<text>On the morning of September 11, I was at school just like any normal day we were in are classes, when all the sudden the prinicipal had called my name and asked for me to come to the office. When i got there myy school counslear wanted to speak with me, I went into his office and he told me that they were informed that my grandma had worked in the Pentagon's cafeteria. An then they told me about the planes hitting the World Trade Centers. While he was talking I was thinking "Wait my grandma doesn't work in the Pentagon's cafeteria!" and when I told him he was shocked, because what had happened was my mom called and asked if they new what happened, and she told them that if I Jessica Cornell were to have any problems my grandma worked in the cafeteria at our school. We'll they misunderstood and thought that it was the Pentagons cafeteria. So they sent me back to class, while i was walking back I started to cry because of what had gone on, when i got back everyone asked me why I was crying, before I could tell them the principal had got on the annoucments and told everyone what happened, as everyone started to cry the teachers turned on the T.V. and we watched the 2nd plane hit, at that moment we knew that this wasnt going to be an ordinary day. We wernt sent home early from school but when we got home people were lined up at the gas stations, and trying to get home to there families. I can only remember so much because I was in such shock. What happened that day is a day that I and no one will ever forget! An for any one who reads this and has a friend or family member that was in the attacks, I pray and feel so sorry for what happened to you that day. Because no one knew what was going on. And its sad that innicent people had to go through that! Thank you so much for letting me tell my story. And REST IN PEACE, for everyone that died that day.</text>

<text>I am a wife and mother of two sons ages 13 and 10. My husband and I were sitting in our home watching Good Morning America when breaking news came that a plane had hit the 1st tower. I was seeing it with my own eyes but my mind and heart would not let me believe it. I stopped right then and prayed a pray for all the families that would be affected by this horror.
In the following hours, my husband and I prayed and leaned on our faith in God to help us process this horrible event.
When my children arrived home from school we discussed and prayed, again leaning on our Faith in God to help us thru.
May God Bless our great country.</text>

<text>On September 10th I supervised movers to pack up my temporary apartment in Boston and move it to Birmingham, Alabama. After they were gone, I got in my car and drove to DC. I had lived there until that May, so I was excited to visit again. I spent the night with my sister who had just started law school at American University there a few weeks before.

On September 11th, we were planning to grab some breakfast and then go visit campus. My cell phone rang - it was my partner, Jay, calling. He was in Louisiana on business. I gave him a cheery good morning.

"Are you watching TV?" he asked abruptly.

"Yeah, the weather channel. Why?"

"Change the channel. A plane just flew into the World Trade Center."

I changed the channel and saw the smoke pouring out of the building. I assumed it was a small plane that hit. Jay was in a rental car with a client listening to it on the radio. As my sister and I watched TV I realized that both towers were on fire - and that two planes had hit. Then they broke in live to say that a plane had hit the Pentagon.

My sister's apartment was up on Wisconsin in the NW - so we weren't anywhere near the crash site. But it made my blood run cold all the same. I told Jay I would call him back.

I called my mother's office in Massachusetts. The receptionist breezily told me she was away from her desk. I remember getting a little loud with her and said, "Find her and bring her to the phone NOW. This is an emergency."

My Mom got on the phone. I told that Beth and I were OK, and we would get out of DC if things got any worse. I told her to call the rest of the family to tell them that we were safe. The television kept rattling on about fires on the mall and bombs at the State Department. We watched the White House get evacuated.

I had trouble getting in touch with Jay because cell phones were jammed. I called my friend Robb who was a flight attendant with American based in DC and left him a message to see if he was OK. I called my brother who worked in Boston and he was evacuating his building near the Hancock Tower. I wrote in my diary on and off through the day.

My partner Jay travels full time for work. We had been living in Boston that summer. He left Sunday night for his trip to Louisiana because he had an early meeting but typically he left on Monday morning early. I realized that he could have been on that flight and I started crying. I thought of my parents who went to San Francisco in September 2000 for my mother's birthday on a similar flight and cried more.

I was scared. I was angry. My heart was breaking watching people jump out of windows and run from those falling buildings.

It was a very scary, very emotional day. I was enraged at the idea that someone felt that this was an appropriate response to whatever real or imagined grievance with the US. What on Earth could we or any country have ever done to make a human being decide that this was an appropriate response? I know we're not perfect. I know our foreign policy isn't always 100% altruistic. But this?

They started playing phone conversations on TV from people on the planes and I started crying more. I called my friends in DC. Robb called me back - he was fine. But he was friendly with the whole flight crew and shocked that these people he knew were gone. I spoke to Jay again at last and he was back at his hotel. I think we ordered Chinese food for delivery. We watched TV for the whole night.

