My father's girlfriend called me in a panic, trying to find out where my sister in law was. This quiet natured woman was screaming at me to wake up, and screaming at me to tell me where Kathy was. I didn't understand. "She's in eastern Washington, why?". " Oh thank God!" and she let out a sigh of relief.Then she said that New York had been bombed....She said to turn on the TV. It's always bad when they never say which channel. Like millions of other people, I sat there in stunned silence and then the tears came. Kathy frequently flew to New York on buisness, and everyone was trying to track her down.I assured her that I'd call her back just in case Kathy had changed her plans. As I hung up, I realized Kathy frequently changes buisness plans WITHOUT telling anyone,so then I started to panic. Phone lines were jammed, even in Seattle, so I quickly realized E-mail was my best bet to find her that day. I composed a urgent E-mail to her, and prayed. Shortly after that was sent, the news came on again. There was a plane that had crashed in Pittsburgh. My mom and stepdad were visiting family in Pittsburg, so my panic level rose again. After several hours of E-mails and trying the phones, I finally reached my mom. They were safe, still visiting family. E-mails were pouring in, and when the phone lines were free for a moment, I'd get another panicked call from family and friends worried. I told them what I knew, that she was probably in eastern washington, but if she had changed her plans, I'd find out and notify them. More frantic E-mails were sent, and just as my fear had reached a fever pitch, Kathy answered. She was fine, and had postponed buisness in New York. I notified everyone who had asked about her, and collapsed in gratitude. I was lucky, and then came the guilt that I was so lucky. I went from not knowing where my sister in law and parents were, to feeling so sad. There were now thousands of families who were frantically calling and E-mailing, only to find out that they weren't umong the lucky ones. I had lost my fiance in June of that year, and his loss taught me what the meaning of the word 'gone' really is. Now thousands understood that as well, and my heart was heavy. I believe in angels, and that our soul survives death, so I've always believed my fiance's spirit haunts me. I asked him to go into the rubble and comfort those who were trapped, and be with those souls who had died, so they wouldn't be as scared. I think he helped, I really do. I fielded calls for the next few days, tracking everyone down and notifying them our loved ones were safe. We were lucky, so lucky. My wish is that day, none of the families would have learned the true meaning 'gone'. To the families of those who were lost, we have not forgotten. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: It was horrific to know that what I thought was debris were people jumping from the building. I remember that a few hours later, we were sent home and as I walked home (thankfully, I only live a few blocks from where I work), I was amazed at the amount of people on the street. It was akin to an exodus from the City. I also remember that planes flew over-head and that all of us stopped and looked up. We all seemed to have the same thought -- is it one of ours? After watching hours of television, I knew I had to do something. I guess my father was right when he told my sisters and me that a second language would come in handy. Having a very close, working relationship with the Red Cross, I called them and headed out to Bellevue. I remember having a sticker placed on my jacket that identified me as ?Translator--Spanish/Espa?ol?. It was total chaos and I remember my husband coming to the location I was standing at and telling me we had to go home. I had been there for approximately 8 hours -- on my feet -- and I didn?t even realize it. I came back the following morning and started volunteering again. I remember the hush that fell over the area I was at as one of the first of many refrigerator cars approached the hospital. Thereafter, the decision was made to move operations to the Armory. I went to the Armory and just remember working; taking names; assisting in filling out forms; listening to people; trying to help. My employer was incredibly understanding, affording me the opportunity to help. I think they knew that this was my way of healing my internal feelings. I also remember going through debriefing before and after volunteering, however, if you were to ask me what we discussed, I could not really tell you. I continued volunteering until Friday, 9/14 and I guess what I remember the most is an elderly woman coming to me for assistance. By that time, we were already asking for anything that would help the identification process. The woman became very pensive at one point and said, ?You know -- my husband is not a man that is really important in that place. He just washes dishes. But he?s important to me. Do you think you will be able to find him?? I had no answer except to tell her we were doing all that was possible and thinking how empty that sounded. At some point, the determination was made that professional grief counselors would be brought in that were language-specific. In the back of my mind, I knew that I could not continue my volunteering. I was becoming too emotional to be of any help much longer and I was not sleeping. Friday night, I went home, slept for about 5 hours, woke and learned that my son, who is a Navy Seal, had gone ?underground.? I decided to go back to sleep. It healed a little but it wasn?t until I heard from him this past week, that I can say I have slept soundly. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: It was around 7:30 am waking up to the sound of my dad's footsteps. He kept yelling "Oh my gosh!" and I walked to my brother's room and turned the tv on. As soon as the screen appeared I saw the second plane hit the tower and I could not believe what I was seeing. I fell to the floor and wept and kept watching the people running from the area. Both tv's at our house were on high volume so the screaming and the noise just erupted through my house as if we were in there. My heart literally crushed when I looked closer to the buildings and saw people clinging on the windows and even a few just jumping off in panic. Right then I just broke down. I headed to school that morning and in our school we have a huge tv screen, I walked in and the whole school was around the tv. I walked to my friend and looked at everyone else and I just started crying because the images and the though of the people in the buildings and the people that had jumped off just kept flashing in my mind. Throughout the day, the lounge were just full of people stuck to the tv and I just kept weeping every second. I came home and just went straight to the tv set and cried in my room. During that week, they had cancelled all flights and the nearby church St. Paul's were going to asess at least 400 people. I donated some blankets and food for their aid. In my leadership class, we raised $2500 in a week from school and donated it to the American Red Cross. The following week the church had a silent vigil which I attended and it was just so hard to sit there while tears came down my cheeks. Till now my heart still breaks because of the images still pasted in my mind. Everyday I pray to God above and seeing all those people that died that they are looking down on us because they were the many angels that God was asking for. At the time I was working for Midway Airlines in Raleigh, NC. They had gone bankrupt a month before. I was also 5 months pregnant. I turned on the TV and watched as the first tower was smoking and then as the 2nd plane hit the 2nd building. I was in shock and horrified. I didn't want to beleive we were under attack. I got into the car around 9:30 and somewhere along the way the pentagon got hit. Now I was scared, if they got to the pentagon-our national defense-nothing was sacred. My only calming point was that the airport was probably the safest place to go. As I got to the airport and road the bus to the terminal, they grounded all flights and my co-worker and I looked at each other, she voiced what I was thinking. What do we do??? I shook my head and said, "I don't know, this is unheard of." At the terminal, most of the passengers were at the curb taking any bus they could to get out of there. We walked across the terminal and into the gate area. The tarmac looked like the expressway after an accident. One plane on top of each other. We went up to the gates and found the supervisor. "Can't beleive I forgot my ID. I can't go anywhere." she complained "and I know what red means......we don't fly" We asked what we could do and she said see if AA needs help. There was a plane that American was unloading (a 757 in fact) that was going from tampa to LaGuardia and had to stop here. One of the passengers said "its your damn fault that they had to stop here. " to the AA agent. The terminal was quiet, the TV's were off because of it,except for the ones on each end. We gave people were they could get a room and helped get them to the shuttle buses. After we were in our breakroom watching as the towers fell and all the coverage. The terminal was secure there was no passengers there. They locked up the security gate and kept the ramp agents on to check the planes for bombs. It was eerie that day to see how it affected the airports and disrupt life. 5 years later I remember it like it was yesterday. The feeling that flows through you, the sadness and fear. The sights and sounds. After,I heard other peoples stories, co-workers and other airline employees. Some where very sad and others I was stunned at. I can't imagine not being there and experiencing it the way I did and the thing I remember most before then is about a week or less before then. It was a beautiful night, sitting on a luggage cart looking at the cloudless sky. There was a serenity there like a calm before the storm. We talked about how the passengers have been so miserable and what they expected from us. At first, i didnt really know much about the WTC. I got home later that day to see it all over the news and in our local papers. I was horrified. It was like something out of Die hard Movie. Although i never knew any victims of 9/11, Even now, it plays on my mind and sometimes I even dream about it, being there and watching it for myself. I dont know why. I have my own little Minute silences each year on september 11th wherever i am to remeber those innocent heros and victims who were taken away by such evil people. I cant write what i really think of these animals, but I'm sure everyone knows what I mean. If i could afford to, I would love to come over to visit Ground Zero and lay some flowers. Hundreds