Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: It was an unusually clear and beautiful late summer day. The air was just crisp enough to beg for an early morning jog. Two neighborhood friends and I were clearing the last leg of our usual Battery Park route, when a plane flew too low straight over our heads, causing Jon to jokingly duck. Seconds later, I heard the bone-crushing sound of massive amounts of metal colliding. It simultaneously assaulted my eardrums and rose up from the earth--where it registered a low-level earthquake. I have never heard such a chilling sound, and it stopped us cold. We turned to see the entire top of the World Trade Center?s North Tower engulfed in flames, a second after the impact. The ball of fire collapsed to reveal a gaping black hole, at least 10 stories high, its jagged edges licked by flames. We all stood stupefied, absolutely unable to process the information we were receiving through our eyes. There was an eerie silence that lasted for several minutes, during which I thought it must all be a hoax. Then began the sirens and ambulances, at first just a slow trickle, soon a flood. It wasn?t until I heard the sirens that I knew I wasn?t hallucinating. Jon and Julie and I speculated with others on the jogging path about what had happened. Many seemed to think it had been a plane that had innocently lost its way. ?Buildings simply shouldn?t be that tall,? one woman concluded. I had to side with those who had more ominous thoughts: a man in a suit said that plane was not anywhere near a normal flight path. A hysterical woman cried ?Terrorists!? over and over, and I was inclined to believe her. Glued to this terrible image of the tower on fire, none of us could ever have imagined that it would not stop at that. Jon and Julie and I walked closer to home, our eyes glued to the towers that are fully visible from almost every street in our neighborhood, which lies only a few blocks north of the towers. Stunned, we stood in the street, along with the hoards of others that were making their way north and streaming out of buildings. The South Tower still stood calm and serene against the brilliantly blue sky while his twin brother burned. And then, out of nowhere, inexplicably, an explosion in the South Tower as well. From where I stood I could not see the second plane approaching, and it seemed to me an internal explosion. I was now frantic-- running up and down the street unsure of what to do or where to go. I ran upstairs to my apartment to call my family and boyfriend to do the mutual check-up, and then turned on CNN, to see what the establishment--apart from the chaos and wild speculation I had just fled on the street -- had to say about the attacks. It was then I learned, from reporters that still knew little else, that the Pentagon had also been hit. Now truly terrified, I ran back outside--passing a woman cradling a baby, immobile with fear and tears on the stairwell, begging for reassurance that the building was secure--to join the crush of people on the street where I felt a certain safety in community (and at least the promise of mobility). It was then I heard someone scream, ?Oh my God, people are jumping!? Surely, she was mistaken, taking the bits of debris falling from the building for human bodies, an understandable leap in this day of disbelief, but impossible. No one would ever jump out of the World Trade Center. And yet, I turned to look, giving in to that strange human impulse that draws us watch. I saw a lone figure on a very high floor hanging out the window, frantically waving a white flag, or T-shirt, beckoning the rescue helicopters that would never come. I then saw two people, unmistakable human bodies, their black figures etched clearly against the hard sky, hurl themselves from what I later learned was a fire upwards of 1500 degrees. I can only imagine they were choosing a death slightly less heinous, a death that gave them in their last moments at least, a few more breaths of freedom. There were many others after that, each followed by a collective scream from the helpless on-lookers below, but I could not watch any more. There is a coffee shop and magazine store in the heart of Tribeca that serves as a sort of village square-- people gather here to gossip, exchange information, and connect with their neighbors. It is a block from my apartment and it was here I now fled. The streets of my usually sparse neighborhood had become crushed with the hoards fleeing from the disaster from below and those who had come for a better view. I was relieved to see the owners, Mary and Fred, a lovely couple dear to many people, and several other familiar faces gathered around a small TV. For the next 15 minutes or so we ran from the door to watch the towers and back to the TV to hear the reports. The terror was palpable. Then, suddenly, a scream rose from the crowd on the street and we all ran out just in time to see the first building collapse. A huge ball of dust, debris, and paper rolled up the streets and stopped a block short. In a panic, Fred locked the door to his cafe, and screamed at everyone to run for their lives. All of it