On September 12, I left my sister to head to Birmingham. I drove past the Pentagon and started crying again. I drove the whole way to Birmingham that night listening to various NPR stations the whole way. I got to Jay's mother's house late that night. Jay arrived the next morning from Louisiana.

I'm glad this website is here to record stories from different people all over the country.

Images from that day.

I came out of the subway to the street 3 blocks up from the Trade Center, hearing announcements that there as an explosion in the Towers. As I came up from the subway stairs I immediately saw the gaping flaming black hole in the North Tower. People on the street were caught dead in their tracks, just staring up at it. It was a total disconnect. From everyone: ?My GOD, I can?t believe it, I can?t believe it?. Nobody could tell me what happened. I found out only later it was minutes after the second plane hit the south Tower.

Almost immediately, I tried to get on a phone and tell Mala I was OK, tell her what I was looking at. It seems like she had the same idea and I couldn?t get through to her.

I remember sirens and watching these fire trucks racing by me all converging on the site as I crossed the street. I see these guys? faces hanging on to those trucks.

You knew there were people in those buildings, and you knew it had to be a horror show in there. But you couldn?t really digest it at that time. you felt like an observer watching this horrible thing unfold.

In the midst of all that horror people are still people. I made it to my office, which literally sat in the shadow of the towers? and yet with all that going on the majority of my fellow workers were waiting for someone to tell them to go home. It wasn?t until the first tower fell that they actually left. They were lucky. One block away I am sure there were too many people who would be alive today if they just said ?Fck this, I?m getting out of here right now?.

I didn?t wait, I left, I just didn?t feel comfortable in that building. I had a moment of indecision where as I left the building, I momentarily thought of walking a block over to the complex and get a better look? but a voice in my head (probably Mala?s) told me I was crazy and I made the right decision. If I was my typical self at that moment, I wouldn?t be here writing about it.

One block away I was heading back to the subway again gazing up at both towers . The top floors were at that point engulfed in flames. People were taking pictures. Never a thought until the moment that it happened that they would come down.

The South Tower, standing right in front of me, 2 blocks south, without any warning just began to crumble. I heard a loud cracking, crumpling sound that echoed through the streets and saw the Tower turn into dust, vaporizing as it collapsed almost straight down floor by floor.

I like everyone else stood mesmerized for a time, until I snapped out of and saw that 20 story cloud of dust and debris racing up the street. With police on the street yelling, ?RUN?, I ran heading uptown. I cut over east 1 block hoping to get some protection from a cross street, only to run into the same cloud coming up that street. It was pure survival instincts, no time to think about it, just run. I describe it as a scene out of a Godzilla movie, where you are trying to outrun Godzilla who is right on your tail looming 20 stories above you. I was afraid to look over my shoulder to see how close it was. People running along me were crying.

Eventually, heading due north I did out run it. The wind luckily for me and the rest of the city was blowing the cloud to the east. Somewhere around Houston Street in the village I watched with equal surprise as the North Tower collapsed. ? I think that tower is leaning a bit??, I was telling someone, then just like that it collapsed.

The City that day was like the day the Earth stood still. The is my best description for it. If the end of the world ever comes, meteor, nuclear war, whatever ?.9/11 was a full-blown dress rehearsal. Everyone was out on the streets from downtown to midtown. People were just milling around in a state of shock. It was better to be out on the streets, with each other. The city suddenly became like a very small town. Someone on the street saw that I was looking for a phone and immediately lent me his wireless from his apartment. I finally got in touch with Mala, who after seeing downtown engulfed in flames, thought I was dead. I could understand that, I thought that everyone I left in my office an hour earlier was dead also? A very strange day.

Later on in the afternoon I stood on West Street down by the river somewhere around 14th street, with crowds of people just gazing downtown at the cloud of smoke. Two things? First, the void in the skyline, you just couldn?t get a handle on it (still can?t)? Second, it was such a picture perfect beautiful day?crystal clear blue skies not a cloud in the sky, perfect late summer/early fall temperature, you couldn?t ask for a nicer day.

The year of 09/11 has past?

I heard someone (a witness to 9/11) say on the news that before 9/11 he never really felt that horrible things could happen to him and after seeing the towers fall he realized it could happen to anyone, anytime. I believe that sums it up pretty well.

When I think of that that flaming hole in the tower I gazed at I think of it as a hole that ripped reality right open for a while. What was in that twisted blackness was literally like a window into Hell.

The Towers and the complex of buildings and space around them were a world unto themselves. The complex was a city; it was flowing with people, stores, entertainment, etc. If I close my eyes now I can instantly take a walking tour through all of the corridors, stairways, bridges, and buildings that comprised it. I see the places I went shopping in, the people behind the counters. I can stand in the plaza outside and get vertigo staring up at the top of the towers.

