<text>Our class was sitting in math class on September 11 when our homeroom teacher walked in and told us a tragic event had occured. A plane had flown into one of the World Trade Center building and a little bit later a plane hit the other building. Another plane had hit the Pentegon. We rushed to turn on the TV and watched as both the buildings collapsed into rubble. Several people left the room when the reporters started to talk about war. After school everyone rushed to the gas station to fill up their gas tanks. We sat out the afternoon in front of the TV watching as firemen rushed into the World Trade Center bravely to help save people. And now a year later, I can look back just like it was yesterday and recall what we watched and what was said while we watched the news. Every nighttime show is about the attacks of September 11. Pray for the people that lost loved ones and friends in the attacks, especially the firemen who gave up their lives to save people. </text>

<text>I found out about the attack on the World Trade Center as I was dropping my son of at his daycare. Needless to say, I was in shock and disbelief. I drove to work where we have a laboratory with a 2-story high video wall which was tuned to the live coverage. I will never forget seeing the image of the two buildings against the brilliant blue and cloudless sky, black smoke and flames billowing from the massive destruction. You can imagine my horror when I saw the towers collapse, a burial ground for so many innocent lives - all shown on a 30-ft screen.

As a descendant of many men and women who have fought to establish and preserve our freedom since the Revolutionary War, I experienced every emotion that day, all a result of the act of cowards who would try to take that freedom away. Through the strength of the American spirit and the foundation of our beliefs, they failed miserably!

I am thankful every day that I live in this wonderful country. I am inspired by the selfless acts of so many who helped to save their fellow American that day - both physically and emotionally - on the ground and in the air - and by those who struggled to recover remains so that the dead could be properly honored. They are true everyday heroes who represent the human spirit and flame of liberty that we so love.

I believe that we, as a country, have done our best to honor those lost lives, and it is our duty to ensure that such senseless acts of violence never happen again on our soil. I will work to do my part, including imparting my memories of this day to my son so that he may know and will remember. God Bless America!

<text>On September 11,2001 I was on my way to the court house for a hearing. I left home at 8:40 before I got to the end of my block there was an annocement on V100 our local radio station that there was a tradgic accident with the twin towers. At that time we were under the impression it was an accident. Before I made it to court the second plan hit. At that time we knew something was really wrong and the nation was put on alert. I made my way to court, and into the courtroom. the judge went into recess to find out details. we were evacuated. At 11a.m I also had an interview, so I checked on my son at school and went to the interview. I was hired but once I got home I was amazed to see the damage done to our country. For the next few days I kept my eyes glued to the t.v. Since this has happened we as a country came together and gave honor to GOD as we lifted the names of all lost. Being a christian I have faith that all lost were not in vain but instead opened the eyes of some many to get ready for the time is coming and we dont know the day nor the hour.</text>

