I got up at 5:30am to make it out of the house by hopefully 6:30am to make my treck up Rt. 66 to Rt. 123 to Tyson?s Corner. Like I said it was an unusually smooth trip that morning, and an absolutely beautiful day so far. I got to work a 1/2-hour early and did my running around for a 1/2-hour before I got pinned down to my desk. I am the receptionist, "greeter", for any guests that come in and love my job. I have a beautiful view of the world outside my 8th floor window, over looking the Tyson?s Galleria; I can see the Washington Monument and parts of Maryland and DC. About 9am people are running up to my desk asking if I knew anything about the plane that hit the Trade Center tower or if I knew where a TV was. I logged on to the internet and went to CNN.com and saw the pictures and was in a little bit of shock, but wasn't too worried until one of my co-workers ran from one of the back offices and yelled "THEY JUST HIT THE PENTAGON!!" I started shaking. Then wondered where is my husband! I tried calling him and never got through, he is sub-contracted to the government. My boss finally got the news up in our VTC room and just about everyone in the company was in that little room, I got in there just in time to see the towers fall. I just started crying, hoping that none of my family that lives in NY was in the buildings. I got threw to my aunt that lives on Long Island and she said that she and my uncle were fine but couldn't get in touch with her girls, 1 in NY on the island w/her husband, 1 in NJ w/her husband, 1 in Mass, and one in Louisiana. Anyway, I found out later that I have an uncle that works at the Pentagon, and he was ok but a bit shaken up. No one left our company that day, even though we are part of one of the largest defense contractors in the world. I started hearing that FDNY lost a bunch of fire fighters in the towers. I started crying. I used to be a volunteer for a company in Fairfax County until I injured my back and couldn't do it anymore. But I know that I am still part of that "brotherhood" of fire fighters, even if I am a woman. I know that this is a bit jumbled, but this is how I am remembering the day. I finally heard from my husband, he was on at a coworker?s house and would be home shortly. He was telling me that about the time that the Pentagon got hit, he and a co-worker were headed up 66 to 495. They were listening to the news on the radio about the towers and all of the sudden traffic came to a complete halt and then said that he saw state troopers flying up the shoulder and then saw like 6 - 8 big black SUV's the size of a Suburban speeding by him. He and his friend were scared. Then he heard that the Pentagon got hit. I hadn't heard from my father and he works at Dulles Airport for the Airport Authority. I finally heard from him about 4:30 in the afternoon. The phones barely rang all day and I was glued to CNN.com and MSNBC.com for any more news and still shaking and keeping an eye on the skyline for a plane headed to the Washington Monument or worse toward Tyson?s Corner. I finally was able to leave work at 5:30, my normal time, now knowing that the day was not a typical workday and knowing that there will never be a typical workday again. I cried part of the way home and finally pulled into my drive way about 6:15, I got into the house and my husband held me as I sobbed and we watched the news for anymore information as to what was going on. I heard from everyone that I needed to that they were safe and sound and home. I will never forget how I felt and how scared I was at the time. To a point I am still scared, but knowing whom I believe in, I know that I will always be safe if I run to His love. For the days that followed, the guys that I work with, some of them ex-military, wanted to join the fight for our freedom. I know how they feel, if I could have continued with the FD I would have done anything to help. And to this day, I keep an eye on every plane that goes over my head or that I see. Thinking to myself, "is it going to happen again? Or what building could that one run into?" Prayers to all those who lost someone continue to pour from my heart and I will never forget the day that our world was shattered by someone else's selfishness and hatred. The cable guy was coming to hook up our digital cable. The cable guy arrived between the time that the second plane hit the north tower and the south tour collapsed and I wouldn't let him shut off the cable. Then we heard about the plane going down in Pennsylvania and that made me kind of worried about our families who live there. Then I was glad to hear that no one on the ground was hurt in Pennsylvania. 2. Has your life changed because of September 11, 2001? If so tell us how. Yes, I have gotten strip-searched at the airport and I no longer carry a nail-file when I travel. 3. What do you think should be remembered about September 11th? Certainly, all the people that died, the innocent people that died. I hope that the United States government will learn and tighten immigration. 