impossible, impossible. Hysterical, I ran two blocks to Jon and Julie?s apartment. On the way, my boyfriend miraculously spotted me and we were thankfully reunited. He had been evacuated from his midtown office building and walked all the way downtown to find me. Even though I knew he was far from the danger zone, I thought the whole city could be under siege, and was unbelievably relieved to see him. That night we camped out at Jon and Julie?s, along with Lee, another friend from the neighborhood. We were all too scared to be separate. After watching what must have been 14 straight hours of CNN, never sure whether or not we should evacuate our area, we dropped into a fitful sleep. The next day we watched from the roof as another building collapsed and the fires raged on. The wind shifted and suddenly all the thick soot and smoke that had been blowing to Brooklyn yesterday filled Tribeca, and the apartment. We all fled, unsure when we would return, and became refugees at the homes of parents uptown. Chris and I have since returned to our apartment as the air quality has improved somewhat. We have everything--electricity, phone, water, TV--which people only a few blocks below us do not. The area is virtually a war zone however, with police checkpoints where we must provide ID to prove we are residents of the area, to streets still littered with thousands of office papers from the WTC, scattered by the blast and ominously singed around the edges. The emergency workers, police, firemen, and National Guard out number the residents at least 50 to 1. The only vehicles allowed on the streets are theirs. Food stores are tentatively opening, and some restaurants are serving limited menus to the residents, since both delivery trucks and people without a neighborhood ID can?t get in. In a way, I don?t mind the ordered chaos that shapes my neighborhood, my home, so much. Sept, 11, 2001 was filled with sights I will never be able to forget, sights no one should ever see, and it all serves as a daily reminder that I?m not crazy, I am depressed and anxious for a very real reason. My neighborhood has not ?gone back to normal? as our politicians are all urging us to do. It never will, and neither, I fear, will I. I drove into worked, parked in my regular space and headed to the office which is right next to the Sears Tower. I remember hearing something on the radio about an explosion in New York and thought to myself, that it was probably something electrical. I had no idea. To backtrack a little, when I pulled into the garage, I asked the attendant had he heard anything about something happening in New York. He said no. I went to work. When I arrived I was instantly bombarded by a couple of my co-workers who wanted to know if I heard about what happened in New York. I said yes, thinking that I was pretty much up to date on the issue. Then I saw the televised coverage of the events... live. I initially saw the first tower on fire and then I saw this airplane just bash straight into the second tower. I really can't put into words everything I felt at that moment. When I saw how the plane crashed into the second one, I felt a piece of me die. I mean there were people in there. Young, old, Black, White, Asian, Indian, Hispanic, rich, poor... human beings. It was all so unbelievable and still is. Then I saw people running, screaming, crying, jumping out of windows. It was the most devastating thing I'd ever seen during my 36 years. At that point the tears came with an immense sadness which I am still trying to deal with today. That grief was for those in the Pentagon and the commercial airplanes as well. The events of that day really brought to life the fact that we are all truly connected. I never realized that I could be so effected by the loss of those that I have never met before or knew in any way. My feelings went beyond simple human compassion, but my very spirit and soul had been struck in the most horrendous way. I sure that I not only speak for my heart but for the hearts of every decent American. Needless to say my grief was later accompanied by fear and we all spent the rest of the morning trying to get home especially since we were right next door to another targeted building. For anyone that is familiar with Chicago, then they know how congested the downtown area can be. That day approximately an hour after the attack, it was a virtual ghost town except for the roads which were packed with people who like myself who were trying to get home to be with and in anyway protect those they loved and then thank their God,in a most unselfish way, that they were blessed enough to be able to see them again. I started watching the news at work and called my wife about it. I was amazed that someone lost control of a plane and hit the building. I was watching the news more as I was hanging up the phone with my wife and I thought to myself what would my little fire department do if a Hi-Rise structure was hit in my town. Could we get the fire under control?! I remember watching on when all of a sudden the other plane was being shown coming in and hitting the other tower! I immediatly thought to myself that