Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I remember waking up to my room-mate's frantic voice as she spoke to her mom on the phone. Groggily, I sat up at 8a to see a wakening site on the television. Watching two twin towers burning, smoke billowing out from every tear, every hole. I was awake within seconds. I quietly listened as the reporter on the local news told the horrific details of how not one, but two airplanes had been hijacked by terrorists and were flown into the twin towers. I was terrified. I felt so insecure. I had no clue what to expect now. I don't think anyone did. So I did what I believe the other 699 students and 70 or so faculty did that day. Waited in anticipation for an answer. I called my mom. Telling her to turn on the tv to the news. Participate in my grief. We spoke for maybe 5 minutes, hung up and sat in seperate houses in seperate states and listened. No one that day could manage going to classes. All of us, every tv, every room filled to capacity as we watched the continuing coverage. I don't think a single eye was dry. We were devastated. So a year later and I still feel the remorse for the thousands of lives that were stolen from thousands of families. It's hard for me to sit and tell my story to you without crying. So today, I will proudly wear my flag pin as I work in honor of the fallen and missing. I will proudly remember those that passed. And I will remember how God spared millions of lives that day even though many were sacrificed. God Bless America. Thank you Jesus for sparing my life. Thank you for giving me another day to live. I am a nurse and see several devastating things, but nothing compared to what was happening, before anyone could even blink an eye. I was with my family preserving the quality of life that we have left, unlike nearly 3,000 others. Of course they were unaware of the disaster that had occurred, but most of the world were watching as the world literally fell apart. My family's thoughts and prayers are with each and every one of the victims, their families and innocent bystanders. Thank God and Angels for they are the ones who carry us from day to day. Tell us your story: It occured to me that there have been many books written about September 11th, 2001, but most of them are from the standpoint of people who have intimate knowledge of the damage done that day. I have no intimate knowledge of the damage done that day. The closest the tragedy came to me was a friend's uncle's niece was a flight attendant on one of the planes brought down that day by evil incarnate. I shudder to consider the last minutes of her life. The emotion that overtook me on that day is overwhelming even now. As I write this, I struggle not to cry. Remembering the sheer emotion of that day is very hard for me. And I live in Marietta, Georgia, almost 900 miles from New York City. I have memories from that day that I want to put on paper, for some sort of preservation. So I have done so. And I have also collected the memories of others - those that were particularly poignant. Our country has never experienced anything like this before and hopefully will never do so again. Perhaps by collecting these memories here, I can help to prevent future occurances of this sort. Maybe. For me, the day began simply enough. I was traveling with my job and spent the night of the 10th at my cousin's house in Walker County, Georgia. Very rural. I woke up that morning and got ready and left the house to drive to a school some distance away. It was dark when I left and dark when I got to the school. One of my biggest regrets about this day and one of my most vivid memories is of the pledge to the flag that morning in that school. I ignored it. I was sitting in a teachers' lounge by myself and heard the pledge over the intercom and completely ignored it. I left that school and drove a few miles to Chickamauga City Schools. I visited the middle school and made an appointment to meet with the principal later that day. To kill some time, I drove over to the board of education and visited for a while. They fed me cookies and coffee and as I was enjoying this in their kitchen, my husband called me on my cell phone and told me that a plane had crashed into the World Trade Center. My first thought was "What a horrible accident." He told me he didn't know much more about it, but thought it was a small plane. I soon left the Board of Education and drove to the high school in Chickamauga and tried to get some news on the radio to see what had happened. All I could get was a sports talk program which seemed to be all about whether or not Michael Jordan would come back to basketball. No mention of the plane, or if there was, it was only in passing. I finished at the high school and drove to the elementary school to visit there. I left there quickly and went back to the middle school for my appointment. I was early, so I waited in the office for the principal. While I was there, the phone started going nuts and children were in and out of the office giving updates. It seemed that every television in the school was tuned to the events in New York and Washington. I kept trying to get my husband on the phone but could not get a signal in the school. Eventually