<text>I was getting ready for work when my husband came in and told me of reports of a small plane crashing into the World Trade Center. We turned on the TV and were watching the coverage of the first Tower when we saw the second plane crash into the second Tower. We both looked at each other and said, "These aren't accidents!" I finished getting ready for work while trying to catch any news on what exactly was happening. I felt numb. When I got on the road,I noticed that everyone seemed to have the same look on their face. No one seemed to be in a hurry like they usually are. When I got to work I turned on my radio to try to keep up with what was going on. It was difficult to focus on my work. I kept thinking about the people on the airplanes and in the Towers. I can only hope that they didn't have time to feel anything. Then came the reports of a plane crashing into the Pentagon and into the ground in Pennsylvania. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Then came the sound of the first Tower going down. I sat in my office and cried. It just didn't seem real, but I knew it was. When the second Tower came down, I cried again. Our corporate office in Dallas put out the word that if people were too overcome by the events that we should go home. I stayed for the remainder of the day. I watched the news from the moment I got home until late that night. I just couldn't look away. The terrorists who did this are cowards and I fully support President Bush in his efforts. Yesterday, 9/11/02, I saw the list of names of the victims in our local paper. It brought back all of those same feelings from last year. It also made me see the magnitude of this horrific crime. So many innocent people lost their lives for nothing. They are all heroes in my eyes.</text>

<text>I was getting ready for work in the morning and my husband, Jody, yelled for me to come look at the news. I could see a live picture of the World Trade Center with a gaping hole in it and fire and smoke billowing out of it. While the anchor person was describing what was happening, we watched the second plane hit the other tower. The anchor person couldn't talk straight. You could hear them saying "was that another plane?" and "what's going on with our machine, is it replaying?" and then realizing what was happening, "you have seen it live, another plane hit the World Trade Center". They showed people jumping from the buildings and you could hear the screaming. My husband and I cried for the people there. I told Jody that I wish we could help, because it wasn't going to be long before those buildings collapsed, with everyone in them.
It was only about two hours later that the first one did collapse. It was an amazing, astonishing, horrifying sight. Smoke and dust everywhere, people on fire, running through the streets barely able to breathe. I work in a law office and everyone was glued to the television, each of us, men and women alike, holding our boxes of tissue because it was so hard to see the television through the tears.
Within 15-30 minutes the second building collapsed. We all began to wonder if the hurt was going to stop. I remember feeling myself lose my breath when we heard it. The death toll up to 700 plus already. We figured it would be in the thousands.
People everywhere started pulling together. Sending money, supplies, volunteers to help with clean up and rescue missions.
I went to at 30 stores looking for a flag to put up that weekend. Three months later, several stores were still sold out.
Of all the things I remember the most, it was the amazing feeling of love everyone around me felt. I still make sure to call my family and hug my friends all I can. </text>

<text>My morning was rather usual and began early by taking a walk with a neighbor around a few blocks to get some exercise. I came home just in time to be with my husband as he was getting ready to leave for work. Our phone rang and it was my friend to tell me to immediately turn on the TV and watch the news. She said that an explosion had hit one of the WTC towers in New York City and the Today show was televising the news of the building being hit.
My heart began to have a sinking feeling that we were under horrible attack and lots of people were going to be involved in the horror. As my mine was dealing with these thoughts, I saw the other plane going toward the second tower and saw the explosion as it hit the building. I knew, at that time, our country
would never be the same and we would never feel the freedom of protection that we have so taken for granted over my entire lifetime.
Through out this last year, I get up each morning and "thank" the Lord for his love and mercy over each us and for our great country that we live in. He is the true answer to our lives and each day is only on loan for us to use to glorify him. His love is sufficient and will carry us through the rest of time.
I pray that each of the people that have lost loved ones, lost jobs, lost places that were everyday parts of their lives. For the people that risked their lives to help others through these many minutes, days, and months, for Americans that have had to deal with this terrible mark on our country, I lift them
up in prayer and that God's healing hand will comfort their torn sprits, heal their broken hearts, and unite each of us together with a love that comes only from our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

<text>I was sitting in my dorm room on that tuesday watching Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan when suddenly someone burst into my room asking if I had a blank video tape. I shut off the vcr and saw why he wanted the tape. It was like something from a movie, the images that played over and over that day. I was glued to the television for the whole day; in fact I didn't even go to my class that night. When I told the prof. the following week, that I was sorry for missing class, but I couldn't leave the coverage, he said that he didn't hold attendance against anyone that night and that he even dismissed quite a bit early so that everyone could go home and be with their families and reflect on the day. I will never forget that tuesday or the sunday after it when I had to preach about what happened in church.</text>

<text>I reference everything in life into before or after September 11. Everything before that date seems more innocent and gentle, and everything since then seems dangerous and threatening. The whole world has changed into something I am still trying to understand and get used to.

