Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: When I first saw the image, I thought it was a small plane that the pilot lost control of. I thought what a tragedy. Never thought it was intentional until the second plane hit. I did not realize the World Trade Centers were that big. It was hard to believe that a 767 could fly into those buildings and pretty much dissappear. I realized then how many people could be in there. This was building probably had more people in it than a small midwestern town. For the actual collapse. I am still numb a year later. I just cannot believe it. It still all seems like a movie. Then the pentagon was hit which is only 25 miles from my house. What a frightening thought. There are a lot of private security sites around my house and it was getting a little scary. What if? I could not believe that a person could fly a jet into the pentagon which is only a few stories high. If that is the case they would fly into anything. What a scary thought? How many more planes are coming? Would they come today, next week, or the week after. My mom was here from Germany and she had to fly 9 days after the incident. She kept hoping they would cancel her flight. She was scared to death. They did not. She went ahead and flew and made it safely. But you never know when you get on a plane. I feel that everyone thinks that in the back of their head, but hoping it won't happen. Swallow your fear and continue on with life. I am going to fly in March 2003 to Germany and feel a little fear when I think about it. I hope something happens in the meantime for me to feel better about it. I hate the thought that they put that fear in me when I have flown all my life. My daily activities are normal and have no fear, just the flying scares me now. I love the flag; however, not as much as I do now. I truly do not take for granted what the American Flag stands for or represents for America. I have never been more proud to be an American than I am now. I am very sad for those families who lost a loved one. I could not even begin to understand the lose they must feel. My prayers are with those families and wish them God's love. He will be with them always. I will never understand how anyone so evil and so much hate could take the lives of so many for what they believe to be for God. I am sure my God would not orchestrate such a thing. He represents love to all of us. I WILL NEVER FORGET. I donated money to the families as well as thru my work, GE. I am very proud of GE for the things they have done. They matched every dollar that was donated. I certainly hope the families will see that money. Especially the ones with small children, for their college. Since most of them no longer have fathers or mother or even orphaned. I wish I could have done more; however, all I can do is pray for them and hope they all know how much they all mean to us. Their loved ones did not die in vain. We as a nation need to continue to stand as one and stay united. United States has never ment so much. I hope my children never have to go thru anything as this in their life time. God bless all the families and all those who lost their lives on 9/11/01. I hung up, called my husband. I was very scared and wanted to go home to be with my family. I couldn't leave work. My son called several times saying he couldn't believe what was happening. When I got home I was watching T.V. with my husband and started to cry. I cried off and on for months after the attack. He held me very tight. I found a new appreciation for all the simple things in life. I am so sad for the victims and the family and friends left behind. The workers at Ground Zero are all heros to me. They have my utmost respect.I am affraid that there will be another attack. I hope I'm with my family if it happens. I just wish we could have a kinder, gentler world. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I had left home at around 7:15 a.m.in route to BWI Airport for a flight to Reno, Nevada. We always drive to the airport and park, but this day we decided to get a shuttle. The driver had CD's playing all the way. We arrived at BWI in Baltimore at about 8:30a.m. The airport seemed very quiet, no TV's or radios of any kind on anywhere. I overheard a lady asking the baggage screeners why the TV's were not on. I heard them say, there was a storm last night and it knocked them all out! I never thought anything about it. We went to our waiting area and sat. My husband left to go to the mens room about 5 of 10am. Just then they called for us to board the plane. I got worried about my husband making it back in time. I saw him rushing over and we started toward the gate. Then they said Ladies & Gentlemen, please be seated we are not taking off just yet. Then I heard someone across the aisle say the Pentagon has been hit with a bomb! Someone else had a radio and said the Twin Trade Towers were hit. I immediately said to my husband I was going to the gift shop and purchasing a radio. I did. Thank God because there was no other way we would know anything. I then started trying to call my mother from my cell phone. Nothing. I was able to connect with her two or three times to try and get us out of there. I was more scared than I ever have been in my life! They