Tell us your story: I had just started a program for inmates just arriving at Nottoway Correctional Center, when word spread throughout the prison from inmates and staff that a plane had hit one of the twin towers. Unlike most, I knew right away that it had to a terrorist, remembering the 1993 bombing attempt of the Twin Towers. My first thought was of my wife and our unborn child, our first, about how thankfull I was that I knew she was safe. But however, my heart sank to think about all those who must have lost their lives on the plane and in the area that the plane must have struck. I went on with the program, only to learn at 10:00 am just how bad things had gone. This was the first time I could get to a television and see the coverage. The first tower had already fallen, the Pentagon had been hit, and I witnessed as many did live on TV the second tower fall. At that point, sorrow had just filled my heart in way that I had never felt before. From that point on, I knew that I would never be able to forget the events of this day. I WILL NEVER FORGET, and I know that as a country neither will AMERICA. God Bless America, and all those who lost their lives and love ones on September 11, 2001. Tell us your story: Unlike someone who either watched the news as it unfolded, or awoke on the West Coast and pieced together the news bit-by-bit, I received almost the whole news in the span of about 30 seconds. Though a student at Indiana University School of Music, I have more in common with a typical absent-minded professor. On that infamous day, I got confused about the starting time of my first class, which involved learning the trumpet. I had left home before 9:00 eastern time and arrived via public transportation early for my class, so I settled down for a little practice before classtime. I had no watch, but after a while I sensed that class should have started already. I stuck my head out the door and asked someone what time it was. Suddenly a professor came running down the hall very agitated because her computer was down and her radio was broken. She said something about hoping to find information in the library. I thought this was a little strange, but I was still very focused on practicing. I returned to the classroom. When my teacher arrived, she apologized for being late (as was the only other student attending) by saying, "It's been a strange morning." I said it had been the same for me (referring to my time confusion). She said, "It's unbelievable, isn't it." Neither I nor the other student (who had been in a 9:00 eastern-time class) knew what she was talking about. She then told us a plane had hit one of the WTC towers. We were both horrified and said, "What an awful accident!" She said, "Wait, there's more." She had seen the second plane hit live. As we were attempting to wrap our brains around that, she said, "There's still more," and told us about the Pentagon. Then she told us about the rumor of a bomb at the State Department, and of the several planes that were at that time still unaccounted for. My classmate and I were literally speechless. We couldn't form coherent sentences. We just babbled and stared at each other. None of us knew what to do other than to somehow keep moving. So we picked up our instruments and started to play. Concentration was almost impossible, but we plodded ahead, stopping occasionally for incoherent exclamations of shock. It was over an hour later before I had access to a campus computer to find more information. The first headline I saw said, "WTC Tower collapses." I stared at it trying to understand what that meant. The picture of it in mid-crumble did not make it more real. As I clicked on various stories and began to read, I kept going back to that picture to make sure I hadn't imagined or misunderstood it. As I read, the story of the other tower's collapse was posted. At first I thought it was another story about the first tower. It was all more than I could comprehend. I printed out several stories to take with me so that I could find a quiet place to try to read. Professors in the rest of my classes either gave us time to talk or cancelled classes compeletely, knowing our minds were elsewhere. By midafternoon I could no longer bear to keep my attention on anything other than the attacks. I went home and sat in front of the TV. That evening I worked as an aide to a naturalized American citizenf from Germany who has clear memories of being a child in Germany during WWII. I walked through her door and just dropped my backpack on the floor. I did not say hello--that somehow seemed trite. We just looked at each other. "What an awful day," I said. She agreed. I went through the motions of preparing her meal and caring for her, but I felt disconnected from my body and my surroundings. Netiher of us said much. As I prepared her for bed later that night, she began to talk. She said that it reminded her of the bombings of her town in WWII. She said that she couldn't bear to watch anymore. "I know what those rescue workers are experiencing", she said. "I remember what powdered buildings and dead bodies smell like. I didn't know I remembered the smell, but I can smell it as I lay here." (In the weeks ahead she began to have nightmares and found that she had never dealt with the trauma of the war.