I was at home on September 11, in the potting shed in my garden. It was 2:46 pm in Amsterdam when it happened. My partner came outside and said "you'd better come insode and turn on the TV. Something bad has happened at the World Trade Center". I thought he meant the Trade Center here in Amsterdam.

When I turned on the TV I saw the World Trade Center tower in flames. It looked like a disaster movie. My partner and I just sat on the edge of the bed, staring at the TV and holding hands.

We saw the second plane in the distance and I asked my partner if he thought it was a rescue plane. He said he didn't think so. Then it hit the other tower. I really don't remember my reaction, but I must have screamed. It was the most terrible thing I had ever seen in my life.

I called my family in America many times in the next hour. Thye don't live in NYC or Washington, but I was afraid the whole country was going to be under attack. The day just became more and more terrifying with every new update. Even though I was in europe, I couldnt have been more shocked if I was there.

When the buildings fell down I just curled up into a ball and my partner held me.

I don't know what more I can say about that day except that it took me many months to get over it. I was anxious and scared and panicky for a long time. I still think about it almost every day, and check the terrorist threat level every day. If I live to be 100 years old IO will never forget how terrible it was to see something like that happen.

May God stop anything like that from ever happening again.</text>

              <text>WTC - 9/12
I work for a local hospital, and spent the 11th and 12th answering phone calls from people desperately looking for their loved ones. I had the late shift on the 12th, and that was the heaviest and hardest. Only one out of 200 names could be confirmed as treated and released. The unique grief of the hospitals in the area was that we stood ready for massive casualties, and there were none. My co-worker, a young man named Chris, and I were alone in the office for six hours, taking calls from every part of the country, not able to help them. We finally got out of there at 11:15 pm. His girlfriend, Carolyn, an x-ray technician, had appeared out of nowhere, wearing a thin white sweater and green scrubs, with a very grim look on her face. "I was just there." She pointed to a building across the street. "From where we are, now, to there, there is the rubble, where the buildings used to be. But it's massive. It's so crazy. Everything is everywhere. I'm going back. They need eyewash." She said other things I can't remember, but the main thing was, she was going back. I toyed for a moment with going home and drinking myself to sleep in front of CNN, then looked at Chris and the three of us were in her Pathfinder, on our way to the ER for bottles of eyewash. Chris and I put on green scrubs and made sure our hospital badges were displayed, and we took off. It was midnight, and we were virtually alone on the road. They were in the front, talking quietly. I was in the back with my head against the cold glass window, tired, and anxious to see the destruction.

From the Verrazano Bridge, we got our first look at the massive cloud of smoke and dust, glowing white from the searchlights, spreading out into a thick gray fog. The remaining buildings were sharp, black silhouettes. We were stopped at the entrance of the Brooklyn Queens Tunnel by a police officer, who waved us through after he saw the supplies, badges and scrubs. We followed an empty flatbed through the tunnel and came out on the other side.

The Pathfinder we were in crawled knee-high through fire trucks, cranes, military vehicles and flatbed trucks, making tracks in the deep dust that covered everything and everyone. The landscape was foreign- gray and muffled. With a backdrop of a black night, reality was redefined as something hard to touch, hard to see and hard to swallow. It was the silence of an awful snowfall obliterating familiar ground. Green traffic signs hung sideways pointing down. Ghosts in colorless uniforms doing urgent jobs already routine. There was no point of reference, no relevant direction, no sense that anyone still alive had ever been there before.

?This is where I parked before. Look. There?s that infant car seat I told you about.? We parked in an empty area near a gray building with gray windows. Alone in the gray was a gray car seat on the gray ground. I stepped out of the car and onto the soft surface of a gray new world. ?Come on.?

We pulled the supplies out of the back, and followed her around the corner. Up until that point, there were glimpses, flashes of smoky light, empty spaces where I remembered walls. We turned the corner and shrank into specks of dust. The sad remains of a disturbed landscape leaned inside itself, supporting the weight of the smoke and bright lights, exposed from the inside out. Ruins and victims of violence and gravity lay mangled and random, twisted, charred, broken, betrayed, murdered and terrified, framed out by a cold night at the very edge of the ending day. Proportion was distorted by slashes across the face of a 30-story building that was left standing, cracks from sidewalk to roof. The sky was black, the smoke was gray, the twisted metal, concrete, glass, rubble, was sharpened and defined by the shadows cast by the brilliant white work-lights; no colors flowed, down through the black channels of the cracks made by the lights, through mounds, over down around, to the ground, which was covered with paper. Sheets of paper, memos, invoices, triplicate forms, records, 8 ? x 11, untorn, unclaimed, unimportant pushed-out leaves fallen from shaken trees. The sounds I heard from machines, from people, from my own throat swallowing, were secrets whispered against the night dulled with dust. To breathe meant to taste the air, the sharp, unknown smells and floating particles and atoms of people and things once whole. The pull on my senses was so complete I felt the vacuum, the lack of space that pulled my breath, my lungs, my heart and essence in and out in waves, and I was replaced to the core by the absolute immensity of the cold intention of chaos.

