I remember clearly what I was doing on 09/11. first sorry for my English, my native tongue is French. I was working at my office. The radio is always on, I can't work without it. I had a smoke and was looking at the window. There was a breaking news. The reporter said an accident happened in New-York. a Plane crashed into a building. I travel a lot for my work, I visited New-York 5 times. I was anxious. New-York is truly one of the most beautiful achievments of mankind. In some ways capital of the western civilization. I went back to my computer and tried to surf on cnn.com. I thought we had an internet problem, I wasn't able to access it. I tried foxnews.com, nytimes.com even washingtonpost.com. All of them were unreachable. I was anxious. Something important was happening on earth. After long minutes, finally I saw cnn.com on my screen. Just one page. I don't remember the text but I remember the picture: twin towers were burning. The biggest city of the western civilization was under attack. People like me were running on the street. Men and women like me covered by dust from head to toes were running away from hell. I called my brother. I told him that New-York was under attack. I thought about Pearl Harbour and told him that World War III had just begun. I know it sounds silly. My brother is my closest friend. We help each other and we like to spend free times together. he turned his radio on. "That's crasy", that's all he said. Nobody in his office knew about it. My employee was asking here mother to turn her TV on. I heard that people were falling from the twin towers. I couldn't believe this. When a couple of hours later, I saw it on my TV. I'm 6'1'' guy, I'm a hard worker, I made a company from scratch, I'm not easely impressed . I felt tears on my eyes. I still remember some faces. I remember especially a firefighter sitting on a rock and crying. Tears were falling on his dusty chest. Thousand of miles away, on mine too. Two days after, I bought flowers for the Brussels American Embassy: for American kids who had lost a mom or a dad during that tragic event. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: It was just like every morning, I was out cold sleeping in my room. Dreaming about living back in New Jersey. At the time we were living in Alabama, my parents were jobless and we had no place to go. My Mom would regularly come in my room in the morning to wake me up. Though on this day, it was not a regular morning. The phone rang and it was my sister, she was in NYC and was crying. She was in the city for a college convention to represent her school at the Marriott right in the middle of the WTC. Though the meeting was not till 2 PM and she decided to sleep in at her friend?s apartment. The call was to tell my Mom the WTC was being attacked. As soon as she said that, the second plane hit the building. My Mom calmed her and told her it's ok and we loved her. "Dara, get up! The World Trade Center was hit by a plane," said my Mom as she burst into my room. Being half a wake and asleep, I told her to go away! To this day, I feel so bad for saying that. I got up out of bed and went into the living room. Both of my parents on the coach with their eyes glued to the TV. The picture shocked me so much, I did not know to either laugh or to cry from the shock. All I could say was if they called my sister. I went straight to the computer and went on-line. All I wanted to do was talk to friends in NJ, Maryland, NY and Washington D.C. to see if everyone was ok. Luckily, I did not lose someone I know to this tragedy. Though I felt bad for those who did. 9/11 will be a day I will never forget. A great thing was a couple days later was "trail of Tears" motorcycle trip. We were driving through town in Alabama and all these motorcycles with flags on them! It was an amazing site to see. America will be ok, but will never forget that Tuesday morning!!! She had school that day but I didn't so I was asleep(we do independent studies). She came storming into her room and shook me awake telling me that the WTC tower was hit by a plane. I of course(still in sleep mode) shook her off, thinking she was just joking around. I went back to sleep, she went to school. When she came back 30 minutes later, I was still asleep, so she woke me up and showed me the news, I didn't know what to say! I just sat there with my eyes wide open and my mouth in an 'O' shape. The first thing I did was call my mom, who hadn't left for work yet, she had heard the news while taking my lil sister to school. After receiving an email from its curators, I decided to use their encouragement and post a follow-up. Even now, some 2 years and 3 months later... I have found it difficult to open my heart and write some more of my life's story. What was so mundane... is now so surreal. 