I was teaching a group of innocent children (sound familiar) when our principal came in and told me to turn the TV on that the World Trade had just been hit by a plane. In disbelief I turned the TV on only to discover that it was all true. The school that I was teaching in on that day is for Dyslexic, ADD & ADHD children and our children come from all over the United States. At the time we had 1 student who was from New York and his father worked as a boat Captain (unsure where). What I witnessed on TV was sooooo unreal and disbelieving (even today its still hard to believe) that someone could be so cruel and full of hate that they would kill thousands of people just to "get even". That day we did not teach any more classes, we sat glued to the TV's and prayed for everyone in New York and for their families. The horror, the stories, the pain, all of this was way to much for our country, but over the past 5 years America is growing stronger. We will never forget the past and the actions that others have taken on our Country, but we have proved that we will not back down and that we will fight for our FREEDOM!!!! I got into work and I say everyone around out command center, where all the televisions were located. I was training a class and I just remember turning on the television in the training room in enough time to see the second tower fall to the ground. My whole class was in shock. I remember trying to call my best friend that lives in NYC and all the lines were busy. I went home that night and picked my kids up. We went to Walgreens to get medical supplies and dropped them off at the local radio station to go to anyone in NYC. We went home afterwards and prayed that all would not be lost. I was currently working on identifying certain "FMS Cases" and collecting pertient information and entering the information that I found into a Unix database, that could be used at a later date by the attorneys in the building to build a case against Iran/Iraq. Plus I was listening to what was happening to the "Twin Towers" in New York City. Then through an in-house e-mail system, one of the attorney's that had an office on the outside facing the "Pentagon," sent an e-mail notifying everyone in the building that the "Pentagon" was just hit by something. So I looked out a window to see what he was talking about. All I saw was a lot of Grey, Black, and White smoke coming out of the far right side of the "Pentagon." I was supposes to go over there (Pentagon) to meet some friends for an early lunch, but a little voice inside me told me not to go over there, cause something is not right. So I decided to call my friends, but I never have the chance to make that call. Then we were told by one of the main Attorneys in charge to leave the building and wait for further instructions from your bosses on whether or not to return to work the next day. Then I called (cell phone)my wife on the way to metro Station, to tell her to turn the TV on and see what's happening in New York and Washington, DC, then all of sudden my phone went DEAD, all she told me was all she heard was sirens blaring in the backgound and could bearly hear what I was trying to tell her. What is usually a 30 minute ride on the metro (Foggy Bottom - Van Dorn Metro)took over 1 1/2 hrs. that day. Because the Metro was "shut down" from Rosslyn to Crystal City, and the only way it (Metro) was going was to Faifax and away from Washington, DC. So I was buses from the Rosslyn Metro to Braddock Rd. Station. All of the metro cars were cramped pack with people trying to get home and check on if any of thier family memebers were alive or hurt in New York or the Pentagon. Plus some of the passengers were very upset, frustrated, cause some of thier friends worked at the "Pentagon or the Twin Towers." By the time I got home it was 1330 hrs and I had several messages on my answering machine. So I had to listen to all of the messages and then I had to answer all of them and that took me 2-3 hours to answer them all. Cause the phone line were so jammed up with everyone else trying to call each other. Later that night my wife wanted to see how bad the "Pentagon" was hit, so we drove up I-395, so she could see how bad it was hit. By the time we with the 14th Street Bridge exit, the traffic suddenly came to a skreaching halt, all we could see was a caravan of black SUVs and Police cars driving towards the "Pentagon." So we decided to turn around and go back home. As we were passing the "Pentagon" my wife and others drivers on I-395 had the opportunity to see the Firefighters and other rescuers lower the "American Flag" over the side of the "Pentagon" (was found in the rubble in one of the offices). From that day (9/11/01) on I will take it "1" day at a time (living), if you know what I mean. Because you can walk out the door of your place and suddenly die. I was in the habit of listening to the morning news on the television as I began the daily chores. I had just stepped out of the shower a little after 9:00am that morning. The news was still playing in the background, however I wasn?t paying much attention to it. I was nervous that day. Tuesday, September 11th, 2001 was my first day attending a new college. I had just moved to Chicago a few months before, and the big-city-living in a small apartment was still new to me. I remember passing by the TV at some point and seeing Katie Couric reporting about the