            <elementText elementTextId="85200">
<text> On the morning of Tuesday, September 11, 2001, three-year-old Joshua was watching a movie on our VCR while I relaxed next to him on the couch. I had been babysitting him since he was four months old and I had just started doing daycare in our home. Over the past three years, my five-year-old son Michael and I had grown attached to him.
When the movie was over, Joshua went to find some toys, and I stopped and rewound the movie. The receiver on the VCR was tuned to our local ABC affiliate. As I stared at the TV, I thought the burning buildings were in another country. They had to be. I turned to a different channel, just to validate my theory. Wrong. They were here in our beautiful homeland.
Just then, the first one collapsed. No surprise to me. I had seen the movie. The integrity of the structure was weakened. Of course it was falling. I called my mom. Together on the quiet phone line, we both watched the second tower fall. I hadn?t been watching the news as long as she had that morning. I wasn?t as shocked as she was. But then, as I listened to the reporters talking, I realized that not everyone in the buildings had made it out before they collapsed.
They said that around fifty thousand people were scheduled to be at work in the towers that day. Then they speculated that at least ten thousand people (though now we know it wasn?t that many), maybe more, were still inside the buildings when they collapsed into rubble. Ten thousand people?! At the very moment I was sitting on my couch in my living room, safe and sound, I believed that ten thousand people had died as I watched on TV.
I had never been much of a churchgoer. Even when I was a child, Sundays were spent sleeping in, reading the Sunday paper, and watching church on TV. I grew up with Dr. Robert Schuller and Pat Robertson. I did attend Vacation Bible School at my grandparents? church, and a Good News Club at my neighbor?s house. I believed in God. I just didn?t have real strong faith in him.
Take the election of 2000, for example. I was so worried that my candidate would not win the election that I made myself ill. I called the 700 Club?s prayer line, and the gal on the other end tried to cheer me up. She said, ?Congratulations, you have now officially worried yourself into a complete frenzy!?
She reminded me, however, that God is in control, and she advised me that I ought to find a church with which I can build a stronger foundation of faith. I didn?t end up taking her up on that suggestion.
As I watched the people run from the cloud of dust through the streets, I wished I had. But what good would it do to pray now? The damage is done. What can God possibly do now anyway?
Michael came home from Kindergarten at noon. I normally shut off the TV at that time anyway so that we can eat lunch. The boys played as I fixed their sandwiches. The images from the TV haunted me as I placed the slices of bread together and got out the chips. I turned on the radio in the kitchen, but shut it off. When the boys sat down to eat, I went into the bathroom and cried.
A couple of hours later, as the boys napped, I let the dog outside. What a beautiful day! Sunny, 75 degrees, blue skies, warm breeze. I wondered, ?Is this sky the same one that is over New York, Washington DC, and Pennsylvania?? The neighborhood was quiet; just the songs of the birds and the rustling of the trees. No dogs barking, no loud vehicles, no lawnmowers, no explosions, no sirens, no screaming. I felt ashamed that such violent destruction, death, and horror was just a few hundred miles away, and here I was in my little corner of the land taking in all this beauty. How dare I wallow in my blessings while others were suffering such horrendous losses! Again, I cried.
A friend called me and asked me if I wanted to listen in on a conference call on which people were going to pray. I was on this call when my husband, Jeff, came home from his job as a mechanic. He asked me why I was crying. I asked him, ?Do you have any idea how many people died today??
?A lot... a whole lot,? he replied.
He turned on the TV. I couldn?t bear to watch anymore of the news, so I took Michael to the store to get something for dinner.
Wednesday morning, one reporter put the grim reality into perspective when she said, ?The sun rose on a different world today.? After a couple of hours, I finally turned off the TV again. I tried to focus on the housework only to break down into tears at the thought of all the families whose moms or dads would never again be home to throw a load of clothes in the wash, prepare another meal, or read another bedtime story.
Jeff came home and again turned on the TV. Again I felt the need to leave the house. While I understood that he had been at work all day and was unable to hear all the news, I didn?t want to face it any more that day either.
I also didn?t feel that our son should see the burning buildings or hear about all the gruesome details. It was difficult enough to get him to sleep at night without that. When he was two, he had a night terror, and ever since, despite our best efforts to give him a stable and secure bedtime atmosphere, he has always been reluctant to go to sleep alone in his room.
My neighbor invited me to go with their family to a prayer service at their church. It got Michael and me out of the house, and I really wanted to feel closer to God.
But Michael had a tough time sitting still for the hour-long singing and prayer, so when we got home, I didn?t feel I had gotten anything out of the trip. I was still very sad and anxious, and he was sensing it, too. It was especially difficult to get him to sleep that night.
I didn?t pray often, but when I did, I went to our screened-in front porch. I can?t explain it, but I?d always felt closer to God there. The prayers I have said there have always gotten the best answers. Like when I started daycare in our home. I had asked God what I should do, and I got all these ideas about how to structure our home for a bunch of little kids who would have fun playing with toys on the front porch and running around our fenced-in backyard with our son. Then it happened. I had opened up for business, and within a month I had a full house. God must have been right about it!
Finally, after Jeff went to bed, I set to work picking up around the house and found myself on the front porch, where most of the toys were. Again I was amazed at how peaceful the night seemed. The breeze was blowing through the screens, the crickets were chirping, and the stars were shining. They were the same stars that shone above Pennsylvania, New York, and Washington DC, where workers fought against time to find anyone who may still be alive. Finally, I prayed.
Boy, did I pray. God already knows what is in our hearts, but it never hurts to tell Him anyway. I opened the flood gate to my heart, and out poured a river of fear, helplessness, anxiety, shame, anger, hope and thanks. Through tears and sobs, I told God how scared I was for the world my son is to grow up in, how sad I was for all the people who died and their families, how angry I was at the evil men who attacked us, how I felt we were helpless to stop it from happening again, how I was hopeful that our soldiers, who would surely be sent to find who was responsible, would succeed and be safe, and how I was thankful that I had a life that was so intact when others were destroyed, yet shameful at the same time.
I prayed like that for nearly an hour, until I couldn?t think of anything else to tell Him. When I was finished, I closed my eyes. I imagined God standing with His arms open wide. I envisioned myself placing my face on His chest as His arms closed around me. I could feel the love and security of His embrace, almost as if it were really happening. I remembered that feeling from when I was a child, and my daddy would give me the same warm hugs. Then I got up, dried my face, and got to work taking care of my home with a much easier spirit.
I began attending that church that my neighbors invited me to, and on October 7, 2001, I was baptized.