then kept announcing for us to evacuate the airport! We had no where to go or no way to go. There wasn't a rental car, truck, bus or any transportation to get to go anywhere! They told us to get our luggage, then when we got there they said it was locked down and the air crew had left. We were frantic. By about 2:30PM we were able to get a limosine and get out of there. All the way home the roads were desolate! Once we got home we were glued to the TV for two days. We had to return to Baltimore to get our luggage on Thursday. The first day they opened the airport. We were skeptical so we made sure we had passports, license, ID and our tickets to pick up our luggage. We arrived at the parking lot and it was empty. We walked right into the airport there was NO SECURITY! No one checked any ID and we got our luggage and left! What a horrific experience. We were too close to the Pentagon and wanted to get home. Then I found out that a colleague who was going to the same Convention was on that flight from Reagan A/P and she left a 13 year old son. We were SO LUCKY! Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: The Attack! Tuesday, September 11,2001 seemed to be like any other normal school day. The morning routine was getting up, getting dressed and ready for school then going to school for the days work and schedule. There was a little catch this morning though. That is the morning "it" happened. We all went to second period, which was my global studies period and we received a phone call. Mrs. Capen answered the phone and had a strange look on her face. She hung up the phone and turned on the television and told us that we had some breaking news. When she did get a news station on it all seemed as it was a dream or even a movie! The first thing I saw on the television was one of the two American Twin Towers was in the process of being in gulped in flames. After about 5 minutes later, another plane was flying low to the ground; lower than usual and seemed as if it was going to miss the second Twin Tower. Then at the last minute the plane turned and crashed right into the last standing tower! A few seconds later the first twin tower exploded and the second started on fire. All you could see were the flames gulping up the two twin towers and the people running and screaming for help! I was in so much shock that it just seemed like another movie or anything besides reality. I got to witness this tragedy live on television as others suffered through it. The real reason for me thinking that it was not real is because Mrs. Capen was just teaching us about Afghanistan, the Taliban and terrorism. The whole class thought that it was just a set up, but I hate to say that is was reality. After Global Studies I went to gym. It was a normal gym day for us, because, well, it was gym. By the time I got to English the first twin tower had collapsed to the ground! About five to ten minutes after third period, another "lost" plane crashed into the Pentagon. The plane that crashed into the pentagon was really meant for the white house and did not make it that far. President Bush was not even located in Washington D.C. he was in Florida and watching the news and was very socked by the news. Then after a few minutes after the outlook of the crash in D.C. another one of the "lost" planes crashed into a field in Somerset Pennsylvania. As soon as I sat down in my seat the second tower collapsed. In the matter of seconds what took many years to build and a lot of money was gone! It all looked as if a volcano just erupted and all the smoke was still flooding out of the top of the buildings. The whole block plus more was covered in soot! There were papers all over the streets and pieces of our all American symbol were covering the streets. Have you ever watched an old fashion movie that was all done in black and white? Well, if you have then that is what it looked like but the people were covered in this black and white too! All day in all of our classes we got to watched the news. People were crying, thinking, wondering and even worried. Our school had a lock down. No one could leave the building and no one could come in! Later into that evening and all that month, the friends and family that had loved ones on those planes and in the World Trade Center came to Ground Zero. The site was named Ground Zero because it was the point of no return, and it was where the once highest buildings in America stood it are only a bunch of rubble. So many innocent lives were taken and people were killed that shouldn't have been. Every single hospital was empty and waiting for people to come to the hospital so that they could help them stay alive and the only problem with that is that all of the people were dying and that way the people were not making it into the hospitals. The National Guard and any other emergency personnel had to report to New York City to help with the recovery of the Twin Towers. They sent New York State firemen, volunteers, and doctors to New York City to help the injured and help dig for people through the massive destruction. Battle ships and subs were sent to the east coast to protect the United States from another invasion. They had all the power plants and nuclear plants have extra security and