| Annotation: | This is the personal story of an Army administration specialist, Michael Petrovich, who survived the terror attack at the Pentagon as told to Beth Reece of the Army Link News. He explains how he lead a small group of people out of the area of the Pentagon that took a direct hit. His face was burned badly during the ordeal. The story also profiles his family and their wait for news from him on September 11. Reece ends the story by describing Petrovich’s visit to his best friend’s widow. |
| Excerpt: | As Pentagon survivors prepare for an Oct. 11 memorial service to remember those killed by terrorists, burn scars still blemish the pale face of Spc. Michael Petrovich. His body has healed, though, and much of the emotional residue has faded enough that Petrovich now speaks openly of the chaotic seconds when hijackers rammed a passenger-filled jet through his Pentagon office Sept. 11. |