911 was a transition that has yet to be fully realized. This much is clear and has been so poignant. Have I changed since 911? Surely, I have become a source of stress in my immediate environment... my family and at my work. This, combined with my hearing problem, has made me nearly unbearable to my wife and kids. "Business as usual" is just not good enough for me now. I do not recognize token 'anythings'... I don't pretend that I haven't learned from the experience. Since I forwarded my "911 story" on August 25th, 2002 to the 911digitalarchive... (story #1461) I have learned much. One week after posting my 911-story, I learned that I DID know a victim of the 911 attacks... within a month after that... I learned that I knew 2 of the victims. The fog had returned that month. My innocent remorse turned bitter. I read the 'updates' of these two men's lives... posted by their families as memorials on the internet at the "Legacy.com" site. Memorials both. I knew both these men... even though I doubt they remembered me in the slightest. This we will never know will we? Anthony Portillo was an architect, a professional suffering much the same way I had when I worked in the tower... and Angelo Amaranto had been my janitor. Whereas Anthony, as an architect, had a future in the company over the long-term while I was there... was aloof... I felt as if an interloper. Mr. Amaranto on the other hand... befriended all those around him and oozed warmth and friendliness... as a janitor... was totally in a service position and was a point of brightness that I could rely on always. Mr. Portillo was obscurred in my memories due to his aloofness... Mr. Amaranto ..."Angelo" to me still... was like an angel. Angelo was difficult to find since he was listed as a victim under his janitorial service company name. He had worked on numerious floors in 2WTC. Such was my passion a year ago... that I literally waded through hundreds... maybe thousands... of names of 911 WTC victims before it was apparent of my past associations, depressing as they were. The arrow of despair was lodged solidly in my heart at this point. Curiously enough, I never maintained communications with my other coworkers from 2WTC. It would have been too much like trying to associate with a group that I had voluntarily 'divorced' from... cheapening their memories. Better to remember them as we did- independently... eternally. I feel guilt too... heart-rending guilt... that (as most survivors do) I survived and that they did not. I cannot help but recall all the brown-bag lunches I ate under the palms of the World Finanatial Center Winter Gardens... with my creepy sense of portending despair... sitting all the while in the "most structurally 'survivable' locations that were not already occupied. I know this makes me sound like a 'whack-job'... but it is the truth. And all this was 10 years into their... no, 'our'... past. How much sense does that make?! This is the life I live today. So what else has changed in my life you might ask... "quite a bit yet not enough" would be... is my response. I was approached, during the summer of 2002, by a dean from DeVry University in Tinley Park, Illinois to teach a class in Environmental Science as a part-time or adjunct instructor. I started teaching in November of that year and have been going strong, on two of their campuses, ever since (I have taught 7 classes to date). I find this opportunity very fulfilling. How fulfilling you might wonder? It is probably the only thing that has kept my life together... that is how fulfilling. Rather than point at all the deficientcies in my life... I will leave it here. I came that close to becoming a victim myself. Obviously, a more pathetic one... -I am better today. Millimeter by millimeter, I have come to measure my own worth as such as to justify perpetuation. I am able to give of my memories to my students, share my stories, and prepare them for 'world justice'. We have more of that in our future you know... hopefully it won't be as hard a slap next time. Ironically enough, one of my students this semester is named Osama. This is how I know it is real... and not just a bad dream. God shares his sense of humor with those who are able to appreciate it. I guess I am able now. I don't see myself posting another entry into your archive... not for quite awhile, so use your drive space for the real victims. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I woke up around six am and after my husband left for work, I went outside to do some yardwork. It was a beautiful day. I came inside around 8 am and turned on the Today show on NBC. I took little notice initally of the image of the burning building, assuming it to be some local fire or explosion that would soon be brought under control. I was brought up short when I realized exactly which building was involved and looked on in horror as the second plane dove into the second tower. Mesmerized by the images, I was rendered to a state there are no words for when I saw the report of the plane striking the Pentagon. My husband was in the building. He won't tell his story, so I'll tell it for him. He was called to watch CNN to see the damage done to the WTC.He and a crowd of coworkers were gathered aroud the TV images. In his area of the Pentagon, there are frequently loud thundering noises caused by carts transporting goods throughout the building and striking the walls.One such noise ensued. Everyone started. My husband quipped "Must be a plane hitting