extra security guards around. A few weeks to a month into the investigation, the government researched cell phone bills to see when the last call was, whom it was to, and what the name of the recipient was. They had found that many people that were on board of the hijacked planes had called one of their loved ones and told them that there was going to be a change of plans and they would not be arriving into the airport. Others just called their close friends and family to say good-bye and tell them they loved them and would never forget them. They figured that there were at least six to eight terrorists that were acting on board. Earlier in the year the President started to get bomb threats and threats of all sorts but nothing ever happened. When this threat came they ignored it and did absolutely nothing about it. The President thought that it was another mad American and that it was just a threat and that the whole thing would blow over and it was really nothing to worry about. Well this time the President was wrong. He should have treated it as if it was going to happen and all of the New York City main buildings should have been evacuated. But instead the day kept going as a regular workday and for some it was their last workday. I had just pulled into the parking lot when the news came on. Afraid I would be late I turned off the car and figured I could get the news on my computer as I did every morning. As I entered the building a lady said "did you hear two planes hit a building in New York"? I thought "I don't think so". When I got to my desk I turned on my computer and went right to the MSNBC website. Oh my God! I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Tears just fell down my face. We ran to the other building just in time to see the second tower fall. I could not take my eyes off the tv a friend had brought in. This was the saddest day of my life. I prayed for all the people lost and missing. Weeks went by before I could even smile again. Such saddness I have never felt before. My son had already put a flag in our window by the time I got home that night. Patriotism seemed to be everywhere. We were all one with each other. A country united. It was about half way through second period, which is about 9:30AM that people started acting strange and then a teacher came in my classroom and told my teacher "do not turn on the television" so when the teacher left my teacher turned the television on and we saw the World Trate Center with black smoke coming out of the sides. And my peers and I did not know what happened whether a bomb exploded or an Airplane hit it. It was the most terrifing site that i have ever saw in my life. So now that my class and I saw what was going on they told us we had to keep it to our selves because they did not want the younger kids to know about it and also kids parents that might have been working there that day. Well around fifth and sixth period which is about 12:00-1:20PM a lot of students we getting called down to the main office to go home, as many as ten at a time. And then when i got home at 3:30 PM my Aunt was over and her husband is a momunth county sherrif officer and he had to go to the World Trate Center he left around 5:00PM and arrived home about 2 days later. I woke up, called the airline to make sure there was availability on a later flight. There was, so I stayed home a little longer. During my drive I just did not feel like leaving town. I travel almost weekly and this particular day, I had NO motivation to leave. I had approached the toll plaza when my husband phoned. He asked if I heard anything about a plane that hit a building. I did not at the time. I turned up the radio and a song was then interrupted. Details were very unclear but I became horrified. I broke into tears. My driving was becoming more and more erratic as I listened to the few details the newscasters had. I phoned my mother. By this time I was shaking and crying hysterically. I was nearly hyperventilating crying to her that I did not want to go to my flight. I was struggling with my fear, I was afraid of being reprimanded if I cancelled my flight. I was about to pull of the road as I was crying uncontrollably and heard the announcement that airports across the nation were cancelling flights. I had chills yet I was relieved. I exited the toll road to compose myself. That is when I heard that the crash could have been an attack. I went to my ex mother-in-laws home as she was close to the exit. I watched television only minutes after arriving, the second plane hit. I was shocked that the client I cancelled the appointment with was upset that I could not make it. She suggested I try to find another way to get there. I pray she did not realize what had happened to have such little compassion. Words cannot describe the sorrow I felt. I mourned for weeks, months, and still today. I broke down emotionally for a period of time. I am very porud of Mayor Rudy G. and President Bush. They made me feel safer. I felt stronger when I heard their voices. I am so sorry for the victems, families, and friends of the people who so senselessly died. I pray for them. I pray for us. I will never feel the same. I was the first person from my very large company. I felt safe travelling. I