<text>I was at home on the morning of September 11th. I'd turned on the TV to watch a morning program. The story broke with within minutes. I watched in a semi-numb state as the horror unfolded. The magnitude of the tragedy was obvious. Collapse of parts or all of the buildings crossed my mind. Then, it happened. It was amazing to me that the the number of deaths was not in the tens of thousands, although even 10 deaths would be too many. It wasn't until later that I learned how connected I was to this disaster. Rev. Frank Grogan, of the Order of the Holy Cross, who was a family friend and associate and friend of my uncle Rev. Albert A. Croce, was aboard AA Flight #175, the second plane. I was very saddened by this loss. At age 76, he died too young. He was a vital, energetic, simple, holy, faith-filled priest who was loved by everyone who met him. I soon learned of other connections. Aboard that same plane were the Shearers, a retired couple who'd just moved into their dream home in Dover from nearby Portsmouth, NH. The crash of the AA Flight #11 brought tragedy to the Ford's Landing Condominiums where I live. My neighbor Paul Martin?s sister Karen Ann Martin was a flight attendant in the forward section of AA flight #11 which also carried our fellow Ford's Landing neighbor Douglas Stone, co-founder of Odyssey Press in nearby Gonic, NH. He was a man admired by his partner and employees. In his memory and the memory of all lost on September 11th, his partner and employees built and dedicated an inscribed granite bench and flagpole on company grounds at 8:46 AM on the first anniversary to the minute of the crash of AA Flight 11. </text>

As an ex-New Yorker I had no trouble dealing with the appraisers in the North East so I was on the phone with my New York appraiser when we started haveing trouble with the phones. One of my co-workers anounced in a loud voice that a plane had just hit the World Trade Center. (She had been on line and notification had come over the computer) Most of us thought it was a hoax and said "Yeah, right" then the word came that the second tower had been hit. There was total silence and disbelief. People were trying to call family and friends. I tried calling my appraisers in the North East and was unable to get through (the phones were no longer working). Some of us sat in total shocked silence while others cried, some softly and others out loud. A radio was produced and we stood around it listening and holding each other. Many of us had family and friends in New York and Washington. One girl finally got word that her mother who lives in Washington DC was all right. Another got word that an uncle had been hurt at the World Trade Center. His leg had been broken but it was a few days before his family was able to locate him. </text>

<text>Well I heard of the attack early that morning after waking up to talk to my mother. She told me to look to the tv and see what was happening. My heart just sank. I knew so many people in New York City and that area.

I then glued myself to the tv for as long as i could even remember. Watched CNN untill my eyes couldnt focus on the news running acrossed the bottom of the screen. I had nothing else i could do. I had just had surgery and i was on pain killers so i couldnt give blood. I would have given anything to be there and help.

I was told that two people i knew had been killed. I now have reason to doubt that, ive never heard thier names said. And yet ive never gotten a phone call saying "Im alright". So i guess ill never really know. That in itself is haunting and unnerving.