the building". Everyone laughed. Then, there was running in the hallway and smoke billowing through the halls. Suddenly the joke was not funny. My husband and his collegues shut down and secured all of the machinery, and fled. The consensus of opinion was that if you can be of no help, get out. Wise. Meanwhile I was trying to call with no answer. Frantic calls from my husband's family were tensely greeted with promises to call when I had news. Somehow, in my heart, I knew he was OK.He was, and he finally called from the home of a coworker who took him away from the site. I, on the other hand, could not get a telephone line out. So, I used an email contact to get information to my husband's family. It doesn't sound like much on the face of it, but it was a powerful day for me. I hadn't heard anything of the attacks and I looked up and saw a plane hit tower 1. At first I thought it was an accident, until tower 2 got hit. My mouth dropped open and my eyes widened. I'd never been so scared in my life. Not really concentrating on the project I was working on, I put my attention towards channel 7. Tower 1 had collapsed. Thats about the time my eyes watered and I couldn't speak. Then went tower 2. I was so confused. I didn't know what to think. The day was long and sad and everywhere I went, were puddles of tears. Later that night I had to work and the talk of the WTC was going all throughout the restauraunt. I just wanted to go home. The thought of it all made me sick and I left. I'll never forget 9/11. I also want to let everyone from New York and those who lost someone, that I pray for them everynight. I remember I was in the middle of brushing my teeth when my mother called up the stairs to turn on the TV. She said my niece had called and two planes had crashed into the World Trade Center buildings, they had collapsed and thousands were dead.I thought she must be mistaken. She couldn't have understood correctly, there couldn't possibly be that many dead. I thought she must mean a few hundred. Unfortunatly I was wrong. Before I could get to the TV she was calling upstairs that another plane had crashed into the Pentagon. I rushed to turn on my TV only to find another plane had crashed in Pennsylvania. I watched all day, numb, I saw every report, every picture they showed on TV concerning the crashes all the while hoping and praying this wasn't happening. I couldn't fathem how anyone could hate us so much they would kill thousands of people they didn't even know. It wasn't until that night that I cried. I remember getting on the computer and being on the internet when I heard Lee Greenwoods 'Proud to be an American' the floodgates opened and all I could do was cry my heart out for all those people who would never see their mother,father, sister,brother,son,daughter,husband, wife or friend. Whether or not you personally lost someone that day or not we all felt that loss. Even though my life has gone on I still grieve for those that were lost and those that were left behind. This is just a short version to everything that really happened. Here is our story. 8:48am: Melissa: I live one mile away from the World trade center. I was asleep when the first plane hit in Tower 1. I didn't hear anything, nor was I aware that anything was going on. I didn't have class till one so I had planned to sleep until eleven. I didn't realize what was going on in reality. Miguel: I was also asleep. I didn't plan on waking up anytime soon. I thought Melissa was already in school and wasn't expecting to hear from her until later on in the evening. 9:03am: Melissa: I was still asleep when the second plane crashed into Tower 2. Two minutes later, my mom ran into my room screaming. I found out later that my mom was relived I was home. I was still half asleep and incoherent when my mom told me to watch the TV. I quickly jumped out of bed and ran into the living room. There to my horror, I saw both Towers on fire. My mother and her boyfriend told me what had happened and I kept thinking it was a dream. I forced myself to leave the TV so I could brush my teeth and make myself a cup of coffee. I knew this was going to be a long morning. Someone in my building had made mention about Con Edison being close to the WTC site. My mother and I decided to spend the rest of the morning collecting water, candles, and canned food just in case of emergency. 9:12am: Miguel: My mom came into my room to wake me up and told me about the horrors that were happening. I turned on my TV and while watching the news, I thought "Who could've done this?" I knew this wasn't an accident. I was also concerned for Melissa. Was she there, in her school? I just kept hoping she was okay. Every time I heard the phone ring, I jumped. I kept hoping it was Melissa. Finally after a few minutes, she called and told me she was home. I was so relieved. She asked me to do her a favor and go online. She couldn't go on the computer or stay on the phone because the lines kept going dead and she wanted her friends to know she was okay. 9:28am: Melissa: My mother and I were glued to the TV all morning. The news said it was a "Terrorist Attack on New York." But