The triage area where the first aid was occurring was set up in the lobby of a nearby building. We were given facemasks, goggles and rubber gloves, and were told where to put the supplies. Aside from a dog that was receiving aid for a cut paw, the only other medical activity was the washing out of the eyes of the rescue workers. This was being improvised by bending the sharp end of a hypodermic needle into an ?L? shape, holding up the eyelid, and washing out the affected area. There were about a dozen volunteers walking around wearing scrubs of various colors, all from different hospitals. Among the firefighters in all their rescue gear, I felt incredibly underdressed.

Chris and I stood at the base of an escalator, looking for ways to help. We heard they needed an area cleared so that cots could be set up, so we decided to organize the space. There were large boxes of clothing, sweaters, t-shirts, socks and underwear, which had been piled up, unneeded, in the middle of the floor. There were blankets, toothbrushes, mouthwash, band-aids, half-eaten lunches and half-dozen stacks of Poland Spring bottled water scattered, gray and untouched. There were three or four unrecognizable gray mounds on the floor, which I thought were blankets but turned out to be sleeping firefighters.

Carolyn said ?Come on,? again, and we followed her up the unmoving escalator. ?They told me about this.? She led us to jagged-edged opening in a gray wall, and we looked down. From that view we could see the entire rescue effort taking place. If God and Creation are painted on the ceiling of the Cistine Chapel, this is the scene of Destruction Michelangelo would paint on the floors of Hell. Clusters of teams of firefighters, dogs, jackhammers, welders, flashlights, paramedics, crawling over the rubble of smoking, twisted-metal mounds, looking for signs of life, finding only bloody pieces of it.

We had to keep moving. No one stands in one place too long, especially to stare. All grief was in another gray pile somewhere, under some wall or stairway, not yet needed.
At one point we became part of a river of firefighters heading towards a point in the rubble where someone had been found. To my knowledge no one had said anything, yet they all moved as a single unit. We stood at the very edge of destruction, trying to see what they were seeing. Behind us a ten-story crane was pulling a mangled steel I-beam out of the ground and placing it on a truck. In front of us, firefighters were watching and waiting. Then, quite suddenly, as if released from a single string, they dispersed, going back to their tasks once again. Two of them came out of the debris, each with the handle of an orange body bag in hand. It was sagging very unnaturally in the middle. That was all. That was it. A piece at a time.

At 3 am, September 13, they gave the word to move the triage, and I heard the word ?recovery? replace the word ?rescue? - a significant change. We decided to go home. Our green scrubs were gray. My skin was gray. My thoughts? We retraced our steps, stepped around the gray car seat, got into the Pathfinder, followed a flatbed into the tunnel, and got stuck behind a slow-moving sanitation truck, which was spraying water down, to wash away the dust, before it escaped into the night.

We drove back across the bridge, looking back, always looking back. I sat in the back with the window down. The black cold night air washed out our lungs. My eyelids were heavy from the dust. We were there for three hours. There were people there spending a season in that Hell. God help them.

              <text>9-8-03

The month of September has always been sweet and sour for my birthday being on the 5th and then school starting just around the corner. The September of the terrorist attacks started out no different than any other. It was my junior year in high school and the images of the 11th are still in my head as if it had been yesterday. It was sunny and the temperature was fair everything seemed to be normal. I had been sitting in my second period class for about 20 min. before our teacher, Mr. Turner turned on the T.V. for our daily dose of current events when we saw a cloud of smoke billowing out of the side of one of the World Trade Center's towers. The first thought of most of us was that it had been some kind of accident, but our teacher knew better when he heard that a plane "accidentally" flew into the building. His first thought was that it was some kind of attack on the U.S. and his hypothesis became a reality as we watched the second plane smash into the other tower, "this is going to be a very long day," he said. He told us that this was going to change life as we knew it and this day would stay in our heads for the rest of our lives. Eventually they let us out of school and directed us to go straight home. The air outside was very ominous, with hardly any cars on the road and the whole ride home all I could think of was if my family and friends families were ok. Many of my close family lives in New York City and many of my friend?s parents work in Washington so many crazy things were going through my head that day. 9/11 was a life changing event which we must never forget and make sure we can prevent in the future.