I had/have what you call "Survivors guilt". Its haunting. For this California girl, New York City and where dreams come true. And i hope that one day i can go there and see for myself what all has happened and make anew.

I will never forget how i felt that day and every day afterwards. And all those people who died that day, from whatever state/country. In whatever state they died. I will never forget...</text>

<text> On September 11th I was at school. Five minuets before school started, about 7:15, I saw a t.v that was on in a classroom. I saw that one of the towers of the World Trade Center was on fire. The bell rang so I had to go to class. I turned on the t.v in that classroom. Before I even sat back down another plane had hit the second building. I then knew that this was not an accident, it was planned.

Throughout the day we were informed that the Pentagon in Washington D.C. was also hit. The Deans and Principal had made announcments informing us what had exactly happened around lunch time. Many students including myself had left school and gone home.Within the next month our school had raised over $5,000 to donate to the familes and victims of the attacks.

The tragedy of September 11th had effected my life greatly. Now because of it war is just a regular show on T.V.Even though a year has pasted, America has come together more as a country, but we are still affected by that day!</text>

<text>We watched everything on TV all day long. Seemed like it just kept going on and on and on. Still seems that way. It didn't seem real, and I agree, that Hollywood could not have done in the movies what was done to New York City on that day.
At first, it wasn't touching me the way it was touching people who had friends and/or relatives die in this tragedy.
I later found out that my sister's best friend in New York City was married to one of the firemen that died that day. My sister was maid of honor in their wedding.
I also have a friend at work whose best friend of 30 years was on the first plane that crashed into the World Trade Center.
This made it personal and the realization of the tragedy finally hit me.
There are no words to adequately describe my feelings. This is a tragedy that has touched the lives of every American. This country will never be the same. The word FREEDOM now means so much more than it did before the tragedy.
GOD BLESS AMERICA and ALL AMERICANS.</text>

<text>I had been up the majority of the night before with our five week old daughter. My sister-in-law was also on maternity leave at the time. Her daughter was born five days before mine. I remember that the house was always so quiet and boring, the baby slept wonderfully during the day. I would sit in front of the TV all morning with a cup of coffee trying to wake up. I turned on the TV that day and thought that my husband must have been watching some weird channel the night before after I'd gone to bed. What on earth was he watching?! Then I proceded to flip. Every channel was the same. I called my sister-in-law. She didn't believe it. A half an hour later she called back. I can't express the emotion that you feel when you have this little miracle in your arms and you realize that there are people on the planet that have no concept of the value of a human life. I couldn't help but think that those people that were dying right in front of us were babies at one time and their mothers would have just been beside themselves if they had known that something like this could happen to them one day. </text>

<text>I was still sleeping when the first tower was hit and my boyfriend woke me up by telling me what had happened. It was weird to hear him say the words "Somebody is bombing the World Trade Center." At that time it was still blurry and we weren't really sure what was going on. I remember getting up and looking at the television thinking it wasn't anything and surely there was nothing to really be concerned about. It was a weird kind of shock. I remember going to Wal-Mart later that day and it was empty in there and all of the televisions overhead were replaying the bombing over and over again. It was like a mutual feeling of depression and loss of hope all at once. I haven't liked where our country has gone since then and I think our society is out of control. It disgusts me!</text>

              <text>
I have been trying to think of a way to pay my own Tribute to those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

I thought of all these ideas & then thought, maybe the best way to pay Tribute is to tell of my own feelings of what I witnessed unfold, along w/ the rest of the world, that in approximately 2 hours, the world as we know it, would be forever changed.....

At approximately 8:50 that morning I was cleaning my house. I'd recieved a call from my daughter-in-law asking me if I had the News on. I said "no" & as I turned on the television, she began telling me that a plane (Flight 11) has just crashed into the World Trade Center. As she was talking, I was looking at the screen in dis-belief. Black smoke rolling..... I was in complete shock. I remember saying something like "Oh my God; what happened?" I was trying to listen to her & the News at the same time. I watched in horror as I realized the all people inside the Tower that had been killed instantly. My mind was racing....I was standing there crying & thinking of those people on the floors above where the plane hit. I knew they couldn't get out either. I remember Praying while listening to the News. My daughter-in-law had stopped talking & we were both in tears & in shock.

