Tell us your story: Hello, my name is Sidony and I am 14 years old and this is my story.On the morning of September 11th I was getting ready for school, as usual. At about 8 o'clock central time ( it would have been 9 o'clock in New York) I got a call from my dad at work, he requested that he speak with my mom. I told him she had already left for work. So he told me to turn on the television, so I did. I turned it too CNN, and i saw a horrible sight of the first world trade center on fire and smoke bellowing out from all directions. I stayed on the phone with my dad a little longer. At about 8:10 I saw the second plane hit world trade center 2. My heart sunk, I couldnt believe what was happening. My dad had to return to work, so we hung up. Thats when the building one (tower one) started to collapse and I would say that building two (tower two) had started to come down about 5 to 10 minutes later. Started to cry, I couldnt imagine what those people went through. The one's viewing all of this, the one's one the planes, and the family of the victims. shortly after the towers collapsed I had to leave for school. I was worried about what was happening. I had no idea about the pentagon or the plane that hit in shanksville, pennsylvania. When I got to my first period class, we turned on the televison and watched for about 15 mintues, by now its about 10:15. This is when I found out about the pentagon and the plane that hit in pennsylvania. Later on in the day (after school got out), I went home and watched even more T.V., Its all just a blur to me now....... I remember sitting there in my living room in total shock..... finding out that people had acutally over come the terroist and crashed the plane into the ground killing themselfs and many others,to save the white house. I am pretty sure they had no idea that it was heading toward there, but I think they had a gut feeling. I had never seen the tours in person, but my dad said the were the most shocking buildings in the world. My dad has been to the 104th floor twice. It was a horrible day for my family. For awhile we couldnt get ahold of our extened family out on long island, it was devestating, and thats my story. I hope we all come together and decide to rebuild those towers to show that we are a strong nation and nothing is going to break us down! Four planes were hijacked while two were flow into the Twin Towers. The other one was crash into the Pentagon and the fourth crashed in Somerset, PA. This day was a shock to all Americans around the world. This tragedy killed many Americans. Ever since then the whole world has been afraid of another terrorist attack. Ever since 9/11 I myself and many other people are scared that we may be bombed. September 11 has affected our generation because of what it has done to our Nation as a whole. It has put too many people in fear and has hurt people badly, especially those who lose friends, family, and other loved ones. Our generation is constantly being pulled closer together, but not we have all become almost one big family. I feel this way because usually if we would hear that someone one has died that we would kind of bypass it, but now if we hear that someone has lost somebody during this terrorist attack we can really feel their pain. September 11 has changed me because I feel that I have become more patriotic because I feel that this is what the nation needs right now to over come this tragedy. 9-11 has seriously hurt me deep inside to the point that it is hard for me to even talk about it. I wish that we could show Bin Laden and his gang what he has done to me and America. I know that a wrong doesn?t make a right but in this case I really do think that we should fight back and show how badly it hurts inside. Since 9/11 people in America have lost so many loved ones, and people are being so understanding to what people are going through and people in towns were many people lost family members are taking care of each other by cooking and trying to get those who lost people to think of the better, happier times. In conclusion America has been changed dramatically by September 11 and the bombing of the World Trade Center (Twin Towers). People are being very emotional and cautious about what they say and what they do. I always wanted to go NY i love it, and i used to think when i'd go to NY, i would go there. I think what i'd do,going to the WTC. It was the best of the city for me, it was the heart. The towers.. was the perfect picture from ny, and when i saw this.. I felt so sad, because of the tragedy, and because when i'll visit NY, i won't know it like it really was before 11-sep. I think you must to build something great in the ground zero, a great idea would be rebuild the towers but higher and more beautiful than before. The higher towers in the world, with the same appearence, but higher, greater and better. In the middle of them, the remembering monument of the tragedy. Around 8am the following day a nurse walked into the room and told me that she was suprised that I wasn't watching t.v. I turned on the t.v. to see each of the twin towers falling to the ground. I was so shocked that I didn't know what to say. I will always remember that my son was born a day before something happened that made the world change. Also, my