in a blink of an eye, we saw Tower 2 disappear. I couldn't believe it. Although I had saw it for myself, I kept asking my mother what happened. My mind couldn't take it. I went into hysterics. I was sobbing and screaming "I can't take this anymore. I want to leave New York." Reports kept coming in about the Pentagon, which was also hit and I was thinking about why anyone would want to do this to us. 10:28am: Miguel: Tower 1 had collapsed. I saw it on TV while I was on the computer talking to our friends. I told everyone that someone will pay for what they did to us. Little did I know, in 24 hours, I was going to get the saddest news I ever heard since this whole ordeal happened. I'm going to fast forward to the next day, because there's just too much information that happened that day. September 12, 6:00am: Melissa: I had to get out of the house. I couldn't stay and keep watching the news. I decided I wanted to go to Queens and see Miguel. I got dressed, walked to Delancey St station and hoped on the F train (I was thankful that the train was running.) I got to Queens at 7am. As soon as I saw Miguel, I gave him a big hug. We talked for about 15 minutes and then fell asleep. I hadn't slept all night and I didn't realize how tired I was. When I woke up later that day, I began to watch the news (there was nothing else to watch) and I felt depressed. I kept wondering how many casualties there were and I was hoping and praying that I didn't know anyone. A half hour later, I found out someone I knew (although not very well) died. 1:30pm: Miguel: Melissa and I were watching the news about the massive rescue and cleanup they were going to in Lower Manhattan. We were both hungry and I decided to get us something to eat. I went outside and bumped into one of my neighbors, who told me some devastating news. My best friend, Richard Allen, died instantly in Tower 1 when the first plane had crashed. I ran into his sister and she confirmed it for me. I went back home and told Melissa what happened. Although Melissa didn't want to go home due to how I was feeling, she eventually did. I knew I had to deal with his death on my own. But I was glad my friends were there for me. Present time: Melissa: I can never forget what happened on 9-11. It's as if it happened yesterday. Generations to come will hear about what happened. One day when I have children, they're going to hear about 9-11 through school and through me. I will tell them "that was the day our freedom came under attack, but united we stand and united we overcame." Being that he was sick and wasnst breathing well he had to stay in the hospital. As the days passed he was moved to a room where we could be together. On the morning of September 11, 2001 i awoke to my son by myside; and every television channel showing the tragedy that unfolded. I couldnt believe what had just happened. Only five days old I worried for my son; a child so innocent and pure had just experienced a horrible tragedy. A tragedy that he could not even understand. I thought to myself what kind of world did i bring my son into. In December of 2001 my husband a Marine left to serve in Operation Enduring Freedom. I worried at times, but knew that the good Lord was watching over him for me which he always does. We would exchange brief emails letting me know that he was alright. Every time i seen the news talk about some kind of operation i thought about my husband. I worried if he was alright, i worried what i would do if he wasnt. I worried about what i would tell our son if his daddy didnt return home. Many of times i wanted to cry, but i had to be strong for my son. I thank God for my son; for he kept me strong when times got tough. My husband returned home on July 22nd of 2002. Although my husband cant tell me of anything that happened he asked me if what he did was right. I respond by telling him if in your heart you feel what you did was the right thing to do; I trust your oponion on whatever you did. I'd not set my clock radio the night before, so I heard no news and was scrambling to get ready to go to work - a 30-minute commute by bus. When I boarded my bus, I notice something very strange - only two passengers. Usually, the bus was full at that time. The driver and both passengers were grim-faced and silent. I arrived at my office building in downtown Portland still oblivious to what was happening in New York, the nation's capital and Pennsylvania. When I got to my office, I ducked into the men's room to put on my necktie. I encountered a co-worker, who said, "Man, isn't this all terrible?" I said, "What's so terrible?" "You haven't heard?" he said incredulously. "Planes hit the World Trade Center towers and the Pentagon, and another plane is missing over Pennsylvania." That was all I needed to hear. My younger sister is a flight attendant for Delta Air Lines, and I knew she was flying on the East Coast that day. Her fiancee, a musician, was living in New York and playing in the orchestra of "The Producers." I didn't know where he worked in relation to the Twin Towers. So I went straight to the telephone and called my parents in Eugene, Oregon. Lord be thanked, both