a young boy came into the office and said that both Trade Towers had been hit by planes and the Pentagon was now a "Squareagon" as he put it. At that point, the only thought in my mind was that the world was ending. I met with the principal eventually and left. I had a few more appointments scheduled that day, so I went to the car to try and contact them. I called my husband and had the information about both towers being hit confirmed as well as information about the Pentagon. I called my office and talked with some close friends, just to put forth theories as to what had happened. At this point, the full impact of the tragedy had not hit me. I wanted to talk to my mother, so I called her and reached her on her cell phone on her way to Atlanta to have her car serviced. She did not have the radio on and had no idea what had happened. She was completely shocked and I was glad I reached her before she saw the overhead message signs on the interstate in Atlanta which had all been programmed to say "NATIONAL EMERGENCY - HARTSFIELD AIRPORT CLOSED". I cannot even begin to imagine what people who saw that and didn't know what had happened must have thought when they saw that sign. I called my lunch appointment and said I was on my way. As I drove down the two-lane road out of Chickamauga to Highway 27, the full emotional impact of the events hit me. My father died when I was four and the emotional impact of that on me was muted by my age. Since then, a few close relatives and friends have died and their deaths have been difficult for me, but nothing has hit me so hard as I was hit on September 11th. One minute I was driving down the road and I was fine. The next minute, I was blind with tears and howling. Howling is truly the only word I can use to describe it. The pain was intense. I got to Highway 27 and all of a sudden, all I wanted was to be home. I am originally from Rome, Georgia, about 50 miles from Chickamauga, straight down Highway 27. When I got to 27, the only thing that I could think of was "HOME, HOME, I want to be HOME." And at that point, Home was Rome. Home was the house I grew up in. I turned right on the highway and headed towards Rome and away from my lunch appointment. I called her secretary and told her that I was no longer coming. And thus my journey began. As I drove towards Rome, I kept trying to call my mother and husband on my cell phone - when I could get a signal - but when I could, I always got the "full cell" signal, meaning everyone in the area was on their cell phone. Finally I got through and my mother and her friend had gone to my house in Marietta and were staying there, so I decided to go to my house instead of home. It must have taken me three hours to get home that day - about an hour and a half more than necessary. Once I got home and saw the graphic pictures on television, it all became real to me. I hugged my mother, I hugged her friend, I hugged my husband. All I could do was watch television. I was glued to the set from that point on. The infamous "crawl" became my source of news. We went to church that night - a special service for people who just felt the need to attend. Later we went to our hangout, Rafters, and played trivia and watched George Bush speak on television. People in the bar cheered and clapped at his speech. That was the first time I felt the togetherness that has been so prevalent since then. All events of the previous year were forgotten and people who had hated Bush 43 the day before were cheering him on. Later, a good friend of ours came over and was telling us about a friend of his who worked in the Trade Center who he had not been able to contact. We worried about her together and just were grateful for being together. After he left, he called to say that her husband had called him and said she was fine, even though it had taken her eight hours to get home. Somehow, that made the end of the day somehow bearable. Tell us your story: I was teaching my Third Grade class when a colleague came into my room, took me aside and told me our country was under attack. I began to cry as we hugged each other.At that point we knew very little except that two planes had crashed into the World Trade Center, another into the Pentagon, and a fourth somewhere in PA. I was told that the flights were originally headed from Boston to LA. My son and his fiance were living in Redondo Beach,CA at the time which is about 15 minutes from LAX. My husband and I had flown to CA to visit them that previous summer, taking the same route as those planes. It sent a chill through me. Would my son be safe? I got coverage for my classroom and went to the office to try to get some information. Since the building was undergoing renovations, we did not have acess to a television. The only outside source of information was a small radio on the secretary's desk. I couldn't find out much more than I already knew. I went into the ladies' room and cried. I Had to compose myself and get back to class. It was necessary for all of us to act like nothing was happening for the sake of the children. We agreed to not say anything and let them find out when they returned to their homes. That was the hardest day of teaching I have ever spent. I felt as if my