I couldn't take my eyes off the television. So many things were going through my mind. I'd been to those Towers years ago when I lived in New York. I knew Thousands of people worked there. I was Praying they would get out alive. Still wondering/worrying what could've caused the crash.

As I stared at the television in horror..... 9:05 a.m., the 2nd plane hit (Flight 178). I said to my daugter-in-law, "We're Under Attack". All the confusion in my mind had just become clear. More tears, more Prayer, more sorrow.....

I was glued to the television. Tears, Prayer....All those lives. Reports were coming in....Terrorists...9:45 (Flight 77) hits the Pentagon. It seemed as though the world was coming to an end. Smoke...People everywhere running in the streets. Screaming, crying.....Reports of people jumping from the buildings....Police Officers....Firemen, all called to the scene.....

9:55 to 10....The 1st. Tower falls....Complete Chaos....."Oh My God Have Mercy"......The Pentagon fell shortly after the 1st. Tower.....Then a report of another plane crash in Pittsburgh.....10:28 The 2nd Tower collapsed....People were covered in dust.....Running...People couldn't breathe...Sometime during the mist of all of this, my daughter-in-law & I had hung up....I can't remember if I talked to anyone else. I can only remember those faces of the people who were there.....watching, dying...people running away...Firefighters & Police running towards....Mayor Giuliani....so many things happening at once.....

I remember throughout the day just watching & feeling so helpless....I just kept Praying....I cried so much ( And still do).....I thought of my family...friends...Were we safe? I remember such an ache inside.....such a feeling of loss.....

It happened on a Tuesday. Tuesday was the night of our Women's Bible Study Group......There was a mention of us canceling it sometime that day I remember but, it was immediately forgotten because we felt; what better place to be than at our Church....My son came over w/ his family....I remember my son in almost a panic.....I remember thoughts of not wanting to scare my grandchildren......

My son was kind of surprised that I was still going to Bible study....I do not claim to know the Bible well (hence my studying) BUT, As my son & I talked, I went to my Bible ( I had no idea what I was looking for...absolute truth!)...I opened my King James Bible to Revelations....I began to read. As I read through it's passages, these seemed to me, exactly what I had witnessed that day......The Bible speaks of the Great City of Babylon that has fallen.....

REV 18:8 Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her.

REV 18:9 And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning,

REV 18:10 Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.

REV 18:11 And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more:

REV 18:12 The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyine wood, and all manner vessels of ivory, and all manner vessels of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble,

REV 18:13 And cinnamon, and odours, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men.

REV 18:14 And the fruits that thy soul lusted after are departed from thee, and all things which were dainty and goodly are departed from thee, and thou shalt find them no more at all.

REV 18:15 The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing,

REV 18:16 And saying, Alas, alas that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls!

REV 18:17 For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,

REV 18:18 And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like unto this great city!

REV 18:19 And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.

(I feel I must make it clear that I, in no way am saying that we are living in Revelations. Many do believe we are but, that is not for me to know. I urge anyone who reads this to read their own Bibles & come to their own conclusions (if any). This is just what happened to me that day. I'm not telling you what to believe etc.)

After reading this, my family found some sort of Peace. This is the only way I know how to explain it. I was more eager to get to Church. I truly felt my little Chuuch would have standing room only. I wanted to be there if I was needed etc. I really expected Prayer vigils. People looking for answers, as we all were. I expected people looking for some kind of comfort to help ease their hearts. Even if there was someone who needed a hug...anything.....

Well, when I arrived at Church......the only people there were the 7 ladies (including myself) who were the regulars of our Women's Tuesday Night Bible Study Group....I was surprised but, not discouraged. Myself & those 6 other ladies had one of the best classes we have ever had & even bonded closer. It seemed the entire day was spent in Prayer.

I will never forget this day as long as I live. I will make sure my grandchildren & their children etc. will know that on September 11, 2001 this Nation became One & The World Shared Heart Break As One....