--"I just stuffed it away, like all the Germans did." Many times over the next year, she would talk about the war). That night I watched TV until my eyes wouldn't stay open. The next weeks were one long blur. I know I attended classes, but nearly every other waking moment was spent sitting cross-legged in front of the TV. I don't remember there being Halloween that fall, and I don't remember the change of the seasons. I would sit in front of the TV to watch the news and lose track of hours at a time. When I would become aware of myself and surroundings, I would find I was rocking back and forth with silent tears falling down my cheeks. I cried for those who died. I cried for those who survived. I cried for our national loss of innocence (or ignorance?). I cried because in order to protect me, soldiers were leaving their families and doing things that I myself did not have the courage to do. Though I no longer have as intense feelings today, I still mourn and still worry, and I still feel the ground of our country shifting under my feet. I didnt find out until i got home at 4pm. My younger brother told me, "Planes are crashing all over America!! The WTC towers have collapsed!" I thought, "nah, not the two towers. It must be a smaller, more insignificant building" I watched the news, and herad that thw WTC towers had collapsed, although they were showing pictures of when they were still standing. I was confused. I wasnt sure if they'd actually collapsed or not. I also heard about the Pentagon and Pennsylvania. Over the next hour, it all became more clear. I felt numb. I have never been to the US, and it was as if it was all pretend. I wanted to do something. I wished i could just be there in New York, helping people. I also had strange thoughts. "Could I have done anything??" It sounds so crazy, but i just wished i could have prevented it somehow. I wanted to turn back time, and somehow stop it all. I felt so helpless. In my fourteen years on this earth, i had never seen anything to bad. People jumping out of the WTC is something i'll never forget. I couldnt believe human beings would do that to other human beings. I would never ever wish that on anyone. Now, a year later, i still keep the edition of 'Newsweek' so that i can show my children. I will want them to realise that there is evil in the world, but also that there are an immense amount of caring people who will pull together in times of need. The things that happened during that time made me realise that my problems are so petty. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: On September 11, 2001 I was in AIT at Ft. Lee, Virginia. We had less than a week left before my class was to graaduate. The poeple within my class and I had been together through basic and now AIT. Most of my company was outside the post in a field excercise. I was left behind for medical reasons. We were in our bay when the post alarms went off. The whole post was completely shut down in less than five minutes. My classmates were still off-post in the field. We had no knowledge of the bombings for almost eight hours. The next day my company returned. the chaplain came to the company and a breifing was given to those whose family members were involved in the tradegy. It seemed like everyone grew closer; however that ended. I am Muslim and after another classmate of mine realized this things changed. Some people looked to me as a scapegoat for the events as if I planned it...the same people I was to suppose to be close to turned on me. A few people were not as optimistic and did not treat me any differently. Four days later we graduated and wwere flying out. Due to the current situation we were searched. I was searched twiced however. It was said to be a random checked but before I was pulled to the side for the search my name plate on my military luggage was pointed out. I am glad that America came together in its time of need. I just wish that the religious scapegoats were not made. The next morning I laid in bed and just didn't want to get up but I said I need to get up and from the night before I left the channel on that I was watching friends on which was KTLA out of L.A. Satellite tv you know. I remember putting on the TV and The World Trade Center was on fire. I yelled an expletive that I won't use here