4. It was my sister calling to ask me if I was watching Good Morning America "of course I am,why?"I asked "did you see that plane that flew into that building in New York?" she asked. "What... What are you talking about?" I asked. At this point I'm getting slightly irritated with her "Patricia "A plane can not just fly into a building" I informed her.At this point she's getting very excited and trying very hard to convince me that this really did happen.While I'm listening to my sister I'm also walking back to the TV set to see exactly what's going on. Okay,I'm watching.I hear and see the replay for myself. Tell us your story: Blood Donor's September 11th Story ?Jean Zettler Blood Donor I confess I never even thought of going down to the Pentagon to volunteer - partly through fear, and partly because I don't have medical training and didn't have disaster response training. I did try to give blood however. But since the phones were so overwhelmed at both the Red Cross and Inova Blood Donor Services, I finally just got in the car and drove over. I'd been told when I was much younger that I could not donate blood for health reasons, but decided to see if things had changed - and they had. Since there was a long wait at the Inova Blood Donor Center in Annandale, I offered to volunteer, like many others. From 2 p.m. until about 1 a.m. the next day, I stacked drinks, got ice, passed out food and did anything else I could to feel I was "doing something". I wasn't the only one. I experienced the incredible outpouring of people's humanity and need to come together: people who waited for over six hours and into the early hours of the morning to donate blood, people who brought their whole families to wait, although children were not eligible to give blood. I experienced seeing the extreme disappointment on the faces of people who were turned away from donating; watching the dedication of the medical staff who got less than three hours sleep between Sept. 11 and Sept. 12. I was amazed and overjoyed at the generosity of individuals who brought juice and cookies to the center, as well as the plentiful contributions of local restaurants and businesses - including a towing service that packed the back of one of their trucks with ice, juices and soda and kept it outside the center all night, with the truck radio broadcasting the news to all the people outside on the grass who could not fit inside the center, but were still waiting to donate. If I hadn't volunteered that day, or the next, I would have missed seeing people come together like they did. I would have missed seeing the adults and children desperate to help out and do something while they were waiting and the young boy so thrilled when I asked him to pass out the pizza. I would have missed, on Sept. 12, the young Army private who came to give blood as soon as Fort Belvoir stood down and he could leave the base. And although the Blood Center initially said they had their limit for the day, they allowed the young man to come in. After all, who knew where he might be in a month, and he needed to think and feel he might be helping himself or someone else in the military who might need the blood. And I think it helped both those donating blood and the medical personnel to see "a man in uniform." If I hadn't volunteered those days, I would have missed heart-rendering scenes like the man who served in Vietnam who left the Blood Center in tears because they would not let him donate blood since he had hepatitis in Vietnam, yet he felt he wanted to do more for his country. I would have missed the American Airlines flight attendant who had been given the wrong directions on the evening of Sept. 11 for the site of a candle lighting vigil for American Airlines personnel to remember their colleagues who had perished earlier that day. The flight attendant was embarrassed to come into the waiting room of the Blood Center in her uniform, concerned that the sight of her might disturb those waiting to donate. And I would have missed meeting and talking to other volunteers, such as the State Department employee who was supposed to have headed back to his post the morning of the 11th, but since that was not possible, he came to give blood and stayed for two days, doing anything from directing traffic in the morning to turning people away at night. Yes, I cried a lot that day and in days to come. But some of my tears on Sept. 11 and 12 were tears of gratitude that people were as eager as I was to reach out and help the potential victims of the day's events. And in doing so, we helped each other slowly come to grip with the day's events. Since Sept. 11, I have taken the disaster preparedness training offered by the Red Cross and become more involved in crisis/emergency management issues and duties, as well as donating blood on a regular basis. How did Sept. 11 affect me? It made me realize how much I had to feel grateful for, and that there were things I needed to do, such as DAT training and giving blood, so that I wouldn't feel as helpless should something similar happen again. Of course, I've been donating blood on a regular basis (every 8-9 weeks) since 9/11/01. After taking a quiz in math, my friend Mahmoud, told me that the world trade towers were hit bit planes, and also that the pentagon was hit too. I didn't know what to think. I thought that it was just something minor. Some type of freak thing going on. After math i went to my room, turned on the television right as the first building crumbled. I was completely stunned and continued to watch the television for the next six or so hours until i got a headache from the glow. It was truely an experience that i will never forget. Since I couldn't get back to sleep, I read through Stephen King's "Insomnia" (a book that, ironically, also featured a fanatic plunging a plane into a crowded place to stress his beliefs). I headed off to school at around 7:30 AM. I was in 2nd period Latin when they announced the horrible news over the speaker system. Before then, rumors about what had happened were circulating throughout the school; mind you, I hadn't heard any of them. The announcement was brief and full of fear. The secretary in the office told the entire school that two planes had crashed into