Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I clearly remember when I first became aware of what was occurring in NY that morning. It was during our morning recess, when the buzz went through the staffroom. One of our grade 8 classes began their day with an internet update of the world events. This group watched much of the mornings events unfold online. By lunchtime, we had an emergency staff meeting to inform us of the specifics of the events and the school board's directives regarding how we should share this information with our students. I was a first year teacher, in the classroom for only one week, and now I was being asked to tell my class of 7 and 8 year olds that the world had changed that morning. As I began to share the factual information of the morning, many of my students expressed a variety of responses. As our discussion continued, they expressed fear that the CN tower might be the next building targeted. I spent the rest of the day reassuring them that they were safe, while inside I was full of fear. I couldn't let them know all that I had pieced together, I couldn't politicize the events, I could only state the cold hard facts. As soon as school was dismissed, I logged onto the internet to see for myself. I was horrified as I watched the videos of the impacts. There was a knot in my stomach that wouldn't go away. Over the next few days, there were numerous discussions in our classroom. The children wanted to know why? Why had this happened to innocent people who simply went to work that morning as any other? Why would anyone choose to die for this purpose? I found that I had no answers. It was the most helpless feeling. I was their teacher, I was supposed to know. I guess that none of us will ever understand. As we approach the anniversary of this awful day, my hope is that our rememberance and recognition of the loss of this day and the global events since, does not reopen my students fears. With one more year of teaching under my belt, I feel no more prepared to answer thier questions than I did one year ago. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I had just gotten to work and begun to settle into my morning when a co-worker told me that a plane had crashed into the WTC. I was shocked, but the impact had not fully hit me yet. A few minutes later, I heard about the 2nd plane. Every person on my floor crowded into a small office and sat glued to a tiny television set for the next four hours. I just kept thinking, "The WTC is gone! NYC is changed forever, everything is changed forever." I felt nauseas at the thought of all the people on those planes. I spent the morning trying to contact my family, especially my father and tell him not to go to work. Rumors were spreading like wildfire and I was afraid. I felt as if at any moment my own building was going to be hit. I tried to contact my boyfriend who works near the FAA tower in Leesburg, which I had heard was destroyed. I just wanted to be sure everyone I knew was safe. I was numb, it didn't feel real. I went home early in the afternoon and met up with friends and we talked about it all night long. The next day it all hit me. I was watching TV and the mother of one of the victims of the plane that crashed in PA was talking about her son, and how proud she was of him and how lucky she was to be able to share that with the whole country. Her strength touched me so much, I started crying and crying and did not stop for hours. I pulled myself together and drove to class. Listening on the radio to everybody's thoughts, seeing people on the road... knowing that we all had felt the impact of this horrible tragedy. I felt a bond with these strangers like I never thought possible. For days I cried... and I was very afraid. I remember thinking just how fragile our lives are, and that the safe bubble in which we live can be penetrated at any moment. I learned many life lessons, in a one very harsh way: Cherish what you have. Be grateful for the little things. Always show you care. I'll never be the same, and I'm sure nobody will. I am so lucky to be where I am in life: I'm able to get a education, I experience true love every day, I have a supportive family, and loyal friends, a roof over my head and food in my belly. She also told us that they were only telling the 6th graders of what happened so we shouldn't talk about it in the hallways. I am gardening early before the September heat builds. My hands caked with terra firma. I remember the telephone?s persistence. The erratic answering machine is again... not picking up. One more time I remind myself to replace it. ? Piece of junk? I am muttering , as I head to the house. Two minutes ago I was making my small world more beautiful with exotic tropical plants. The lushness of Key West is incredible and fragrant. Bright, saturated hues glimmer through my white picket fence, a perfect paradise, far away from any urban jungle. Now I am running for the phone. The damp smell of mother Earth increases as I bring my hand closer to my ear. The voice on the other end is firm and unbending. The frankness of his tone wipes the smile off my face. ?TURN ON THE TELEVISION!? shouts my good friend ?What Channel?? I ask wincing. ?IT DOESN'T MATTER, JUST TURN IT ON!? Mud and all, I reach for the power button. Peter Jennings is facing me larger than life. His serious brown eyes tell a thousand stories, his lips only one... terror from above, maybe an accident. Then I see the plume of smoke from the North Tower of the World Trade Center, a giant gaping hole where flames from the very bowels of Hell seem to be licking the sky. I am still holding the phone. My other hand leaves a dark brown print on my mouth and the sides of my face. I