If anyone wants to share their stories...I'd love to read them. Please feel free to share your story......

Blessings, Susan Galbreath

<text>On the morning of Sept 11, 2002, we were getting ready to head to Bismarck, ND and this was about 7:00 am CST, for my grandson's dental appointment. I had turned on the tv while getting ready, and had decided to sit down & watch the news before we headed out. I was waiting for my daughter to get ready & for her to get my grandson ready. I heard the news explaining about an airplane smashing into the world trade tower. The annoucer was extremely excited & it just didn't seem right of what was happening on tv. I woke my sister, Nancy up, as she was sleeping on the couch where the tv was located. I told her to get up and was unable to grasp what was going on. It was too much of a shock to see that persons had hijacked airplanes & were flying them into the World Trade Towers. Of course we missed my grandson's dental appointment & was not able to get back into the dentist's good graces. </text>

<text>As a volunteer ambulance service, our squad signed on shift at the time of the attacks to cover the EMS shortage in Brooklyn South. Shortly afterward, we were notified by the FDNY Resource Control Center (RCC) to respond to the World Trade Center. Our fastest route took us through the Prospest Expressway to the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel. Midway into the tube, we screeched to a hault. Powder and debris poured into the tunnel from the Manhattan side. We thought an explosive device was detonated. We scrambled in reverse to vacate the tunnel as quickly as possible. As we egressed, we noticed civilians walking out of the debris. Realizing the tunnel was still intact, we stopped and assisted in the evacuation of the tube. In all we got over 60 people to safety before being place on medical stanby awaiting victims. No victims were received in the 14 hours we waited.

<text>Australia is about 16 hours ahead of the USA so I first saw the newsflash at 11pm. My God. A plane has hit the WTC. My big brother is on vacation in NY. He called me from the Empire State Building earlier today. I didn't know where to contact him so I stayed up all night watching the news updates and hoping he'd call. At 6am my time he called in tears telling me he'd lost his friend who worked at the Windows restaurant. "Who's responsible for this?", I asked and he said a name that I hadn't heard before but I think everyone in the world now knows. Bin Laden. I called my friends. Some didn't realise what had happened as they'd gone to sleep before it was broadcast. At that time I had 3 children. I felt sick wondering if any small children had lost their lives. My husband, a giant Cook Islander was moved to tears as we watched people holding up signs showing photos of their loved ones. Photos of happy, smiling faces. People who didn't realise the awful fate that lay ahead of them. Innocent victims in a hateful act of terrorism. On the first anniversary of the attacks my brother was on a local talk show (he's a psychiatrist) offering advice and encouragement to those in need when he announced that his sister in Australia (me!) had delivered a beautiful baby boy. A little bit of happiness on a sad, sad day. People cheered and cried. On the second anniversary of September 11 I delivered another baby, this time a delightful little girl. The lives of my babies can never replace those that were lost but I will teach them the significance of their birthdate and encourage them to lead good, caring lives. In memory of those we will never forget.</text>

<text>I was working only eight blocks away from the World Trade Center when it was attacked. We were all huddled around a television when all of a sudden our entire building shook and the lights flickered on and off. Since I work directly across from the Federal Building my first thought was that it was a plane coming in for that building. When I realized it was the first tower that had collapsed I had no idea where or how it fell and I knew there was another tower still standing so we evacuated our building and started walking north. We walked silently with hundreds of other people in shock. It was so surreal, people gathered around cars with radios on, some looking at television sets in windows of stores and apartments. By then the military had dispatched fighter planes but everytime I heard them I started shaking, thinking it was another highjacked plane. We got as far as the Village when the second tower collapsed. All I kept thinking was "My God, they're gone." At that point my focus was to make it home in Queens where I would feel safe. Every building I passed in Manhattan was just another target. It took me a long time to stop being afraid of planes flying over me but even now, hearing a plane will get my heart beating a little faster. It still breaks by heart when I see that empty space in the sky where the World Trade Center used to be and I say a little prayer for the victims who didn't get to make it home that day.</text>

