Tell us your story: I had lived in either Washington DC or its close-in suburbs for nearly 13 years when 9/11 happened, and worked all of that time downtown. On that horrible day I was at my job on 20th and L streets, about 7 blocks from the White House. I remember how beautiful the day was; thunderstorms the evening before had cleared the air of humidity and clouds - it was one of those fall days in DC that make our hideous summers worthwhile. I had dropped my car off for some work that morning, so I was a little late getting in. Just after I got to my desk I heard a plane had hit the World Trade Center. Figuring it was a really bad private pilot, I did not join the folks going to our offices on the sixth floor (I worked on the fifth) to see our only television. Then a few minutes later I heard that it was two planes, and they were commercial jets. I immediately rushed upstairs, and found most of my colleagues already watching. We didn't talk much, just stood and gaped as the flames poured out of the towers. As each person came in the room, someone would quickly whisper that there had been a terrorist attack and provide other quick details. It's funny, but I don't recall ever feeling concerned about my own safety; this was happening in New York, after all. We heard Bush speak to the nation beginning around 9:30, and I then headed back to my desk. The plane that hit the Pentagon must have impacted right as I was in the concrete stairwell between floors. I felt nothing, but several of my colleagues on the south side of the building (which faced toward the Pentagon about 2 miles away) felt the impact, as all the windows on that side of the building flexed in and out from the shock waves of the explosion. I got to my desk having just heard my name paged overhead, and figured it was my sister, a stay-at-home Mom in New Hampshire; I was right. As I picked up the phone I heard her say "they just hit the Pentagon, what the hell is going on?" She had been watching the Today show, as we had been in my office, and their Pentagon reporter had been giving an update as the building was hit. Promising to keep my cell phone on and with me, I hung up on my sister to check out this latest horror. On my way back up to the sixth floor I encountered two female colleagues, who were both pretty hysterical. They had seen the same report my sister had, and one of the women had two children in the Pentagon's day care center, where her husband worked. Her husband, she knew, was out of the building at an off-site meeting, but she had no way of knowing whether her kids were all right. Thank God the plane hit nearly the exact opposite side of the building from the center. The rest of the day is something of a blur, with wild reports about a car bomb at the State Department, a bomb on Metro, shutting down the rail system and stranding us downtown, another plane on the way to DC. My company decided to evacuate, and shortly after the second tower fell we left; another colleague who lived near me offered me a ride home, as it was clear Metro would not be an option (although it had not been attacked, the system was not prepared for the evacuation of downtown DC - it was nearly impossible to get on a train). I only had to get down 5 flights of stairs that day, and cannot imagine what it was like for those people evacuating the WTC - the sense of panic in the air at my building was frightening enough. There were four of us in the car, and it took 2 1/2 hours to get the seven miles from my office to my apartment (I lived closest, so was first to be dropped off). During the drive, we monitored reports on the 4th hijacked plane and tried to contact the parents of the intern who was in the car (she had recently moved from South Dakota, and could not get her parents at work). We had 4 different cell phones with 4 different providers, and none of us could get a call through. At the same time as this my sister was panicking in New Hampshire after she was no longer able to contact me by phone; she called her husband instead and told him "they're going to kill my brother, I just know it." When I did get home, and could finally call my sister to tell her I was all right, it was unnerving. Television was devoted only to word of the attacks, and the local stations did an amazing job not only covering the attack at the Pentagon, but also the widespread local problems from the virtual desertion of downtown DC. Once the traffic ended in the early afternoon, there was only the sounds of fighter planes above the city, and helicopters circling Walter Reed Army Hospital, which was just south of my apartment in Silver Spring. I didn't sleep much that night or the next with the constant sounds of the aircraft. When we did get back to work, on Thursday, it was to armed National Guard troops on every corner, and a lot of "working through" the events of that day. At my office there were stories of our staff members who had been trapped in other states by the air travel ban (including some in mid-town Manhatten who were thankfully fine). There were also those people who had lost loved ones in the attacks; one woman had three relatives at the WTC still unaccounted for that day. The ex-boyfriend I had at the Pentagon was lucky and got out of the building without a scratch. By that weekend I had heard from others whose stories were not as happy, including the flight attendant who had been good friends with the co-pilot of American 77, which hit the Pentagon. It will never be the same to live in DC, because now we know we live with a target on our backs. The antrax attacks in the city later that fall (not to mention the sniper attacks the next year) added to the stress. I still love the city though, and chose to buy a house here last year. I was in the military at the time and had worked late the night before.I