students were never going to be the innocent little children that they were in my classroom that day ever again. It was heartbreaking. As luck would have it, it was my turn for recess duty that afternoon. I recall what a beautiful blue sky was overhead. A little first grader was chasing a butterfly. He looked so happy and content in the bright Autumn sunshine. I kept thinking that in a few hours he would go home where his parents would share the horrible news with him He would never be that innocent or carefree again. All the while, I kept scanning the sky for planes as the paranoia which has been my constant companion ever since began to take root in my soul.That was the longest day of my life. I couldn't wait to get home and call my loved ones, just to hear their voices and be reassured that they were safe. Thank God they were. I crawled into bed at 4:30 that afternoon and just stayed therewatching the news coverage and feeling so frightened,angry,and sad. I haven't flown since although both of my son's have. I count the minutes until they land, checking the news to make sure there have been no crashes. My son will be getting married in Las Vegas on November 9 so I will have to fly then. I am so nervous about it that it's really put a damper on what should be a happy, proud time in my life. I hope and pray that these feelings will pass in time, but don't see how they can. No, I did not have any psychic intuitions of the disastrous events that were to happen later that morning. I was worried about a trivial court case over some silly bar brawl that was calling my boyfriend into court on that day. I had written in my journal just before we were about to leave, ?I am so worried right now, my stomach is in knots?? We approached the courthouse around 8:15 a.m., and minutes into the court session, it turned out that my worrying was (as in most cases) all for nothing, for the case was dismissed. Shortly after 9 a.m. we arrived back home and our cell phones and the house phone were all ringing. I answered the house phone first, for I was closest to it. It was my friend telling me that a plane had crashed into the World Trade Center. ?Quick, quick!? I told my boyfriend, ?Turn on the t.v.!? He did, and there it was, the first plane?s smoky remains smashed into one of the WTC buildings. My knees had locked, and I collapsed on the couch, my eyes fixated on the tragedy that had befallen our country. When the second plane crashed, I knew something was terribly wrong?that this was an attack. Then there was news of a crash into the Pentagon, and another in Pennsylvania. Terrorism, I knew, was the case. It was like the Oklahoma City bombing all over again, only this tragedy was one of bigger, more catastrophic proportions. I began to cry and get shaky, and called everyone I knew, just as they were all trying to call me. As my boyfriend and I spoke to our families on our phones, we held hands tightly. My friend called from Boston (I live ten minutes away) and told me that the city resembled a ghost town; that everyone had left work, school, and recreational activities, all to go home and be with family. She told me how strange it felt as she made her way home. She said it felt like the end of the world to see a city quiet, not a soul in sight. The whole day consisted of closely watching the news, and praying so hard that the victims had escaped, or would be found alive. My heart, like so many, was ripped in two, just imagining the fear and terror all of the victims had. What they had to go through was unimaginable. It was so unreal, so unlike anything I ever thought I would see in my lifetime. Watching the events unfold before my very eyes, people?s reactions, desperate, frightened people jumping to their deaths so as to escape from the evil disaster brought upon them that fateful morning?it was all too much to bear. It did not seem real. It did not seem that there were human beings capable and disgustingly rotten enough to carry out this ultimate destruction and the mass murder of thousands of innocent people. That night before I went to bed, I opened my journal from where it sat earlier that morning when I last wrote. The last lines, ?I am so worried right now, my stomach is in knots?? seemed so inappropriate for me to write at eight a.m. that morning on September 11th, before a real tragedy had hit. Suddenly, every worry in my life seemed so small and unimportant at that moment. I felt guilty for having worried about something so insignificant and meager in comparison to the tremendous loss experienced by millions of people that day. I closed my eyes and prayed to God, unable to erase the horrible images that I am sure were playing in all Americans? minds that night. I prayed and I wept until my eyelids were as heavy as my heart was, ever since learning of the horrible events that took place on September 11th, 2001. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I was carpooling with a colleague. I'd been busy gettiing ready for work and I had no idea what was going on. As we drove away my friend told me what was going on, or at least what it seemed had happened. He had said that apparently a plane had hit one of the trade center towers, and as he was watching the news another appeared to have hit the secnd tower. We had the radio on, and they were talking to someone at the pentagon, who was saying there were rumors of an evacuation. The reports from the pentgon were highly contradictory. We were skeptical--we were on guard against media hype and didn't want to jump to conclusions. We bothremembered how the media were blaming "Arabs" in the early stages of the Oklahoma City bombing. By the time we had walked to our office we were hearing other reports, including that the petagon had been hit and was on fire, and that downton DC wa under attack. But we couldn't get any hard news--all the news websites were tied up, and the TVs couldn't get any reception, since we weren't on a cable circuit and didn't have an antenna I was co-teaching a class that morning, and my fellow teacher had a cell phone, She was calling her house every five minutes and getting updates from her husband, who was watching TV. We heard that one of the towers had fallen, and that there had been a bomb on the Mall. We decided to let class go, as we had several students who had family members either at the pentagon or downtown in DC. We felt like we had to caution them not to jump to conclusions, not to cast a lot of blame till more was known. When we walked in to the clss we tried to get the TV to work, but no dice--the students said they had already tried. Interestingly, a couple of them seemed to have little or no idea what had happened. We let the class go about 10:45, after reiterating what reports we had heard. I drove home with my co-teacher, who kept the cell phone going almost the whole time. We were both pretty anxious--I had been unable to contact my wife, who works at the CIA, and I kept checking for news of an attack there. Turns out they were evacuating, and it took her forever just to get out of the parking lot. After that we were glued to the TV and the web, just like everyone else. I wasn't paying any attention to what they were looking at until one of the girls asked me if I was "In the loop". I asked her what she meant and that's when I learned about the first plane crashing into Tower One. Terrorism did not cross my mind at this point. I assumed it was accidental. Until moments later when the second plane crashed. That is when the disbelief began. We didn't appreciate the graveness of the situation until our boss gathered us together to tell us how serious it was and that we should not use the telephones unless it was necessary as to keep the lines open for those affected. The actual shock didn't set in until the ride home when every radio station had news coverage and I realized the enormity of it all. I cried all the way home. That following Friday, everyone was asked to have a candlelight vigil for the victims and their families. My husband and I went home and gathered every candle in the house. We lined them up both sides of the driveway, across the front walk and up the front steps. It was something small to honor them but hardly enough. We both wanted to do so much more. My husband left his name as a volunteer, but was told that at that time, they weren't in need of anyone. I still get chills when I see photos of that day and even pictures of the Twin Towers when they were still intact. I did not know any of the victims who lost their lives personally, but I cried as if I did. The hairs on my arms stood up every time I drove in my car and experienced the PRIDE of America shown in the flags that were so proudly displayed so prominently and at so many homes. I went to the post office to mail a package and they had their radio on. I noticed everyone was kinda dazed, so I asked what had happened. I found myself with that same stunned feeling. Thoughts started rolling around in my mind about the Nuclear Weapons plant on the outer limits of our own town. When I got back to the new house, I phoned my husband who was with our children at our then-previous home and told him to turn the television on. Our plumber, Rob, came over about an hour later and after watching some footage on the TV he said "That sounds like the work of Osama Bin Laden ". I asked "Who is that?". He was surprised that I didn't keep up on current events more. He told me that while he served in the Armed Forces he was specially trained to protect the places where the President appeared. He said he and his wife both served in the same area. He also voiced his apprehension about another war, since he now had an 8 month old child... but without hesitation in his voice added that he'd gladly defend the land that he loved. I learned alot that day. First of all I learned who Sadam is. Secondly I learned that I should pay closer attention to the world news. Like Rob said, it concerns all of us as Americans. And thirdly, I learned what the service did for an everyday man like our plumber. The detail and perfection that he would always strive for when he did work for us was no doubt instilled in him by his commanders. He treated my family with respect and dignity, which is something you find very little of these days. But another thing stood out even stronger, and that was the love for his country. A love so strong, he'd be willing to part company of his darling baby in order to make sure