but I remember calling a friend of mine in Boston and she was freaking out and she said it was highjacked airliners. I asked her who was her confirmation source as we both work in media and she gave me a good source, actually 2 of them. I remember she put me on hold and I woke up about 5 minutes after the second plane. So when WABC in New York replayed the video and I dropped the video and screamed. She came back to me and getting a call out was so difficult. Were sorry all circuits are busy. That voice rings in my head to this day and when I hear it does bring me back to the morning. I call my Boss at the time and go are you watching this? He says what and I told him and he went into action as did I. I got to work and like all Hell was breaking loose already and for me it was a horror and a day I never want to endure again. But I remember I got back home as I live across the street from work and now I know what they mean by home field advantage. I remember getting into the shower and Listening to Howard Stern to monitor New York as his local station picked up the live broadcast and I remember he was recapping and I am rushing and I am cut from shaving. I mean good cuts from not paying attention. I get out and wanted to see how the internationl media was covering this so I put on the BBC and see the Pentagon was hit and thought we will die today as we are heading for nuclear war. I truly thought the worst and so I get dressed and ready and see FOX tv in L.A. was up becase Fox tv in NYC was down off the satellite. 6:59 AM PST/9:59 AM EST-It goes down the 2 World Trade if that is wrong I am greatly sorry. I remember I froze and suddenly it felt like when I was suicidal again. I heard nothing. I felt nothing. Like I remember then sun being out and I remember snapping out of it. I knew I had a job to do. I get to work my boss all non essential staff out and we just kept going and going and going. Running back and forth and just seeing the horrific events of the day. Later that day 7 world trade goes down which by the way I am so glad is up. I think it speaks volumes to what we all can do. 7PM PST/10PM EST MY Boss orders me home as I just put in the longest 13 hours of what became a 72 hour marathon. I slept maybe 2 hours within those 3 days and that Thursday, wrestling on tv was my personal refuge. That saturday I collapsed and just slept for the entire weekend. I was ordered to bed and my boss made sure I was well fed. I to this day never stopped caring and I have whats called survivors guilt and I also feel like a piece of me died that day as well but know as long as I am walking this planet, I will do whatever I can to preserve the memorey of all of those because your passing will not be in vein. I thought it must be an advertisement for a movie. There was no way this was real. Then, I realized it was real. My eyes welled up with tears. I screamed out to my sister to get in the living room. I was at work, Green Run Elementary, I was standing in the hallway waiting for my first grade class to show up. The first grade teacher and the English as a Second Language teacher asked me if I had heard what happened, I said no and they proceeded to tell me that a plane, suspected of being terrorist, had flown into the World Trade Center Tower. I was so socked I reached out and grabbed one of the teacher's arm. At that time I had to take my take first grade class in for their lesson and I had to put it behind me. After the class left I turned on the TV and watched the second plane crashing into the second tower. ~Has your life changed because of September 11, 2001? if so, tell us how. For some reason I didn't listen to the radio or the television while I was getting ready. I got into my car and whatever radio station I had had on was reporting that planes had struck the Pentago and the World Trade Center. I thought it was some kind of horrible accident. It took me a long time realize that it was a planned attack. I think many other people figured it out before I did. I called my mother and told her what had happened. I arrived at work in shock, not sure what to make of eveything. I work as an admissions representative for a local two year college and I travel to a different high school every day. Fortunately, on this day, I was relatively close to home, in Monroeville, only about 15 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh. The teacher asked me if I knew what had happened. I said that I did, even though I didn't really understand any of it. I began my presentation, trying to focus on that and not the horrors I had heard of. During my presentation, there was a lot of commotion in the halls and the teachers wee coming in and removing students. It was very disconcerting and I kept wishing that someone would tell me what was happening. I