the World Trade Center (at first, I thought she was referring to the Boston World Trade Center, which is so dinky that it can barely be considered bomb-worthy). After the announcement, I remember turning to the person next to me and saying glibly- no joking- "I bet you that the person behind this has the initials OBL." I truly didn't realise how bad it was until someone brought in a TV and showed us the footage. The two towers were burning up. People were jumping from the wreckage to avoid being burned to death. And then, the towers came crashing down. I then knew the extent of what had happened, but I didn't really know how sickening it was. That sensation came during 5th period. They showed us more footage- including a video camera shot of the second plane careening right into the second tower. That was when I felt the bottom of my stomach drop out. I thought to myself, what kind of merciful God could allow this? Why was this happening? I made my way down to the front office, and made a call to my mom, asking her to pick me up as soon as possible after school. She did, and we drove home. I tried to escape from what was going on outside, but I couldn't. Every radio station was broadcasting live coverage of what had happened, along with every television network. I barely remember making it through the rest of the day. Then, I finally went to sleep, the reports from my radio talking on in the darkness. That morning we were going to Silver Dollar City, we had about an hour until they opened so we went to a little shop. When we went in a woman was saying a plane had hit the world trade center, at that moment I never thought it was an act of terrorism. Before we left she ahd said another plane hit, at that moment I knew something was really wrong. When we got in the van we turned the radio on and heard the whole story. At that moment even though we were hundreds of miles away from it, I no longer felt safe. The rest of the vacation we listened to the news on the radio and watched msnbc in the hotel room. Later when I was driving from Lamonte, MO to Kansas City, MO to go to work I passed Whiteman Air Force Base, there were a couple of times I saw the bombers leave. Every time I saw one I was terrified. Now even though a year has passed everytime I hear a song about that day or see footage I can help but get teary eyed. I don't understand how anyone can be so evil to do that, to so many innocent people. I turned on the news to see what was going on in the world. He first tower was already hit and as I watched in amazement I saw te plan hit the second tower. My heart litterally stopped. Tears burned my cheeks and my thought was let me see where my loved ones were. The phones were down and every few minutes could a call go through. After talking to myfriend and finding out he was okay I proceded to call my family. My heart stopped when my godmother informedme tha my cousin had a eeting at tower two tht morning. We tried her office and her cell and there was no answer. Iwent into panick mood. In the meantime friends were calling to find ot who needed to be contacted. Finally around 10am w reached my cousin. She said the meeting had been cancelled and her and her co-workers were fine. I had another friend simone who worked close by. My mind went immedately to her. Her father was tying to reach hr also. Not until 11pm id we get word that she was ok. She was caught in the dust and was treated at a nearby hospital but was then released. I did lose a friend patrick who worked on the 85th floor. His body was never rcovered. That day I held my three yearold son closer than ever. Life is so precious. We must lear to cherish every moment. Tell us your story: The time is about 8:00 a.m. I'm driving to school, listening to the radio, when a DJ comes on during a break in the music and announces that an aircraft had just hit the World Trade Centre. Suprised, not yet shocked, I dismissed it and thought to myself, "I wonder how bad it is." 8:30 a.m. I'm in class, discussing what I'd heard on the radio, when my instructor walks in and informs us that a second plane hit the World Trade Centre. Everyone in class, shocked, let out a collective, "What?" and promptly ran downstairs to watch the events unfolding on CNN. For the next three and a half hours of our day in school, everyone in school crammed into the small waiting area adjacent to the front desk and watched, in utter amazement to some and horror to others, the unbelievable video footage. I was in absolute shock. I couldn't believe that something like this was happening; it truly seemed surreal, like something out of a movie. I will never forget the videotape of people walking northward through the city, attempting to escape the inferno of ground zero. It reminded me of the movie Independence Day. The most horrifying footage was yet to come. As reports came in of a third aircraft hitting the Pentagon, a fourth crashing in Pennsylvania, and unidentified aircraft still in flight over the New York area, the thirty or so people in our group of onlookers gasped as the first tower fell. A friend of mine yells out, "Oh my God. It's gone. GONE!" Seemingly as quickly as the first tower fell, the second one crumbled into devestation, and two buildings I never in my wildest imagination could ever forsee being destroyed were gone. Just like that. As the military scrambled their fighters to ward off any additional attacks from the sky, I thought to myself, God have mercy on the dumb son of a bitch who did this. I had made plans for sometime prior to attend the International Comics Art Festival in Bethesda, Maryland, outside of Washington DC starting