this was no accident, it was intentional! I called my wife back and told her of this as the news was reporting that another plane had struck the Pentagon. My wife thought immediatly that something was wrong from my first phone call to her. I had no clue until the second plane hit. I remember my boss asking me about 1 hour into the burning, "what is that smoke coming out of the bottom for?" I looked at the TV screen and to my horror, and before I could get it out of my mouth, the building came crashing down. I remember thinking like the fire fighter I am, about pancake collapses, and the dust, debris, and asbestos being lifted into the air. I also thought of my brotherhood of fire fighters being trapped, smothered, burned, and crushed. I started praying at once and went to school to pick up my children and nephew as my wife and I felt better with them being at home. I was glued to the TV all the rest of the day and week because of the rescue effort involved. I remember Mayor Guiliani talking about finally going to body recovery and my heart just sank for all the families. I also was caught remembering the famous statement Roosevelt made when Pearl Harbor happened. "Today is a date that will live in infamy." At that moment, I was living in Colombia ? South America. I was working when everything happened. Suddenly, my boss called everybody and gave us the news. We immediately turned on the television. All the channels were explaining that the United States had been attacked. All the people in the company stopped working. All of us were frozen watching the news. It was horrible to see those imagines over and over. We did not know anybody that died in those terrorist attacks. However, it was a sad day for all of us. For a month, we had masses in honor of all the people who died on September 11, 2001. Additionally, the president of our country (Colombia) ordered that every day at 10:00 am everybody should observe five minutes of silence. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: It was my Junior year at the University of Michigan and classes had only been underway a little over a week. Barely awake, I dragged myself to class for yet another day of Arabic Grammar; not quite my idea of a good time. Class was from 8-10:30am, and we went about business as usual. It wasn't until after class, on my way to lunch, that I first heard of anything that was going on. A student ran by us as we waited for the cafeteria to open "We're under attack!" Confused, we all went into the lounge where there were about 25 people huddled around the television; the World Trade Center Tower was on fire...then, we saw the second plane smash into the second tower. I was in shock. My first thought was "please God, don't let it be Arabs or Muslims who did this," for I knew all too well what the repurcussions would be if that turned out to be true. Stereotypes already abound here in the States, the "land of the free" and "home of the brave," and all I needed as an Arab-American was to be thrown into a collective scapegoating gauntlet as people's dispositions quickly changed from shock to anger. Being a Muslim, I know that Islam is a religion of peace, love, and respect. No Muslim would ever do such a thing where so many innocents would be killed. Nevertheless, the media was was quick to paint Muslims as ruthless killers and as dangers to society, save a pathetic footnote stating otherwise. In general, people were quick to feel that Muslims must hate the United States. Yet, what I did not see was an active attempt on the part of most people to look into reasons for such hatred, or research into the Muslim faith to see if roots for such violence or hatred exist. Clearly, if one were to conduct such research, Islam strictly forbids such acts of violence and aggression. I must say, however, that I did see an unexpected effort by many people to learn more about Islam and to question the attackers motivations for such actions. In the wake of things, I didn't personally suffer any serious violations of my personal or civil rights. However, I know of many, many others who have. Furthermore, with the passing of the Patriot Act, and other such legislation, the rights of US citizens are being compromised every day in the name of "the war on terror." What is happening instead is the singling out of Arabs and Muslims all over the country, the denial of their rights, and the gross mistreatment of them and their families. I feel like I am being constantly watched. I was born and raised in the USA, and I don't even feel like I am home. People give us wierd, suspicious looks, the "random checks" at the airport always happen to pick me, and the government reigns free to trample upon and bury the most basic rights that our forefathers died to establish as the roots of this great democratic nation. As I stand today, I am confused. I am sickened by the liberties taken by the government in order to create the illusion of protecting the people. I am disgusted by the violations of civil and human rights that occur every day. I am beyond tired of the media and its very biased and selective coverage of news events. And I am uncomfortable