later found out that Flight 93 had just crashed in Somerset County, a little over an hour from Pittsburgh. Parents were coming and taking their kids home. I quicky wound up my presentation, as no one wanted to hear about future career options in the midst of all this and I didn't want to be talking about it. The teacher told the remaining kids about Flight 93; having a plane go down so close to Pittsburgh was scary. My dad grew up in Derry, PA, only about 20 minutes from Shanksville. It hit very close to home for me. I was notified that they were closing all the bridges and tunnels around the city so I took a back way home. When I returned home. I hugged my mom and my daughter. I tried to shield my four year old from all of the images, but she ended up seeing them anyway. Later that evening, she drew apicture of a builiding falling down. That upset me greatly. As the day wore on, I began to feel helpless. I have several friends in New York City(not to mention my daughter's father) and had been trying to call them but couldn't get through. EVentually, I decided to do something constructive and I went to donate blood. The wait at the blood bank was two and half hours. They told this to everyone that came in and the most amazing thing happened: Everyone said okay and sat down. No one left because of the long wait. People from all different walks of life were there, wanting to do their part. I was so proud to be an American and felt so close to all of those strangers. When I returned home, I put out our flag with a mixture of great pride and sadness. I said countless prayers for the victims and their families. That flag has not come down once in a year. I appreciate the honor it is to be free and to enjoy the liberties that we have. The flag has great meaning to me now, as well as the national anthem and other patriotic songs. May we never forget those brave heroes who perished on that day and may we never take for granted what a wonderful country this is. God Bless the USA. Tell us your story: When the first plane hit the World Trade Center, I was in 1st hour Photography taking pictures of wildlife outside near the softball fields. I wouldn't know for another two hours what had happened. 2nd hour AP Spanish came and I can remember laughing and watching a Spanish video and having a good time. Meanwhile the second plane hit the WTC and the third into the Pentagon. After 2nd hour I walked down to the bathroom like I did most days and proceeded to one of the urinals. Stephen, a boy in my grade whom I'd known for a long time stepped up to the urinal next to me. He began to talk which is bad urinal ettiquete and said, "Did you hear about the Pentagon and the World Trade Center?" I responded, "No, what?" "They've been attacked! Bombed or something!" Instantly, I knew we had just become a country at war. I was terrified of what the ramifications of this news could be. I ran upstairs to where my friends gathered between classes and told them of the events. We were all confused. 3rd hour was beginning and we rushed to choir. We entered the room, turned on the TV, grabbed chairs and just sat down. Nothing else mattered. I sat there thankful to be in the company of my best friends, watching the terrible images on the TV. The principal told our teachers to do whatever they wanted to do for the rest of the day, and most teachers did. 4th hour my chemistry teacher refused to let us watch the news because it would interupt our Chem Lab. We couldn't watch the news 5th hour either because of a math test. 6th hour, my British Brit Lit teacher couldn't understand what this meant to Americans. After school I drove myself to the downtown theatre where I had been cast in a play. I was working with professional actors, most of them from New York City. They were terrified. Their friends were all back in the City and they had no way of contacting them. I felt priveleged to be with people who were so connected with the locations of the attacks. The cast took a dinner break and sat at an outside restaurant. The streets were deserted. The only others out were the police patroling the streets. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I was living in Auburn, Alabama with my friend Leigh Barnett and Josh Scott at Lakeside Apartments. I woke around 8:00 - 8:30 a.m. and was getting ready for school (Southern Union). My mom called my cellphone and told me to turn on the television. I turned to the local news channel and was horrified at what I saw. An airplane has struck one of the twin towers. I went and woke Josh Scott and told him to get up and see what was going on. My other roommate was at work at Auburn Flowers and Gifts. I called her and told her and she said she was fixing to come home so that she could watch the television. I had to be at class around 10:00 a.m. After watching, the second plane hit the second of the twin towers and then the collapse of the towers, I left for school. On the way to school, I turned on the radio and on EVERY station there were reports on the attacks. It was horrible, I was devastated. I pulled up to school and there were several students socializing in the parking lot. I parked and was walking towards the building and they started yelling that the schools had been canceled and Thursday classes would also be canceled. We would resume class on the following Tuesday. I stopped at Wal-Mart on my way home and bought some bottled water and batteries and an American flag. I went home and began watching television again. Called my mother several times to check on the status of her well being. Then, took Josh to community service. After lunch, I went up to the flower shop, which is where I worked also, and made a big red, white and blue bow for our door at the apartment. Whenever Leigh got off work, we cooked dinner for several friends, Jody, Holly, Bradley and Tommy and then watched the news together. Picked Josh up around 8 or 9 p.m. Then, I went up to the Exxon to get gas before the gas prices rose, they were already completely out of 87 octane and I waited approximately 30 minutes to get gas. It was a mess and it was raining!! Got back home and our company left and then we all went to bed. At first it seemed as if it was like any other day. When I remember the Spetember 11th attack,I had so many feelings, and so many people around me reacted differently. Some were the same, but others were in concern. What can I say about that day? I went into my second period class, which was social studies with Mr. A. I remember going to my regular seat and looking up at the television.I didn't understand at first. When he had explained what had really happened, my eyes were just getting filled with tears just like now while i'm writing this. I will never forget that day. I felt so bad inside. Practically screaming at the top of my lungs for help and no one can hear me.Knowing that from so far away there's nothing I can do. All I can do is pray. So that's what I did. I made myself go to work and while sitting at my desk, I received a phone call from a friend telling me that a plane had hit the World Trade Center. I went to the front office to check the TV and they were showing the footage of the second plane hitting the second tower. It was unbelievable and so very scary. At this time my heart sank even farther in my body. What was already a sad day for me, was now one of the saddest for our nation. My father was a veteran of World War II and a very proud American. I was raised to believe if you didn't vote you could not express your opinions. The flag was flown constantly at our house. On my lunch hour, I went to the cemetary and sat with Dad and relayed to him everything that was going on in New York and Pennsylvania. I know he could hear me, and I felt so much better just being able to talk to him about the events, and once again remind him that I love and miss him. Aber ich dachte angesichts der Reaktionen von einigen Bundesbr?dern und Freunden in Deutschland, dass Euch vielleicht einige pers?nliche Aspekte und Bemerkungen zu den Geschehnissen interessieren, nachdem wir uns hier etwas von dem ersten Schock erholt haben und langsam sehen, welche Gr?ssenordnung und fatale Bedeutung die Ereignisse und Erkenntnisse der letzten Tage f?r unsere Zukunft und die Weltgeschichte haben. Als Wahlamerikaner seit 22 Jahren ? immer noch mit deutschem Pass ? habe ich wie viele Menschen hier in dieser furchtbaren Woche aus allen Teilen der Welt Anrufe und e-mails von Freunden, Verwandten, Kollegen und Klienten bekommen, die entweder wussten, dass meine Tochter in Manhattan arbeitet, oder die nur ihr Entsetzen, ihr Mitgef?hl und ihre spontane Solidarit?t bekunden wollten. Zugleich ist es unglaublich, wieviele Bekannte, Nachbarn und Gesch?ftsfreunde hier im fernen Texas direkt von den Ereignissen an der amerikanischen Ostk?ste betroffen sind, weil sie Freunde oder Verwandte haben, die bei den Terroristenangriffen umkamen, verletzt wurden oder um Haaresbreite entkommen sind. F?r mich waren die zweieinhalb Stunden am Morgen des vorigen Dienstags, w?hrend wir verzweifelt auf Nachrichten von meiner Tochter warteten, die wohl die schwersten in meinem Leben. Nun sind wir aber, um das vorauszuschicken, eine gl?ckliche Familie im Gegensatz zu so vielen anderen in diesem und vielen anderen L?ndern der Welt. Unsere 28j?hrige Isabel arbeitet bei der Commerzbank in New York Manhattan als Assistant Treasurer, und zwar im Hochhaus des World Financial Center 2, drekt neben dem World Trade Center. Da es jetzt mit seinen ca. 60 Stockwerken das zweith?chste der verbliebenen Geb?ude ist, sieht man es auf