that his child would grow up in The Land of the Free, and the Home of the Brave. What an awesome legacy! Get up....take a shower....eat breakfast and do my usual before I had to go to school. I lived with my grandparents at the time, and I was just about to take a shower, but something was wrong. I can usually hear my Grandma making breakfast or doing laundry while I am getting ready for school, but it seemed like everything in the house had become silent. I walked into the living room and I saw my Grandma sitting on the couch. I will never forget the expression on her face....it was still...and pale....like she was in shock. She had her hand clinged tightly to the remote that was still facing the T.V. as if she was going to change the channel. Then I stopped and watched the news....and everything inside of me went cold. When I went to school that day....it was the most painful day that I have ever experienced. There were so many people crying and sobbing and hugging each other. It was a gloomy day and you could just feel all of everyone's pain as they walked past you in the hall....you could see it in their eyes. In 1st period out teacher had us write down on paper what we felt about what happened that morning.....and I couldn't bring myself to do it. I sat in my seat as tears streamed down my face. 9/11 was all everyone talked about for months afterwards....and I remember crying for weeks.....Our country was in tears that day and it brought sadness to everyone, not just to people and families that were literally affected by it. The one thing that did get me through those weeks and months after 9/11, was seeing on the news and hearing stories, and watching with my own eyes how everyone came together and gave their lives for others on 9/11. The actions of that fateful day in september will stay with me for as long as I have a breath in my body and this is my story of how the day unfolded. I woke up at 7:30 GMT and went to work at the gas station and up until around 2pm the day was going pretty well, I was listening to the radio at work listening to really nothing in particular, then out of no-where a news flash came over about a plane hitting a building in New York and that there would be reports coming in later so at first I can honestly say that I didn't pay a lot of attention to it at first. Then after about 10 minutes there was another report about another plane, so virtually instantly I turned on the TV I had with me and put it on BBC1 where they had just put up the newsflash graphic, and they started showing some of the footage from the American TV stations I think it was CNN of a reporter doing a broadcast about the first impact, then all of a sudden in the right hand corner of the screen you saw the plane going flying into the second tower. Straight away I ran over and told my boss and other employees there to turn on there TV sets in there building, then we all stood around and virtually the gas station and garage shut down for the day as we watched the news and events of the day unfold, other things like President Bush reading stories to a group of children and someone on his staff coming over and telling him in his ear what had happened, then the events unfolding in Washington and those brave passengers who did what they could and sacrificed there lives so others may live. At age 27 this was the first time that terrorism seemed real, I think people of my generation had never really knew the magnitude of acts of war and the pain and suffering that it would cause. Saying the trade center got hit by a plane. I thought is was just an accident, but later to find out it was an act of war. Though out the day we watch this sad sad event on tv. I wanted to cry, I couldn't believe it happen to us, the United States of America. When I got home my dad was sitting in the room "with tears in his eye" watching everything on TV. Tell us your story: I awoke relatively early on the morning of September 11th, 2001; being that I was working as a nightclub security manager at the time to supplement my inconsistent film production career, I normally finished work at 5:30 in the morning, and most times hung around for drinks and bullshit to wind down with a contingent of remaining staff, friends of staff, and the club owners, and more often than not, a celebrity or two who I will allow to remain anonymous. But, I was off the night before. It was around 7:45AM and I didn't turn on the television. Instead, I signed on to my AOL account to check my e-mail. I was living with a friend at the time at the Symphony Tower on 62nd Street between Broadway and Columbus directly across from Lincoln Center. I surfed the web for a little less than an hour when my cell phone rang. It was my brother Mike calling from Connecticut. There was always a mixture of anxiety and pleasure for me when Mike called. Pleasure to hear from my brother who didn't call that often, anxiety because our Dad was getting on into his late Seventies and he was the best man I've ever known. This time, the anxiety was startlingly apparent in my brothers voice. He said without greeting: "John...do you know what's going on down there?" I said I didn't. I told him that I woke up early because I hadn't worked the night previous