remember getting out of bed taking a shower and was eating breakfast when I saw what was happening on CNN. At first I thought it was some sick movie...but then I went outside and I could hear the moving truck's radio from next door saying the the WTC towers had fallen. I remember thinking this can't be happening! Then on CNN they were saying that they thought some kind of bomb had gone off at the Pentagon...thats when I knew something wasn't right...we were under attack! I remember literally running to put my uniform on and get out the door to report to my unit.I remember calling work and asking if we were still to come in.I worked at another government site at Fort Meade and I didnt know if I still needed to come in or not.At the Time my unit advised that noone knew if any more planes were going to hit. We kept hearing rumors that another plane was headed our way. Fort Meade is very close to DC so you can imagine how hectic it was.Finally they got all the planes grounded and all you could hear in the air were the fighter planes. I will never forget 9-11. You see I work for the Horry County Schools and we have a mini TV station CH12 and ETV (ITFS) for educaitonal programming only. I was on the phone with a DELC call of 50 DELC TV studieo throught our the state of South Caroloina. The peron conducting the phone call was in his car along with another person. This call always takes place every Tuesday morning at 9:00 am. About a minute before 9 I logged onto the call and I heard someone say turn your TV to CNN. I did and at first it looked like someting you would see in a movie. I thought what the )@(#$*)(% is going on. I then said listen I gotta go, cause all you could hear on the phone was things like Oh My God!, Look at that, or What the ! was that. The 2 gentlemen in the car couldn't even fatham what was happening. So I hung up the phone and started listening to CNN and at the same time getting my husband on the phone and tring to explain to him what I was seeing on TV. My husband was thinking like me at first that some airplane must of had some kind of mechicanl problem. We disccussed it a little and got off the phone. As I sat there and continued to watch TV and then all of a sudden seen another plan crash in to the Trade Center again. Then within minutes heard about the plan crashing into the Pentago and then a plan going down in Penn. I reliezed by then we were under some kind of attack. I started cring and tring to get my husband on the phone. He still couldn't understand the impact of what was happening to the United States. I was so upset that I had to turn of the TV's I couldn't listen anymore. Like most american's I was in a blank state the rest of the day. Wondering what in the world is going on and who is doing this to us. As I rushed home to the turn the TV along with the rest of my family. For the next 5 days we all stayed glued to the TV like most americans. I remerber telling my Family that on Saturday there would be NO TV! turned on in our house. It was hard for me to watch my family as they wondered were they safe anywhere and what am I suppose to do to help now. Like most of the world "our lives have changed" and "our love for each other"! One of my co-workers came out into the front reception area as soon as he heard the news of the 1st attack. I immediately turned on my radio and it seemed like only minutes has passed and the announcer was saying that the Trade Center was crashed into by an airplane, at first we thought it was the same story but soon realized they were talking about the second tower. At that point, I think all of us were in shock and awe. Our company employs about 50 people and we were all tuned to the nearest radio and one TV in the conference room. I cannot describe the feelings that I felt, and still feel today as we commorate the 1st anniversary. I cried many times today. Hearing our Govenor speak today, Daniel Rodriquez singing, You'll Never Walk Alone, Celene Dion, doing God Bless America in the true fashion of Kate Smith. I will never forget. In June of 2001, I moved to Miami, Florida two months after my wedding, and two months later found out I was expecting. On the morning of September 11th, I was driving to work with my sister when we heard on the news that a plane crashed into the North Tower of thr World Trade Center in NYC. Being New Yorkers ourselves, we immediately wondered how a plane could accidently hit one of the twin towers. Calling the pilots "blind", our nonchalant attitude ended abruptly when they announced a second plane hit, this time the south tower. I dropped her off at her job in Bacardi, USA, and headed to South Beach to mine at Sony Music. There, I saw the worst. All the televisions on my floor were tuned into the news, and what I saw made my heart stop. When the first tower fell, I was in too much shock to react. To me, one of the twin towers falling was unimaginable. It just didn't happen. When the second fell, the gray haze of reality and denial set in. Those towers just didn't fall. They were the Twin Towers. Landmarks. Two skyscrapers that New Yorkers have taken for granted for years. So implanted in the New York skyline that you almost didn't even notice them anymore. I couldn't believe it. Then the Miami panic set in. Everyone started running around, swearing South Florida was next. Amidst all of that, I was trying to find my friends and mother who were all unreachable as cellphone networks were all down. An hour or two later, we were allowed to leave, whereupon my husband picked me up and we drove home, passing the toll booth that waived us through without at fee, passing the cars on the highway, all drivers tuned into the radios with expressions of shock written on their faces. That night, after the dust had settled and all of our loved ones were home safe and sound, the aftermath