I looked at the TV as I sat down just to see a plane hit the WTC. At the time I thought it was a movie. My home page came up and I read the featured story in front of me on the screen. My eyes went back to the TV. "Oh my God~!~!" I said, "This is real~!~!". For the next 2 days I spent crying as I watched the terror unfold. Even after a year has passed, it still bothers me so much to see those pictures that will be forever etched in my mind. I still can't believe it happened here, in the United States. </text>

<text>I transeferred to NY to help my company get a new retail store division opened. I had a meeting in Westbury, approximately 10 minutes from downtown NYC. I flew back into LaGuardia on Sunday night from Dallas,Texas after visiting my dying grandfather. My pregnant wife, our two sons, A.J. and Nathan, and I were driving back to NY when we had vehicle trouble in Arkansas. I was able to get my family to stay at my parent's home while I flew back for this very importabt meeting. On 9/11, that morning, during the meeting, my wife calls me on my cell phone and tells me about a plane hitting the WTC. Another fellow co-workers' phone rings and they get the same message. Then the entire room's phones start ringing off the hook. I assured my wife that all would be fine and that I was a safe distance away. That's when she about tells me that the Pentagon was hit next. I started to immediately worry anout my mother who works for the DoD (Dept. of Defense). Needless to say the meeting was cancelled immediately. I remember a coworker (for his privacy, i will call him Gary) Gary, who lived in Battery Park, about a block away from the WTC. His wife called him, told him about the smoke and that the NYPD and NYFD were evacuating people from the apartments. We stood around the video conference room in one of the store downstairs. I watched in horror as the towers came down, but not before I gave Gary a hug and told him that his wife was going to be okay. She later, I found out was picked up by a wife of one of the regional staff members in Central Manhattan.
A few days later, my wife drove back to NY, vehicle repaired and children in tow. I will never forget what my oldest son,A.J. told me that day when he discribed the harbor. "Dad, I saw a battleship in the harbor with a bunch of destyoyers everywhere."</text>

<text> I am Andrea Lowery and I was at home when the attacks happened. I was watching the morning show with my son and my niece. I usually had cartoons on so I guess I was meant to see what happened. I remember thinking a plane must have run into the building accidently and then I saw the other plane hit live and I immediately called my husband at work and told him waht had happened, he kept saying,"are you sure?" I wanted him to come home, but knew he couldn't leave work. I just sat with the two babies and cried. I cried for days after it happened. I saw a photo of a firefighter in a magazine and I decided to draw a picture for him and his loved ones. I drew him with angel wings and a halo, it was beautiful. It helped me with my mourning process. I searched for weeks to find out the name of the firefighter and finally I got a hold of his wife. I asked her if they were all okay and she said they were. I sent her the drawing framed and matted and she sent me a picture of their children with my drawing. I just felt that they should have it because it was her husband. It was the best feeling I've ever had to send that to his family and to know they'll always cherish the picture I drew for them. I also wrote some poems to help me, it's much better than crying. I feel fearful today, but I have confidence that our government will protect us. There are many more good people out there than bad and we will prevail. Take care everyone.
Sincerely, Andrea Lowery</text>

The year had just started and here came an awful time in history. We were writing our essays. My classmates and I really were shocked about what we saw on the TV When I got home I remember my mom sitting on the couch looking like she was going to cry she was watching President Bush talk. She said how was your day today and then we just went and hugged her. We sat down next to her and watched TV That is what I remember September 11th.</text>

<text>On 9/11/2001 I was on my way to my doctors office on Park Avenue in NYC as I often did many times.I commute to NYC by way of the NJ Transit and I always use PATH trains to go to NYC afterwards. The PATH train took me to the WTC as usual and then about a minute after the train got to the WTC the building went under attack.I seen much chaos with many people running out of the concourse.I was actually one of the very first people out of there but the sight was so horrifying it was beyond belief.I was almost totally blinded by the falling mountain of debris and paper from the damaged floors up above.I was so very lucky I did not get hit by something solid falling from above like typewriters or furniture and worst of all innocent people who worked in those upper offices.I got out and started heading to the walkway by the Hudson River and by then I seen the 2nd plane hit the 2nd tower.I was clear of the debris and could clearly see the 2nd attack.I was still too close to the WTC so I started running away from there by way of the Hudson River walkway. When the 2nd plane hit I did notice something that really shook me up.I actually thought the building was going to be knocked over and fall on me.The hit caused a tremendous swaying of that tower and the 1st tower that was hit also started swaying.I was running to safety by then but I did not look back until I got past Canal St. by way of the Hudson River walkway.I kept moving further away and by this time the towers were both collapsing.Fortunately I was far enough away the smoke was no where near me.It was a sight I will never forget for the rest of my life.</text>

<text>I was at home on the morning of September 11, 2001 when a friend telephoned me to ask if I had the television on the news channel. He said that a large, commercial plane had flown into one of New York's Twin Towers just a few minutes prior and that the building was smoking and parts of it were devastated with people trying to evacuate.