of civil servants lost thier lives in the service of thier city and country. But 9/11 has caused an undesirable political situation in the United States. A terrorist attack on the world trade center is not a new phenomenon, nor is the hijacking of airliners. Yet due to the number of americans lost this event has given Bush and other politicians the ability to flaunt thier power uncontrollably. It has become almost a sin to question the motives or actions of the Bush administration, which can hide behind terrorism. In this country terrorism is not really a problem. Compared to areas like Israel we are not in danger at all. The fact that these terrorists were so successful does not mean that all of a sudden terrorism is a dire threat, we are in just as much danger now as we were 10 years ago when another terrorist tried to bring down the WTC. I didn't start work until 9 am, but it took me a 1/2 hour to get to work every day. I always listened to the Today show on the radio as one station played NBC. I was very close to work when the announcment of the first plane hitting the tower was made. At that time it was assumed that it was a small commuter plane. As I was driving into the parking lot at work the Today show was interviewing a woman and she said "Oh my God, another plane just hit!" I got out of my car and saw some co-workers. When I told them that the Twin Towers were hit, they basically accused me of fibbing. I went into the building and apparently I was white because when I asked to see a TV the people were "What is the matter!?!?" I just told them to turn on the TV. My thoughts were with my husband and family during the minutes and hours that passed. I just got done saying to someone "Thank god we live in East-Gods-Country Pennsylvania" when the news came about the plane crash in Somerset. This plane crashed not more than 2 miles from where my husband works. Once I knew he was ok, I tryed to reach my family. My parents, brother and sister-in-law were suppose to fly to NYC from Boston that day to go to see the Producers. I thought their plane was in the morning, Thank God it was later. Needless to say, they never went. Both my children were in Elementary School. I went back and forth on whether I should pick them up or not. I finally decided to leave them in familiar surroundings and safety, but when I did pick them up, there was only 1 or 2 other kids in each of their classes as parents had come to get their children. I thank the professionals at the school everyday for their compassinate handling of this day with mine and other children as they remained innocent of the true extent of the tragedy until their parents could break it to them. I would not let my children see the TV, but once they were asleep, I could not turn off the news. Daily little things remind me of September 11th, working at the computer and thinking of the individuals who went to work and didn't come home. My thoughts and prayers are always with them and all the families affected both on September 11th and with all the happenings since then. Thank God for all the heros, both known and unknown then and now. Pray for all the children who will be living in a world that never has the innocence it did before September 11th. Tell us your story: The Pentagon Washington, DC 09-11-01 BNN Page Arlington: Plane crash/vacinity of 14th St bridge/George Wash Pkwy/Arlington units have witnessed an airplane crash very close to the Pentagon?further details as they become available/ BNN 624 MDT Group 12 9:45 am 9/11/01 I left for work on a sunny Tuesday morning at about 6:50 am?as usual and stopped for coffee at Starbucks?as usual. For no particular reason I bought a piece of coffee cake not knowing it would be my breakfast and lunch. Arriving at work in Old Town Alexandria at 8 I was greeted by my fellow employees also beginning their days. For the past month or so I have been taking my portable radio and scanner into the office to suplement the old Radio Shack model I use to monitor the DC Fire dispatch. This allowed me to also keep tabs on the Fairfax Co Fire channels with my GE-MPD radio and scan the Alexandria and Arlington 800mhz frequencies with the Radio Shack Pro 39. Sometime around the 9:00 hour a fellow worker informed me that she had heard that an aircraft had hit the WTC in New York. I instinctively switched on the radio in my office to WTOP-AM , a long time source for concise information and news. Through the AM static we listened to the reports from New York with updates almost constantly. A second plane hit the tower #2 and the staff became engrossed in the scratchy reports. While answering the ?E? mails that had accumulated over night and listening to the radio I kept a close ear on the scanners. The local reports were the usual BLS calls, accident with injuries, etc. Around 9:30 am I caught the Arlington Co Fire dispatcher shouting to?I think?a Battalion Chief that ?there is a plane down at the 14th St bridge !!! ? (the site of the Air Florida crash in the 80?s) Too much to be a coincidence I jumped up out of my chair, grabbed my radios, announced the news to the office and left for my car. I drive a used Virginia State Police car, a 1994 Chevy Caprice?equipped with 2 mobile Trunk Tracking radios, a Motorola 16 channel Radius to cover the 460 mhz range and the two portables I use in the office and while on foot. On the way out I felt an obligation