of the worst terrorist attack on American soil unwound. The people that were missing started to be counted, like Lieutenant William "Billy" C. McGinn, a friend of my husband's who was located and laid to rest a month later. The body count rose as did the heartache. Over three thousand dead after the attack on the Pentagon and the plane crash in Pennsylvania. Two years later, I still can't keep a dry eye hearing a story, or recounting an event from that day. As much as it pains me to remember what happened, what occurred in my city and my country, I hope that that feeling never goes away. I never want to be able to think of that day and not cry. Because then it means I will never, ever forget what happened. And I hope no one else will, ever. I am attending Arizona State University and my family lives in a suburb of San Francisco so I was very concerned for their safety. fortunately, I was able to contact them and I was assured that they were safe. About a week after 9/11a woman came to my church. Shhe had lived by it for many years but had never been there.She told the church she was there becaus she was looking for answers.She said that her best friend Will had died in the Pentagon.She was so upset and she was crying. This woman I had never met had a huge impact on my life and my way of thinking. I think that the unoffical memorial that they have made on ground zero was a great idea but they should really hvae an official memorial to honor the heroes and the lost. Tell us your story: On that tragic day I listened to my truck radio in disbelief as the news broke.I did not comprehend it at first because of the magnitude of the event.Then I pulled in front of my customers house to do an inspection.They were not home,but that did not matter.As I got my inspection equipment together,I noticed the door to a home across the street opened,and went there to inquire about the breaking news.The elderly lady let me in and we both went into the living room where the TV was on and the news was blazing about two airplanes flying into the World Trade Center.Again,I watched in disbelief.After staying for a while as a "TV" guest,I excused myself and headed for home. It was too far out to grab and put in our reality. Throughout the day most students and staff found out what happened. People were crying, hugging, so unsure of what to do. Many people in the school including myself have family that live in Manhattan. The phone lines were jammed to Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Staten Island. We couldn't get through to our family, no one could. I had found out that my cousin was working across the street at the moment the first tower collapsed. She fled for safety and only some debris fell on her. My other cousin's school was evacuated; it was mass chaos everywhere. This day will be forever burned in my brain..so many people died..so many people lost ones that they loved. The fact that some people in the world would do such an awful and destructive thing scares me. There were so many programs on tv that kept on replaying the collapse of the towers. There are still so many radio shows that talk about this event and tv specials on what "really" happened. Ofcourse we should all remember this day in history; in honor of the ones we love and lost. However, it hurts to remember that day. My eyes fill up with tears and i feel such a patriotic feeling towards my country. I went to sleep last night wondering if i would be typing this right now. At the time of the incident I was not aware that the country was under a terrorist attack, until I heard some commotion coming from the corridors of the school. When I found out what had happened, my knees buckled and my eyes got watery because my wife worked in the six World Trade Center building, which is the customs house, as a federal agent trainee for the IRS. Her shift started at 9:00am so I had the terrible feeling that my wife was in the building. I came out of the classroom and I tried calling my wife but there was no answer. I completely lost my mind and I ran out of the school and drove to the World Trade Center site. Little did I know that I was not going to get anywhere closer than a mile from the site. I left the car and ran as fast as I could toward the towers in aid of my wife. When I got close to the site I was stopped by law enforcement officers who had sealed the area so that people like me would not get through. I was devastated and crying because I felt the worse. I pleaded with the officers to let me go by so that I could help my wife who worked in one of the towers. After about an hour of crying and full of dust and particles from the air, I heard from my wife, she had called me and she told me that she was alright. At that moment I became the happiest man alive, I must have thank God a million times. I then ran back to my car and drove home. After I got home, I embraced my wife and together we cried and thanked God. My wife couldn't stop crying and she kept telling me how she had just escaped death. She explained to me that she was lucky because she had arrived to the building around 9:00am and as she was walking, she realized that something was wrong. She saw the north building on fire and people jumping out from the building. She explained to me how she was crying and feeling for those people who were jumping and for those who were stuck and couldn't get out. She did not realize what was happening, she thought that it was just a fire but nothing more. She realize that something was wrong because she saw how the plain dove into the other tower. She explained to me how she then started running because debris was falling down from the tower after the explosion. She told me that she ran for her life and ducked under a canopy for cover. After the debris had fallen she ran past the #4 and #5 train because it was too crowded and went to the #2 and #3 train and came home. When she got home, she turned on the television and tuned in to the news and realized that our country was under terrorist attack. Throughout the day and days after that, she kept reliving the scenery of the people jumping from the tower and of the plane hitting the other tower. The federal government had to sent her for therapy so that she could overcome that terrible tragedy. Although months have passed, she at times cries when she sees pictures of the 9/11 incident. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: Before September 11, 2001 the month of September meant a couple of common things to people. This included the end of summer time, Labor Day, and back to school the kids. This was back then, now September has taken on a whole new meaning. The image of terror and panic in New York, along with the Twin Towers crumbling before the world will be forever burned in my memory. This one event in time was so powerful that years from now people will ask my generation "Where were you when the Twin Towers fell?". This generation will be defined by that one moment in time. The alarm goes off and I immediately hit the snooze button. It was the first couple days of school and I was definitely still in my summer sleeping habits. I gave anything for those extra couple minutes of sleep. Of course eventually I got up out of bed thinking that it was just another day that ultimately just led to the next and made it one day closer to being summertime again. This all changed in just a couple of hours. I was in my gym class in Mclean High School, we weren't doing anything just hanging around. I was sitting down talking to some people I had just met, suddenly out of nowhere a kid comes running in screaming "The Twin Towers have just been hit!!". I'll admit that I didn't pay any attention to that kid only because only because it sounded to unbelievable to believe. My opinion of this changed immediately though when a teacher comes running in the gym wheeling with her a television. She put on one of the hundreds of channels that were broadcasting the events. Out of nowhere everyone rushes around the television trying to comprehend what was really going on, and those in the far back were jumping up and down trying to catch a peek of the television images. I managed to make my way to the front to see the tv nice and well. I couldn't believe what was happening. Smoke was pouring out of one of the Twin Towers, and at the bottom of the screen it kept flashing messages that it had been hit by a hijacked airplane. Minutes later a second plane slowly approached the second tower and exploded into flames, everyone who could see the tv screen at that point was mortified including myself. No one knew why this things were happening and now weren't sure if they were over. Of course we all know now that it wasn't over, the horrifying scenes of people jumping out of the Twin Towers began to happen and then of course there was the hit on the Pentagon that was so close to home. Everyone was panicking at that point and the whole school was now questioning the safety of the nation. I couldn't understand why anyone would do this America, and how they had the conscience to kill thousands of people. I think these questins plagued every American over the next couple of weeks. Of course the road to recovery was a long one. Every generation has some key moments that future generations who weren't alive through them all want to know about it. There have been some important moments in the past such as the Vietnam War, the assasination of Kennedy, and the moon landing. The events of September 11, 2001 will "forever live in infamy", and will be looked back on as a time when the nation as a whole was united and supportive of one another. Then rushing home to call his brother, who worked in Lower Manhattan, to make sure he was OK, and watching on TV, as the South Tower crumbled. It took hours to get through to family in NY but I was frantic to find out if anyone was at the towers. When the North Tower fell, it was so surreal. Just unbelievable. How could this be happening,,,,,here,,,,,,in the U.S.A.,,,,,,,,in New York City. When those towers were built, I watched every da, from start to finish. How could they now be gone? All the lives lost. It was more than my mind could assimilate. I thought the tears would never stop. I had just watched the Lynnhaven Middle School bus leave at approximately 8:25 AM, and I sat down to watch "Good Morning America". At approximately ten minutes to nine o'clock they announced that a small plane had hit The World Trade Center. They planned the cameras to view The World Trade Center buildings smoke was billowing out of one of them. I just sat there and stared at the T.V. in disbelief. Shortly after there i watched a second plane hit the second tower. I continued to watch T.V. all day long as planes hit the Pentagon and in Pennsyvania. 2.]Has your life changed because of September 11th 2001? If so tell us how. Tell us your story: The day was bright here in Stoneham, and I had sent an email to my office letting them know I wasn't feeling well enough to make it into work. I must have gotten up right as the first plane hit the first tower. It isn't as clear as I'd thought it would be - my husband either called me or IM'd me about something happening in NYC. I didn't turn on the TV - I went to www.cnn.com but there was only one line about it. I didn't even turn the TV on then - I think I turned it on several minutes afterwards and it was not because of what my husband told me - I think I was probably looking for the weather channel. But every channel was filled with pictures of the towers smoking. I was in shock. I wondered..WHAT HAPPENED??? I had no idea even then what was going on - I started to listen to the newspeople and everything began unfolding thru their words. I was transfixed. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. All I could remember is how beautiful those building were to me - and how much I had enjoyed working on the 99th floor of 2 World Trade Center. Then the first building crashed down and a gasp slipped from my lips and tears filled my eyes. I called upon Jehovah because I knew that there were so many people not just in the building, but under the building where the stores and the trains were and that some of them would be my christian brothers and sisters - other Jehovah's Witnesses. I shook my head in absolute disbelief and sobbed when the 2nd tower shook to the ground. It is still like a dream - when I think of it, I feel as if someone has shaken me awake from a deep sleep. I never slept that night. The hum of the TV was the backdrop of our bedroom - I waited for them to find survivors - I couldn't sleep and if I dozed, I startled myself awake to watch more of the TV. I cried and cried and prayed for Jehovah's Kingdom to come and take away the pain and suffering of the world. Tell us your story: Well first of all I had no idea that all this had happened I was running late for class so I hadn't even turned the TV or radio on, so when I got to class and everyone was talking about something I had no idea what they were talking about. So I listened for a while and I caught bits and pieces of it, but never really caught the whole thing the teacher let us out early b/c she was pretty shaken. So I went back to my room to find out what was going on when I got there my roomate(my cousin) was watching it on TV I couldn't believe it had happened. I watched as they showed it over and over again the people running the 1st building falling and then the second it was terrifing I struggled to keep from bursting out in tears and anger to who did this. I didn't understand how God could let this happen to so many innocent people. I'm a strong Christian and it scared me b/c if you know the Bible it talks about the end times and things like this happening, wars and rumors of rumors, nation will rise against nation and so on. I watched everyday as they showed it over and over the planes hitting the buildings and them talking about people calling their loved ones or some getting out b/c they ran others not getting out b/c they stopped to help someone and neither got out, or even the ones who jumped to their death. Even though I had no one in the buildings it made my heart hurt for the ones who did. For the children who lost mothers or fathers or for the husbands and wifes who lost their spouse, or for the parents that lost their children. It was horrible, but through it all I prayed and trusted that God knowing all that had happened would be there having his arms around every single family member that was watching this happen. Tell us your story: I had just sat down to work at my desk, when a co-worker came into the accounting department to inform us that the first twin tower had been hit by an airplane. We immediately got up and went to his office to look through the window. It was the worst site I've ever seen in my life. Our beautiful landmark had a huge hole in it. The smoke was so thick, creating an enormous, dark cloud in the sky. I kept running back to my desk to speak with my mother and sister on the telephone. When I returned from one of those calls, the second tower had been hit. We watched in disbelief and with tears running down our faces. Then it was announced that the city was frozen, no trains, no buses, no airplanes no traffic in nor out. We felt like sitting ducks, since some airplanes were reported unaccounted for. The people were seen jumping from the windows to escape the flames and smoke. I prayed for them and their families, the children they would not return to. When the first tower fell I could not accept it. My mind told me it was still standing there behind the smoke. My co-workers assured me it was gone. I thought of the people standing on the street, how many had been killed? A single tower stood without it's twin and it broke my heart because I love this city. I ran down the avenues to meet my sister, as the second tower fell. It may seem silly in comparison with the real heroes of 9/11, but my sister was my hero that day. She made sure our sister-in-law Greta and I went home with her, she wasn't leaving us behind. We were blessed with a ride home, which Lizzette got for us. I was in a daze, in shock, I was'nt thinking straight. The traffic was horrible. People were standing at bus stops, the lines were a block long. Strangers were sharing cabs, something you never see in New York. Thousands of people were crossing bridges and we drove around for a while looking for a open bridge to cross to get to the Bronx. I'll never forget the moment I stepped out of that Jeep and onto familiar ground, I was home. I felt like God had given me a second chance at life. I was glad to see my 8 year old son again. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I remember the drive from Piscataway to Morristown was unusually slow that morning. Normally, NJ Route 287 is an extremely fast road. The sun was shining so bright, and the day was just beautiful - so I didn't care. I usually listen to the radio in the morning, but decided to listen to some Steely Dan instead. Little did I know that horror was unfolding in America. I arrived at work and a friend greeted me outside our building. He said "trouble in paradise." We had recently experienced a massive layoff, so I thought that the axe was falling once again. But immediately, another co-worker frantically came out of the building and said that the city was locked down, and that another plane had hit the second tower. Someone grabbed a radio and we began listening. A few minutes later, I decided to head down the street and see tv coverage. I still remember the day being so beautiful. I remember watching the towers crumble. Dear God, I will never forget that. They closed work at 11am, and I headed home. I remember looking up in the clear blue sky and seeing no airplanes. What an eerie feeling. I remember seeing the smoke coming from the towers from my apartment window in NJ. I remember sleeping about 2 hours that night, constantly getting up with my wife to watch the news. Living so close to NYC, I always loved the Towers. They were just so magnificent and beautiful, especially at night with all the other city lights. The following week, I found out that the goalie on my men's hockey team made it out with about 10 seconds to spare. He saved one woman's life, but lost several friends at his workplace. I also found out that a friend's cousin, whom I had met just a few months back, died in the attack. Just recently, I visited the 9/11 exhibit in the Smithsonian Institute of American History. It was incredibly moving. There, two feet away from me, was wreckage of all kinds. I reached out and held a piece of a door from a firetruck. I then left the exhibit. It was just too hard. They say that time heals wounds. It will take a long time, but by the grace of God, we will get through it. May God bless all the families and friends of the victims on this tragic day. I will never forget that day, I can replay it second by second in my head over and over again, sometimes I don't even try to, it just happens. Is it selfish of me to feel so affected by this tragedy, I lost no one directly, yes my friends cousin was a heroic fireman who lost his life and my moms friends brother perrished as well, in fact, I do know of 7 people personally that died in the face of this horrific act. I remember that morning so intensly as my then three year old son jumped on my bed complaing he was hungry yet the child growing inside of my was draining my energy, I couldn't pull myself up. I wanted just a few more minutes of "peace". Then as I watched the Today show the tragedy started to unfold before my very eyes. My husband worked for the Long Island Railroad in the track department, he could be working anywhere from Manhattan to Montauk. When the first plane hit I had to call him. It was a Tuesday morning just days earlier we sat at a Bar and Grill inside the towers that we enjoyed. Our friend worked in the towers and introduced us to it. Since the Saturday before we had a party to go to in Manhattan we decieded to make a day of it visiting our favorite spots. I called him not because I thought the face of our world was forever changing but because I thought,wow we were just there. As I spoke to him the second plane hit. I'll never forget his words," We are getting attacked." Could we be? No Way, not the USA. He delivered the news from me to the other 15 guys in his gang. Now as they reflect on the events of September 11th they recall it was me who first delivered the news to them. As reality hit and then yet another plane went down panic set in. My grandmother 75 years old worked across the street and my two very best friends worked there! Where were they. The phone calls started I began using my house phone and my cell phone at the same time calling all three of them over and over and over again. The minutes felt like hours, the hours felt like days. I would do anything to hear their voices. As I kept getting there voicemails horrible thoughts kept entering my head. Where they buried under the rubble, were they alive, hearing the phone ring unable to get to answer as they lay dying? I kept thinking the child inside of me would one day be learning about this horrible day in history class. I thank God often that my grandmother and friend made it out alive. Although we never heard from my grandmother until the next day but she was able to get a message to us through a stranger. I guess really there were no strangers that day. She gave a store owner in Manhattan a piece of paper that said only my mothers phone number, her name and the message I am safe, I am alive and I am stuck on Manhattan, I will call you asap but know I am okay. I went to work that afternoon, I worked at a doctors office, as most business were closing as a result of the events unfolding around us, they had to stay open. The phones kept ringing. Patients whose love ones were missing were hysterical they needed valium, well what they really needed where their loved ones, but unfortunatley that option was not available. Living so about 35-40 miles from manhattan you could smell fire in the air, fighter jets flew over head and you could sense the world would never be the same. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: My husband and I feel very fortunate. We were travelling back east. We left Washington DC about 2 days before September 11th. We were headed west through Pennsylvania. We almost spent the night of the 10th in Somerset, PA but my husband wanted to see how close to the Pennsylvania/Ohio border we could get. Because of that, we were about 35 miles away from the PA plane crash. Since we were still on western time, we slept in that morning and turned on the news just in time to see the second plane crasing into the WTC. We were watching it on CNN and they weren't covering things as they happened. We disn't know about the PA crash until we called home to tell everyone we were okay and they told us about it. We still can't believe how lucky we were. Our original itinerary had us in Washington DC on the 10th and 11th and our hotel was less than a mile from the Pentagon! We are so thankful that we changed our plans at the last minute. And by the time we left on Saturday, our flights were departing without any delays (probably the only time we have ever left on-time).