oldest brother, Tim, and his girlfriend were going to Poland around that time. My mom knew that the two of them were flying on a plane similiar to the ones that flew into the twin towers, but she didn't know what route they were taking to get there. I believe it was September 12 that we found out that there plane was supposed to be going to Washington D.C., but they got re-routed so they were safe in Poland. They were saying that a small plane had somehow flown right into the tower. I could not imagine how in the world something like that could happen! As I sat there watching, a second plane came flying into the second tower and paople were running for thier lives and screaming in disbelief! I felt as if somone had jerked a rug out from under my feet. I just sat there frozen to the television. I watched as they kept playing the scene over and over. It made me feel sick to my stomach. All I could think about were the people trapped in those two burning buildings. The horror they must have felt when they realized they were about to die. I then thought of my own family, safe and secure. I felt very selfish because I could hug and kiss my husband and children..... too many could not. I cried for most of the day....... I prayed that God did not let those people suffer that were on the floors of the impact. Well, a year has passed and I still hug my family a little tighter each day and Thank God that I have each day with them. I wish I could just wrap my arms around each one that lost a friend or loved one that day and take away thier pain and grief. My heart goes out to each and everyone. All I can do is to remember all those that were lost in my prayers and I do that each and every day. I have seen a lot of death in my time, but the only thing that keeps me going is the fact that one day we WILL see them again. Oh.. what a reunion that will be! I also thought that God must have really needed an abundance of angels on 9/11/01 because he took so many. May God continue to Bless and keep each and everyone safe. I had been in the office for 30 minutes when my cell phone rang. It was my mother telling me a plane had hit the WTC. As she gave me reports about it being a possible accident, a second plane had just hit the second tower. I remember feeling a little scared and was thinking if we could be under an attack. I got off the phone, turned on a hand held TV and watched in horror as the 2 towers burned. Then breaking news again, the pentegon was hit by a plane too. Now I was worried that government facilities were targets and I was in one. Security had all customers leave the building and then locked all doors. Later the employees were sent home. As I drove home I thought of the families of the loved ones in those buildings and planes. I began to wonder how many lives must have been lost and started to feel a huge sense of loss. I sat and watched TV all afternoon. I remember how quiet Omaha sounded because all aircraft nationwide was halted. I live not far from Eppley Airfield and Offutt AFB (Stratcom), so air traffic is the norm. Later that day I picked up my daughter from High School and as we waited at a red light we heard an airplane. Suprised by the sound we looked up at the plane, it was Air Force One caring President Bush to his next undisclosed destination. He had just taken off from Offutt AFB. My thoughts and prayers were with him as he flew away with the weight of the country on his shoulders. The reported made the statement that this would certainly be on the news all day as she made the report.I was just arriving when I heard the news about the second crash. I am a counselor for clients in a transitional living program. We kept the television on in our kitchen all day and most of the day our staff was watching the news as the story unfolded. We also planned how to help our clients as they heard the news and processed what was happening to our country. I called to check on my grown children and put the safety of my school-age child in God's hands. I had to believe that my children were all going to be safe as I helped our clients grieve and I talked with other staff. It will always be a day that I remember we can never know what our future holds. Shortly after 8:30 am...while driving to work, I heard the following two statements on the radio..."It's a beautiful day...get out there and enjoy it".....and "we've just had a report that a plane has hit the World Trade Center" Arriving at work, and not yet having the details, I and my coworkers speculated that it was probably a little Cessna or something, maybe that someone was trying to fly between the towers as a stunt and missed. By this time, the TV reports were coming through and we all gathered to watch the news in the bosses office. We saw the second plane hit and knew it was not an accident, but that we were under attack. People were trying desperately to verify the whereabouts of friends and relatives who worked downtown. Around 10 am, our pension department received a call from a retiree, who, knowing that Fiduciary Trust (located in the Trade Center) was the issuer of the pension checks, wanted to know if the attack would affect his receiving his check! About an hour after this, while I was outside the back door smoking a cigarette, a limo pulled