to inform the local TV producers whom I work with from time to time of the incident. Speed dialing from my NEXTEL I called WRC-4(NBC), FOX ?5 and WUSA ?9 (CBS). While on the phone to Ch 4 I heard the Arlington dispatcher indicate the crash was in the Del Ray area, next?Crystal City?next the Navy Annex and finally the area at the Pentagon. I informed the Fox news desk of the crash and the young lady who answered shouted the information all over the newsroom. Traveling North on Rt 1, knowing my urgency and conscious of the city traffic I turned on my headlights, activated the emergency strobe tail lights and began to use the air horn to make my way to towards the crash. As I approached the overpass into the Del Ray area I could see a massive cloud of black smoke behind Crystal City to the North. Rt 1 divides at Rt 395?right to DC, left to Rt110, which runs adjacent to the Pentagon. I sped along 110 until I found a median cross over, made a U-turn and proceeded up the wrong way an exit ramp to the parking area. I covered the 4 plus miles in 5 minuets. I could see the evacuations well under way and hundreds of people milling around the Pentagon lawns. As I rounded the ramp up to the fire I began to think about where to leave my car! I noticed a burgundy van parked on the grass at the ramp merge and pulled along side out of the way. A newswoman was preparing her Fox microphone and her cameraman was setting up his tripod. Now it was time to GO!! What to take!!?? I fumbled with a spare battery for the Sony HandiCam, hung my IDs around my neck, turned off the lights and flashers and popped the trunk. Out of the car I grabbed the Sony, 2 spare Hi8 tapes, the Nikon FM-2 with a 35mm lens, a 60-300mm zoom and 3 rolls of film. Jamming it all in my pockets I took OFF! The first thing I shot was a man in a suit examining parts of the wreckage strewn all over the street approximately 150 yards from the impact area. Next, the sheer spectacle of the Pentagon on fire with the thick black smoke rolling over its face to the South. My mind was racing and I knew I had to prioritize the visual overload of the scene. Stressed over and over by my best friend Tom Yeatman, also a freelance videojournalist, shoot the action first, the scene last?there was action everywhere! Moving along the West face of the building toward the impact area I found medics treating a dozen or so victims. Shooting that I moved further along to a burned man being loaded into an ambulance. With the burning building behind him he pleaded with someone to tell his family that he was all right. Moving again I focused on the impact site?trucks, hoses, volunteers with backboards, clergy, fire and smoke everywhere. I heard a helicopter over my right shoulder, turned and was able to shoot the U S Park Police helicopter landing to fly out the first patients. The scene was surreal with scores of emergency vehicles in the background. The ground crew motioned for someone to come forward and, looking to my right I shot a severely burned man being rushed by on a gurney for a fly out. Distracted from that scene by a crunching thump I turned again to the building in time to shoot the end of the collapse of the upper 3 floors. Just about then I was told by an ATF agent that ?you might want to leave?a second plane is 10 minuets out !!? I moved across the street searching the sky. All that I could think was what an opportunity it would be to get it on film! That mindset usually sets in when I acknowledge that events are completely out of my control. Hearing what I thought to be another explosion I looked across the Potomac for another plume of smoke and to see if the Washington Monument and the Capitol were still there! Later I found out that it was a sonic boom from the F-16s arriving from Langley Air Force Base in Virginia to protect the Capitol! As some order settled in and more and more police arrived we were pushed back to perhaps a quarter of a mile from the impact site. Helicopters began landing behind us and we were again moved to a Citgo gas station about a half mile away where the balance of the coverage has taken place. As always, Tom Yeatman was in touch by cell to advise, direct and assist. He and I have had a remarkable relationship over the past 15 years shooting color prints for ourselves, 35mm Black and white for AP, UPI, The Post and the Times to, now, video. Keeping the local producers apprized of my progress and shopping my tape, Tom was indispensable! Over time we have established credibility with the local stations by bringing in only what we think they can use. WRC ?4 was anxious to see what I and and asked that I take it to their live truck for dubbing and / or feed to the station?it didn?t work. By this time I was well over a mile from my car! I asked the authorities to back track through what now had become a crime scene and was refused. Moving West up the hill to the to the Navy Annex I hopped a 4 foot brick wall into Arlington National Cemetery and walked the mile plus through the gravestones. Scaling a 12 foot fence just inside the yellow police tape I hopped into the car and off to the stations; 4,5 and 9 in numerical order. At 4,an NBC affiliate, the local producer looked the images over and called the staff from MSNBC and Dateline to the dubbing room. They all bought it. Fox?s man on the desk took counter notes to highlight the best segments for his producer. Channel 