because I feel like a stranger in my own country. This is the land of no colors, the home of diversity, or at least it is supposed to be. Rather, what I have known to be a segregated and divided country is even moreso now than ever. I don't understand how we are all supposed to live in peace when we are always doubting and questioning our neighbors. What about innocent until proven guilty? Evidently, Bush and co. thinks it okay to compromise these basic tenets that have upheld our justice system for so long and replace them with "guilty until proven innocent." How conveniently dyslexia can come into play... Honestly, with Ashcroft trying to dip his greasy fingers into every piece of legislation coming across congress' table, I am deeply concerned about the future of America. Once we start to compromise the rights and freedoms the Constitution guarantees each and every one of us, then the great ideas this country was based on become just that; ideas. Memories. The past. We are on a road to nowhere my friends, and what makes this country so great will soon change, and you may as well move to a socialist country. But I hope to God that doesn't happen. I hope the American people will realize that once the rights of one group of people go, it leaves the door wide open for them to be next. Freedom, liberty, and justice for all cannot be compromised for fear, loathing, and insecurity. What needs changed is foreign policy and the way in which we deal with the Middle East and the rest of the world. Perhaps then so many people won't hate us... September 11th, 2001 sure changed many things...for me, it opened my eyes a little more than they were before. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: Viting had been very slow that day. We had anticipated a slow day, but not as bad at it had been. Finally around 11:00 am, someone came in to vote and said they just couldn't believe what was happening. In case you didn't know, it is illegel to have a radio or television or even newspapers or magazines inside the voting rooms. This is so they can't possibly see or hear anything that might influence their vote. Anyway, when we asked what was going on, they said that the World Trade Center had been hit by two seperate planes. That was all we knew for another two hours. Then we heard that Pittsburg had been attacked and about an hour later, we were told that there was a plane near Cleveland that was suspected of being held in control by hijackers. All of of thought that the whole United States was going to be attacked, little by little. It was one of the most terrifing days in my life. I wasn't afraid for my life as much as I was for my family and friends. It wasn't until the polls had almost closed that we heard that all planes had been ordered out of the sky and that just New York, Pennsylvanis and WashingtonD.D. had been hit. I say just because we had anticipated a much larger attack. When there wasn't anyone in the voting room, we all bowed our heads and prayed, even those of us who are not very religious. I came home that night and turned on the television. I watched in horror as I saw the planes go into the buildings and even more horror as I watched people jumping to their deaths to get away from the fire. It was too much for me to comprehand and I had to turn it off. I was tired but knew I couldn't sleep. I called my children, all who live in other states, and my sisters. We were always in touch with one another, but it was important for me to talk to them. I became angry over the next few days. I have always considered myself a liberal. In fact, one of the standing jokes was that when I get cut, I bleed to the left. But at first, I just wanted to close our borders at least for a while and find those who are in the country already illegaly and do with them what we must. I'm ashamed to say that I don't know if my feeling have changed that much over the past year. I had been playing with the idea of a family reunion and 9/11 gelled it for me. Thankfuly, none of my family were harmed. We have since had two members of the family go to Afganistan to fight, but they have come home safe. I wish that were true for all of the people. Right in the middle of a song, the dj cut in and said "I have just received word that a plane has struck the World Trade Center." I was like Oh My God. I went down front and told the counter girls to turn on the TV, a plane had just hit the World Trade Center. Darcy was like, you're kidding right. I said no SERIOUS, turn on the tv. On CNN they had live footage of the smoking tower. I was feeling really sad and scared. As the newscasters were showing footage and talking, another plane came and hit the second tower. I started to cry. I was so sad I felt NUMB. It seemed as if we were watching scenes from a movie, but it had really happened. I went back to my work area, and listened to the radio broadcast, they went to live feed from one of the news stations on tv. I kept crying and thinking Oh My God. Then when they announced that a plane had hit the pentagon, and one had crashed in Penyslvania field, under the assumption that plane was headed for the White