World Trade Center being hit by a plane. It didn?t even cross my mind that it was an act of terror. I thought a horrible accident had happened, that someone had flown too close to the tower, or something went wrong with the plane. I continued to get dressed, only listening to the television. When I heard that a second plane hit the towers, a distinct wave of realization, mixed with fear, mixed with desperation pulsed through me (no adjectives can really put it into words). I knew our nation was under attack. I also knew we were in a vulnerable position and not prepared to fight back. One of my largest fears had always been seeing a war take place in our country during my lifetime. I felt a tremendous urge to speak to my husband (who was working in a Chicago sky-rise). I tried calling his office. Busy signal. I tried the building?s 800 number, also busy. The phone lines were tied up (I was hoping). I got on-line and tried to e-mail him. No response. I finally got through to him on his alpha pager. He did not know about the attack yet. His department was not allowed to watch the television or leave the building, in fact he was about step into a meeting! I kept him updated via the pager. The Pentagon was hit. We both agreed that I should not leave the apartment. I phoned my school, which is less than 10 blocks from the Sears Tower. They warned me that my attendance would not be excused and they were not going to close the school until there was some kind of military intervention. Well, I thought that my life was a little more important than missing one day of school, so I notified them that I would not be in class that afternoon. Needless to say, they called me at 11:30am to notify me that Mayor Daly had closed the school and that I would not have to come to class. Darn bureaucrats. My Mother called me in a frenzy. She couldn?t get through to me when I was on-line (this was before I got the cable modem). She was planning an escape route out of the city for me?northbound out of Chicago, through Wisconsin, and to my parent?s house in Northern Michigan. The only problem was trying to explain to her that public transportation wouldn?t be able to get me that far. Poor woman. Bless her heart, she still lights candles and prays daily. I stood in my apartment, holding my cat, looking into the sky. The silence was a static eerieness. I have never heard the city so quiet. There was not a plane in the zenith where so many fly over hourly to land at O?hare. I was amazed at how quickly air traffic had stopped. And the el. Did they stop that too? It was so quiet. I looked out the back window and down the alley. I could hear the voices of men working on the electricity lines. Did they know what was happening? I looked out the front window. People were jogging leisurely with headphones on. Did they know yet? I wanted to run out and tell all of these people, but I was afraid. I kept thinking that Chicago was going to be next. I didn?t know what to expect. I envisioned men running down the street with guns, bombs, grenades. I didn?t want to die without my husband. It killed me to be separated. I went to the television again. There were already so many people separated and dead. I broke down and cried ? for them, for me, for our country. Tell us your story: On the morning of September 11, 2001 i was getting ready for school like any other normal day. my first and second classes were going good as usual, until i got in my third hour class (lierature) and the teacher (Mrs. Lindemann) put on the television, and there it was, a tragedy, the first trade center was falling down. We (me and my classmates) were in shock! who could have done such a thing!?!? For the rest of that day i could'nt concentrate on any of my work. I was thinking... "i am so lucky to be alive." but everyday after 9/11/01 i got better and better... but still thinking i am lucky that there wasn't anything that happened to MY school. I have family members who were at the Pentagon and near the World Trade Center that day, and I was thankful to learn that they were unharmed. I also have relatives in Gander and Nova Scotia who helped to take care of my fellow citizens when our planes had to land in Canada that day, and I was very proud of their opening up their hearts and homes to these people. My mother, who was born and raised in Canada, would have been proud also. I have so many memories of that day--which changed my life. I am proud of President Bush's heart and strength and courage and faith and hope--and leadership--following the attacks on his--our--country. Mayor Guiliani did an admirable job leading the people of NYC through the tragedy. The firemen and the policemen and the citizens of NYC and the Pentagon and elsewhere who gave their lives to ensure life and liberty for family members, friends, and strangers are--forevermore--my heroes. This includes Todd Beamer and Mark Bingham and Tom Burnett and Jeremy Glick and Lou Nacke and the others on flight 93 who fought evil that day and died--but won. After the September 11 tragedy, I worked in Atlantic City, NJ, with other FAA and other employees and volunteers to hire large numbers of Federal air marshals to help protect our skies--the defining and proudest moment of my career; but it was not enough. I--we--owe so much more to our brothers and sisters who perished and to those who carry on--who live to help us and protect us. "Let's