9 ran it with a voice over before I even got home. Finally, at home after the most remarkable 8 hours I have ever spent, sore, exhausted, hungry and a bit dehydrated I watched it all unfold on the TV. It seems that everyone used almost everything I had, either with a voice over or background for lead stories. As it turns out, so far, my tape is the only one showing the victims, close up shots of the fire and the events unfolding within minuets of the impact. As one of what were probably dozens of photojournalists there, I was fortunate to shoot the tape of a lifetime! I guess I was lucky and in the right place at just the right time. Tom tells me that it wasn?t luck?it was being prepared. I credit Tom for teaching me the logic of a spot news shoot, a long-term relationship with the local stations?and a lot of luck! I was in rural town America where I live and work and raise my family when we were attacked. I stared at my desk for most of the rest of the day until I could go home and see for myself what in the world was going on. Far from the danger but still hit very hard with emotions from knowing that my way of life and the freedoms that I want for my childern were being theatened. I was in total shock for weeks after 9-11 and still hurt today when I think of all the childern who lost their parents, the husbands and wives who lost each other and the fact that they will never be able to replace them. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: My most vivid memory of Sept. 11 was the noise I heard when the first plane hit The Tower. On Hudson Street in Greenwich Village (just under a mile away), it sounded as if a huge steel pipe had fallen from some scafolding close by, yet far away. I learned of what had happened. On Hudson Street, the trees were in full bloom and so obstructed my view. People speculated that it was a small, private plane that had gone off course. As a flight attendant, my first cynical reaction was that it was terrorism. Some older people were recalling the plane that had hit The Empire State Building so many decades ago. I knew differently. It was a perfect day outside. The second plane hit. I ran home to organize getting my daughters out of school; the older one from a school near Lincoln Center. (I left my 9 year old at her Hudson Street school because I believed there she was oblivious to the events-I found out later her classroom had a picture perfect view of the Trade Centers). My husband was uptown at the dentist, waiting to have oral surgery. He was aware of what was going on. They had the radio on in the office...but he stated to me "I've been waiting an hour... can't I just finish this (dental) appointment first?" I had a new baby- a one month old boy. I recall walking between home on Bank and West Streets to watch CNN and use the telephone (while it still worked- the phones soon went dead) and down to the corner to look at the Trade Centers for the 'live view'. New York stood still... people stood in the streets, mouths agape. Cars stopped in the middle of the road, doors open, news radios blasting. It was like a movie. I recall pushing the baby carriage north up Greenwich Street, away from the view of The Towers. All of a sudden, there was a collective gasp and everyone ran forward towards the collapsing building (a mile away). I looked back, saw The Towers collapsing, and said "Oh". That was it. I kept walking. That night, a beautiful, clear night, we sat with our neighbors in the flowering median of The West side Highway (West Street) and watched the emergency vehicles rush up and down. The next day, I felt we were living in Kosovo... tanks and police and armored cars and trucks full of military rode down our quite streets. Rows and rows of construction workers and electricians and steel workers marched military style down Hudson Street from the last downtown subway stop on 14th Street towards what only the day before had been The Trade Center. They too, were heroes. You had to see them! I guessed most that day were volunteers. Heroes. Strange police officers from far away places in 'Smokey Bear' hats blocked 14th Street and checked your I.D. before allowing you downtown to make sure you were a resident. Our local police and fire houses were draped in black and purple. Our local hospital's outer walls were lined with flyers of the missing and dead. In July, I had a melt down. I guess it took me that long to realize I was not watching a movie on Sept. 11... for it all to sink in. I never 'saw' The Towers until they were gone, (though I now realize I saw them every day from my bedroom window). The Towers were just always there... and now I miss them terribly. She was always on time so we all knew something was up. When she arrive she told us a plane had hit the world trade center. All of us were shocked as we turned on CNN and heard reporters speaking of the crash. Minutes after we turned on the television we witnessed the second plane crash. Then a reporter went to the Pentagon to interview someone there. We heard a man speak about whether he though it was a terrorist attack or not and then we heard screaming and a loud noise. The man, still be recorded by the reporter, said that it felt like an earthquake. Everyone still in shock, had their eyes glued to the television set. When class let out the halls were filled with people crying and everyone was sent home. I am very fortunate