My son, however, lives in Brooklyn and witnessed the second bombing take place at the World Trade Center. I must say, I was quite petrified when I couldn't reach him to see if he was ok. He, on the other hand, was able to get to the phone and call me a little after 12:00PM. His was the sweetest voice I could have ever heard! I cried, not just for him because he was safe, but for the thousands of innocent lives that were lost to such an evil force. I am a newly ordained Minister, and I found it so very difficult to speak comforting words after seeing the disaster on television. Now, after a week has passed, and we have seen the devistation in the faces of the crews working so feverishly to try to find some semblance of life amidst the rubble, my thoughts are not of fear. My thoughts are that of hope. We have seen a city turn around and see each other for the first time...helping each other as though their lives depended upon it. This is rich, this is love, this is God at work against evil. What better way to defeat the enemy! Now when we, as a nation, hear the words being sung... "God Bless America"..., we know that they are more than just words now. They are the heart of the country...the hope that we can survive, and the strength of the love to bring us together as a strong, powerful nation..."with liberty and justice for all!" I just saw the picture through e-mail this morning and I believe that you had no reason whatsoever to doctor, touch up, etc. the photograph. Although the photo image of the devil is startling to see, I cannot believe that there are disbelievers in evil or in the devil for that matter. Who else would have put such evil fanaticism in the minds and hearts of the terrorists? It is pretty basic, if you believe in good you have to believe in the evil. For me there is no fear, just reality. A tragic reality that tears you up inside when you think of all of the lives lost and the survivors and victim families that will never be the same. This is a time to forget the past, forget the questioning and doubting, just believe in the good, in God, regardless of your religion, pray for peace. Continue to "love thy neighbor". After all is said and done, that is all we have left, the love in our hearts. So my suggestion, which advice I am trully practicing, is make amends with one and all, resolve all those petty arguments with family, friends, co-workers, etc.. Overlook what may have really bothered you about people in general and those who "push your buttons". Be nice, polite, courteous, hold the door open for someone, and more importantly, SMILE. A smile goes a long way, it is an excellent instrument of peace that costs nothing but the gains are numerous. I truly hope that this is the message that people get from this tragedy and your photo. However, I saw many images from several different pictures taken from other different photographers. I believe these images from the smoke are a very symbolic concerning this tragic event. My husband and I saw an angel image and an old woman image, along with some very demonic images in the same bellowing smoke from another photo taken at a different angle of the smoke coming >from the towers. Well, I'm quite sure the devil was present in the hearts and minds of those people who committed this atrocious act against the American people. I am just as sure, however, that the spirit of the American people will not be crushed, if that was the intent of these maniacs when they committed this act. I first want to give my deepest condolences to everyone in New York who experienced this tragedy first hand. Living in New York, I'm sure you and many of your friends and family have been deeply touched by this whole incident! I can't get over the destruction we see on TV - we can't truly comprehend what you guys in New York are seeing and experiencing......My heart goes out to all you! As we here in Kansas get up in the mornings and drive through the countryside to our jobs, schools, etc., I keep seeing in my mind what was on my TV last Tuesday before I left for work - I arrived in shock at what I just saw! I just received a copy of your remarks regarding your photo. I, along with many others, believe the picture to be true. Anyone who could look at the photos from that tragic day would have to agree that Evil was truely present there with those terrorist. My sister in Denver is who told me about the pictures that were on a web sit over the weekend, but they're gone now. I have a copy of the picture you took, but do you have a copy of the one CNN supposedly released in color? I don't know how realistic the CNN one was - the figure looked to "perfect" - the one of yours definately looks unaltered. The picture has not been published anywhere, to my knowledge, here in Kansas. As a photographer, you captured on film that hell was awaiting those inhuman beings. Mark, My brother, deeply religious, lives in Florida. as soon as he saw the picture he recognized it immediately. The image is the same image that has been on a former bank building in Clearwater, Florida for the past several years. It is his belief that this image is that of The Blessed Mother, Mary, Mother of Jesus. He recognized the image immediately as that. I believe that is what the image may be of - and that your image is the correct one of her. That IS what you caught ON FILM. As for that being the image of the devil - he highly doubts that - no one has actually seen such an image - accruing to him - horns are the human depiction of what they can not fathom. HE BELIEVES THAT IF YOU LOOK CLOSELY ENOUGH, RATHER THAN BEEING THE DEVIL, YOU MAY ACTUALLY BE ABLE TO SEE JESUS. Let me know what you think. In viewing your picture it appears to me that there are two faces. One that is encompassed in the smoke but the most startling to me is the smaller more defined to the left of the image in the smoke. Dear Mark I just want you to know that you are not the only one capturing entities in their pictures. I have also captured them over the past 10 years. I think it is unfair for people to jump to conculsions regarding the image. We really don't know if it's a devil. It could well be that a huge doorway was opened by the lives lost and what was captured on film is something that we don't generally see until the moment of our own deaths. At any rate, it is not something we will be able to anaylize using scientific methods. There was a lot of energy there that can't be put under the microscope. Hope you're doing well.