I am always pretty aware of the architecture of the city around me, and there were a number of places, on the streets surrounding the Trade Center, that I would almost always admire and gawk at like a tourist as I walked through and around them. I would think ? this is amazing, this is, this is New York?; I had this sense of being lucky to be able to be there and part of it all.

The summer, perhaps a month previous to 9/11, I decided to go shopping for a book at Borders Books (5 World Trade) at lunch. For the first time in a long time I decided to walk over to the WTC plaza and see if I could find a place to sit down and read, grab something to eat. I hadn?t been there in a while; the plaza was never my favorite place. Too much concrete, too cold, I thought, Typically I would spend my time in the greener parks down by the river. On this picture perfect sunny day however, I found the plaza had become a much warmer, people friendly place since I was last there. There were a lot of nice food kiosks scattered around, tables, benches chairs, etc?I found a nice place to sit down on that day, and was able to read for a while. It was nice?. I distinctly remember feeling the heat of the sun on my face as it reflected off of the steel of the South Tower. As I was going back to work, I decided that it was a nice place to hang out?.. I should take advantage of it more often? that was the last time I was there .. oh well.

I watched that same South Tower crumble before my eyes in about 10 seconds on 9/11.

It took about 1 hour for all of that to be obliterated, vaporized, wiped off the face of the earth. One minute it was there, the next it was gone.

Physical reality around me became pretty fragile for a time following 9/11.

When I was re-located to Sixth Avenue, I was adjacent to Rockefeller Center, another bustling open city plaza. Nice places to stroll around at lunchtime, people watch, sit down. In the middle of this bustling place, full of people, tall buildings, life ? I would get this image of the destruction and ruble of the WTC plaza. This reality was just as fragile as the reality I saw crumble.

Occasionally I get irritated when I here it referred to as ?Ground Zero?. It was the World Trade Center, it was not Ground Zero. Actually to be more accurate, now it is the big hole in the ground where the Trade Center formerly stood.

People can walk by the site, and easily forget what happened there. I have not quite reached that point yet. I still find myself looking up at the empty sky.

There has been a rebirth of sorts, what has happened around the site since is an amazing testament to what man can accomplish. The cleanup, the time period it occurred is truly unbelievable. The life that has crept back into the area this summer is a testament to our resiliency. When I first went back down to the area in December it was like walking thru a war zone. Streets were ripped up and blocked off, stores boarded up, dirt and dust everywhere, the smoke from the still burning pile, and the smell. . Now, except for the steady stream of tourists you have to contend with, you could hardly realize what occurred there.

When I look at the site now, I see what isn?t there any more. . I wonder what tourists see there when they visit ?I am sometimes tempted to ask one.

A common scene: Families posing in front of ?Ground Zero?. Mom or Dad holding the camera ?.?Smile?? and they always do. Its Disneyland ? It?s amazing.

Personally, I believe I have gained a greater appreciation of ?life?, a better sense of what is important vs what is not. Don?t put things off; if its a beautiful day get out and enjoy it, take that cruise you been thinking of; get in touch with that old friend before its too late. On paper it sounds trite like a list of platitudes from a feel good book, however getting past that, I think they are words you can live by.

Life goes on and that?s good.

I'm a nurse by profession and I'm a nurse in the army reserves. I also was able to see the twin towers burn from the 10th floor @ work. that day when my shift was over @ 3pm i found myself unable to get home. all the highways were closed we were under tight security! then i turned on my car radio and they were asking fo volunters. this was my calling.i was let on the highway by the police with my military id i drove to chelsea pier but they had enough voluteers there they asked if we would go down to ground zero. to wait an treat the people that would be pulled out! but my life forever changed that night no injured people came out we just treated a couple of fireman and rescue workers for smoke inhalation and was sent home about 12 midnight when we left we were all strangers doctors nurses etc black white asian christian muslim jewish but we were all family and i will never forget that day and the terror the strenth the love and the healing! GOD BLESS AMERICA!</text>

<text>As a part of my daily routine in preparing for work I always have the radio on the Tom Joyner morning show and the TV on Good Morning America, mute.
I happened to come back into the room where the TV was when I saw the plane hit the tower. Shocked by what I'd just seen
I stood there stairing in disbelief. Not until I arrived at work
and other co-workers were watching the television in the confrence room
did I finally realize what had happened. Although I had no friends or
relatives there I was very emotional. To this day I can not understand
how someone anyone could do such a terrible thing to total strangers, children
people that had caused them no harm or danger. May God be with us all. My prayers
are will each person effected by this tragedy.