feel VERY safe with Southwest Airlines, BUT, I am not satisfied with airport security, especially at Chicago, Midway Airport.I hope an effective airport security plan is made and used. I hope Midway will evaluate the personnel they have and make appropriate decisions. Thank you Southwest for making me feel safe! I flew on Sept. 10 and 12, 2002. I will continue to fly. I was at home watching "Good Morning America" while I was ironing. They interrupted the program with flash news about the first plane that hit the World Trade Center. Has your life changed because of September 11, 2001? If so, tell us how. Yes, my life has changed. I am more scared to be around crowded areas. I am more suspicious of people, and afraid of traveling far distances in planes. Now, I appreciate my life more and do not take things for granted. As I was introduced to my new coworkers, a rumor started to ripple through the office that a plane had crashed into the World Trade Center. At first we thought it was a Cessna type plane that had engine trouble of some sort, but that notion was quickly and heartbreakingly lost as the magnitude of the event was heard on the desk radios of the staff. We huddled in the conference room, my new office mates and I, clutching each other as we watched the horror unfold. About 20 minutes later I learned that the son of one of our principals was taking a class at Smith Barney that morning. I didn't know him, but the rest of the staff was shaken with what was surely devastating news. Later that morning, in the midst of the shock and mind-numbing grief we collectively felt, we got the news that this young man had spontaneously gone down to a street vendor to grab some breakfast, and was spared what would have been a horrific fate. I can only imagine the relief his family felt, and wish so many other family members of innocent victims had been so lucky. We are closer and kinder to each other for having shared the experiencing of witnessing such an unbelievably painful event. Tell us your story: 9/11/02 On September the 10th, 2001, I boarded a plane in Nashville, Tennessee headed for Reno, Nevada to visit my Grandfather. This was my third trip that year. That afternoon, after having arrived at my grandpa's home, he and I were enjoying the view from his back deck and talking. As we talked, the subject of World War II came up as is usual. My grandpa had been a Naval Aviator in the South Pacific during WWII, receiving both the DFC and the Purple Heart. Naturally, I am a WWII buff so we often talked about the war, but rarely of his detailed memories. Once again I tried that day to get him to open up and share with me some of his experiences from the Great War, but as is often the case with war veterans, he remained reluctant to recall those painful memories, and understandably so. I said to him, "Grandpa, for all the wonderful things you guys did, you still have one more job to do." Grandpa replied with half of a grin, "What the hell do we have to do now?" I said "Grandpa, those of you guys still here today, need to tell your stories in as much detail as you can stand, and to as many people as will listen, lest we forget the horrors of war." I could see by the look on his face that this would be something unbearable for him. We changed the topic. The next morning at just after 6am Reno time, I was in the guest bathroom shaving when I heard my cell phone ringing in the next room. Ordinarily I did not take my cell phone on the trip to Reno, but for some reason I chose to that time. I remember wondering why anyone back home would be calling me so early, forgetting that it was after 9 on the East Coast, after 8am where I live. Sensing an urgency I quickly ran to answer the phone, smearing shaving cream all over the keypad as I heard my wife's voice on the other end asking me if I were watching the television. I said "No, why what's up?" She said go turn on your TV, we are being attacked. I ran upstairs to my grandfather's bedroom, half covered in shave cream and the phone in my hand. The first thing I saw was my grandfather sitting on his bedside looking at the images on the TV screen with tears rolling down his face. As we both sat and watched in stark disbelief and horror, my grandfather said to me "Son, I think someone forgot." Later that day my grandpa was hospitalized with heart problems, where he remained until after I boarded the very first plane to leave Reno International Airport the following Thursday morning, the 13th of September. I was scheduled to board a Boeing 757 for Dallas, where I would connect to another 757 to Nashville. Instead I was on a twin engine turbo-prop to Salt Lake City, where I caught a 757 to Cincinatti, and another twin engine into Nashville just after midnight. My wife Leonora, who is from NY, and I watched as events continued to unfold. We learned of the death of her cousin Michael Tammucio, who worked on the 98th floor of Tower #2. We wept with the rest of our nation, as we mourned not only the death of thousands of innocent men & women, but the way of life that has now been forever changed. It was a B-day and I was in my first block class. It was a Probability and Statistics and we had just gotten our test back that we had just taken from the previous