<text>Hi. My name is Deborah. I was working in the Fraud Department at a credit card company when my very first customer of the day told me of the planes crashing into the Twin Towers. I didn't believe it at the time what this man had told me. Then the next phone call I received the customer proceeded to tell me about The Twin Towers and the planes crashing into them. The company I worked for at that time was so compassionate to ask if anyone who wanted to go home may do so. I stayed and worked my usual ten hour shift not having it sink in. When I arrived home that night I turned on the tv to witness something I have never experienced in my lifetime. I saw the world in chaos. I cannot tell you how mortal I felt at that time and yet it was not me even close to New York. My heart went out to all of the victims and anyone who knew them. Since that time I have vowed to never forget what happened on that sad day. I know I am truly blessed. And I am so grateful for our men and women who left so willingly to fight to keep this land free. I love this land I live in and I love all who have fought to keep it this way. God Bless each and everyone of you.</text>

<text>How did you witness history on September 11th? Share your story.

I witnessed Septemeber 11th through the television. I had called my
neighbor and she told me to turn on my TV right away. The first tower
had been hit and she told me they didn't know if it was an acident or something
else. When the second tower was hit I called my son's school to see if I
should go pick him up. My husband was out of town that day and I
couldn't reach him. I was very frightened. It was the longest day I have
ever endured. When I finally reached him he told me that there was no
way he could get back. All flights had been cancelled and there weren't
any rental cars avalible. He finally found a rental car the next day and
drove the 8 hours home. It was wonderful when our whole family was
home.

Has your life changed because of September 11, 2001.If so tell us.

Yes. My life has changed in many ways. I think about it all the time
and worry that my family will not be together if there is another attack.
Living on the East Coast close to Washington D.C. makes me feel more
vulnerable. I wonder if we would be safer living further away from so
many military bases is safer or will we be a main target the next time?

What do you think should be remembered about Setember 11th?

The people. How many people died because of something they knew
nothing about? They were punished because of someone else's beliefs.
I also will remember the fear I felt. We as Americans take so many of
our rights for granted. I think we should remember all the rights that
we do have.

Did you fly an American flag after the events of September 11th? Have
your feelings about the American flag changed as a result of September
11th?

Yes, we flew an American flag after September 11th. My feelings for our
flag have not changed. Our family has always flown a flag on patriotic
holidays. I think now we fly it more often. If you leave it up all the time
it becomes a part of scenery and people don't look at it and get the
same feeling. I am proud of being an American and thank God I live in
the United States of America.</text>

<text>My husband called me within minutes of the first plane crashing into the WTC. I had never seen, let alone heard, him cry. He told me he loved me. I knew something was horribly wrong.
I told the staff what was going on. The secretary, the director ,and the lead teacher all sat there with a look of disbelief.
For the first time in my entire life I felt vulnerable. I also felt the inmense responsibility that caring for children can bring in a situation like this.
What of the schools and hundreds of children in that area? What about my uncle and cousins that live in New York? What about us? What is going to happen next?
The staff took turns stepping outside to make calls on their cell phones frantically trying to reach loved ones in New York.
We also took turns crying.
Myself and two other teachers had lived in New York. It was the most difficult day of my life. I had to act as if everything was alright so as not to alarm the children.
At that time we did not know the full extent of damages the country had suffered. We knew the the second tower at the WTC had been hit. We knew the Pentagon had succumbed to a similar fate and the rumors of a crash in Pennsylvania were just that, rumors.
By early afternoon the majority of our children had been picked up by completely different people. Everyone had aged and the fear of the unkown lay heavy in everyone's eyes, as did the rage and fury.
And so began the day that changed my generation. My parents had the assasination of a president. We had the unthinkable murder of thousands. All for what?
So it goes, my life. Ive changed professions and many say I've changed myself. Maybe.
All I know is that in about two weeks I'm going home to New York. I'm going to say good-bye to an old and beloved friend. And I'll try not to remember visiting my uncle in what I thought was the "biggestest" building in the world: The World Trade Center.
I have a feeling that I'll fail at forgeting. Hopefully, so will the rest of America and the world.