roll"? You bet. We still have a lot to do. My brother-in-law called me and told me to turn on the T.V, and that was right after the first plane hit the World Trade Center. I was shocked and frightened, and saddened. Has your life changed because of September 11, 2001? If so, tell us how. I don't think that my life has really changed, except that I feel that America is more vulnerable, I guess more vulnerable than I ever thought possible. And I am more conscious of the fragility and cry more easily. What do you think should be remember about September 11th? We should remember all thoes who lost their lives, and their families and friends. We should remember to always pull together as Americans, no matter what our backgrounds, as we did on that day. I woke up @7:30am central time, I turned on the television to see an airplane crashing into a buliding. at first I though my husband must have been watching a movie last night and left it on a movie channel. Then to my dismay another plane crashed I though what am I watching then the newsbroad caster came on and started saying terroists America is under fire, more planes are hitting more targets. I just strted to sob. realizing this wasnt a movie this was really happening. I then called my parents to tell them what was going on for they had no clue and were in their car going on vacation. It was a cold day outside we were sat watching TV and a news flash came on to say what had happened. i could not beleive it I was in shock it was like something out of a film. I was shocked and deeply upset I looked at my baby and thought what sort of world are you coming into. I was so sad and gutted for the victims and there families. My mom had her T.V. on, half listening as usual to the weather, traffic reports, and other news stories. As I was drinking my coffee and finishing getting ready, I heard her gasp in the other room. "The world trade center was hit by a plane!" I ran into her room, only to see smoke billowing out of the first tower. "How did that happen Mom?" I asked, still confused as to how a pilot could make such a mistake. My mother had no answer, and as we stood there starring at the T.V., we actually saw the second plane hit the other tower. "Oh my God," we both said in unison. My mom said that a radio tower had to be down at the airport for such a mistake to be made. I knew better. My cousin Kelly is a flight attendent for American Airlines, and she always flies the route from Boston to New York. They point out the twin towers to the passengers on the plane. They are perfectly visable from a plane, and it was a perfectly clear day on September 11th. It was evident that this was done on purpose by some kind of madmen. My mom and I were worried about my cousin. Was she flying? Did she take that route? Was she on that plane? These questions raced through our minds as we drove to work in silence. Nothing could calm us down. As we pulled into our office parking lot, the third plane hit the pentagon. Now we were both in tears. Our morning at work consisted of trying to get ahold of our family. My Uncle finally called me back, my cousin flew over the twin towers fifteen minutes before the first plane hit. Their flight was grounded in New York, and Kelly was going to rent a car with the rest of the flight crew and drive back to Chicago. Nobody I knew was harmed in during the events of September 11th. Unfortunately, it is not over. Several of my friends that were enlisted in the Army, Marines, and Airforce are now on active duty and that terrifies me. That day really made me think about how quickly things can change. I'm twenty-one years old, but I know absolutely nothing of war, of innocent victims, and of terrorism. This event made me realize that even though America is a strong and wonderful country, we are not exempt from these senseless acts of violence that can change a nation forever. I was briefly sitting at my desk the morning of September 11 when a phone call came through for me from one of the parents I had been working with quite a bit in helping her children. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I wake up tired on Tuesday morning. I?m in the seventh month of my pregnancy and it?s hard to sleep. Dreams, baby pressing on bladder, baby pressing on lungs. I crunch my bowl of shredded wheat in front of the television and try to decide whether or not to go to work or stay home. I watch the Today Show, I listen halfheartedly to the fall fashion advice, or whatever. Then a news break-in: a shaky view of the twin towers, smoke pouring from a small hole in the side, near the top. A plane has crashed into the building, they announce. Unbelievable. I watch for the details, then go to wake my husband. He does not believe me. I pull him from bed to the living room to see it for himself. Suddenly feeling awake, I have an idea. What if we went down to the Promenade to take some photos? I was going to go to work late, anyway. And how often does the chance come along to see something like this? My husband dresses quickly and sits in front of the news, loading film into his camera and calling out details to me. The plane is a commercial airliner. No one knows why it crashed, how it flew off course. Just as I finish dressing he shouts: another plane has hit the second tower! Static fills the screen. Now we know that this was no accident. We rush around the corner to Eastern Parkway, straining