den Fernsehbildern deutlich direkt an der Wasserfront. Sie war kurz vorher in ihrem B?ro im 34. Stock angekommen, als sie die erste Explosion h?rte. Vom Fenster sah sie direkt gegen?ber die Flammen aus dem Nordturm des WTC schlagen und Menschen aus den Fenstern fliegen. ?ber Cellular Telefon erfuhren sie und ihre Kollegen, dass es ein Flugzeug war und wahrscheinlich ein Terroristenanschlag. Kurz danach sah sie sah dann das zweite Flugzeug genau auf ihrer H?he auf sich zurasen, und es sah so aus als ob es ihren Geb?udekomplex direkt treffen w?rde. Ohne den Einschlag abzuwarten, rannte sie zur Treppe. Sie kam schnell die ersten 20 Stockwerke herunter, weil nur wenige Leute wirklich gesehen hatten was passierte. Weiter unten wurde es dann aber sehr voll, und sie landete erst nach knapp 30 Minuten auf der Strasse, wo viele Leute standen und auf die brennenden Geb?ude starrten, was sie ziemlich ?stupid? fand. Sie rannte ?ber den angrenzenden Battery Park zur U-Bahn Station und erwischte ? wie sich hinterher herausstelte ? den letzten Zug aus dem Desastergebiet. Aber bereits nach wenigen Stationen machte der Zug eine Vollbremsung und blieb im stockfinsteren Tunnel stehen, da die Elektrizit?t und damit alle Signalanlagen ausfielen, als das der erste WTC Turm kollabierte. Erst nach mehr als einer Stunde fuhr der Zug wieder an und erreichte die n?chsten Station. Unter den Passagieren brach bemerkenswerterweise keine Panik aus, obgleich die meisten erst langsam von den in Manhattan Zugestiegenen erfuhren was passiert war. Erst als Isabel schliesslich zu Fuss und Taxi ihr Appartment erreichte und mich anrief, erfuhr sie von mir, dass inzwischen die WTC Geb?ude zusammengebrochen waren ..... wenige Minuten, nachdem sie die angrenzende Strasse ?berquert hatte. Wir sind stolz und unheimlich gl?cklich, dass sie so klug und schnell reagiert hat und wir mit einem gewaltigen Schrecken aus dieser Katastrophe davongekommen sind. Nun noch ein paar politische Bemerkungen, die mir in diesen Tagen so einfallen, wenn ich die Kommentare von Freunden in Deutschland und Europa h?re und sehe bzw. die dortige Presse am Internet lese. Es wundert es mich immer mehr, dass selbst welterfahrene Leute bei Euch einen so negativen Eindruck von George W. Bush und der amerikanischen F?hrung haben. Die deutsche Presse hat sich von Anfang an ?ber ihn lustig gemacht ohne jegliche sachlichen Gr?nde, ebenso wie damals ueber Ronald Reagan, der dann mehr f?r die Europas ?berleben und die deutsche Wiedervereinigung getan hat als alle deutschen Politiker zusammen. Ich kenne George W. bisher nur fl?chtig, habe aber verschiedene Bekannte hier in Houston, deren Urteil ich vertraue, die ihn sehr lange und gut kennen und fuer einen ungew?hnlich f?higen, hochanst?ndigen und enorm effizienten Mann halten. Bush war immerhin acht Jahre Gouverneur von Texas (Nr. 12 im Weltrang der Volkswirtschaften) und vorher erfolgreicher Unternehmer sowie intensiv als Insider und f?hrender Berater an den Wahlk?mpfen und der Regierungsf?hrung seines von mir hochverehrten Vaters beteiligt. Damit hat er sicher sehr viel mehr qualifizierte F?hrungserfahrung als Leute wie Schr?der (Ministerpr?sident meines im Vergleich dazu l?cherlichen Heimatlandes Niedersachsen), Chirac (B?rgermeister von Paris), Blair (hauptberuflicher Parlamentsabgeordneter) usw, alle fast ohne jegliche praktische Lebenserfahrung. Wir sch?tzen uns gl?cklich hier, dass Bush glaubw?rdig und ?usserst besonnen ist, und er hat mit Sicherheit das erfahrendste Team von Kabinetsmitgliedern und Beratern von allen westlichen Staaten. Sein Vize Cheney und sein Aussenminister Powell verglichen mit Herrn Ex-Hippie Fischer, Verteidigungsminister Rumsfeld verglichen mit dem l?cherlichen Volksschullehrer Scharping, Leute mit einer enormen Erfahrung nicht nur als Politiker, sondern fast alle auch in Top Positionen in der Industrie, was ganz wenige europ?ische und kaum ein f?hrender deutscher Politiker von sich sagen k?nnen. Was will man eigentlich noch, um diesen Leuten zuzutrauen, dass sie wissen, was sie tun. Nur weil sie sehr amerikanisch und ?berwiegend konservativ sind, - und ich stimme vielen ihren diesbez?glichen Positionen keineswegs zu - kann man ihnen doch ihre ?berragenden F?higkeiten und Erfahrungen nicht absprechen. Das Gleiche gilt f?r die f?hrenden K?pfe im Senat und Repr?sentantenhaus. Wenn man da z.B. das besch?mende, wochenlange Gerangel um den Einsatz von 500 (!) Bundeswehrsoldaten in Mazedonien im Deutschen Bundestag sah, kann man nur staunen, dass in Deutschland nicht erkannt wird, mit welcher Effizienz und Aufrichtigkeit amerikanische Politiker jeglicher Coleur sich im Ernstfall einig sind und zur Tat schreiten. Wenn man im Moment insbesondere die deutsche Presse und pers?nliche Kommentare verfolgt, bin ich mir nicht sicher, dass man sich