that I did not lose anyone in the attacks, but some of my friends weren't so lucky. As I can inside about 8:45 or 9:00, I saw other members of the band gathered around the T.V. in the band hall. No one knew what was going on. There was so much confusion. All I heard was that the White House was being evacuated, and I wondered why. I called my mom at home, but she had just heard and didn't really know what was going on either. Every one was confused. I don't think the full impact of what had happened had hit any of us yet.When I finally understood what was going on, I couldn't believe it. I just sat in shock with my fellow classmates. I was filled with so much sorrow, but for some reason I couldn't cry. The first time I remember crying was on Thursday. I went to a service at my church. It wasn't a formal service, but the youth group sat on the floor of the chapel with my pastor. I really don't remember much of what was sad, but I do remember the immense grief in all of us. What amazes me is the good that can come out of such horrible events. Tell us your story: I had started the day a bit anxious due to the scheduled walk off of some of the workers in are office that are affiliated to a different union than I am. That morning the Quebec City office where already being blocked by picketing lines and most of are workers where stuck outside. However since we are located in a non government office space, shared with other public services, I thought that would make picketing almost impossible. I was right, we all got in without any problems that morning. I was reading that morning Emails when, from one of my co-workers cubical, I hear a resounding ?QUOI ????? (in English WHAT ???). Andre run?s out of his office to tell me that something had hit one of the World Trade Center tower. ?A small plane!!!? he says. We both run to the break room and open the TV. Andre has a pilots licence and I am a student pilot so anything that has to do with aircraft is of great interest. I remember thinking, as we first saw the images on the TV, that this impact was no small plane. It had to have been a lot bigger than a Cessna or even a Piper Twin to leave such a gapping hole in such a big office tower. That amount of damage could only be from a commercial aircraft. At this point people are filtering in from other offices to see what was wrong. There are a lot of questions going around the small room. How could a pilot make such a mistake as to collide with such a large building in such good weather? Will they get to the people in those floors on time? How will they get that fire under control? Could this not be a boom? I also remember somebody saying that a collision like that had happen before in N.Y. with the Empire State building in heave fog. Is this the same think? But just then the second plane hit. Silence fell in the room. My co-workers faces went from interrogation and concern for the people inside the first tower to a look of downright fear and disbelieve. I for one was in shock and could not believe what had just happened. I think we just stood there for about a minute or two before someone finally broke the silence. I immediately broke out of the break room to call my wife at work and inform her of what had just happen. Neither she nor the people that work there believed me at first. I don?t blame them. I was not sure I believed it myself. The office was a buzz with speculation as to what had just happened. No way could this be an accident. People are calling family and friends. Get the word out. I get a call from the Lan administrator in Quebec city. He is stuck outside the office behind a picket line. He wants me to take his calls while he is stuck there. I informed him of what I had just seen on the news and tell him to get the word out where he is. As I get back to the TV we here reports that the Pentagon is on fire. By this time some of the people are crying. I will soon join them. This is happening miles away, in an other country, yet I am crying and unable to carry on with my work. I think of my 10 year old in school and 4 year old in daycare. Do I go and get them to make sure they are safe? What should I do? What will I tell the kids? They will be asking questions. I don?t want to alarm them. I finally decided that the best way I could be of any help to anybody was to stay at my post in case of an event in Canada. Our ministry is the equivalent of the FCC in the USA and could be ask to participate in an emergency to identify or locate radio signals. When the towers feel, I again called my wife to let here know what had happened and that I loved her. At this point most of us are sitting in the conference room and listening to CNN, ABC, and our local news. No more speculations, no more theory as to what had happened. It is now clear. This is an attack. By 1h00 pm the staff in our offices in Montreal and Quebec city are told that they can leave because they are located in high rise buildings. The fear is spreading to Canada. Offices in Ottawa and Toronto are shutting down. Buy 4h00 pm most of us had left the office and where on there way home. I pick up my son at school and my daughter at daycare all the while listening to the local FM station. The teacher in my sons class had already explained a bit of what had happened that day. I was relived to see that he actually understood a lot of the situation. One question did how ever