class. The words our principal, Ms. Gatesgill said over the loud speaker still are echoing in my mind. The class was silent as she said, ?I?m sure all of you have heard about the tragedy that has happened in New York. I don?t have a problem with teachers tuning your T.V. to see the events as they unfold." So for about an hour my class sat in amazement watching history happen. In my second block class all we did was watch the news and talk about how we were feeling. That class was when some tears were shead. On the way to my third block class I knew my teacher would the day to go on as planned so we did our work. On the way to lunch the halls were empty, which was unusual for my school. Lunch was quiet and all anyone talked about was the way they felt and how they thought the nation was going to react. That day seemed like it went on for eternity. In my last block class was were we talked about it the most. This class, Citizenship, was very opinionated about their feelings on why this had happened and who had done it. That night all my family did was watch the news. One of my younger sisters was asking so many questions and all my dad or mom would say was that someone really doesn't like the United States and they were being very mean. I really think that she knew it was something more than that. Now that the one year anniversary of the 9-11 tragedy has come and gone I feel that I have changed, but not as much as the people that were directly affected by it. I realize now that America has its weaknesses and that the government as well as the citizens can do something to help. I now see that our nation isn?t the most perfect and that anything can happen where I live either in the United States or Lexington, Kentucky. I also realize that there are two definitions of hero and I am really contemplating on whether or not to become a paramedic. Prior to the tragedy I always looked ahead and I had all of my life planned out. Now I realize that with one event it can change dramatically. I was planning on going to a good pre-law college and then going on to law school, but now the option of being a paramedic has come into perspective. The fact that those types of people are looked up to in that manner would be really flattering and I would like to know how it feels to save someone?s life. I remember talking to my friends before school started and having a good time. When the bell rang I went to class. When I walked in, the television was on and they were talking about something dealing with the World Trade Centers. I just blew it off and sat down. Then I remember this girl named Dallas coming up to me and said, "The World Trade Centers got bombed" I was like, "What's the World Trade Centers?" Soon after, the principal told the teachers to turn off their tv's, so I didn't really know much about it. All I knew was that some terroists blew up some buildings. Which wasn't even what really happened. That day, I was supposed to go to my friends house after school to work on our dance for drill prep. Since I didn't really know much about what happened and neither did my friend, we decided to work on our dance any ways. So I went to her house and when we got there her mom had the tv on. We started watching it and finally saw what really happened. I was so upset that I called my mom to pick me up. When I got home I immediatly turned on the tv and started to watch. It made me feel so sad that so many people lost their lives. They showed horrible things, like people jumping out of buildings. Then they showed people in Afghanistan laughing and celebrating for what the terroists did. I was so angry that I wanted them to pay for what they did. Now I think about it and I still feel sad, but then I think about how everyone put aside their difference and came together as a country. I remember sitting here in the office, arriving early as I am inclined to do, listening to the morning complaints and gossip floating around our open work area while anxiously waiting for the coffee to finally finish dripping. There was a little giggle at something or other someone said that immediately piqued my interest. I remember asking my coworker to repeat it ? a plane ran into the World Trade Center? When? This morning? Are you kidding? It seemed like a joke to me at the time. Then our receptionist walked in?she wasn?t inclined to come in early to participate in the morning frivolity?and joined right in, ?Yeah, there was another plane, too!? I remember this all vividly because right then, my life changed forever. There were no more smiles. In an instant everyone scrambled to the nearest radio to find out what was happening. I remember thinking, ?This can?t possibly be real, can it?? The following few hours were rife with an ever increasing dose of horror: A plane crashed in Pennsylvania, The Pentagon was hit, The World Trade Center?s Twin Towers Collapsed, Thousands of People Dead, People Leaping From Eighty Stories Up to Their Deaths! It refused to stop coming. The voices on the radio were as confused as I was by the rapidly unfolding events of the morning. I remember that suddenly, a television set appeared in our work area and someone fiddling with a set of rabbit ears and then those terrifying images began to appear before us. I