am standing in my living room watching a surrealistic moment in history. Breathless. The second plane sneaks around and hits from behind. The whole world sees it live on television. I recall my friends there are possibly trapped inside. I remember my brother is in another Manhattan skyscraper. I hang up on my friend and call my brother Jon. Futile. Phones are jammed, cell lines don?t work. Now I feel the breath and the heartbeat of a Nation?s panic. Then the Pentagon appears. Hell?s fury has found it?s way there too. I stood there dumbfounded with mud on my face for most of the morning. At any other given moment an earthen hand print cartoon like might have been funny. I look, the way America feels, standing, staring, eyes filled with tears with mud on my face. Loss of life is unimaginable. Our impregnable armor pierced with silent ease. The United States never had to look over it?s shoulder...until now. I found my brother thank God, but that afternoon I lost four of my friends. People that I played spin the bottle with as a nerdy teenager, gone forever. Even one of my parent?s friends decided to end his life by jumping instead of burning. What a choice to make. We have all been touched, we all have mud on our faces. I heard great tales of heroism, performed by ordinary people that day. If it had not been for the actions of those plane passengers we would be mourning one more symbol of American freedom; the White House. What a choice to make, be killed by plunging into another iconic structure, or fight for the preservation of the American spirit and risk the consequences. Cell phones ringing form the air reach the ground, just to say ?goodbye? and ?I love you?, ?remember me but remember that you must live life, and that you are free?. That plane too, would be taken by those flames; those demonic flames. Fear of flying, driving, living, dying, Americans are afraid to open their mailboxes, let alone travel. The emotional impact of the 11th is great , the economic impact is even greater. The stock market spasms to all time lows. People cancel their vacations. Global tourism halts. Worried looks on the faces of Duval street waitresses sober me. They have nothing to do except worry. Harold Wheeler director of the Monroe County Tourist Development Council tells me that people are not afraid to fly today as they were a year ago, the economy however, has just soured. Hotels are dropping their rates to make up for head counts, causing bed taxes to go down, affecting advertising. Because of room rate deals, occupancy numbers equal last year, yet the quality of tourist dollar has changed, they are not spending. We depend on tourist spending. The economy is cyclical, it will come back... we hope. I too realize my own earning power eventually will steady. I still have one more spiritual task, I must go home to New York. This is why I travel with the Schooner America summering in Newport Rhode Island. She is making the journey south to New York Harbor for the September 11 remembrances. I want to say goodbye to my friends who died and to remember that life goes on sometimes with pomp and circumstance. I want to see all those ships in the harbor honor the dead and to let the rest of the world know that freedom still rings loud and clear, even if the bells are a bit cracked. When I was little I used to lie on the bow of my grandfather?s boat and look up at the stars in the prussian blue sky. Together we would pick out the constellations. Looking up at the same prussian blue sky on the deck of ?America ?I wonder what Orion?s belt would look like if there were two stars missing. Now I begin to wonder what New York will look like with two of her stars missing. In the hall the teachers were talking really queitly and worried to eachother but I didn't pay much attention. When the teacher came in and told us that a plane had crashed into the Trade Center building in New York, I thought it was some kind of weird game to show us what it would be like if we had lived during some big event like Pearl harbor or something. How history is more than just dates and names, but how it really affects people who live then. In retrospect that made no sense, because it was a study hall and why would she want to teach us something about history? But I kept waiting for the "just kidding" that never came. Everyone was quiet and weird after, but wasn't until they told us over the intercom that the pentagon had been attacked that I really got it. It wasn't a game, or even an accident; we'd been ATTACKED. The rest of the day we tried to talk our various teachers into letting us watch or listen to the news, and most agreed. I still remember how queit we all were in English while the old radio the teacher had brought in crackled with static and people called in to the station to rant about how we "ought to nuke the whole middle east." It scared me almost as much as the attacks themselves, hearing people talk like that and knowing that there was a war coming. When I got home I went right to the tv and watched the news until my parents got home, and then we went out to eat because no one felt like cooking. It was surreal; there were huge lines of cars at all the gas stations because people thought the oil was going to get cut off or something, and at the restaurant total strangers would talk to us about it because everyone was thinking about the same thing. After dinner when we got back home, I went right back to watching the news. It was pretty much the same thing over and over, except when they showed a bunch of people--government officials and representatives I think, I don't remember very well anymore--all standing together and crying and singing "God Bless America." That image sticks out in my mind the most out of everything that happened that day. I didn't know the lyrics back then, but I tried to sing along anyway. It was dark and they were outside, with the world seemingly crumbling around them--around us--and it felt more like a prayer than a song. That song still makes me cry, sometimes. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I had just gotten back to Boca Raton on Monday Sept. 10 from working an event in Clearwater Beach. I was going to leave Boca Raton on Tuesday morning to drive back to my home in Naples, Florida. Tuesday morning I was fast asleep when I heard my buddy David whom I was staying with come in the door screaming, I immediately got up to find out why he was screaming a plane hit the World Trade Center. David was hysterical and I was confused, we went downstairs to find the TV on and a picture of the WTC smoking from the top of the building. The news anchor was saying that a commercial jet liner had slammed into the WTC. As we watched in disbelief, a second plane hit the other tower, it was surreal, we couldn't believe what we were seeing. I remember changing the channel to see if maybe it wasn't real, but each channel was showing the same thing. At that point the media started to speculate it was a terrorist attack by Osama bin Laden's group. I remember watching that TV for the next 6 or 7 hours, I couldn't move. I tried to call my family overseas, but the phones were jammed. Finally my Mother got through and assured me that she and my Dad were ok, but told me to stay put, not to travel anywhere. My college roommate is a United States Marshall in Manhattan, so immediately I tried to call him to make sure he was safe, but I could only get his voicemail. He was safe, about 5 blocks away from Ground Zero when the attacks happened. I remember talking to him a day or two later and he told me that he had over 150 voicemails from concerned family and friends. The rest of the day I remember watching the coverage and hearing about the plane hitting the Pentagon and the plane that crashed in PA. Here in Florida, the roads were closed, the airports were closed and even Disney closed. I remember the feeling of desperation of not knowing what was happening. I was afraid that, that day was going to mark the beginning of WW3. That night, President Bush addressed the nation and declared war on the terrorists that had perpetrated the attacks. Being the son of an Air Force Officer, I felt a great deal of patriotism from the way America reacted to the events of September 11, 2001. I am proud to be an American!! Tell us your story: I was in my bedroom sleeping and waiting for my cleaning lady to arrive at 8:30 a.m. When she came in crying, and said, I was just talking with my husband,Robin on the cell phone,who works on Spring st in the city. She said, Put the television on,Marie, Robin said, an airplane hit the WTC buildings. She was surprised, I didn't have the television on like I uselessly did when she arrived every morning. We were both in shock, when we put the television on and saw the building on fire. When,we saw the second,building get hit, we burst into tears, crying, O my GOD !! She was very upset, and I try to calm her down. She is from Guyana,age 21, in this country,only one year. A newlywed, She said, Robin cousin works in the WTC, on the 102 floor,in the cafteria. I'm sorry, Marie, but, I must leave and get down to Spring street where my husband is. She ran, out of my apartment, crying and heistally. I'II call you when I get to Robin. She almost made it to Spring st,when all subway services was halted. She had to walk about ten blocks to Spring st,she didn't know her way there,she ask people on the street for help. I had just started watching when the second plane hit. I just started shakeing and I told my mother that wasn't an accident. I was scared. Scared for those people in the towers and the planes. And feeling deep sorrow for their families. I prayed that they were not alone. The only thing I could think of was getting my brother on the phone. At a time when you feel that the world is basicaly falling apart around you, you want and need your family. Even a year later I still find it very hard to see or hear anything to do with 9-11. It touchs me deep in the soul for the policeman, fireman, and other rescue workers there that fateful day. I pray for those we lost and for those who lost someone that day. But I do not fear that they were alone. The same person that held me up when I saw those planes hit and held the hand of our heros loved ones, is the same person that led his flock home. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: My dad was taking me to work, I don't remember why. He arrived early, I was still in bed. He can't work my TV so he got me up, he was nearly hysterical. As I got the TV running, the second plane hit the second tower behind Katie Couric and it went down. Couric did not even know it had happened. I went to work, I am the secretary at an independent insurance claims adjustment firm and other people's problems continue. The owner showed up. None of the adjuster's came to work. One didn't show for 6 working days. No claimants called until late that afternoon. Those calls were rational and to the point, not a normal type of call. Calls often run on forever, are illogical, or rush over minor issues or issues that can't be rushed such as drying the water. It was 3 days before I received a rush call, that lady needed her car to get to work. Calls picked up and became more rambling, rushed or pointless over time. I did not receive an angry call for no reason at all until July, 2002. This includes a team working the Rodeo-Cibeque fire in Northern Arizona. It was