shake me up a lot : Dad, are we safe here in Sherbrooke? That was one question which I could not answer any more. I told him that I would do my very best to keep him safe and that events like the ones in NY and Washington where exceptional. This question would come back quite often over the next couple of days. Those who, on September 11, did these monstrous and unthinkable things wanted to hurt the United States of America but they ended up hurting humanity itself. History will judge them, and they will be remembered with the likes of Hitler and other oppressors of freedom and rights. I sincerely hope that they will never find comfort in is. I woke up and turned the t.v. on - CNN news was on - and I was watching the news of the 1st tower after it had been hit. The reporter was rehashing what had just happened minutes before and began saying "Here's an instant replay of the plane crashing into the tower of the World Trade Center. No! Wait a minute! What's going on? Oh my God, 'There's a 2nd plane'"! "Oh my God!" he said again. "There's a 2nd plane! This can't be happening! OH GOD! A second plane just crashed through the other tower of The World Trade Center"! As I watched in total dismay, my heart just sank. I can't explain it. I knew this wasn't a movie. I knew that what had just happened before my eyes was real and I stood there totally numb - in shock. The tears did not come right away. I felt the need to do something - but I couldn't. I just kept watching - pacing the floor. Then other reports came in - "A 3rd plane just crashed into the Pentagon"! The only thing that kept going through my head was "Why was this happening"? Later as I drove to work, it was reported on the radio that Tower II collapsed. I barely remember driving. Just as I got to work I watched on the television there - Tower I collapse. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. The tears came. Later, the 4th plane that went down in Pa. from the heroic efforts of the passengers on board - God bless their loved ones. The trauma to ALL those people, from EVERY Nationality! Their family! Their friends! Their co-workers! Their neighbors - even their acquaintances! This evil act of terror - I feel - is an act to ALL Mankind! Not just Christianity and/or America. These people who did this. All those who are or have been involved, shall see the light of day. "Vengeance is MINE sayeth the Lord"! I pray that God's WILL be done, not our own. I pray that God will forgive us all and heal our land. I pray for Favor in God's sight as we (This Nation) and all those who CHOOSE to abide in this Glorious Country - stand firm once more in our beliefs. And hold strong the words "Under God" and "In God We Trust". These words that are the very foundation of which this Beautiful country was born. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: On September 11th I was in the 8th grade. I usually go to homeroom class first which starts at around 9:00 am. I walked in there as usual and sat in my seat like it was an ordinary day. No one knew what was going to happen in just a matter of mintues. Then the bell rang to go to first period. I have English first period, and im usually one of the first students that walk in. When I walked in, there were two other students watching the news along with my English teacher. They were all quite. When I looked at what they were watching, I saw one building that had smoke covering it. I didnt really recognize what the building was because I wasnt too familiar with the Twin Towers. When the late bell rang, and all the students were in their seats, everyone was talking to their friends like usual. My english teacher told everyone to quite down because something bad had just happend in New York. A couple of minutes later, our school's electricy went shut. All the lights, computers, and TVs when off. We were all really scared and confused. The principal soon made an announcement that they were working on the electricty outside and must of cut a cord, but they were soon going to fix it soon. He also said that the electricy had nothing to do with what was going on in New York. The rest of the day, many students when home. Everyone was so sad and wished it had never happend. Tell us your story: My teacher always watched tv in the morning,and one morning I walked into his classroom and saw the World Trade Center burning down.I was thinking,"Who could of done such a thing?"I knew it would be a terrible day from that point on.I heard about thousands of people dying in the crash and I knew that this will be a moment in history.There are good points and bad points on this subject.The only good point is that it brought our nation together and closer to God.The bad point is that many people lost friends, family, and co-workers in this tragic event.I'm glad we have captured most of the terrorists , but at the moment,Bin Laden is still on the loose.When we catch him he will get whst he deserves for doing this to such a great nation.This will never leave the minds of survivors.9-11-01 is an event to remember.... My country is far away from New York, but I feel for you. I were listening at the radio, then a woman told us about the exident. About a fly who had crashed into a building. I turned on the tv, end then I saw the pictures. Its terrible!Its much about it in Tv, and I am so proud of America! You standing up for eachother, and help another...