can?t remember breathing after the first time I witnessed the image of a fully fueled airliner disappearing into the side of one of the Twin Towers. And, sadly, I still refused to believe it. In the days and weeks that followed it just didn?t seem to get any better. Everyone I met, everyone I talked to had a singular focus?September eleventh. Suddenly, every one of us was the same. It no longer seemed to matter that we all still had to go to work everyday and earn a living or that our kids were driving us crazy or that our parents were overbearing or that our car didn?t work. I remember a few conversations that still haunt me to this day. I?m sure we all have them. Someone?s brother was at the Pentagon. Another?s uncle was at the World Trade Center. But, most of all I remember the collective fear invading us all. How could this have happened? And, will it happen again? What about the power plant? Or, the LNG terminal sitting invitingly out in the bay beckoning another attack? I?m not sure when those feelings began to subside or even how I let them begin to dissipate. I do know, however, that certain things will never be the same. I remember looking up at a passing airliner and thinking, I wonder where they?re going? Now I see one and stare after it hoping it will land safely where it is supposed to go. I remember that when I heard the word ?cap? I thought of a baseball hat. Now I think of military jets flying over our heads protecting our skies. I see now that most of us have moved on after a year. The morning gossip and complaints and jokes are back in the office. The coffee pot is back to being more important in the morning than the phone or the filing or the work. I notice most of us are back to worrying about the economy, our bosses, our kids and parents more so than events we cannot possibly control. But, then here we are on September eleventh?three hundred sixty five days away from the worst day any of us can remember and I wonder ? have we really moved on? I?m not sure we have. I will never look at travel in the same way as I did, three hundred sixty six days ago. I don?t think I?ll be able to look at tall building anymore without considering whether or not it might be a target. I have driven past the power plant on a number of occasions and remember each time, breathing a sigh of relief when I?m safely away. It is an unwelcome feeling I just can?t seem to shake. That is really what September eleventh has done to us all. In those few short hours when the world of terror reined over us one year ago today, we were made to carry a burden that may never go away. I cannot pretend to know whether that which we all carry will fade completely. Just as I am sure everyone who lived through December seventh, nineteen forty-one could not have possibly imagined their feelings of that morning ever leaving them. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: During the 9/11 attacks, I was in my home in Korea watching TV and browsing through channels when I got to the news channel. I was astonished to see that one of the World Trade Center Towers was on fire. While my mom was sleeping, I told her the news and brought her over to my room. She was surprised as well. Later, the second plane crashed into the second tower and that's when we were sure it was an act of terrorists. We weren't sure how our friends and relatives were because the people closest to us were in Korea then, but I believe we called my uncle in New York City in the district of Queens--which is pretty far away from Manhattan. I think we couldn't get connected because the phones were down then(which probably most people experienced). The first significant thing that happened to me as a result of the attack was the increased security at the airports when I was returning to the States. Security personnel were much more stricter than they used to be and it took forever to get through security. Over time we forgot about the attacks but every year the anniversaries remind us of the incident. 9/11 was like the events of terrorism going on in the Middle East today. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: My sister turned on the radio around 900a and heard a plane had hit one of the towers of the World Trade Center. As she told me she walked over and turned on the TV and we watched in horror it was on fire and the second plane came in and hit the other tower. Unable to believe what we were seeing we were stunned. The rest of the day we were glued to the TV. The sad part is that it was my youngest daugter's 28th birthday. We had planned to all go out to dinner to celebrate her birthday but instead everyone came to my sister's house. Our families and one of our brothers and his family gathered in the living room joining hands making a circle. We went around the circle and everyone said a prayer even the youngest who was 7. Those prayers were so touching and especially the children as they prayed for the people in New York and Washington and our country. The birthday was celebrated by a family together in prayer and love. The next night we went to Houston's First Baptist Church for a citywide prayer service that brought all faiths and nationalities together. On Friday of the same week we stopped at 700p at a restaurant and