House. TERRORIST.... HOLY SHIT...... I felt the need to just go get my children from school and hug them and hold them tight. After getting my children, I just talked with them, hugged them and kissed them and held them and asked them to say prayers for the victims and their families. I couldn't sleep that night, just thinking of the tragedy that had occured and couldn't help but think what else would these evil people do. I was so afraid. In closing I would like to say that every night in my prayers I ask that God be with the victims, their families and loved ones as well as to be with the police, firefighters, and everyone who helped to save people after this horrific series of attacks occured. I also ask God to please give us strength to live our lives without the fear of terror. The morning of Sept 11th, I was watching Sam (who was then 8 months old) and we were doing as we normally did...playing, singing, and having fun. Oddly enough the phone that morning was ringing off the hook. I wasn't answering it because I usually let it go to the machine, but I also wasn't paying attention to the people who were calling and leaving messages. After about 6 messages, I heard Sam's grandfather on the line saying, "We haven't heard from John yet, call me when you get this." I had no idea what he meant, but I knew that John was Sam's uncle, his father's brother. The phone immediately rang again, and it was Sam's mother, Cathy. She asked if I had seen the news, to which I replied no, and she said to turn on the tv and have her husband call her the minute he got in. I hung up the phone and turned on the tv, not knowing what I was going to see. And there it was, both of the Twin Towers on fire, with headlines saying airplanes had just crashed into them. I was absolutely appalled. I honestly didn't understand what was going on, so I called my father. As he was explaining that they thought it was a terrorist attack, we both watched as the first tower fell to the ground. Neither of us expected that, and all I remember saying was..."Oh my God!" I hung up with him after a bit, and sat glued to the tv. I didn't know what to do. Finally, Sam's father came home and I found out that the reason they were worried and were looking for his brother John was because he worked on the 27th floor of one of the towers. The did eventually hear from him. He had gotten out very early when everything began to happen that morning, but he couldn't find any other way home but to walk. Not to mention that his cell phone wouldn't work, so he was finally able to call later that afternoon when he made it home. My day at work ended very soon thereafter because Sam's mom came home, she needed to be with her family, and they didn't want to keep me there. I just remember driving home, completely blank. It was like my head was spinning with the images and the thoughts of what I had seen and heard, but that it wasn't really happening. That it couldn't have happened. I think a lot of people felt that way. There was a dead feeling everywhere you went. And everyone seemed to just be moving and working in a monotonous fashion, only because they had to. I remember several years ago my parents telling me how they remembered exactly where they were and what they were doing when President Kennedy was shot, I know now what that feels like. I will never forget that day, the things I saw, and heard, and the way I felt in the midst of all of it. When I turned it on I wasn't sure of what I was seeing. There was a tall building on fire and I admit I didn't recognize it at first. I thought it was a plane crash that was happening somewhere else in the world. As I listened I realized it was one of the Twin Towers that was hit. It still didn't seem so bad at first. It looked like just part of a floor was on fire and that most everyone would get out. I felt so bad for the families of the people on that floor, not yet realizing the horror that was to come. Then the newscasters started telling the statistics of just how many people worked there and could be in that building. Everyone was wondering if it was an accident or something worse. Then, as I watched in disbelief, another planed crashed into the second tower. I knew instantly that none of it was an accident...this was an act of terrorism. I remember crying and saying, "No...you rotten bastards", and wondering what else could happen next. I called my parents and my in-laws to let them know what was happening. I was glued to the set...I felt so helpless...I wanted to do something...anything...but I just sat there watching and waiting. Then the Pentagon was hit. One of the stations was reporting that a journalist was on that plane and had called her husband before they crashed. I kept wondering how many more planes were going to crash and thinking, "What if some of the passengers could do something. If they knew the planes were being used as bombs, couldn't they do something?" I knew it was just a desperate thought...how could anyone do anything if they weren't prepared or trained? Then the towers fell....first one...then the other. It was incomprehensible. How could these gigantic skyscrapers just