onto the side of our building, three 25-30 year old men in disheveled suits with ties loosened got out, and proceeded to urinate by the bushes. One of them said to me "don't mind us...we were lucky to get out of the city!" My own reaction to the attack suprised me...I have always been interested in History, and often thought how it would be to go back in time and witness a historical event...but that day I did NOT want to drive toward Manhattan to see what was happening...all that was important to me was to get home safely and be with my wife. There are never many days that go by before I remember what happened that day, what I saw, and the strangers I encountered that day. I thought oh my god this is unbelievable. At the same time same time my cousin called to tell me that she saw the plane fly by her office window. Her sister, Lashawana Johnson worked in the towers and so she immediately called Lashawana to tell her to get out of the building. Lashawana told her sister that they were told to stay in the office. Tawana pleaded with her sister to get out and Lashawana told her that she would. The last anyone heard from Lashawana was when she called her mother (my aunt) but got her brother instead and told him that she loved him and to take care of her children. See Lashawana had 3 wonderful kids the youngest had just turned 2. She would go to work 6-7 in the morning to start her work. She would be there to see the sun rise and set. I miss her terribly. The whole family misses her. There is no closure for my aunt and some of my family members because we did not have a burial. We cannnot go and visit a grave. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: In Chicago, attending a trade show at McCormick Place. Best Friend had a boat down at the Marina next to Navy Pier. He wakes me up telling me to get up. "I'm Up" still lying in the front berth. He yells at me again to get up. I get up, only to see my friend staring at the TV. The 1st plane has hit the tower. The second plane hits, all I can remember is saying over and over "uh my God". We start watching the Sears Tower, wondering if this skyscraper is next. I watch the tower starting to buckle. Horrified. I tell my friend, the buiding is going down, look at it starting to lean, then they collapse. we keep watching the TV then the Sears Tower. We couldn't turn away. Scott decides to go to the convention center. I ran a mile to Navy Pier where my father worked. We sat together watching the TV in the block house, they start to close down the Pier and tell everyone to go home. Its 11:30a, we leave the Pier and the entrance to the water treatment facility next door is blocked by rows of salt trucks and guarded. I feel so lost, I'm with my Dad, if something goes wrong, we're together. I'm trying to see the Sears Tower. We're leaving Chicago, the expressway is empty. so strange. We stopped at a pet store, we didn't know how to comprehand what just happened. We were lost, not knowing what to do, how to act. We stopped at a corner tavern, had some beer glued to the TV for 3 hours. 3pm, 10 of us all glued to the TV. So lost. 2 days later, my boss and I rented a car and drove back to Florida. I can remember everything, every detail. The world changed on 9/11. My heart goes out to all the moms, dads, sisters, brothers, friends that were lost that day. Now I'm mad. I thank every service person I pass at airports, thanking them for their service and protecting my family. I was aghast....in shock! Could it be true? The first plane hit, and I seriously thought the air traffic controllers had misguided a plane, then the second plane hit, and instantly I knew something had gone wrong!! I immediately called my close friend who at one time lived in New York, and who still had family there. I said to her, "Are you watching the news?" Her answer was "NO". Then turn it on I said to her, a plane has just crashed into one of the Twin Towers. Even though I was far removed from New York City, it was as if I was there! i couldn't do anything that day, except glued to the news all day and all night, and I continued to watch the t.v. non-stop for the next few days! My belief was if terrorist could hit the Twin Towers in New York and no one stopped them, anything could happen any where in our country. This event has made us all more aware of our land that we love America, and even though others have tried to destroy us --it has united us....United we stand!!! I was sitting at home that morning, watching the news when they had a "special report" about a plane "accidentally" crashing into the World Trade Center. About 2-3 minutes later another plane crashed into WTC 2. I remember just screaming so loud that I woke my fiance up. He was pretty upset. I was crying and trying to tell him what I just saw on the t.v. I don't think he was awake enough to realize what I just said. I had to go to work that day, in downtown Chicago, just 2 blocks away from the Sears Tower. I remember calling my co-worker, telling her about what just happened, and being on the train, when most people starting screaming that "ANOTHER PLANE JUST HIT THE PENTAGON!!!!" Even on the train people were crying and screaming. I remember just thinking to myself "what am I doing????" YOu see, I was 6 1/2 months pregnant at the