Hi Friends. I have come across some organizations whose information on the
frontlines is valuable and worth checking out. We just returned from the
East Coast where we spent time in New York City. We were on a plane home the day after we started dropping bombs. Driving through a Vermont town, there were picketers calling for peace. I too hope for peace and wish you all well. Please take time to find alternative sources of information as we make our way through this long journey we have before us. Spread the peace!

www.cnn.com (Christiane Amanpour and Peter Bergen are good reporters, Bergen is one of the few Westerners to ever meet bin Laden face-to-face). Please pass on to me other reporters you think are worth following.

The following sites are of the people & organizations that spoke before the
US Sentate Foreign Relations Subcommittee yesterday -- they are passionate
and caring crusaders who have traveled the world over and have their own
people in Afghanistan right now working to help the refugees. FYI: C-SPAN2
aired this lastnight. Leaders of the committee who remained in their seats
long enough to listen to everything this panel of speakers had to say are:
Sen. Paul Wellstone (D-Minnesota) and Barbara Boxer (D-Calif). Other
members of the subcommittee were mostly interested in whether our US Flag
and name in the area language were on the food rations being dropped so we could get credit and the Afghans could know the US is trying to help them.

This is a delicate issue, dropping bombs and food bags. The majority felt
we needed to rely on delivery via land and eliminate the possibility of
dropping food bags where land mines are located. Stats thrown out were: 80% of refugees are women and children; 26% of Afghan children die before the age of 6; 5.4 million refugees are on the move right now, not in their
villages, not in the refugee camps yet; 1.5 million refugees in Iran; 3.5
million in Pakistan). Please check out the sites and learn more.

www.refintl.org (Refugees International, president Ken Bacon; this is an important organization with insight and history on the refugee crisis
worldwide, but especially that of the Afghan people at this time)

www.dwb.org (Doctors Without Borders, Nicolas de Torrente; again, people
from the frontlines who know what the refugees need and who can see where the US efforts to help the refugees is working and not working)

www.feminist.org (Eleanor Smeal, this organization has been trying to get
the word out on the Afghan womens' plight for years...lots of valuable
information, very passionate about her work)