I turned on the news to find what he said was true, but within that very minute, a second plane crashed into the second tower while I watched. The television commentators voices were unaccustomly filled with emotion as thousands of New Yorkers and others watching television looked in disbelief as the first of the Twin Towers began to crumble. I will never forget what I saw that day. I called my wife at work, and she and all the company staff were also watching what was happening...with all work stopped.

Today is September 11, 2002, and a few hours have passed since the terrorist attack that has changed the way all Americans (and others) view the world and our security. Nothing will be the same, especially for the thousands of persons throughout the world who lost loved ones and friends in the most devastating Act of War on American soil.

Security has dramatically heightened at all Government facilities, and some of my friends are now afraid to take jobs in downtown D.C. for fear of terrorist reprisals. Many are still leary of using airplanes for travel, but all have been affected by the evil in the hearts of those men and women who will stop at little to draw attention to their own agenda.

No one will forget the bravery of the men and women of the NYPD and NYFD who answered the call to save thousands that day. The strength of America was tested that day and not found wanting. If nothing, it has made the nation stronger through a disaster which will be remembered forever in history, along with the brave men and women (alive and dead)who helped others to live.

<text> I was beginning my morning just like any other day. I was busy with my daycare children, getting breakfast finished and doing usual daily chores. I stopped for a minute to call my mother in law to chat with her for a minute. I asked her what she was doing and she said she was watching the news and that a plane had just hit the World Trade Center. My first reaction was Oh My God, what a terrible accident! I immediately hung up the phone and turned on the television. I could not believe what I saw! Smoke and flames were coming up and out of the building and into the sky. Then as I watched, another plane came out of nowhere and it rammed into the second tower. Instantly, there was more smoke and flames. Then it hit me, this was no accident! After that realization came, a sick, emptiness came to my stomach and still to this day has not completely left. And I am not sure it ever will. The entire day on September 11, 2001 I did nothing but continuously watch the news and cry. Before that day, I felt pretty secure that nothing like this could ever happen. Not in America!!! It shattered an innocence in me just like it shattered and destroyed those two buildings. I had prayed that innocence would never be touched. I am now open to the fact that anything could happen, any time, anywhere. I now know that not everyone looks up to Americans just because we are a strong nation. In my lifetime, I will never forget the images of those buildings crumbling to the ground and all of the terrified faces in its wake! So many people lost loved ones in that tragic moment and it weighs heavy on my heart, the grief that I feel for them. Each and every time I see those images I will forever grieve for all Americans.</text>

<text>My husband and I were painting our home that summer. We were home outside painting from the early morning. Because I work in an office that has constant phone, faxing and paging, I was enjoying working outside without any radio or other sound. Around 11:00, I went inside to take a break and put on Home and Garden Television. There was a message on the screen that said, "Because of Today's Tragic Events Regular Programming Is Preempted." I then turned to the local TV channels to find out what the Tragic Events were. I remember watching shots of billowing clouds of dust and mounds of rubble. I kept watching thinking what is this that I am seeing. I ketp thinking it was some movie or game that I was seeing. Finally, I comprehended that the USA had been attacked and quite probably thousands of people were dead in the collapsed Towers. I called to my husband that he had to come in. That we were under attack. We sat and watched TV, glued to the horror of the Twin Towers. Some time later, I called my work place to find out if we had lost anyone on the planes out of Logan Airport, Boston. I spoke with my best friend and coworker of 24 years. He told me that not only were the Towers gone, but the Pentagon had been attacked. All the time we had been watching TV, the focus was on NYC. I was stunned at the news of the Pentagon. Later, I found out about the plane in Pennsylvania. During the phone conversation with my friend, I was also informed that my company had chosen that day to lay off numerous people. The terminations were started prior to the attacks and the company believed it best to continue. My heart went out to my fellow colleagues. I was home with my family, safe and sound. They were in work, listening to radio reports of the worst disaster that any had lived through, and on top of that they feared they too would be called in and informed that they no longer had a job.

Certain days I will always remember. My first day at school, the day President Kennedy was shot, the birth of my son and the day innocent people were attacked as they went about their every day lives.