for a view of the towers, but our sight is obstructed still. People on the street; some of them know, and others still walk unaware. We debate the chances of catching the subway and decide to get the bus instead. The bus riders know. They crane for a look as we round the circle onto Flatbush Avenue, but still, one cannot see a thing. A woman stands to give me a seat and now I have a view of backs and heads. We can surmise now that it is an act of terror. The bus is silent as we lumber slowly down the crowded avenue towards downtown. Soon, we are traveling so slowly, that it would be faster to walk, so we climb from the bus and walk as quickly as my body allows towards the Promenade. All of the downtown Brooklyn buildings have been evacuated and there are crowds filling the streets. It is a beautiful day; there is truly not a cloud in the sky. People are happy to have the day off work and some are smiling and joking, oblivious as to why they have been asked to return home. We are a few blocks from the Promenade when my husband decides we should head for the Brooklyn Bridge instead. He thinks we could walk all the way into Manhattan and perhaps get a closer look at what?s going on downtown. Having never crossed the bridge in this direction, I don?t know where the pedestrian walk begins. My stomach feels tight and I am out of breath. I don?t want to go downtown. It feels too dangerous to me and I tell my husband this. His eyes flash anger and he pulls a passerby aside to ask her the way to the walk. She eyes my belly and points in the general direction of the bridge. ?Keep walking this way, but I wouldn?t do it in her condition. It?s not safe.? I tell my husband that he can go if he likes, but I?m only going as far as the Promenade. He begins to protest when a man rounds the corner in front of us in tears, yelling, ?The building fell down! The whole building just fell down!? I think to myself, what a nasty joke to play. Eyes follow him down the street as he runs away, sobbing. We can see it from a block away. Or rather we cannot see it: the whole of downtown Manhattan is consumed by black smoke. People stand on the brick walk overlooking the city with dropped jaws. Some are stunned into silence and some are crying. Hands are affixed over open mouths and still more hands cover eyes and clench hair and cradle heads. As the smoke rises, we see the hole where the building once stood. We see, but we still don?t believe. We struggle to believe that it has happened. We collectively ask ourselves, is this some nightmare? Will we wake up to the awful sound of the alarm soon and turn to our partners and tell them of the horror we?ve just dreamed? My husband begins to take photos in the clearing smoke. He is still snapping them when the windows explode from the second tower. At first I think, confetti! The glass is catching the sunlight and sparkling like some beautiful parade. It takes me several seconds that feel like forever to realize that the other tower is collapsing on itself. A cry goes up around us as the second punch to the gut is delivered. As the last twinkling bits disappear, the blackness returns and envelops the island. The water turns black. We think, the apocalypse must be like this. We think that maybe this is it. My eyes are dry although there are men and women weeping openly all around me. But then people begin to talk and I overhear the man next to me telling someone else that there are more buildings that have been hit. That the Pentagon was one of them. Was my father working there today? Did he have a meeting scheduled there today by some chance? I will call him, the chance is slim, but I will call him just to make sure. I realize that in our haste to leave the apartment, I have forgotten to bring my phone. I put my head down on my arms and the tears come now for some reason. I think of the people I know in the towers, and then I think of all the hundreds of people I don?t know. The weight of the thousands of deaths presses heavily on me. My husband puts an arm around me but I cannot look at him yet. I whisper to him that my father works at the Pentagon some days. A man next to me hears this and I hear him repeat the information into his phone, ?There?s a pregnant lady next to me whose dad works at the pentagon.? It?s only then that I touch my belly and remember. I watch the dark cloud lift into the sky, leaving behind a smoking hole. It is snowing, I think, as ash floats to us across the river. Papers soar like birds through the air to Brooklyn. Someone tells me that it is dangerous for me to be breathing in the air in my condition. It is true, but what can I do? It?s all around us, raining down finely. We sit for a while, listening to people around us talk. Someone has a police scanner and we hear the voice of a lone fireman in the building, calling over and over for help. We decide to leave. We want to stay, but I need a bathroom. My husband approaches a man standing outside a doorway and asks if we can come in to use the restroom. The man is friendly and he directs us through the front door, through the lobby, and to the bathrooms. After I finish, I wash the ash from my eyes. We have to walk home. Flatbush Avenue is closed to traffic and all of the buses are filled, anyway. We make the slow procession up the avenue and are joined by people covered in ash, in blood. Some are missing shoes. Some are walking alone and so nonchalantly it is as if they are simply coming home from work at the end of the day. Bottles of water are handed out from delis and churches. We have to stop a lot because my belly is tightening in painless but uncomfortable cramps. Before long, we don?t even notice the smell in the air. When we get home, the light is flashing on the machine. Amongst the calls are some from my father. I hear his voice, he is asking me if I?m alright, he is asking, ?Was today the day you had a meeting downtown?? He is alright. The phone lines are crowded and I don?t reach him until later in the day. There are tears in his voice, I can hear that he is crying with relief. I try not to cry, but it proves impossible. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: The staff television was on in the lobby of the secretary's office at my church. I had arrived early, and two or three of us were watching the television while we waited for the other ladies to arrive. When the news flash was shown, I thought that a very tragic accident had occured, but when I saw the second plane flying directly into the second building, I knew that we were under attack. We dropped to our knees and began to pray. We asked God all the questions that came to our mind; "Who? Why? What next?" and of course, we were praying for the occupants of those buildings. There was no question for us that the people in the planes had been immediately killed. The Ladies Bible Study turned into a prayer meeting around that television. Our pastor and the other staff memebers joined us. We did open our Bible's to read Scripture as someone recalled specific passages that came to mind. In our minds and hearts, there was no doubt that God was there, and that He knew that this would occur even before it entered into the minds of the evil ones who committed the act. We could not begin to understand His purpose in allowing it to happen, but in faith we confessed, "God, we know that You are Sovereign; Your ways and thoughts are not ours, and they are beyond our understanding. We do know though, that You love us; You proved that by sacrificing Your Only Son for us: we know that Your plans and thoughts for us are only good, and not evil, and that You can and will bring good out of all this awfulness. Thank You for Your presence with those who are enduring such pain and grief, and with us who share their grief. Make us truly to know and do Your will in this hour." Now, a year later, I have seen much good come from this. God has said that "If My people, who are called by My Name, will humble themselves and pray, and confess their sins, and turn from their wicked way, then I will hear from Heaven, and I will answer their prayers and heal their land." (from my memory and not exact, but certainly close enough!) I have seen Christians renew their faith and courage, in the face of a moral and legal system that has gone beserk and forsaken the "old ways" of our nation's founding, that had left us by and large helpless and hopeless. Unbelievers, on 9-ll and since, have cried out to God, acknowledging Him as at least present, and perhaps in charge of the affairs of man. Personally, my beliefs as a Christian have become more consolidated and reaffirmed. I know without doubt that God is Sovereign and does rule over the affairs of man. I trust His love for us to be excellent, as evidenced by His sacrifice of His only Son, and I trust Him to be faithful to His Word and His promises. I am more determined than ever to be obedient to His directions. I believe that "the people who are call by His Name" are responsible for the condition of our land and are accountable to Him for it. I beleve that 9-ll certainly was a "wake-up" call for us to repent. I believe that the safety and welfare of our country rests directly on believers, their prayers and their dependence on God. I know that there should not be a day that passes that we should not pray for our nation's leaders, especially for our President, for wisdom and guidance from God to make right decisions, that will allow us to live in peace, and that will bring an open and peaceful society around the world. Only in a peaceful setting can we do the work He has given us to do. One year later, my prayer is this: "Heavenly Father, thank You for hearing our prayer and conducting our affairs. Forgive me individually for my sins; forgive our nation for forsaking Your way. Bring comfort to all those innocently bereaved because of this judgement on Your people. I especially pray for President George W. Bush today, for Your Presence in a mighty way in His heart. Be his strong right arm. Guide his advisors and our lawmakers in the right way. Bring us back into the "old way." Be our nation's only God and Savior. Protect us from the evil one. May Your people truly be "salt and light" in the midst of an idolatrous and wicked and perverse generation. We are assured of Your hearing and Your blessings only because of Jesus, in Whose blessed and beautiful Name we ask this. Amen!" Tell us your story: I am the assistant manager of a home for mentally handicapped adults.They were all at work and I was in the residence with a fellow co-worker. We were watching Good Day NY when the first plane hit. My co- worker and I was in shock. We were wondering how such an "accident" could occur. Minutes later, we saw the second plane hit and we screamed.I remember the reporter on the news screaming