my sister and brother-in-law were safe. My sister was stranded in Cincinnati, as all planes were grounded. She did not fly for United, so she had not lost any colleagues on the hijacked planes. But she was still badly shaken by the awful events of the morning, and of course, regardless of airline, all who make their living in the sky feel a special bond with each another. Her fiancee was stuck at home with no subway to get him from the Bronx to the theatre district - a moot point, since Broadway went dark that night for the first time since President Kennedy's assasination. Via e-mail, I hunted down other close friends in New York and learned that they were safe. One, a Columbia University doctoral candidate, described the atmosphere as "incredibly surreal." That evening, the bus was full for the trip home. There was a real sense of community aboard the bus, unlike most days when people shut off from others. We talked about the tragedy, about how sad and broken a city New York must be at that moment. A New Yorker in the group, an Italian-American from Brooklyn, suddenly spoke up. "Don't any of you worry about New York," he said, grimly but proudly and defiantly. "She's been through disasters before, and picked herself up and carried on, and she'll do it again. Don't worry. You'll see. New York's tough!" That lifted all of our spirits. One woman in the group had a boyfriend from Brooklyn, and it turned out that our staunch newcomer from the Big Apple knew they boyfriend's family. The talk drifted away from the tragedy to a small-world, "who knows who"" gabfest, and it was wonderful to be part of a community drawn together - in adversity, yes, but together - and bringing comfort and cheer to one another. I got the call at 7:11am this Tuesday morning, September 11, 2001. My mom woke me up to make sure I was OK and tell me not to go downtown. In my groggy state I heard her rambling on in a nearly crying state of shock and panic about the New York World Trade Center and crashing planes and the Pentagon, but it seemed like a foggy recollection of a b-rated, sci-fi film. I thought that it was touching that she was worried, yet unjustified. But when Ryan asked me why my mom had called and I started repeating some of the things that she had told me, "top of north World Trade Center tower collapsed" "another plane flew into the second World Trade Center tower" "Pentagon attacked" "no US outbound flights allowed in the skies for the first time in history" ... I saw the look on his face, and its severity and devastation finally hit me. We hurried, dazed, to turn on the television and see for ourselves what was happening. Ryan said, "Brad used to work there," and I said, "Brad lived there, and so do so many others." We clutched our cups of coffee with our eyes glued to the confusing images on the screen and our mouths agape. We could only see one tower, due to the smoke, but soon realized that the tower we couldn't see had actually collapsed. I will never forget the repeated image of a large commercial plane flying directly into the side of tower two, the very tower where I once stood and gazed at the spectacular, sprawling New York skyline. Shortly thereafter, the live coverage showed the second tower collapsing. I had taken a bite of my bagel, but had to choke it down because I suddenly felt nauseous. Paralyzed, I witnessed hundreds, if not thousands, of people dying. In addition to the people on the plane and in the building that must have died, people were jumping from the top of the building, trying to escape. Incomprehensible. My mother called again, and I immediately bumbled my words, trying to tell her that I was sorry - in the groggy state in which she had originally told me about the situation, I did not understand its magnitude. She went on to tell me not to worry about Robin, that she was OK. In my state of shock, I had forgotten that my little sister Robin was in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. Another hijacked plane had crashed in her vicinity, and Robin and her co-workers were evacuated from their building, the largest tower between New York and Chicago (and therefore a building suspected to be in danger). My co-workers were evacuated from their building, a block from the Chicago Board of Trade - obviously a potential threat to the safety of our friends in Chicago. My thoughts also immediately turned to my friends working in the Hancock building in Chicago - Helen, Mike, Barb, Gayle and everyone else at Near North. Ryan reached Brad via AIM. He was stunned. Fumin also sent us an instant message. At 11:39pm on a Tuesday night in Singapore, he witnessed these terrible events from the other side of the world. All day I have just stared at the reports on TV. From time to time, I am overcome with grief and just cry over the horror of it all. There is a feeling that it's not over and a terror of what could happen next. If the Pentagon and the World Trade Towers were vulnerable, what isn't? Much of downtown Seattle is shutdown - the Space Needle, the Pacific Science Center, the airport (obviously - like every other airport across the country), the largest skyscrapers