<text>I had just opened my eyes. My television watches me all night, so it was already on the news. The reporters were saying that they had reports that a plane had hit WTC... as I watched the footage and they speculated on what the heck happened, another, right as we watched hit the second tower. I couldn't believe it! I was horrified, I knew that it could not be an accident now.

I tried to shake off the shock and went to take a shower and get ready for work. I took a very short shower because I started having a gut feeling that it had only just begun.

As I approached my room again... there were reports that the White House was on fire... scared me to all heck. Then shortly after they said a plane had hit the Pentagon and that four other planes, bound for Los Angeles were unaccounted for. Mind you they never recanted the White House fire blunder.

I thought the world as we know it was ending. I was terrified to go to work. I live in Lawndale and work in Burbank... one route I go past LAX the alternate rounte is through downtown and there was no way I was going to be 30 miles away from my Mother and Child when I had no idea what was happening and else was going to happen. I was so frightened.... not knowing if America was still going to be free.

My Job thought I was crazy for not coming in saying things like "you know they're not coming to get you, right"... I think they are crazy for going to work and not spending time with their families in that time of unsured safety and possible total upheaval of our daily lives as we knew them. Plus they all live minutes away from home.

I still take long hard looks at the planes that fly over downtown LA in there final turn to approach LAX.

Years before 9/11/01 I had made comment to a friend that one day a depressed pilot is gonna slam into one of those skyscrapers... I've always watched them turn around over the buildings. My friend said I was crazy, no one would ever do that. Now that friend asks me what else do I worry about so that he can keep an eye out.

I am so glad that it did not get worse that day, but I will never be the same and I am actually working on never feeling over-secure anywhere. We have to be observant and take care of one another... all the time, not just in crisis.</text>

<text>I was on the 106th floor of the WTC on my Birthday 9/10 doing Telephone Pay Tel. disconnect work, they were renovating the bar area of the Resturant, which most people did not know at the time. I had called my loved one at home and said to her "We have to celebrate my Birthday the weekend and i shall make a reservation. I had my tools on me and in my tool pouch i always keep a throw-a-way camera, which i took 2 pic's from my view looking out the window. I had to stop work for the day, i had to return work the next day 9/11. I left for the day. Rode the freight elevator down from 106 non stop to basmt level. Returned my pass, rode up out to church & vessey STS. My garage at the time was located 42nd st cor of 11ave.So i rode up the west side hway to 42nd st. Next day 9/11, i prepared my truck to return back to the WTC 106th floor windows of the world. I left at 8:15am, i just was so tired because i knew it was just an ordeal to go up there again, waitng on that long line on varrick st, showing my license, etc. I was in no hurry. I knew i should leave so i got ready to go, exitied my garage took 11th ave down which now was 8:25am. I then was in a bit of traffic........heading down there i noticed now i was around 23rd st. All of a sudden i saw noise. The rest is history.....</text>

I was in the 6th grade and had just begun playing and was ready to learn all that i could about it. There were other kids there adn we were all practicing and goofing off and having fun, when some one came on the intercom and the droning of instraments stopped to listen, "teachers please turn on your TV's..." the drone kicked back up again and covored the rest of the message, it wasnt for us we didnt care. at 9:30 the bell rang and every one started to drift off to there first class. Conviniently my first class was Strings there on the stage so i didnt have to go any where, so i just continued to play untill my friend Tori got there. We made a little plan, she would open the curtains and i would play, it would be like a formal little concert for no one. So laughing the curtains opened as i played "ode to joy" when the curtains got about 3/4 of the way open, i could see that the nearest TV in the cafeteria was turned on. I looked more closley and saw one of the twin towers burning and then it switched to both of them burning, and then i saw a picture of a plane crashing into the second building. I stoped my song and just about dropped my violin. Tori was looking at me like "what the heck is rong?" and i ran down to the edge of the stage and jumped down and sat at a table and looked, i asked my teacher what happend and he said that a plane crashed into them. I asked why and he just looked at me. Then i remembered the intercom message, THIS is why they wanted the TV's on so eveyr one could see. In the next class they wouldnt let us watch the tv becasue they were afraid wed get to scared, in fact we all were, we were only in the 6th grade a bunch of 11-12 year olds, and my friend Alyssa was crying because her aunt worked at the school right next to the buildings, i told her it was ok and she told me that her aunt had a back problem (i think thats what it was) and couldnt run. That hole day, so many students went home, that they ran out of student aides to go and get the kids, alot of them were being called down over intercom or telephone, and every time the phone rang or the intercom beeped Alyssa would close her eyes in hopes it wouldnt be her, if it was her going home it ment her aunt was in trouble. at the time there were 1200 students in my middle school, by the end of the day about 500 were left in class. Neither me nor alyssa went home that day, not early at least.