the end of first block when the first plans hit the trade center. I knew something was wrong when we had spent 30 minutes too long in the class and they would not let up leave. I was in the main gym and they called over the intercom system that there have been attacks on the world trades center and the pentogon. This sent most into a panic becase they did not say how bad the pentogon was hit and many parents of students worked at the pentogon. After the anouncement they let us go to our next class but many left early fearing there could be more attacks. There was alot of people crying becase they were afraid a loved one could be in danger. My life was directly effected by the attack on the pentogon. I lost a neighbor who lived only two houses away. We stared to worry about him when he did not come home that night but we figured he stayed to help those in the reckage because that was the kind of guy he was. After a few days we heared that he was declared missing. His body is one of 5 from the pentogon who was never found. these attacks dont compare to anything elese in history. some compare it to pearl harbor but this was much worse the people at pearl harbor in the armed forces and could somewhat defend themselves. The attacks on 9/11 were on innocent people, mothers, fathers, children, friends and family. I was INside of wal*mart building a cake display for our line of hostess cakes. about 9 am, the pepsi man comes in and says, someone just drove a 747 jet plane in the side of the world trade center. Hopefully this will be useful or interesting to someone. I didn't lose a loved one. I had a friend who had a close call. The first part below is her story. Instead of going home to New Jersey, she stayed at Battery Park City (next door to the WTC) at a friend's house because she was going to see me that day. She called me as I was going out the door to ask if we were still meeting later, and, had I seen the news? She said it was on tv but she had just heard and seen a plane go right overhead into the Trade Center. She nervously discussed with me whether she should leave and get a bus. I told her I didn't think there would be busses but to get out of there, pick a direction and just get away from it. She said she was going to walk towards the river. I said no no! Thinking she'd be trapped there. It turned out exactly the right way for her to go. She called me back, still in the building about 5 minutes later saying they had been told now to evacuate. I didn't hear from her again that day and I was sure by the timing of the phone calls that she'd been out in the street at the time the first tower went down. I reasoned she only had my place left as a place to go for the night (since no one was leaving Manhattan) and when she didn't show up I was very worried. (no phone service in Manhattan) I was able to reach upstate New York by phone and Boston could call in to me (on my land line) I reached my friend's husband by phone (finally) the next day. She was home! She told me I wouldn't have wanted to see what was happening in the street at the base of Number One. She said she joined a group who was running and they were in the midst of everything coming down on them. She watched a woman with a baby carriage running with everyone and later saw the carriage empty. She hoped that had meant the woman picked up the baby to continue running. Their particular crowd ran until trapped against a high wall. But two men in the crowd broke a restaurant window and took out chairs that they piled up to the wall and helped everyone over. Just as they all got over and fell onto grass on the other side, the black cloud came. She said everything went dark and she couldn't breath. She said finally she pulled her shirt up over her face and her mouth was full of dust. In the dark she fumbled in her purse and put her ID into her pants pocket so her children would know what happened to her. But she said, then, the air cleared, especially because they were West of the wind blowing the smoke. Everyone in the now grey grass got up and bolted for the river. It just happened a fire boat was coming by. There was nothing else there but water. She said the group started jumping over the wall into the boat. She said people were hurting themselves in the jump, but she jumped in also. She was afraid the firemen would make them get back out but instead it immediately hauled them across to New Jersey. She said she waited many hours and then she had trouble breathing so she was taken to a hospital. They took all her clothes and gave her new ones and had her scrub thoroughly. Earlier, I stayed on the upper east side, I went outside and saw throngs of people silently marching up Third Avenue, (in the East 80s) having left their mid town and down town jobs. I was still at the stage where this all felt like a virtual reality movie. There was zero traffic (that only occurs on Third Avenue on its noise street fair day) The people in this procession were saying very little. So it was an eerily quiet march, all to the north, broken by the sound of fighter jets going over. This parade went on until about 2 PM. In the meantime I went to a grocery store (I, like many in NY keep no actual food in the tiny kitchen. We eat out. Why we got food? I did to squirrel it away if we got stuck in Manhattan. I suppose we thought this would be a long siege.) The customers in the store had already half emptied all the shelves. It was a very quiet and understated panic. People were polite and patient, even in their desire to stock up for "a year", it seemed. Also the lines for the check out were taking up to an hour and 45 minutes, so everyone standing there decided to shop even more as they stood next to the