One of my favorite songs be one of my favorite groups became both an insperation and a hope through these past days. The account of my day is niether sad nor spectacluar, but it is rather about what happened to me. on September 11, 2001 how my life changed with the world's

im 15 years old and am writing from California. the strange waves of events started in my house. i had no account of any of this happening for at least 3 hours. i went to school, me as a 14 year old sophmore, knowing nothing until i was at my locker on my way to 1st period at about 8:15 or so. as soon as i heard, events earlier that morning were embeded in my mind. among were the song and clip of a music video i watched in the moring, and what class i had 0 period. the weather ironically was a metaophor in a way. it was dark and cloudy, the darkest it ever was all year. Time seemed to stand still as i found out. i hadn't seen any images until 3rd period at 9:15., it was the first time. i couldn't belive what was hapening. fear spread over me, and i almost broke down crying as i watched the planes hit over and over. most of the day is blur to me now, classes, but i remember what shows i watched, as though it was yesterday. what lines they said that stood out and what i said to certain people.

Normally wild and happy teens at lunch me friends and i stat quietly and talked. i found it better when i talked about what was going, my fears and hopes. i was so worried and afraid that night i had to listen to poeple talking. i wanted to know what went on at every minute. i know that for me and my generation we'll remember everything about that day. parts are blurry, but others arn't. i can't believe it's been a year. it seems to have gone by so fast.

Tonight i plan to light a candle at 7:00 the same time as on Friday Sept. 14 in memory. as life goes on, i will forget many things. but i believe that the images and thoughts will stay in my mind forever. i know i still haevn't gotten over it because as i watched TV today after school i felt chills up and down my spine and the sadness returning. i believe that will happen for years to come.

Setember 11 2001, during a day for tradigy, hope rises
My account is in Mermory of all the victims od Setember 11, dead and alive.

I did not ever in my lifetime I would see such tragidy and I live thousands of miles away and it still touched me.
I found out that a girl I went to high school with lost her sister there. I may not have been great friends with her but I knew her and that was good enough. I came home that night and just kissed and loved my children. I try to live life like it is my last day here and I have nothing more to do but live it the best I can. I hope this never happens again and I think we all need to take a step back and look at the world and make it better. We are destroying our lives.</text>

<text>I got up like every other morning; got the children ready, took them to school, and came back home. I worked the night before. I was so exhausted; so I fell asleep on the couch with the Today Show. I woke up a little after 10:00 a.m. to a world I did not recognize. I was seeing the television, hearing the words -- but completely unable to comprehend that it was real. As silly as this sounds, I didn't believe it. I thought what they were saying was a mistake, a parody, or a very unfunny joke. I thought maybe I had lost it.

I live in apartments; so I literally ran to some neighbor's unit. I said, "What is going on?" She told me that the World Trade Centers had collapsed. I still couldn't believe it. I went to another neighbor's house and said the same thing. It was only when a second neighbor repeated the news that it sunk in that these things were really happening, that the situation was real.

I immediately grabbed my keys, went to the school, and picked up my children. I felt it wasn't safe for us to be anywhere other than our home. I was afraid, too, that the children would hear about the attack and be frightened. I discovered when I picked them up that they already knew. They were in elementary school and had overheard the teachers whispering.

That whole day was so unsettled. Nobody seemed to know what would happen next. I was afraid to take any chances. We left town immediately and went to my father's home in the mountains of North Carolina. I figured we would be safe there since there is literally less than a hundred people in his entire town.

I remember the incongruity of that weekend: standing in my father's front doorway watching the children play outside on a tire swing on a beautiful sunny warm afternoon while, endlessly, the news spoke of thousands of deaths, of terrible deliberate destruction, of unimaginable pain and loss. It was just too much. I wanted to walk away from the sounds of the television, from the knowledge of what we were all facing; but I couldn't stop listening, fearful that there would be another threat.

I kept looking up at the sky, too: it was the first time in my entire life that I knew there were no airplanes in the skies above it.

September 11, 2001 was the first day of a new world.</text>

It was frightening listening to the newspeople tell the events that were going on. My first thoughts were of my family, and trying to place where they all were, and how I could get us all together if need be. I wasnt really sure yet what all had transpired, as the news stations were relaying different reports. I stayed near the television watching in horror for the most part of the day. And praying to God for all of Americas safety.
And thanking God that my family was safe nearby. </text>

                       No longer!©
No longer do I know, the people that are foe....
No longer do I feel, that people can be real...
No longer is it good, letting people say they should...
No longer is it fine, all these visions in my mind...
No longer we can wait, for it may be too late...
No longer can we say, 9/11/01 was just another day...

I REMEMBER!©

I remember the day the USA was just in aw. I remember the day our lives were changed for us all. I remember the day we held our LOVED ones close. I remember the day I prayed for the HOLY Ghost. I remember the day my eyes showed fear. I remember the day I shed many tears. I remember the day I wished I did not. I remember the day I wished I forgot. I remember the day that the whole world vowed. I remember the day we said "No Terrorist Allowed". I remember the day alot of flowers came. I remember the day not too many remained. I remember the day when we all held out hope. I remember the day it was very hard to cope. I remember the day we all came together. That is the day I will always remember forever!