and was on the Internet checking mail and downloading music from a rip-off site. That's when he told what had occurred moments before, and nobody in the media knew what the hell was happening and why yet. I told him to stay on the phone with me while I went into the living room and turned on the television. I switched it on and immediately was struck with the insane sound and images that will forever haunt me and millions of others for the remainder of our lives. As I watched, the second plane slammed into the tower and exploded into orange and black oblivion. I know I yelled at that moment. I think it was something like "holy shit!...Oh my fucking God!!!" Initially my brother and I didn't speculate as to why the first plane had hit the tower; now the word "terrorists" was what one or both of us spoke without doubt. I also can't quite remember which of us decided to break off the call, but I know I told Mike I had to wake up my roommate, Wendy. I told him I'd call him back in awhile when I knew more about what was happening. It wasn't lost on me that cell phone service in the Northeast may be severely disrupted due to the massive damage to the towers, not to mention television and radio transmissions as well. Regardless, I told him I'd call back. It happened quickly and disturbingly quietly; the rise of adrenaline and horror simultaneously within me. I began hammering on Wendy's bedroom door, which was right off of the living room. I was yelling because she slept like a mummy in a tomb. I was yelling: "Wendy!!...Emergency!!!" After a couple of minutes of that, she came flying out of her room ripped out of sleep and into a panic. I pointed to the television and said to her: "Terrorists just flew two commercial airliners into the World Trade Center". Following a brief moment of disbelief and suspended animation, she began to shake and cry. We watched in silent despair for what seemed like forever. I didn't need to wait for Wolf Blitzer to tell me we were a country under attack. I didn't need to hear it from the President, either. I knew we were at war, and nothing was ever going to be the same ever again. I knew like I knew that the sun had risen in the East that morning that in those few, horrible moments, the world as we know it had changed forever. I also knew I had to do something. I could no sooner hold my hand against the surface of a searing frying pan than stay in that apartment and watch all this on the fucking television. God help all the brave and self-less civil servants, but I sensed that the only way we were all going to get through this was if ordinary people - the citizens - responded to fill the short-fall of elements required to support this unprecedented and uncomprehended catastrophe. As I began to dress for the long walk downtown, my cell phone again began to ring. I saw from the caller I.D. that it was my best and oldest friend, Stacy O'Dell on the line. I answered it. He began telling me what I already knew, so I stopped him. I wanted to tell him what I was preparing to do. That's when he asked if I would do something for him. His wife, and my friend as well, Allison O'Dell worked for a major International law firm near Grand Central Terminal. Stacy was far uptown at his apartment on 116th street, and there was no way he could get to Allison in a timely fashion as the subways and buses had already been shut down. He wanted me to try and find out if everything was okay around Grand Central, and maybe even find Allison as I made my way downtown. I told him I'd do what ever I could, but I didn't think I'd be able to locate anyone in particular among the inevitable chaos that I was sure to find there. I told him I'd try and call him if it was still possible after I reached 42nd Street and Madison Avenue. The cell phone network was quickly becoming overloaded already. I rushed him off of the phone. I couldn't wait any longer. I had to get out of the apartment and witness the day with my own eyes. I had to try and find a way to help. To do something; anything before I lost my mind. Wendy was a mess. She was still shaking and sobbing when I told her I was going down there. She hugged me and told me to be careful. I told her I would try to call later if it was still possible. I slipped my boots on - I knew I'd need boots somehow - and went out the door and to the elevator. Twenty-Two stories later I walked out into a city in a state of pandemonium and disbelief. People on cell phones were running everywhere. Traffic in Columbus Circle was at a standstill. Here the true surreality begins. I managed to make my way quite quickly to the Grand Central area. Maybe it seemed quick because of everything my mind was trying to process at once. This place looked like the city I'd lived in for 14 years, but it was a different version from another dimension. I canvassed the locale around Allison's office building. I asked a few questions: "Are the Metro-North trains still running?" They were at that time. "Any new news?" Nothing new but a lot of confusion. Thousands were streaming away on foot. Most heading North, either to their homes, or just naturally away from the now shockingly apparent broiling, smoking WTC towers, vividly visible looking South on Fifth