shelves. Huge baskets were winding all the way through the market. One woman I actually knew was hussled to the front of the line because she had left 2 small children in her apartment upstairs, having come down for some quick basic supplies. Finally, the store procured from who-knows-where some of the best check out people I've ever seen. I wondered if they were trained for emergency check out, maybe Reserves?, because they ran the cash registers faster than any I'd ever seen. Finally after 2.5 hours I was out of there. Then, that night, what did everyone do? Instead of cooking all that in apartments, everyone went to the restaurants. They were packed. Every outdoor caf? was seating to the brim. The weather, as you recall, was beautiful. Again, it was a different sort of experience, because there was still no traffic on First and Second Avenue. And people were kind and speaking to strangers and gathering a little. People in the law office where I work lost colleagues and family members. Some lost people on the planes. I went to work Wednesday, because I could easily walk the mile or so. There still was no public transportation. People were making every effort to keep things going as usual, but it was more like a Saturday, with very few people at work, as was the case in the city as a whole. That day and the next there were many bomb threats and various scares. And a kind of glumness. On Thursday around noon, I looked down from high windows in the office and saw a throng heading up Third Avenue (again?). Apparently Grand Central had had a scare. That was the state of things for a while. Our offices, like many mid-town businesses, immediately opened conference rooms and extra spaces to temporarily provide offices for those misplaced. For really only a very short time we had these filled with some of the lucky folks. I was impressed with how quickly new permanent places were found or provided. I was also impressed with how the court system dealt with having to be closed. Letters were sent by e-mail amending statutes of limitation and with updates on how to work with court opening delays. Smooth as possible. Many brought in, or printed off line images and sentiments of the WTC all posted, and we all had better, brigher label ribbons every day it seemed. Then the pins with the flags. That lasted quite a while. A couple months. To calm the daily dread, I finally made my own survival packs which I still have. One for my car. One for the office, etc. After I made them I felt like a weight lifted off of me. It was an action, I suppose. Something so few of us could figure out to do. Later, our office supplied small survival packs to every person. Over all of this was our view of the the huge cloud of smoke to the south, as everyone could see on TV. Eventually I made my way by subway down to pay my respects, two weeks late, early, before work. I felt compelled to be there. The people going to their jobs down there (that I saw), almost to the person, walked along avoiding looking in the direction of the disaster. There were few smiles. And I was glad I went. It helped take away the virtual movie feeling because there it was, undeniably. The now famous fa?ade was lit by gold sunrise that day. The site was the embodiment of some huge wrath. Since I lived in the dormitory, I just walked over to the classroom. By the time the first attack hit, I was still in class. After class, I went to bed for a nap, setting the alarm for 10:15. When I woke up after the nap, I got my rollerblades and books together to go to an off-campus class. To this point, I did not turn on the tv or radio. I got to the bottom floor of the building, and went into the college bookstore. The BookStore radio had Howard Stern on and they were going to a live report that the Trade Center was hit. I said aloud and thought that it was a cleverly disguised hoax, since I just studied "The War Of The Worlds" hoax in one of my classes. I purchased a sports drink and started to skate toward the off-campus class. There was no panic in the streets that I noticed, and I had to dodge the usual cars. I arrived at 10:55, took off my skates and went inside. I waited in the lobby, and the secretary said "Did you hear what happened?" I said "You're listening to Howard Stern, aren't you?" "No..I'm listening to KQV" First thought was, "Oh my God..it isn't a hoax!" A sign was then posted saying "Class Cancelled. Return to Campus for Further Instructions." I stayed there about half an hour to make sure the other classmates heard about it. Tim, my classmate, rolled up on a scooter, and I said "Class has been canned. Have you heard what happened?" "Yeah. They say there's a plane in Pittsburgh too." I thought again, "Oh my God" and took off quickly for the campus. This time there was more of a sense of panic and confusion in the street. And at every stop, I asked someone, "Hey, can you turn up your radio? What is the latest news?" and other phrases. I don't remember even taking my skates off when I got back. I went to the dorm room and immediately tried to call my mom and dad. It took me a while to get through. When I did, they said they were just closing the store and I went online to try and contact other family members and other friends. I was very frightened, crying, and I wanted to go home. I was then told that if we wanted to get out of the city, I could go home with one of the professors. I decided to stay in the city, and I just remember being glued to the computer, updating news sites, watching news channels, I just stayed up all night long watching the news. The next time I slept was about 3:00 in the morning. I even remember what outfit I wore because it was brand new and I was so excited to wear it school