostly in front of the television, i cried off and on all day.