collapse in on themselves and come crashing down...floor by floor crushing everything inside? I thought things had been horrific up to that point....then I knew what horrific really was. It was seeing the Twin Towers being hit and burning, over and over again on the television. It was hearing how many people worked in those towers each day. It was watching people jump out of windows to their deaths, because they couldn't stand the burning heat in the building. It was watching the Pentagon being hit and knowing there were more planes unaccounted for. It was seeing United States citizens and United States icons being destroyed by people with hate in their hearts. It was especially, watching those buildings come down and knowing there were people in them. Knowing there were police and firefighters in them who had risked their lives to get as many people out as they could and in doing so had lost their own lives. It was the shock of seeing all this unfold and knowing we couldn't do anything to stop it. And then it was seeing that the last plane unaccounted for had crashed and there were no survivors. As the stories started rolling in about cell phone calls from Flight 93 passengers and what they had said, a picture of heroism started to unfold. It started with the police and firefighters that had gone into the Twin Towers and continued with the passengers of Flight 93 who tried to retake the plane so no more people would die below. It continued after that day with the men and women that dedicated themselves to cleaning up Ground Zero and accomplished it before a year had rolled by. 911 was such a horrific tragedy...but out of the ashes we have become stronger as a nation and patriotism has made a true comeback. Citizens are feeling more connected to each other as we have all experienced this together. Terrorism did not accomplish it's objective. Instead of making us cower and flee the region the terrorists came from... we went in there and went after the cowards who were hiding in their caves. We are not a weaker nation as they hoped.. we are stronger and feel more connected to our country than ever before. May God Bless America! Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I was at the beginng of my sophomore year at East Stroudsburg University. I had Physical Geology at 9 a.m. that morning. As usual I awoke at 7:30 to shower and get ready. I never turned on the t.v. because my roommates were sleeping. I left my room at approximately 8:45 a.m. to go to class. We all sat there through the whole class not even having a clue as to what was going on in New York or in Washington D.C. After my class I had a meeting to go to. I met my sister as usual before the meeting and that is when I found out. She told me that planes had crashed into the twin towers and the pentgon. I remember her mentioning something about being attacked. I did not think she was serious but she insisted she was. We went to the room where the meeting was to be held, but no one was in there. Everyone was in the office glued to the t.v. That's when I first saw the replays of the planes hitting and the first tower collapsing. I was in disbelief. We eventually had our meeting and when it was over my sister and I went to eat lunch. We both had a class at 12 (we were actually in the same class). When we arrived at class and were waiting to go into the classroom someone came in and said that classes were cancelled and the university is closed. I really did not believe that the university closed because it is very seldom that the university closes. I went back to my residence hall and asked my resident director if the university was really closed and she said yes. That's when it hit me. This really did happen. For the first time that day I was truly frightened. Everyone was calling my room- my mom, my great aunt margie, and my fiance. I was espcially worried about my fiance because he worked in Allentown, one of the bigger cities nearby. I was not sure what would happen next. Would there be another attack or was it over? For the next several months I was frightened each time I heard a helicopter landing at the nearby hospital or even a plane flying in sky. Tell us your story: Thoughts on the first anniversary of 9/11/01 I remember watching horrified with the world as the Twin Towers burned and then in unbelievable slow motion, crashed to the earth. I remember screaming alone in my TV room, no, no they didn?t do this, no no no. It is exactly one year later. It still seems unbelievable. I had watched the Twin Towers being built. I worked on Wall Street and from my 26th floor office I saw them go up, floor by floor. Year after year they grew, and one day, amazingly, they were done. I commuted to work for three years through the basement of the buildings, walking out to the Plaza and to my office. Then one year I left NYC and moved to Boston, returning only for fun, like seeing friends, or going to the theatre and once, attending a wedding at Windows on the World. This loss of life, this loss of community, was so enormous. The sorrow is so deep; the pain so strong; the death so pointless, so unnerving. I felt so powerless to