September 12th. Part of my planning for the trip was taking my car to the shop to get it ready for the 800 mile drive to D.C. from Detroit, which I had done before my 3rd shift on Monday the 10th. I took a taxi into work that day and got a ride home from a co-worker after my shift ended at Midnight. This meant that my car, usually in the driveway was not there the morning of the 11th. My plans for the 11th included waking up a little earlier than usual (for me that would be about 1:00pm), get ready for work, call a cab to go get my car from the shop. From there I would vote in the Detroit mayoral primary elections, go to work, come back home, get ready for the trip and go to bed early so I could leave for D.C. for my vacation starting the 12th. At least that was the original plan. The early morning hours was uneventful for me as I was clearing up a number items of personal business on my home laptop computer. The last bit of email I sent was sometime around 6:36am that morning on the 11th before I called it a "night" and went to bed. As I slept the world changed around me. About 9:30am, my mother, who lives across the street from me, called up and left a message on my home answering machine about the World Trade Center attacks. It would be the only message I would get during this time, but I was sleeping through it all and did not hear it. Around 1pm, my father called my mother at home to have her check on me. He was worried about me because he knew about my upcoming trip and he did not see my car where it usually was when he left for work that morning. I am sure many things wild and not so wild had crossed his mind wondering what happened to me. So my Mom came to see if I was OK. I woke to the sound of keys opening my front door. Normally I would not have heard such a sound from another end of the home, but I had already conditioned my internal biological clock to wake up then anyway, so my mother ended up beating my alarm clock by a couple of minutes. I laid in bed wondering what this was all about when she approached my room. Not hearing my usually rather loud snorring, the first questions she asked me was, "Junior, are you alive?". I thought she was being funny and responded that I was but was getting up soon anyway. "It is terrible!" she said. "Terrorists have highjacked airlines and flew them into the World Trade Center. Both towers have collapsed to the ground. They flew a plane into the Pentagon and it is on fire. The whole world has turned upside down!" I sat up in my bed and said rather somberly, "You know what this means? This means war." After my Mom told me the reason on how she got here she went back home knowing I was OK. I got some clothes on and went to turn on the TV and signed-on to the internet to read some of the first email reactions of the events. After only a short while, I got ready for work and called for a taxi to pick up my car. The driver and I only talked ever so briefly and I arrived at a rather empty auto place to get my car to go and vote. I get to the local grade school to vote, and the voting volunteers (all of whom I have seen for years) and the school principal were talking about the days events. I went to vote and being totally disgusted with my choices for mayor, I wrote myself in. Before I left, one of the ladies, whose son and I went to grade school with, asked me how my brother was. My brother is an officer in the Army stationed in Germany and she knew about where he was. As far as knew, he was OK I told her, though no one in the family had talked to him yet. So now my thoughts dwelled on my brother and his future as I went to work. All the TV's at work were tuned into the news instead of the Weather Channel, watching the horrors as World Trade Center 7 fell too late that afternoon. My mind was a daze. I asked to leave early, I was not thinking clearly and wanted to get out of there. My boss allowed me to go. So I began my vacation. On my way home, I went to get gas and found the local stations had not raised their prices much, but the lines were long. Everyone was filling up it seemed. I got home and signed online again, I quickly inquired and the ICAF convention had been cancelled. I had intended to share my hotel room with two other friends. One was scheduled to fly in from France, so I emailed him hoping he was not stuck on a runway in Nova Scotia (since all international flights had been diverted to Canada). He emailed back and was still in France. My friend from Nebraska then emailed me to confirm that the room he had gotten for us had been cancelled as well. The Hotel had called him when they knew the Festival was cancelled and because they need the rooms for people who were stuck in town due to cancelled plane flights. They were making sure we were not coming. We weren't. I watched the news. And continued to watch the replays of the death and destruction. The President's speech to the nation, news reports from CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, MSNBC, PBS, CBC showed more and more of the same all night. I wrote some of the angeriest email I have ever wrote. I was calling on a World War II style war to reshape the entire Muslim world like we reshaped Germany and Japan to those who wished to listen to my rant. I vented my anger (and sadness too) in word to all those who would listen. Those who knew me knew I was in my own pain. It was not thoughts my liberal-Democratic self would normally entertain they knew and deep down inside so did I. And I spent the night watching more TV. The early morning of Wednesday the 12th, about 6:30am daybreak, I went outside my home after my father had driven off for his