and all of the government agencies. Ferries are not taking any cars. Navy war vessels are now parked in our harbors. Amtrack trains and Greyhound busses are halted. The sound of sirens hasn't stopped all day. I think I'll hear those warning cries in my sleep. Another World Trade building in downtown New York has just collapsed, due to the other nearby collapses/explosions, and World Trade Building No. 6 is expected to fall shortly. Wall Street is shut down until Thursday - extreme measures that have never been taken before. Our borders to both Mexico and Canada are under heavy surveillance. I fear to stop watching. I fear to continue watching. I don't know what I will wake up to tomorrow. The sound of an aircraft flying low right now made me hold my breath. I did not lose anyone I loved, but I did learn what capacity I have for empathy. I was watching TV on that morning, when suddenly images of the WTC building burning flashed onscreen. I called my sister in New York and asked her, "do you know whats going on?" She didn't, and I instrructed her to turn on her TV. In horror, we sat on the phone, eyes glued to the TV as we watched the 2nd plane hit the second tower. I watched as the trade centers fell, and so many lives were lost. I prayed, and I cried, and I called my husband just to tell him I love him. The petty arguments of the day before were now meaningless. I hung up the American Flag usually reserved for Independance day and Memorial Day... and I stayed glued to the TV for days, trying to understand what would drive people to do this to our wonderful country. So many lives were extingushed that day, but the survivors of 9/11 are still alive to tell their stories. As long as we still remember 9/11, as long as those of us who are still living breathe, and as long as we still enjoy the freedoms that make us Americans, the terrorists have not won. They may have won a battle by killing so many innocents, but they have not and will not win the war. The trees in Bryant park hadn't shown any signs of fall yet. Suddenly I heard this very loud, apparently low flying Jet plane over head. I looked up but it had past. I thought it strange that the plane was flying so low over mid town Manhattan and in a southern direction. As I got to work,475 5th ave, a man got on the elevator with me looking very upset. I asked him if he was alright. He said, "I hope I didn't see what I just saw, I think I saw a plane crash into the World Trade Center". I quickly ran to our showrooms that face 5th avenue. Looking south I was not able to see anything. I went back to my desk and turned on my radio. The very first reports were coming in. Yes, it was true. I quickly called home to my wife Dianne to tell her to turn on the news. I went back down stairs with my Co-worker Cathleen and we turned south and looked. Good lord in heaven, there it was. Black smoke pouring into the crystal blue mid September sky. We stood there momentarily, in shock as many others around us were. Traffic was stopped on 5th ave, in front of the Main branch of the Library. Just lots of New Yorkers incredulously starring with disbelief down 5th avenue. Wham! the second plane hit. A huge fire ball shot from the north side of the 2nd building. Crys of horror, terror and bisbelief filled the now still air. At this piont I felt this was not an accident but an attack. I looked up at the majestic Empire State building and thought, yikes this could be next. It was only 6 blocks away. We went back into our building and I called home. We were asked to stay at work, but after calling home again I knew I had to be with my newly wedded wife. I did get to speak to my kids Dom and Gina out in Davis California to let them know I was alright I wound up walking home to the upper west side of Manhattan with my friend Jane and thousands of folks through Central park. We could see fighter jets soaring over the city. It was so erry. Three things I will never forget till the day I die, the sound of the first plane, the sight of the second plane exploding into the side of the south tower, but most of all, the eyes of all the folks I saw that day. Eyes so full of all emotions one could never ever discribe. I lost one friend, A fire fighter Donald Regan, from Brooklyn. God rest you Donny. Tell us your story: Original Posting Location: Jersey City, New Jersey Comment: Our high school in Jersey City is nearly opposite the WTC, just a short trip across the Hudson River. Ironically, our first written/discussed topic for yesterday was, "American History: Who Cares?" As expected, the kids wrote about how boring it is, and how it's , "...not about us, or things that happen around here." Today, from the vantage point of our east facing windows, all that has changed.....mario *** I retired in 2004. I've been back a few times since then to visit friends who are still teaching. Each time I enter the building, I deliberately try to avoid looking towards Manhattan. But because the south facing main entrance is the required access, there is no choice but to look eastward. Each time I do so, I want to delude myself into believing that if I squint through the fog of passing