Sending out these Blessings!©

I send out these blessings to all that were their....

I send out these blessings to their loved one that shared...

I send out these blessings to each one that cared....

I send out these blessings we know it is hard to bear...

I send out these blessings but that is the only thing I know how to do...

Blessings to you!

<text>It was early and I was on my way to my weekly meetings. I was up early and on my way out the door I saw what my son was watching and I honestly thought he was watching "Die Hard" (Bruce Willis action movie) and told him to change the channel. That's when I found out a plane had crashed into the WTC tower. I thought is was an isolated incident and woke my husband up to see the news.

It was on my way to work that I heard on the radio of the second crash into the tower, the Pentagon, and the plane crash in Pennsylvania (still unconfirmed as to whether it was related or not).

The day's activities seemed so trivial. I can remember watching TV with my coworkers and being stunned. There were no words. I called my husband and we had an unspeakable need to keep our son home from school and just huddle together, thankful we had each other.

Then came the days of people waiting for family and friends that would never return. Families with pictures of men and women. The numbness of the reality took days to set in and the fear that followed, after all we weren't all that far from Oklahoma and only 2 years from the Columbine High School shootings. How much can people take.

But now a year later, we are still strong, still sad and still numb. We are also a little kinder and, I hope, more aware. I don't take for granted the casual goodbyes in the morning. I tell my husband and son I love them and always take the extra 30 seconds for hugs and kisses. I never turn down the opportunity for romance -- no matter what I might be late for. My priorities have been righted by the terror.

Probably not what they had in mind, but I know I am not alone in this and thier attempt to alter our lives has failed. But, while I was effected by this terror, I lost no loved ones and that pain takes years to fade and I hope in years as we read these and the pain recedes that our victory is seen.</text>