bei Euch dar?ber im klaren ist, dass wir alle in einem Boot sitzen und dasselbe morgen in Europa passieren kann und - da bin ich leider sicher - wird. Mein Vater ist im Krieg gefallen, zu meinen Kindheitserinnerungen geh?rt die Evakuierung aus dem brennenden Berlin, ich war Offizier der Bundeswehr und habe in den 28 Jahren, die ich im Ausland lebend und als professioneller Weltreisender verbracht habe, einiges von der weiten Welt kennengelernt, und habe daher starke pers?nliche Gef?hle f?r diese Dinge. Ich bin vollkommen gegen S?belrasseln, voreilige Drohungen und un?berlegte Gewaltmassnahmen. Wenn man jetzt aber die Wut und Verzweifelung der Amerikaner sieht und vor allen, wenn man wirklich Respekt vor der Demokratie hat, muss man den Menschen hier zugestehen, dass sie legitimer Weise von ihren F?hrern erwarten, jetzt drastische Massnahmen zu ergreifen, auch wenn das zu einem jahrelangen Weltkonflikt f?hren wird, der nach dem Willen der Terroristen angezettelt wurde. Die Europ?er sollten froh und dankbar sein, wenn dieses reiche und zu Recht stolze Land alle seine Mittel und F?higkeiten, einschliesslich der seines Pr?sidenten, daf?r einsetzt. Es ist ?berw?ltigend zu sehen, welche Geschlossenheit und resolute Opferbereitschaft sich hier schlagartig in der Bev?lkerung ausgebreitet haben, und man kann sich, wenn man hier lebt, der Stimmung nicht entziehen, auch bei k?hlster Betrachtungsweise und sehr pers?nlichen Erinnerungen an den Krieg. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I saw the first tower crumble to the ground of the South bound lanes of the New Jersey Turnpike. I will never forget the sea of cars the just stopped in the middle of the road as we all watched in horror. People just stood on the turnpike watching - it was eerie. As my work insisted that I come in - I got to watch things from a different angle as my office faced the World Trade Center. The smoke was billowing and alarms were sounding and watching that hidous smoke rise that was when I knew our world had changed. I hope that everyone effected finds the solace they need. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: On the day of September 11, 2001 I was wearing my favorite purple dress. Like any other day I was at school, it seemed like a good day. I was unusually on time and I looked really cute that day. I went to my first period class and things went fine, little did I know what was really going on in the world. The bell rang for me to go to my next class. As I was walking down the hall I saw my best friend with a panicked look on her face. She told me that two planes had flown into the World Trade Center buildings. At first I didn't believe her. Then I saw more people who were talking about it as I headed to my next class. Luckily my next class was government so he was letting us watch the news on T.V. For me it seemed like everything was in slow motion. As we were watching they were showing tapes of the second plane crashing into the second building. To me it still didn't seem real. At the end of that class I was able to go home because I had early release. As I went to sign out at the attendance office I saw they needed help. The phones were ringing and kids were trying to call their parents. So I decided that I would stay and help. I stayed for about two hours and then when home. On my way home it was so quite outside. Hardly any cars were on the road. I stopped by my house to check on my pets and they I headed to my sisters house were the rest of my family was. Their everyone was glued to the television with a look of terror on their faces. It still didn't seem real to me, everything was still in slow motion. I am one of those people that if I didn't see it, it didn't happen. So we watched the news all night and all day the next day wondering what was going to happen next. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: Geographically, I live approximately 200 miles from NYC and yet I was personally affected by these tragedies. The Whitney Point Rescue Squad was one of the volunteer departments that went to NYC to offer their services to give relief to the rescue workers that worked around the clock in the days that followed the tragedies. As a Pastor I was called upon to offer a prayer and blessing to the men and women that volunteered to go. When I arrived at the fire station, I felt compelled to offer the men and women the option to be anointed with oil as I offered a blessing on each one. They all accepted and I was moved by the emotions that were displayed as I moved from one person to the next. We can never discount the possibility that God will use us to fulfill His purposes. Having felt that I was too distant to offer help, God opened a door for me to touch a few lives that would be in a position to touch so many others.