When i got home, my little brother who was sitting at the table with my grandma doing his homework said "oh wow the twin toweres were crashed did you see?" and i was like "duh" and just went to the couch and turned on the tv and watched. I have a HUGE family who is all from the new jersey/new york area, and we all knew that some one we were related to was going to be in the towers so i watched the footage i hadent see before of the towers crumbling to the ground. No more twin towers. I remembered the last time i went up to visit new jersey, and we landed in newark air port and i looked out the window and saw the towers and smiled. On our trip to new york durring my stay up there, we went to the empire state building, i took like 20 pictures of the twin towers.

Remembering this i went to school september 12 with all of them and gave about 10 of them away to friends and techers, the others i left in my lunch box pocket. Later i realized, that they were stolen and that made me very angry after all that hate and some one could still steal all i had left of those buildings.

When i got home that wednesday i started to get ready to go to my cheerleading practice. The phone rang and my disabled grandfather who was sitting on the couch watching tv picked it up just as i was passing through the living room. I heard the click of the telephone from the kitchen and me and my grandmother went in. "who was it i asked," he was crying. my grandma asked again "frank who was it? whats rong?" he just looked at us and all he could say was, "Pat... hes missing."

I was racking my brain, who was pat, pat, how was i related to him, i couldnt remember. i asked my grandma and was told he was my fathers cousin, then i remembered all the storys that i was told about whne him and my dad were little. adn i started to cry, he was missing and later i found out no one we were related to worked at the WTC but that Pat a Navy man, was stationed at the Pentigon. I went to cheerleading and cryed durring break, and tried to laugh durring practice, but it was hard. The week went by and as the 8th grade tv production class made video after video, of pictures from new york, and the pensilvania feild, and about the hero's on the plane that crashed there.. and about hte pentigon. I cryed more that week in school then i ever had in my life, i couldnt watch those video's with out crying, and i had taken it habit to just turn my back on them.

I remember one day durring that week i was walking to my bus stop and i heard a plane and knowing that htye werent sopose to be in the air i looked up to see a low flying plane fly over me, i knew nothing of air force jets, so i coulndt tell weather it was sopose to be there or not. I just ran. Was it going to crash and was i going to die? Planes werent sopose to be in the air! why was it?

the local newspaper featured my grandpa. He told thme how our hole family had a little system to say what was up about my cousin, Pat and if he was found, his wife stephanie who was pregnate at the time with there 1st child would call Pats mom, who would call some one who would call some one, who would call us. The paper thought this was clever and it was.

On the saturday following the attacks i was helping clean up after dinner, when the phone rang, I picked it up thinking it was one of my friends, "hello?" no one answered, "hello? any one there?" Then i heard my aunts voice, "Colleen, is yoru fahter there?" i told her yes and to hold on, I handed the phone to my dad and said, "aunt patty, she sounds sick," and the color faded from my dads face but he smiled and took the phone. i wennt strait to the couch in the other room and sat down. No one had to tell me what happend i knew by the tone of my aunts voice, they found pat, and he wasnt alive. I remember hearing my grandma shrik and start to cry. My cousin was in the Navy controll room, when the plane hit, he was with a few other people and his friend who was standing next to him, was the only one in the room to live, but with 42% of his body burnt. I was confused how he could live by my cousin could not. they were standing next to eachother.

Ever scince my family has been very patriotic.

At Pats funeral, my grandpa stood up in the middle of the serman and yelled "GOD BLESS AMERICA!" and had the church full of navy captines and relitives of ours burst into laughter, its how Pat would have wanted it, happy.

THe fallowing March Pats wife stephanie, had there first child witch she named after the place they met, and her father. Alexzandria Patricia Dunn. She was baptized jsut as Pat would have wanted it too, out at sea, the place he love the most, on a ship he was on duty on at one time.

I never actually met Pat, but i remember him as an extra motivation when i play my violin, thats what i was doing when he died, so it must be worth my time.</text>

<text>Like most mornings, I was driving to work on the morning of September 11, 2001. To be exact, I had just turned off of Waxpool Drive onto Rte 28 South when news of the disaster hit all radio channels. Before I could reach the exit for Dulles International Airport, the sirens began. And they didn't stop.

Full of fear and panic, I tried to phone my significant other from my car phone, but the lines were jammed and I couldn't get through. Frustration - I need to talk to him!

Seven minutes later my call went through. Could it be true? Had he heard? What was wrong with our phone lines? Did he hear sirens, too? What else did he hear? What? What? What? WHAT WAS HAPPENING?