<text>TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN. "YOU NEVER APPRECIATE SOMETHING
UNTIL IT'S GONE". I HAVE LIVED IN READING, PA. AND VICINITY
FOR SOME TIME. HAD IT NOT BEEN FOR NEW YORK CITY, I PROBABLY
WOULD NOT BE HERE. ORIGINALLY FROM MICHIGAN, I FIRST SET
FOOT IN MANHATTAN ON JUNE 5, 1986. AND WHERE DO YOU SUPPOSE,
AS IT HAPPENS, THAT I CHOOSE TO SET FOOT IN THE CITY FOR THE
FIRST TIME?? YOU GUESSED IT. MY FIRST CONTACT WITH THE
STREETS OF MANHATTAN WAS MADE VIA THE HUDSON TUBES, (PATH),
AND THE TERMINAL AND CONCOURSES OF THE WORLD TRADE CENTER!!!
AS I RECALL, I FIRST SET FOOT ONTO THE STREETS OF MANHATTAN
FROM THE NORTH SIDE OF THE CONCOURSE, ONTO VESEY STREET,
POSSIBLY BENEATH #5 WORLD TRADE. OF COURSE I COULD HARDLY
APPRECIATE THE TRADE CENTER, AS I WAS THERE PRIMARILY FOR
THOSE CRAZY STATUE OF LIBERTY EVENTS, "LIBERTY WEEKEND",
WHICH WAS A MONTH LATER. I DECIDED VERY QUICKLY THAT I
WANTED TO LIVE IN OR AT LEAST NEAR, NEW YORK CITY. AND SO IT
WAS THAT FROM 1986 TO 1993, I CONTINUED, ON AND OFF, TO KEEP
COMING BACK AND TRYING TO ESTABLISH MYSELF IN THE AREA. IT
JUST WOULDN'T WORK!!! SO I FINALLY REALIZED IN LATE '93 THAT
IT WAS FOOLISH AND DANGEROUS TO KEEP TRYING TO LIVE SO CLOSE
IN, AND WAS FORCED TO SETTLE FOR SOMETHING A FEW SHORT HOURS
AWAY. I WOUND UP HERE IN PENNSYLVANIA, AND THIS DIDN'T WORK
TOO WELL AT FIRST EITHER, SO I WAS AWAY FROM HERE FOR A TIME
AS WELL, BUT SINCE LATE '93 WHEN I FIRST ARRIVED HERE I HAVE
CONTINUED TO MAKE OCCASIONAL TRIPS BACK TO NYC. THE LAST
TIME I CAN REMEMBER BEING AT THE TWIN TOWERS WAS IN LATE
1997!!! SO AS FAR AS MEMORY TELLS ME, AND I MAY HAVE BEEN
THERE FOR SOME REASON MORE RECENTLY, BUT JUST CANNOT RECALL,
ALL MY EXPERIENCE AT THE WTC SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN BETWEEN JUNE
1986 AND LATE 1997. IN '86 AND '93, I WENT TO THE TOP, THE
OBSERVATION DECK. IN '86 FOR SURE, AND POSSIBLY IN '93, I
EVEN WENT TO THE ROOFTOP!!! BACK IN '87, I WAS ON ONE OF THE
TENANT FLOORS IN ONE OF THE TOWERS, MAYBE A FLOOR IN THE
40S. I HAVE USED THE PATH AND SUBWAY STATIONS THERE NUMEROUS
TIMES, AND HAVE PASSED THROUGH THE MALL AND CONCOURSES MANY
TIMES. I'VE BEEN IN THE LOBBY OF THE MARRIOT HOTEL (3 WTC),
AT LEAST ONCE, THANK GOD, AS I WAS THERE TO GET PAPERWORK ON
THAT HOTEL!!! THANK GOD I STILL HAVE THAT AND A FEW OTHER
OLD THINGS FROM THE TRADE CENTER!!! I AM NOW FRANTICALLY
TRYING TO PROCUR AS MANY WTC THINGS AS I CAN FIND,
ESPECIALLY PRE-DISASTER ITEMS!!! NOW I FIRST SET FOOT HERE
IN READING, PA. PROPER, IN APRIL OF 1994. I COULD NEVER HAVE
DREAMED THAT I WOULD WIND UP LIVING HERE LIKE THIS, AND I
CERTAINLY WOULDN'T HAVE IMAGINED THE HORRORS THAT HAVE
BEFALLEN SINCE LATE IN THE YEAR 2000!!! I HAVE BEEN BACK IN
READING ALMOST CONTINUOUS SINCE APRIL '97, BUT IN NOV. 2000,
MY OWN "9-11" BEGAN, AND IT LASTED EIGHT MONTHS, UNTIL MID-
JULY OF 2001. I'M STILL REELING FROM THAT NIGHTMARE!!! THEN
JUST TWO MONTHS LATER IN EARLY SEPTEMBER, THIS OTHER BULL
"HIT THE FAN" AND I'VE CONTINUED TO REEL EVEN LONGER AND
MORE!!! ON THAT MORNING OF SEPT. 11TH, I HAD JUST RETURNED
FROM SCAVENGING SOME STUFF FROM A BUILDING DOWNTOWN THAT WAS
BEING REDONE, AND HAD SWITCHED ON THE NEWS AS A MATTER OF
ROUTINE. IT WAS 9 A.M. ABC NEWS, PROBABLY DOUG LIMERICK, ON
WEEU RADIO. I WAS SITTING THERE WORKING ON THAT STUFF WITH
THE NEWS ON WHEN IT WAS ANNOUNCED THAT AN AIRCRAFT HAD JUST
HIT ONE OF THE TWIN TOWERS AT THE WTC!!! I STARTED GETTING
READY TO GO OUT AS FAST AS I COULD GET THINGS DONE, BUT A
CALLER TO THE A.M. TALK SHOW JUST SHORTLY AFTER THE NEWS WAS
OVER SAID THAT HE THOUGHT ANOTHER PLANE HAD HIT!!! I WENT
OUT AND ABOUT TRYING TO SPREAD THE NEWS TO THOSE I KNOW, AND
WAS WITH A CASEWORKER FROM A LOCAL AGENCY AT 10 A.M. WHEN
WITH MY RADIO ON I HEARD THE HORRIBLE NEWS OF THE FIRST
TOWER COLLAPSE!!!! OF COURSE IT WAS A SHORT TIME LATER THAT
NEWS OF THE SECOND TOWER COLLAPSE WAS HEARD!!! SO LIFE
CHANGED FOREVER FOR ME ON NOV. 13TH 2000, AND AGAIN ON SEPT.
11TH 2001!!! I FIRST WAS ABLE TO REACH GROUND ZERO ON SEPT.
23RD, AND HAVE MADE SOME OTHER TRIPS THERE, AND HOPEFULLY I
WILL CONTINUE TO GO. SINCE AT LEAST MID-DECEMBER, I HAVE
GONE BY THE NEW PHRASE, "TWIN TOWERS TURKEY"!!! SINCE EARLY
APRIL OF 2002, I HAVE ADDED "GROUND ZERO GOBBLER"!!!
HOPEFULLY, I WILL SOON HAVE SOME MORE WORLD TRADE CENTER
THINGS COLLECTED, AND THEN WILL GET THESE THINGS GATHERED
AND CONSOLIDATED, AND THEN I WILL, GOD PERMITTING, CREATE
MY OWN MEMORIAL TO THE WORLD TRADE CENTER. KERMIT SIMON,
THE "TWIN TOWERS TURKEY" AND "GROUND ZERO GOBBLER".</text>