do anything. I didn?t know what to do. I vowed to carefully read every single obituary in the New York Times because I felt I owed at least this to each one. I wanted to try to remember the dead, and give their deaths meaning and importance as long as I could. I felt grateful to not have known anyone killed on the planes or in the buildings. I read obituaries for eleven months, and then one day I read an obituary of someone I knew.. And then the significance changed again, and I grieved more personally for a lost soul I remembered from long ago I was compelled to visit Ground Zero immediately. I had to look at this hole, at this devastation and searing horror. I wanted to see it straight on. So I went to New York two weeks later in September 2001. And I took these pictures that I send. The pictures cannot possibly show the pain or destruction or magnitude of this event. And more than anything, they cannot reveal the horrible smell. The acridity of the air, intolerable to breathe, burning and searing ones eyes so you could not stay looking because the pain was so great and the smell of death and destruction so powerful, it was impossible to be there and feel alive. It was an intolerable act leaving an intolerable devastation. The fences were just going up and the signs of restriction and posters of the missing tacked everywhere. Cables had been laid down in the streets to restore electricity and water. Piles of flowers and caps and teddy bears and despairing love notes laid out waist high in memoriam. Thanks for the well wishes and prayers. The memorial services were beautiful and the Flight 93 Crew Monument is amazing. I'm glad many of you enjoyed my commentaries and or sightings on ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, C-Span, Action News, etc. It was a sad and emotional day to say the least... A man came up to me after the memorial service and told me he saw me on the "Today Show." He said that my comments made him want to pay respect to those who perished on Flight 93. He drove 2 hrs. to the crash site. I received this link when I got back today. It's very powerful. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: The morning of September 11th of 2001 started out as a regular day; I was getting ready to go to school. For some reason, I turned on the TV that day. I usually never watch TV before school, but that morning, I decided to see if there was anything interesting on. To my surprise, there was news coverage on the Twin Towers on every single channel. At first, I had no idea what was going on. I saw images of two, tall buildings on fire, but I didn't know what had happened to cause such a thing to happen. My parents were in the living room watching it when I was about to leave for school. They told me that a plane had crashed into the Twin Towers that morning in New York. At my high school, that was what all the commotion was about. My Biology teacher brought in the TV for us to watch during class. The whole schedule at school was off that day. No one really wanted to teach or learn while there was so much disaster going on. Innocent people were dead, firemen and policemen were working hard to rescue others, hospitals were full with injured victims, and all around the world, people were asking, "Why did this happen?" What happened on September 11th was a very tragic thing to have happened to our nation- the United States of America. We lost our sense of security, and nothing would ever be the same again. I was sad that such a terrible thing had occurred and hoped that all the families who were affected more deeply than mine would be able to cope with the disaster. It was a horrid nightmare to many, and I truly hope that it would never repeat itself again. I was upset. I went home and watched the news. At first I was very sad but then that turned into anger. I felt like going to Afganistan to find Osama. A year later I am still very upset that we havnt found him and that other countries are not letting us invade Iraq. I hope that these events end terrorism around the world. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I was seeing my now husband off to work. This particular moringin I actually stayed up (usually I would go back to sleep). I turned on KTVU news (which I do every morning) and saw something unimagiable. A plane hit World Trade Center. It was crazy and amazing. By this time everyone was spectulating that I was an accident,etc. Until I saw the second plane hit, and I knew something was seriously wrong. I got the kids up and proceeded to go to work, with a fastily beating heart and nerves. I didn't want to frighten the kids, so I took them to school. I proceeded to work and the bus, but it seemed like no one else knew what went on but me. When I got to work, I was informed from a co worker that a 3rd plane hit the pentagon. I received a call from my kids school that parents needed to pick up there children since America was under attack. When I got home, I explained to my kids what happened and they understood. Thank God for Nick Jr. channel it was the only one that wasn't broadcasting the attacks. 9/11/01 is a day I will NEVER forget.