He was closer to the children's school that I was; he would double back to find out if the school and the student's were alright.

All we could do was agree to stay in touch. Another 15 minutes and I'd be at work; but I never remember going through any stoplights that day. Don't even remember other cars on the road. With my radio turned to high volume, I only remember listening to newscasters on the radio.

Getting ready to make my final left-hand turn, I was at the corner of R50 and Waples Mill Road when news came of the Pentagon. It seemed like seconds later, sitting in my office, the final plane went down in Pennsylvania.

There was a dead silence throughout the building. Stunned silence. Shocked silence. Without asking, one incredible employee was already on his way out the door; no one needed to tell him that blood would be needed. He was on his way to donate - immediately.

Being part of the Human Resources team, we needed to assess the office situation and address our disaster policy. But in the end, there was no assessment to be made. With 23 years in the field, I've never seen anything likeour response that day. Like most other businesses, nothing seemed to matter. NOTHING seemed important anymore but the focus on our people.

Where did our people need to go to feel safe? If they were in the building and could grab the hand of a fellow employee, that was good. If they wanted to get to the one TV set up in the main meeting area and watch up-to-the-minute news in dead silence with co-workers, that was good. If they could get through to their loves ones by phone, that was good. If they wanted to leave, they just did. If they wanted to cry, they just did.

Personally, I left as soon as possible wanting to retreat with my two teenagers to the safety of our own home. We stayed glued to the TV all day. We sat. We paced. I don't remember if we ate that day. It wasn't important. I do remember we didn't talk much. At least not on THAT day.

We talked later about how much we love each other, and how safe we feel in our home, in our community, in our country. We talked about the sad families; we made pledges to help them because we knew we had to help. I explained extremists and terrorism. I think they used words like "silly, makes no sense, and what a waste."

We agreed now was the time to think good thoughts. We agreed to follow the events, but we also agreed that it would be important to limit our exposure to TV and newspaper.

Best of all, we agreed to hang our national flag in front of our home RIGHT NOW. We would need to get a smaller US flag for the mailbox. And remember one for Mom's car, and one for the girl's car.

There's a tremendous amount of security in the red, white and blue. And the more we began to see, the better we felt.

PASS THIS EMAIL AND POEM ON TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW - Our goal is to get this to

as many people as possible by September 11th

At 9:48 EST on September 11 2002 we would like everyone around the world to

stop for a moments silence and then recite this poem, either to themselves or

as a group.

We want to remember the people who died in these attacks.

Don't Forget My Name by Terry Neal

Evening drops the curtain on another day

As you lie in bed

Suffocating memories persist

Melancholy invasions

Brother, partner, sister, father,

Lover, mother

Friend

Don't forget my name

Grief overwhelms

Closing your eyes

Living in the past during an eternal moment

We sat together at graduation

This was my first real job

You were my first new friend

in a new city, a new job

Don't forget my name

Feelings churn

tangled in that pit

in your gut

Son, co-worker, husband, boss,

daughter, wife, pilot

Don't forget my name

The feelings won't go away

After all this time

Which in reality only seems long ago

Rescuing you was my job

And this was just another day on the job

Don't forget my name

Life is much too real these days

A paradoxical mix of joy and pain

A tornado of the soul

Hurrying strangers bumped on the street

A woman who was late for her train

Arriving downstairs at that moment

Don't forget my name

And there you are, standing again at the door

to your soul

opening and wandering into what you know

will tear you apart

yet again ripping open the fresh repairs

I was sitting on the plane

looking forward to this special trip

I was sitting on the plane looking forward

to getting home Don't forget my name

You enter your soul

To look again

Like a wreck on the side of the road

you glance to see if the horror

will stretch your limits

even more than what you expect to see, what you saw

bursting your feelings even further

You can't help but look

just as you can't stop yourself

from going through that door wondering what it was like

for those who were there

Any of us, all of us,

You, Me, I, They, Them, Whoever

We keep the promise

To not forget their names

Time fixed our destiny that day

Time numbs our grief

But the sorrow remains

I was sitting there looking out the window

Drinking my coffee, looking at my messages

Don't forget my name

Words are the ammunition we use

in our target practice for grief

Learning to open the door

Learning to live again

While denying that we ever will

I arrived late that day

standing at the door looking up

hearing the sounds overhead

I was upstairs at a special meeting,

feeling privileged to be invited here

Don't forget my name

You hear me touching you with whispers in the wind

Assuring you though I am cast unto the ages

I am still with you

I would rather not be a hero

But now I understand that hero's

Don't choose their fate

And now you remain

Don't forget my name