<text>I got up as usual and went to my Ear Training class in the music building... along with my roommate. Our professor came in a few minutes late and just sat on his desk and looked at us. Then he said "I can't teach like this." None of us knew what had happened, so he told us that a plane had hit the first tower. We immediately went back to our room to turn on CNN and just as the picture came in we saw the second plane hit.
None of our classes were officially cancelled, but no one went anyway. Everyone on my floor crowded into our room and sat on my bed with a box of Kleenex and watched CNN and other various news channels for most of the day.
It's erie to me that even though this year I am at an entirely different school in a different state, I am in the same class at the same time as I was on September 11th 2001.

But the thing I will forever remember, and something I think everyone should have heard is what an international student said as all us girls were crowded on my bed holding hands. She is from Sri Lanka, and she told us "I left my country to come here. I came here to learn. But mostly, I came here to escape terrorism - I came here to escape things like this. I wonder now if I made the right choice."

The families of those affected, our nation, our leaders, and the world are forever in my prayers.
God Bless you.</text>

<text>My remembrance of 9-11 will forever be a part of my life and how in the midst of these terrorist acts I learned a lesson I will pass to my son,my future children, and hopefully all those I come to know. The day of 9-11 began as so many days prior. My mother was dying of cancer and was bed ridden, her children and friends tending to her needs and doing the best we could to make her passing a peaceful time.I stayed with my mother the night before 9-11 and then started work at 8:00 am.I couldn't believe the news I had heard about the cowardly act of terrorism on innocent people.Like so many people that day I tried to put it into my own perspective to better understand, but all I could reason was:We,as Americans need to stand up and fight and this time not back off,but continue to fight to stop this reign of terrorism,so my son can live in this country without fear.Shortly after the attack,I received news that my mother was not doing well and her passing would most likely be soon.I left work to be by Mom's side as The Lord prepared to reunite my parents(my father had passed a year ago). The rest of that day we watched T.V. in my Mom's apartment discussing the events and tending to our mother. It was now the 12th of September and the events of 9-11 became even more of a reality and we mourned the death of so many.My mother had grown up in New York City and was very proud of that great heritage. It was this day that I learned that valuable lesson I spoke about at the beginning. My mother lay dying and barely able to speak, spoke a single phrase that will forever be embedded into my heart. Those words are as follows;"How sad, I lie here dying and they are destroying my city." My mother moved from New York after she wed my father- 50 years ago!
On the 13th,The Lord took my mother home, I was by her side.A woman 50 years removed from a city, dying of cancer, and her thoughts were with her fellow Americans. It's a lesson of humanity I will forever embrace and try to live up to. God Bless not only those who passed and the families they left behind, but for all those who survived and risked thier lives to save others. </text>

<text>I had just finished my early morning class around 9:15 a.m. and I just walked into our school's chapel service held every Tuesday and Thursday. Before the service started one of our professors got on stage and told us that both twin towers and the pentagon had been hit by an airplane. Many were shocked and still, really had no idea just what was happening. Many of us speant the next 1 1/2 service in confusion and concern. I remember after service about 500 students gathered around a large screen TV in student center, watching in disbelief the tragedy that had just taken place. I was very afraid and empathetic and it was still hard for me to believe that this had happened. I spent the rest of the day in one of my friends basements watching CNN. I couldn't do anything else but stare at the TV in disbelief. I remember thinking I just wanted to know where my family was even though none of them were invoved with this tragedy. I remember feeling very grateful for my freedom that I so often took for granted wondering that if it would be taken away and wondering if we wwould be going into war. I have to say that family, friends, and God became very important to me from that point. I remember thinking how blessed we were to have such a great president who was genuinely concerned for his people. I did and still do trust his leadership. My prayers and empathy go out to all families who lost loved ones on that day and for our contry's leaders who are making daily decisions on these issues. I have to admit, even after a year I still feel afraid thinking that another tragedy like this one might soon occur at anytime.</text>

<text>I woke up to my mother shaking me and telling me to get up and "come watch the news!", "You won't believe what happened". I had just flown in from Puerto Rico that night before from a little vacation with my then "honey" and didn't feel like getting up and watching the news. I yelled back to tell her that I wasn't at all interested and tried to fall back asleep when I heard my older brothers voice, "its the end of the world". That seemed to have grabbed my attention and I rolled out of the bed to come and find out that two airplanes had flown into the world trade towers. It was horrific. No words can explain the feeling of complete helplessness and anger I felt and do still seem to feel to this day. I found myself clinging to my mother and every other member of my family. Who knew what could have happened next. To me the world was ending. </text>