work day again. And I looked up. The sky was clear. Totally and completely clear. I live nearby one of the flight plaths to Detroit Metro Airport. There was NO jet trails in the sky. None. I have never seen a completely empty sky before. I was dumbstruck. I soon went to bed for a few hours woke up and watched the TV and basically repeated the routinue for the next four days. On Thursday the 13th my Brother called me and the family. He was on base when everything happened and the base went into lockdown for the next two days. He was home long enough to get a good meal, see his wife and child, get some clothes and head back. He would be working 7 days until further notice. On Friday the 14th I remember getting all choked-up seeing Bryant Gumble getting choked-up after they played a tape of the British Royal Family's Honor Guard band playing the Star Spangled Banner at Buckingham Palace. I saw the same band only 3 months prior when I visited Europe that previous May to see my Brother and the sights. I found myself glad I had took my trip in the Spring instead of the Fall. By Saturday the 15th I decided I had enough and cut my vacation short and go back to work on Sunday the 16th. I had enough TV. It seems so much a haze now, almost a year later as I write this. I still find myself absorbed in anything about the events of 9/11 (one of the reasons I am here writting this). And I wonder if this need to read more and more of what happened may symbolize some sort of mental anguish on my part, or if it is a healthy reaction to the horrible events of that day? I do not know. I feel well enough now to start criticizing the President again anyway. I am also glad that the anger I had in my words then were never transformed into deeds. And my Brother is doing just fine right now, though in the middle of a peace-keeping operation in Kosvo. "It is a slightly quieter corner of hell.", I like to tell him. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: Before I begin I really would like express my sympathy for all of the lives lost and the families and friends of those people. I will always remember where I was and what I was doing on September 11. I was working in a high rise building in down town Milwaukee on the 22 floor. Although the attacks were far I could feel it as though it were right down the road. I remember seeing several people glancing at the tv in the corner conference room. As I look to see what everyone is gaulking over I see a plane (2nd plane) hit the world trade center. I was in awe. I then see the words "possible terrist attack." All I could do was stare at the tv. We are located 1 block away from the federal building and so we were evacuated within 1 or 2 hours of time. All I wanted to do was collect my family and get to a safe place away from downtown. It seemed like hours to get anywhere and to call everyone I knew. I remember being glued to the tv and trying to figure out what in world was going on. It was such a confusing time and I think I felt every emotion that could possibly be. I can't say that I was at any of the places that experienced these terrible attacks but I will never forget and I am still very scared and saddened. I kiss and hug and say I love you many more times then ever. I think I have done more reflecting on life this past year then I ever have in the past. We are all possible victims and you have to treat each day with value and love. The teacher wasnt there yet, so i decided to drive across the street and get something to drink. I had just bought some pina colada tea and i turned around and saw the first tower on tv with fire coming out of it. It took me a while to register that the world trade center was on fire, then i heard the comentator talking about how a plane had crashed into the world trade center and it might be terrorism. Then the second plane crashed into and it became certain that it was terrorism. I couldnt believe it. I kinda always thought of terrorism as something that happens in movies like delta force and stuff like that. My friend and I drove back over to school and told everyone that both world trade buildings had been hit by planes. Nobody believed me at first. Then we all went to chapel after first period and the chapline told everyone that the country is under attack and that the first tower had already fallen and that the pentagon had been attacked as well. After chapel we all went to class as usual, but nobody did anything but watch the crisis unfold on tv. I went to the student center and as i walked into the tv room I saw the second tower fall and about half the room was crying and the other half had their heads buried in their hands. One of my friends from the tennis academy was from ny and both of his parents still live there. He didnt really talk to anybody for about a week or two and i only saw him once that day. He told me about how he couldnt get a hold of his parents because the entire united states was trying to call ny and there simply wasnt enough room for his call to be transfered. Trip Strickland came in and said that a plane had flown into the world trade center. I thought at first that it was simply an aeronotical accident. Then I went into the locker room and turned on the radio. I then heard that another plane had flown into the WTC. Then I knew that their was something else envolved. As the day went on during all of my classes we listened to the radio and found out about United flight 93, and that a plane flew into the pentagon. I was woried throughout the day and all i could think about was who was resposible for this. That night i didn't have anything on my mind but what had gone on