time, I will see the Twin Towers still there. The illusion lasts but a second. All the kids that were in my classes are now gone. The new faces will never know what that day meant to those of us who experienced the tragedy as it happened. Their relationship to that day will, at best, come from the voices of older siblings who lived it, or from the weak vicariousness of a textbook. And though I know that these are poor means of learning, I pray that they understand that lesson solely in these ways. I was watching a morning talk show Regis and Kelly, I stepped out of the room, and when I came back in there was Breaking News on, and they showed the one tower in flames. I said what is this, I thought it was a preview for a Movie. After watching I could not believe it, a plane hit, and I said what a horrible accident, at that time I thought it was an accident. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: The day started like any other ordinary day. I woke up around 5:30 in the morning and did all my usual things. I ate breakfast, took a shower and got dressed. I rode on my bus. I was really happy because after school I was going to a friend's house. As the bus stopped outside the school everyone stood up. When I got off the bus one of my friends came up to me. We walked to our lockers and I opened my locker door. I reached in and grabbed my things for my first and second period classes. I walked into my first period class early as usual. My first period class is Spanish. We had the second part of a two-part test. It was a composition. After Spanish, I walked up to the second floor to my Global Studies class. We took notes and talked all period. In the last twenty minutes of class my teacher received a phone call. She hung up the phone and turned on the television. What I saw after that shocked me. We saw one of the twin towers in New York City. It was smoking heavily because a plane had crashed into it. Our class watched in shock for about three minutes and then in the background behind the second tower we could see a low flying plane. At that instant it flew right into the second tower. By that time we knew it wasn't an accident. The bell rang and the class got up and walked out. I walked downstairs to my third period gym class. When I got to the gym, the television was on and people were watching the live coverage of the World Trade Center accidents. During gym all I could think about was the people in New York City. After gym we changed back into are regular clothes. When I walked back into the gym, the television was still on. This time the broadcasters weren't talking about New York City. They were talking about another plane that had just crashed into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. Now I knew that something was terribly wrong. I walked back to my locker and grabbed my books for my fourth and fifth period classes. My fourth period class is Studio Art. In Studio Art we all watched the television also. Just before the bell rang they were talking about the World Trade Center towers. Just as the bell rang in that class the first tower fell to the ground. My fifth period math class that day went really slow. After fifth period I had sixth period lunch. Sometime before lunch and after fifth period the second tower had collapsed and that was the talk of lunch. My friends and I talked about who we thought was behind the attack. Most of it said it was Germany and Japan trying to get revenge on America for losing World War 2. One of my friends at my table guessed it was the Taliban. When lunch was over I went to guided study. It was boring because I didn't have any work (neither did anyone else) and the teacher didn't turn on the television. After that I went to my eighth period Earth Science class. We didn't do a thing. All we did was watch a press conference with the leader of the Osama Bin Laden. I didn't understand a word that he said but it sounded like he wasn't being truthful. After that period I went to English. The day of school was over and I was on my way home. In the following weeks, the United States found out that Osama Bin Laden was indeed a liar. We started a war. A war in which President Bush said was a war on terrorism. Although we have not found Bin Laden yet I hope someday we do and he will get what he deserves. This whole experience impacted me in a few ways. One of my uncles worked right down the street from the World Trade Center. He had to quit working for almost a month. He now is working again but he said he may never be the same again because he was so close when this all happened. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I will never forget the morning of 9/11/01 it is a day that will play over & over in my mind for the rest of my life. All I could think to do is call my family memebers & tell them how much I love them. You listen to some people today say that tradgedy didnt hit them directly at home in their family but I see it differnt, on 9/11 America became one big family, ONE NATION UNDER GOD! So as for the events on this day I will always remember my brothers & sisters that will forever be TRUE AMERICAN HERO'S!