also. This was not an instant replay. It was all live and there was such an overwhelming feeling of shock. At that point, we knew for a fact that this was not an accident. My co-worker had to go and pick up all the patients from work. He had a hard time and it took him forever because everything was shut down. I felt as if it was the end of the world.When I saw the buildings collapsing right before my eyes I immediately started crying. I had an overwhelming feeling of fear and sadness. When I heard of the other crashes, I felt so helpless.My sister called me crying because she was stuck in Manhattan and she was scared because she works a few stops away from the World Trade Center. It took her hours, but she finally made it home.I was glued to the T.V. all day even though I was at work. A few days later, my mother was hospitalized and she became very disoriented. There were times that she didn't even know who I was. She would call me by her sister's name(She's deceased).There were times when she would jump out of the bed and she would say that she has to help save the patients. By the way, she happens to work at that same hospital ( VA Hospital in Manhattan). After being analyzed by the psychiatrist, he said that she was experiencing some post traumatic grief from September 11th. She could not watch t.v. because everything on the t.v. had to do with 9/11. She was hospitalized for about two weeks. She regained herself and now it's as if the temporary disorientation never happened. When she was able to talk about it, she expressed how scared she was, especially since she works in a Federal Building in Manhattan. I guess we all felt that we didn't know where the terrorists were going to strike next. That's the scary part of it and we still don't know. We were shocked that such an accident could happen and many began praying for the victims and families. In what seemed like only an instant later he came back into the office to inform us that a second plane had crashed into the WTC. In that moment I knew we were under terrorist attack. First there was fear which was soon replaced by anger. I rushed into work to check the flight schedule of our employees to discover that one of my closest friends at the office was on a plane to California (he arrived safely to Dallas) Then I heard the news of the plane hitting Pentagon, I was devistated, I have many friends in Wash DC that I met through my work. Near Easter in 1998 I had a beautiful, radiant, angelic-like being visit me. My aunt Leota was in awe when I told her about this heartthrobbing event. She too, about the same time, had a special experience. We may have been the same angel. She took a picture of a cross in the sky near Easter. Then, when her pictures were developed, she had an angelic-like being in one of them. I shared this special picture with others, and someone saw a baby angel engulfed in the arms of the larger figure angel. I honestly believe this was my dear mother and her three day old baby brother, both now with our Lord. My mothers faith was so strong! She knew her King James bible well, it was deep in her heart and her witness to others of his soon return. Another aunt, Lura recently passed and she shared that she saw bright purple flowers and angels singing the Rose of Sharon in heaven. I believe God left me this special message to hang onto! My dear mother worked for the Charleston City Police and she wore her beautiful silver badge so proudly. She touched lives! They even came back to the jail to thank her for helping them, the women inmates and the juveniles. My second angelic experience occurred recently while at Virginia Beach, VA when I found an angel in the sand, while searching for my niece, Alexis and my nephew, JR some seashells. Rough experiences have entered my life since 911, some specifically related to 911 including threats to my life, but Jesus Christ watches over me. He is my strength and my salvation. I have grown so close to him, even before 911. Two nights before the tragedy, I rededicated my life to Jesus Christ while watching Dr. Billy Graham during a crusade on television. I sat and watched 911 and I feel so close to the hurting families. My dad fell from a firestone building before I was born and he suffered fractures to his brain. My dear mother said he was never the same, they didn't even think that she should take him home from the hospital and try to care for him, but she loved him and she tried to hold the marriage together, she was so caring! I praise God for both the good and bad times of my life, I am now so close to him. I was filled with the holy spirit in Huntington, West Virginia during Pastor Parsley's service. He came and prayed with an elderly gentlemen and I knew it was real. I felt his holy power and I asked him to then fill me with it. While I will never be a perfect person, I will always strive to be better, we all need to do this, Jesus died for us so we can have life eternal. To the mommies of the 63 babies, your heavenly father watches over you and your babies and I know your lives will never be the same until you see your loved ones. It was only the second week of school, and I was on my way to French class. My teacher, who had to commute between the middle school and the high school, came in with a look of utter sadness on her face. The first thing she said to us was, "I'm sure you all have heard by now...." We had no