that day. I was eleven years old and in sixth grade at Poe Middle School. Everything started out a normal day. But by my second class, a lot of people were getting picked up early from school and everyine was so confused because we had no idea what was going on. None of the teachers were telling anyone anything. I knew something had to be up right before lunch because I was supposed to go to uncle's house after school but I got called down to the main office where they said my mom had called and wanted me to come straight home at the end of the day. When I asked the woman in the main office if my mom gave a reason, she just said, "Well there has been some accidents in New York and that may have something to do with it." Now I was more confused than ever because when she said "accidents," the first thing that popped in my head was car accidents and I was so confused as to what car accidents in New York had to do with me and why it was important. When I got home from school that day, still not knowing anything about what had happened, I noticed my mom's car in the driveway which was strange because normally she wasn'y home from work until around five. She opened the door when she saw me coming up the porch and I noticed her face looked kind of red, like she'd been crying. I barely asked, "What's going on?" before she led me in the house and to the TV, which was repeating for the millionth time that day what had happened. I was in complete shock. Now, five years later, I can't say my life has been seriously affected by what happened that day. But there have been some changes. Ever since I've been a lot more interested in the news and national and international affairs. I've been a lot more politically inclined as well. But one of the most noticeable changes is security. Now when I go into DC, there are security checks before entering museums, creating long lines. And just this past summer, when I was visiting my grandmother in Florida, at the airport I had to take off my shoes, necklace, watch, bracelets, and before I could go through the metal detector. However, one thing I stand strong to about September 11 is this: it should not keep people from living their lives to the fullest. It should not be an excuse from the government to take away American's liberties. And it should not be exploited by the media. Of course, all these things have happened anyway, and THAT is what I find the saddest. I heard a co-worker say that one of the World Trade Buildings had been hit by a plane. I was in total disbelief. I immediately thought about my sister Letty who works for the NYNJ Port Authority in the North Tower on the 71st floor. I tried calling her work number. I do not know why but I did. I prayed to God that Emily my niece, who had just started school had made her late for work. Emily was having a hard time adjusting to school. I recall someone turning on the television, and everyone ran over to see what was being broadcasted. I continued to call my sister's work and home number. I could not work nor function. I remember looking at the t.v., and some stated that a second airplane had struck the south tower. I felt so numb. Our manager instructed us to go home. I remember walking to my vehicle and tunning in to a radio station to hear the news. As I drove home I recall getting choked up not knowing if my sister was as work. I remember hearing a song by Jeff Majors titled Psalm 23. That song gave me hope and strength to go on. I finally pulled into my driveway, I went upstairs and turned on my television. I remember as if it were yesterday, the buildings collapsed, and I feel to my knees in tears thinking the worst had happened to Letty. I cried so much. I continued to call NY in hopes that I could make contact with someone to find out about Letty but I had no luck. My husband arrived home with the boys. He went to the school and picked them up, not knowing where the next attacks might strike. I was glued to the t.v., as were millions of people. My husband continued to reassure me that Letty was fine, but I had to speak to her in order to know that she was safe. Finally around 7:30 p.m., I was able to reach her home number. Anthony answered the phone and I asked him was Letty fine. He said yes, I recall tears running down my face, and when I heard her voice, I was so overwhelmed with joy and sadness at the same time. She cryed and told me her horrific experience. Thank God, Emily made mommy late for work. My sister had dropped Emily off at school and realized that she had forgotten her lunch bag, so she went home to get the lunch bag, take it to Emily's school, and then she caught the ferry over to work. As she arrived she was headed towards her job, when all of a sudden she saw one airplane in the north tower and the other one was coming. She recalls some gentleman grabbing her hand and running for dear life, she said it was dark, and debris falling all over. Letty is an asthmatic, so she was trying to the best she could. She said she lost her shoes in the run for her life, and received a few cuts and bruises. She was taken to a decontamination area, luckily her boss was there and hugged her and was happy to see her. Unfortunately, my sister had the emergency contact list at home and her manager asked her if she would call the names on the list to see if family members had heard from their love ones. I am one of the lucky ones who still has my best friend and sister with me today. My sympathy goes out to all those people who were not as fortunate as I am. When Letty hears a plane now she panics and has horrible visions of that day. The tragedy will forever be with her. Hopefully within time she will try to deal with this tragedy the best way possible.