time. When I got off the train, I immediately went to a store to buy a radio that I could play at work. When I arrived at work, my co-working was trying to understand what I had told her when I called. I turned on the radio I just purchased and a little later found out that WTC 2 had crumbled to the ground. Just then, a customer came into the store I worked at, and acted totally oblivious to the morning's events. I started yelling at him."How can you be shopping at a time like this??? Do you not know what's going on??? Do you realize that we are being attacked??" He left. My regional manager called and gave the orders to close the store and " Get the Hell" out of the downtown area. I arrived home a short time later only to be bombarded with images of people falling to their death and the towers to come crashing down. Then I heard fighter jets flying overhead. I just remember thinking to myself that if I wasn't so far along in my pregnancy, I would have an abortion. I didn't want to bring a life into this crazy world. I didn't think we would be around for much longer. I was glued to that T.V. for the next few days, until my fiance said that was enough, I shouldn't be watching this in my pregnant state. I did have my child, a healthy boy, but he will never be able to live in the world that I lived in as a child. And I worry about what the future will hold for all of us as a nation. I wonder if he will ever be able to grow up. I wonder what questions he will ask me about that day and what I will tell him. I walked groggily out into the living room. I saw the plane crash into the second tower. Cool Movie I thought...then I saw the the words CNN Live go across the screen. My jaw dropped and I fell to the floor. My Uncle was in New York on business that week, and I had no idea if he was ok. I sat and prayed for almost an hour, then picked up the phone and called my Aunt. She said he was fine. He had taken a train out of Manhattan earlier that morning. My family was one of the lucky few to have him returned home safely, and we know that. But I still grieve for those who were lost. I did not know any of them personally, but they were my brothers and sisters. They were all Americans. Now it is one year later, and I remember it like it was yesterday. Those towers crashing...They might've won that battle, but we will win the war. I saw something that touched my heart today...a comic strip in today's paper. I was shocked and saddeded for many reasons. Scared for our nation and saddened for those who had lost and were losing their lives. My father was in ill health at the time and I wondered how he felt as he'd served proudly in WW2. He always said, "I just don't know what to think of the world today"...he was 83 and he died the following Feb. I found myself alone after work on 9/11 and not able to share my saddness w/anyone. Infact I was far away from the attacks at the Trade Center and Pentagon, yet near the flight in Somerset County PA. I was sitting at a computer typing up the nights assignments in english class at the computer lab. About half way into the class an announcement came on. It was the sound of our scared principle Dr. Martin. She informed us on any information she could give us and at that time thought the Pentagon had been bombed, not crashed into. In every class jaws were dropped and eyes were staring at the horific pictures showing on our TV's. No one knew quite what was happening,everyone was scared,worried,and anxious to go home. Our eyes were glued on the t.v for a little while after. Nothing was kept from us. We knew right away it had been an act of terror and hate. We couldn't believe it. We always thought living in America would be this perfect wonderful free country, but when the events of 9/11 happened no one knew or believed in anything. A few weeks passed and my friends, everyone around us, and myself had started going on with our lives. It's no exactly one year later as I type this. It was a terrible misfortune that happened and will surely never be forgotten. I grabbed my 1 year old son and headed to my Grandmothers, we were going shopping. When I had walked into her house and she told me a plane just flew into the World Trade Center in New York, we didn't know yet if it was an accident or intentional. When we sat and watched the tv to see what they had said, we saw the second plane, all I could do was hold my son. Then finding out that another plane had crashed into the Pentegon. I don't know if I was in shock or what, we continued on to the store, did our shopping then came on home. Getting back home I turned on the tv and they were showing the attacks, I just broke down crying, so scared that this could happen in my country. And yet so thankful that I have my family, my children and my husband. Over the past year my husband and I have talked so much about what has happened. We are not going to run scared in our own home, town or country. No matter what happens I feel safe living in America and very Proud to be an American. My heart goes out to all the people and their familes who parished in the September 11th attacks, and to all the Firefighters, Policemen and volunteers who put all their time, efforts and hearts into helping and trying to find survivors after the September 11th attacks.