idea what she was talking about. We had been in class all morning and this was shocking to us. She did not no much of what was going on but she did tell us that a plane had crashed into one of the Twin Towers and that there were terrorist threats in other parts of NYC and Washington, DC. Being only 40 minutes away from NYC this was extremely scary for us. That day teachers were told not to turn on the TV, in fear that one of our students might have had a father or mother who worked in the Twin Towers. One girl, who I know, did have a father who worked there. Luckily, that morning his alarm did not go off and he stayed home. The whole day parents were coming into school and picking up their kids. We still had no idea what to expect when we got home. We did, however, hear the roar of fighter jets flying over our school the entire day. When I got home i walked in the door to find my sister, who was a 10th grader at the time, and my mom sitting in the kitchen glued to the TV with tears running down there face. I was going to ask what happened, but once I saw the TV, there was no need for explaining. I never thought any of this could happen, especially to the USA. The next day in school it was unlike something I'd ever seen. For the first time ever, it was silent. In the hallways, in the lunch room, at recess, and in gym. No one knew what to say or do. We had a moment of silence that morning and played the national anthem over the P/A. Teachers and students started to cry, still in shock from the previous days events. It has been over two years now and it kills me to see that our country no longer has that unity and pride that we had that fateful day. We need to remember what is important in life, because one day, without any notice, it can be gone. One thing that I hate after this horrible event, is when people from other states(outside the tri-state area) go to New York and say things like "I didnt get to see anything at ground-zero" or "I hope i can go see ground zero." From someone who lives in the area I would just like to say to those people, if that is what you are going to New York to see, then stay home. It is a grave, a tomb, not a tourist attraction. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: The morning of September 11, 2001, I was still asleep when the planes hit the World Trade Center in New York. My husband, a firefighter returning home from his shift, woke me with the terrible news that a plane had crashed into one of the buildings. Immediately, we went to our family room where we sat together watching the smoke coming from the towers. We then learned that a second plane had flown into the second tower. As the events unfolded, I remember praying... praying for the souls of those who were losing their lives, for their families, and for the rescue workers running in to save them. We watched together, as other Americans did, as the first tower crumbled to the ground. I asked him "What's happening"? And then we cried. I put my arms around my husband knowing that there were wives of the FDNY firefighters that would never again be able to hug their husbands. My heart goes out to each and every one. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: The Impact of 9-11 On September 11 of 2001 something horrible happened that changed our country forever. It was a day of mixed feelings for many people all across the world. It was a day of sadness, anger, and shock. Many people have lost family and friends on this day. On this date, terrorists attacked the Pentagon, the World Trade Centers, and Somerset County. The terrorists hijacked four planes and crashed them to kill many lives. The tragic day has affected my family, friends, and I in many ways. People say that they will not let this event change them in anyway. If those people have American flags flying around and if they weep whenever they hear about the attacks, well then they have changed. This is how my family is like in a way. They said that they did not want these attacks to change them in anyway. My family has American flags flying on the cars and they have them flying outside in our front yard. No matter what anyone says, this event has changed us. The terrorists have out a black hole in our American history. This event has affected America in many different ways. I think that people have changed the way that they live and think in this country. 9-11 will be in some peoples? hearts for maybe not forever but it will be in their hearts for a while. Whenever there is an attack on this country or when innocent people have died, that is just wrong. Since 9-11, I had become more appreciative of America. Last year on September 22, I went to my annual Philadelphia Phillies baseball game for my birthday. I have never been o a baseball game like that one before. Everyone was waving flags and everyone seemed so patriotic. There was a flagman who was running around the middle of the stadium with the American flag. Everyone was cheering when he ran past their row. This year I am going to the game on September 13th. I have a feeling that everyone at the game will go crazy again like they did last year. What the terrorists have done to our country was wrong I believe that the people involved in this action should pay. I do not believe that we should kill innocent people just like they had done to us. If we did, we would be just as wrong. There was a heavy impact of 9-11.