Avenue. I tried to reach Stacy with my cell phone. I got an automated message informing me that I would not be able to make a call at this time. No surprise there. I can't remember if I actually felt the ground shake, which it must certainly have, or was just blown over by the shock-wave of human communication as the word spread like a tsunami that the first tower had just collapsed. I didn't see it happen. I looked down there. Great billowing clouds of choking gray dust, eerily reminiscent of the pyroclastic flow belched from erupting volcanoes, bloomed upward and outward, skirting the black plumes drifting high towards the Southeast. Shrouding what remained of the downtown skyline. People were screaming. People were crying. People were livid with anger. People were running. I was in a kind of haze. I looked for awhile, then I didn't look for awhile. I watched everything and nothing. For how long? I'm not sure. All of a sudden I realize I'm walking quickly down the center of Fifth Avenue toward what we now call Ground Zero. Except for one last wailing ambulance hurtling downtown, there were no cars, or any other vehicles moving on the thoroughfare. People were running North. I was reminded immediately of Hollywood blockbuster disaster films like "The Day After Tomorrow", and thought how reality had just surpassed fantasy like a long-shot racehorse outpacing the favorite in the Kentucky Derby. No Hollywood scribe had imagined this one. I was not comforted by the thought. After sometime, it couldn't have been long, I found myself in front of the Fifth Avenue entrance to the Empire State Building. Survivor of previous aircraft collisions. I stopped and stretched my neck to look upward. I unknowingly was already searching the skies for more jetliners; not just looking at the old and glorious premier skyscraper. What I did find, with a sound that proved to be one of the most haunting for long afterwards, were the F-15 fighters now circling the Island of Manhattan. A constant that was audible to me in my waking, and in my dreams, for months after they had gone. I snapped out of my thoughts as the symphony of rumbles and screams began again. This time I looked, and I saw. And, I felt the very firmament of the invincible city tremble. The second tower fell within a vacuum of profound sadness that has yet to be refilled with hope. Much more happened after this for me. I volunteered down there that day, and days to come. I saw the horrors. I saw the most beautiful strength of good people as well. I have a lot more to tell, but this will have to do for now. Maybe next year I'll tell more. I went to the library with my language arts class, first period, and noticed the tv's in the library were on. The tv's in the library were never on, so I was surprised. The news was on, and there was a view of the burning tower. our teacher was telling us to stop watching tv, and to check out a book. she said there was no way that the world trade center had been attacked, and that we shouldn't believe everything we hear. we went to go check out books, and she started watching. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: When I heard what had happened , I was mentally "lost" . Here I was stationed overseas , and the US was beeing attacked. In my mind I wanted to go there and help. It took several months before I "returned" to this world. Now I am especially aware of what goes on around me, I have this "one for all" and " all for one " sentiment. I don't think this feeling will ever leave me. Bad thing is though,I have developed a " discriminatory " feeling towards Moslim peoples. Perhaps after a while it will fade, if "they" prove themselves trust worthy again . Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I was on my way to a pep rally and decided to take my backpack to class early. Thats when it hit me. My geometry teacher told me to turn the the television on because someone had crashed into the Twin Towers. I din't really care at the time because I didn't know what they were. Now that I know I feel bad that I didn't care at the time but there is nothing I can do to change that. The reason it bothered me so bad is because, when iI found out how it affected everyone in New York and their family members, I realized that I am blessed and that one of those victims of that tragedy could have been one of my aunts or uncles. That day I really went on about my buisness and it didn't really bother me too much. My parents and I didn't really have too much of a conversation on this. I don't think that every should have started asking God to bless America and America was not looking to god when everything was going good. To sum it all up, the attack didn't bother me at first but it does bother me now. Tell us your story: I had just made a cup of tea and sat down to watch the news, when suddenley the dreadful news of a plane had flown into one of the twin towers.I could not believe it and was shocked and felt sad for their family's, then the other plane hit the other tower!,then the whole world realised this was no accident. Today a year on I still cannot believe what happened that day, all those people killed needlessly, my heart goes out to all their families and will not be forgotten.