were led in a prayer by the owner. Candles were lit and red, white, and blue ribbons were handed out to wear. The following week my husband and I traveled to Washington, D.C. and went up on a hill that overlooks the Pentagon where a makeshift memorial had been set up. There were bears, candles, flowers, photos, letters, and memorial services programs for some of the victims. There was even a baby stroller tied to a tree. The huge black hole was gaping open in the Pentagon but the beautiful colors of "Old Glory" gave hope and pride. As we traveled from Houston and back we participated many times in efforts of support for the victims of the terrorist attacks on our country. We signed two huge posters at the Natural Bridge in Virginia that were being taken to New York and Washington sponsored by a local radio station. Then in York, PA we hought water and other items at Walmart to be taken by huge trucks from Walmart to New York that very day. We bought homemade baked goods from firemen outside Lancaster, PA and donated money at several restaurants along our route to go to the families of the victims. Seeing the flags on cars, businesses, homes, farms, and churches gave us such a feeling of solidarity all across our country. We stand together and have a wonderful nation that we are not about to give up. Prayers are still being said for the families of those we lost on 9-11-2001 and their loved ones will not be forgotten. Tell us your story: I woke up to my favortite disc jockey on the Kiis FM radio station speaking with a serious and sad tone of voice, instead of his usuall funny, and uplifting laughter. In my ten years of listening to this man I had never heard anything but an energetic happy man. I was scared. I jumped out of bed and went to the living room to turn on the t.v. I was horrified. In shock. The day outside was the most beautiful September day, but most people were in their homes glewed to the t.v or listening to the radio while on the road. I drove around looking for a store that sold American flags, but I went to a few before I could find one. I found the small flags with wooden sticks at a grocery store. I bought two, one for my car and the other for my house. Everything was so surreal, sadness overwhelmed me and tears were puouring down my face. Never had I felt such impotence and genuine pain for thousands of people unknown to me. My heart ached, and still does for all the inocent lives lost. A couple of days later when I walked outside my building our American flag was being displayed by all the apartments around. It was beautiful. I was filled with pride, hope and love. This day shook America, but didn't break it's spirit. We all united to get through this, and we all did it with genuine love,and love seeks to protect and aid; it is unselfish, and it moves us in miraculos ways. He was becoming frustrated because he could not reach his office's web site. (I was not working online.) The only message was that the site was down. At approximately 10:00 am our time (1:00pm in the east), we turned on the television. For the first instant, we thought we were tuned in to a movie or a movie advertisement. Then the horror struck. Title A name given to the resource September 11 Digital Archive Stories Description An account of the resource This collection is the bulk of the archive, representing the reactions and experiences of thousands of individuals beginning in 2002. 911DA Story 911DA Story: Story Tell us about what you did, saw, or heard on September 11th. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: On September 11, 2001 I was sleeping when my mom woke me up and told me something terrible had happened to our country. The world trade center in New York had been attacked by terrorists. Even though I was only nine when the world trade centers were attacked, I felt like I understood just how bad it really was. The time it actually happened it was about 4 in the morning at my house. My mom told me I needed to come upstairs and watch the TV, becaue almost all the channels had news coverage showing video footage or plains flying into the twin towers and then the towers finally crumbling and falling to the ground. Even though it was about six in the morning, I was still really worried about what had happaned. The 11th was a school day, so despite all my protests I did have to attend that day. I'll never forget that day either. When I got to school (I was in 4th grade) my teacher was crying when she asked us all if we knew what had happened that morning. She then kind of discribed it to us and asked if we had any questions. The whole class was silent. I kind of only paid half attention to my teacher the rest of the day because I was lost thought. I thought about all the people that worked in those two buildings. I thought about my uncle Cliff that owned a Deli right across the street from tower one. I think I was in shock. This shock would later turn to feelings of being scared, and further on down the road I felt rage against the stupid jerks that had killed thousands of innocent Americans. Today I think my feelings are a mixture of hate for the terrorists, and sorrow for the people that lost loved ones. I'm also very happy to tell you that my uncle Cliff is still alive today.