<text>i dont think i could possibily ever forget that day. i was in school, i had just gotten out of third hour. i was walking into my schools office when i noticed everyone was tuned into what seemed to be an action movie, with airplanes, and buildings on fire, the whole package. i walked out confused, then a friend approached me, "can you believe what happend?" i had no clue what she was talking about. She further explained. "The twin towers, they were crashed into by airplanes!" hmmm...i wondered, this isnt making sense. By that time we had walked up to my group of friends, all, as usual, circled around each other talking. "I can't believe it...", "Oh my god, think about all the deaths", "who did this?" who did what?? what couldnt they believe, and what deaths were they talking about, i still wasn't understanding. finally fourth hour began, and what do you know, my US history class. The TV was on when i walked in, everyones eyes, glued to its screen. and then i saw it. I saw the real footage of two airplanes each hitting the towers. Suddenly i was overwhelmed, tears were flowing down my cheeks. first thought: osama, PLO, but i was terrified they were goign to blame it on Iran. (thats where my parents and their famil are from) so i excused myself from the class. went and called my dad in the room next door. "dad who was it?, who are they saying did this? not iran right??" i was freaking out, i thought that the world was about to end, no joke. I mean its not everyday you walk into the classroom and see two buildings turn to ashes in front of you. my father, alwayscontent and perceptive reassured me, "Rahill its fine dont worry. no honey, they arent goign to blame it on iran, this wasnt iran. just dont worry. things will happen. Pray for all those who are there right now, or have died." I cant remeber much else of the conversation, just me crying and him reassuring me each time. well anyway i went baack into the class. my teacher was in there talking with a low voice on the other phone cryng, because she was desperatly trying to get a hold of her cousins in NY who she realized worked at the trade center. I looked aroound and saw all the kids faces looking up in awe, while most girls had tears streaming down their faces. everyone was silent, all you could hear was the tv, and the impatient frightful dialing of my teacher. i remeber sitting there, and just thinking and trying to apply it to the day kennedy got shot. all my teachers had gone over that day at one point or another, and there stories all paralleled each other. all sitting in a classroom, faces gllued to the screen, everyone sad and in awe. very similar, except twenty times worse. by this poitn they were showing the clips of people jumping out of hte building. ultimatly ending their lives. damnit i wanted to kill cnn. such a horrible news channel, along withthe rest of them. They were also falsly accusing nations and groups now who they believed were behind it. and ofcourse, what do you know iran was brought up. god i was now not only incredibly frightened, dismal, and shocked, i was angry. i felt myself growing smaller and smaller, i felt ashamed of being muslim and iranain, i felt liek everyone in the class was now looking at me in vengence, i was scared. i hate ignorance, it doesnt fail me now, and it didnt fail me then. well then we went to our next class. i disnt even bother going and talking to my friends i just went straight into the next class sat at my seat, and along with a few others, in silence began to watch the tv. when the bell rang my teacher didnt even speak we just all sat their and watched. we were watching the clips over and over, until very randomly CNN decided to show a clip of palestine. the palistinain kids dancing around parading around in joy. i watched tears running profusely down my face, my eyes turning red with anger, my whole body jsut tightened up, i felt like i was about to explode. and then i did. "THIS IS FUCKING BULLSHIT" i yelled as i threw my folders of my desk got up walked over to the door opened it and slammed it behind me. i couldnt even control myself, when i got out into the hall id int even know what happend. DAMNit i thought, how could they do that! such media manipulation. look at what they are dong. those poor kids in palestine ofcousre they are goign to be happy, they dont know any better. all they know is that america is the country allowing israel to continuoly walk all over them. they are the ones giving them all the weapons that have killed their father, brothers, and family. they are only kids, they have grown up in righteous resentment of america, but people here just cant understand that. WHY did they have to show that!! did they really have to? god i was royally pissed. i just couldnt believe it. anyway i gathered my feeling together went back inside. adn my teacher, wh oby the way thinks darn is a bad word, came up to me and said "rahill are you ok?", much better than the "go to the office" i was expecting. i jsut nodded, i couldnt even get out any words. the rest of the day i was the same. the usual happy, loud, funny, spunky rahill, had left, and a sad, dismal, angered rahill was all that stayed. got home and i noticed feelings were the same. my mom was talking back tothe tv as i walked in "how the hell do they know it was arab terrorists, iran, the palestinains..." yea i agreed. though i knew it was probably an arab group still i was mad abotu the palestinian clip they showed. OH and by hte way only to later find out THAT WAS FOOTAGE FROM 1995, bastards. damn i am truly disgusted. yea...thats all i have time for writing though. hope you enjoyed reading. hope things are well. carry on....</text>