earlier. I watched T.V. non stop for the next 3-5 days. The night of 9/11 i listened to a song by Led Zeppelin called the Imigrant Song. The lyrics showed my emotions perfectly. It was full of hatred for the apposing people and sympathy for my fellow americans. One of the things that stuck out the most in my mind were the endless amount of people showing pictures of their family members praying to get some information about them. You could just tell that all hope was lost. In fact one of my co-workers a tRandall's Grocery Store on Bee Caves and Walsh Tarlton lost his brother. He had previously lived in New York with the rest of his family. His brother worked in one of the towers and was one of many that were killed that day. I always leave the tv on the news and when I walked into my room my sister was calling me. I had my back turned to the tv and she began telling me what was happening and just as I turned around I saw the second plane hit. It was like the breath was stolen out of my lungs. I have two best friends that live in Balitmore and who are both in the Navy and I immediately thought of them. I then thought of all those poor people who were probably trapped. I began right then to pray silently to myself that everyone was all right. I knew I had to get to work to find out more of what was going on, and it seemed like the only thing to do. All the way to work I listened to the radio. Switching from station to station looking for some good news about what was happening. I think I was in shock for almost a month. I slept witht the tv on every night turned to cnn or msnbc. I constantly called my two boys in Balitmore to ensure their safety. I also did a lot of crying. I didn't know anyone who perished in this devasting event, but I love my country and my freedom and I grieved for my fellow americans. I know I will never know their pain. I thought it was a joke because the particular radio station I was listening to is know for playing practical jokes. Once I got to work, I asked my co-workers if they had heard anything about a plan crash at the World Trade Center. They too thought it was a joke until we turned on the television and saw the image of the first plane hitting the building. It was a horrible sight! People were jumping out the building. We just couldn't believe it. It had to be an accident. We couldn't have been more wrong. Just then, a second plane hut the second tower. America was under attack! Ijust started praying for God to protect us and to help people get out safely. Then news of the plane at the Pentagon came on followed shortly by the plane in Pennsylvania. I just started cryuing and praying even more. Things in this country have certainly changed since that dreadful day. We have come together as a nation. People who normally wouldn't speak to one another have become friends. American's now look out for their fellow man. We also take the liberties of living in this great nation more seriously. I pray that we continue to grow and that we never forget the sacrificies others made that September day in the year 2001. Tell us your story: At about 9:00 a.m. on September 11, 2001 one of my 4th grade students came running into my room after delivering his Science homework to one of my colleagues. He said that there was something important on tv and I might want to turn the tv to the news. (We have tv monitors in our room for the daily annoucements, videos, and our clock. We also have access to local channels, but they are rarely watched.) I changed the channel to one of our local affiliates and immediately saw Tower 1 in flames. We watched as the second plane hit Tower 2. The kids didn't understand the magnitude of the event they were watching, but all the teachers did. We found ourselves often in the hallways to get updates and to hide our tears from our students. I was on the phone with my mother checking on my family members when she screamed that one of the towers was collapsing. It was a horrific day. The uncle of one of my students worked in the Pentagon. Fortunately, he was fine. The brother of a friend of mine was a firefighter with Ladder 3 and perished in the Towers. It is truly a day that will live in infamy. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I am a Major in the US Marines. On September 11, I was stationed at Headquarters Marine Corps at the Pentagon. My office was immediately adjacent to the wedge that was struck. I had just returned to my desk from an office where I had seen the WTC towers get hit. It was 9:30 a.m. I was about to go and get a bottle of water from a snack bar when my phone rang. I almost didn't answer it, but something told me I should. It was my Brother, James J. Webber Jr., an American Airlines pilot. We discussed what had just occured when, at 9:45 a.m., I felt a severe "shudder" and heard two distinct explosions. I told my brother that something had just happened and that I had to go. We evacuated the Pentagon in an orderly fashion and immediately noticed the black acrid smoke rising from the bright orange flames. We made our way up the hill toward Arlington Cemetary when I noticed plane parts scattered over the ground. We made our way to Henderson Hall Marine Base where we began to notify the rest of the Marine Corps as to what had just happened. We worked throughout the day. I had attempted several times to notify my family, wife and four kids, that I was O.K. but to no avail. I finally made it home at about 3:00 P.M. and had not felt the trauma of the earlier events until I saw the faces of my wife and children. (Special note: The snack bar that I was going to go to was severly damaged in the attack.
